I live 5 minutes from this store. After my experience today I will NEVER go to a Ken's Ace Hardware again. When items are not tagged properly and adds they send out don't coincide with product in the store it's not ok. Not to mention when the store clerk argues about a price that is clearly tagged and says "go take a picture, and show me"..... give me a break. So rude, unprofessional zero customer service. Worst, worst, worst, customer service EVER!!! Special ordered something, and they said it would take about a week, 4 weeks later no calls, and never got back to my messages when I left them. Was put on hold for 10 min. at a time and then wouldn't answer when I called back. When my husband decided to go there, the girl was just standing at the register doing nothing. Must have been very busy when I called, lol. The item was in the back, but we were never called to let us know that. Last time we will go there. read more

Please write on the can of paint, the color and formula just in case the customer needs to re-order paint. An hour prior I ordered a can of paint and the information was written on the top. When I came back to order another can of paint no information was written on the top of the can. I had to ask the cashier who struggled to find a sharpie, to write the color and formula on the can. read more

The DBC.....how I miss thee. I luv this place and it's small town feel. If something ever went down in my old condo i came here to find a solution. I was always greeted by friendly staff and was always helped by the same dark haired guy. He is friendly, super helpful, and will take you to what you need. You can get in and out and don't have to deal with hassle at bigger stores....and my mom frequents this place alot too! I read these posts with great interest. I lived in Diamond Bar from 1979 to 1992. Back long enough ago when there was a SECOND Ken's across the street that sold nursery, and the store where it is presently was about twice its size. This was the default hardware store from me. I spent thousands here. There was a blond guy, and a bald guy, from way back that were total hardware guys. I mean, they knew it all. Always ready to help. Sure you paid a bit more, but their service was outstanding. My dad went there as well. I moved to Chino Hills, but still, I would go over and visit Kens. Then after a while of not going there, the guys I always worked with were gone...and the main person was a middle aged woman, who sounds like the person that other reviewers are talking about. The first time I encountered this person I wanted to buy a gas can, was with my son, and complained to him that I can't seem to find a decent gas can, just the stupid antipollution ones. This woman popped into the aisle and said, "You know, those really do help the environment, which we should all care about". I blew off this unsolicited remark and just shook my head at how rude she was. The next time I was in there, I was buying some paint accessories and paint and she started in on me, in almost a mocking tone, about how the primer I was buying wasn't "right" for the paint. Sure it would work, but it will look horrible she said. Again, never asked her for anything. She was just amazingly rude and condescending. She must be the manager, as the last time I went there she was there, the only one besides the useless cashier, so I just left. It's sad that a real landmark of the "old Diamond Bar" is just a shell of its former self with jerkoff employees. Stay away at all costs. read more

WOW. I called this morning looking for a shower door pivot. The girl who answered my first call hungup on me. She answered my second call, and transferred me to a male who kept asking me, "How can I help you?" which I answered repeatedly with, "I'd like to speak with someone about a shower door pivot". He became quite rude when I told him I had already stated how he could help me after the fourth time he asked me, and put me on hold "for someone else". Another male came on the line, claimed to be the store manager, and asked how he could help me. I told him of the events so far, and asked, "So, should I try somewhere else, or would you mind helping me?" He said, "How can I help you?" I said, "You could provide an answer to my question." He said, "What's your question?" I said, "Thanks for making it clear." and hung up. If you can't handle a simple telephone conversation, how can you help me find a part?!? read more

Horrible customer service, I say this because; The sale (chick in her late 20's) gave me a major attitude when I wanted to return something I bought in the store. She seems very agitated, unfriendly, and unmotivated from the moment I approached her. I want to return two items, both which I have not need and never ever even opened let alone came out of the ace paper bag. To make the long story short, she murmured to herself saying " I could of swore this package had more items in it", I then told her "look, i did not even open the ace hardware bag and I just wanted to return it since I do not need to use it". Along with the item, there was also a small container of cleaning solution, which she held and shook vigorously; (attempting to see if i had use the fluid) which was also fine, however, she just stood there shook once; place on the table and picked it back up and shook it again. At the end of all this, she told me she needed manager approval. I left that store a very unhappy customer as she just returned my items and blew me off by saying "have a nice day" while I was still trying to find out what the heck is wrong with her. Bottom line: There are many other hardware stores that has better service and customer care. I would not ever come here again! read more

Fairly new home owner here, and I'm doing some minor renovations myself to save a buck and learn some stuff. I bought a kitchen faucet at another place earlier in the day. I then realized the fittings were different sizes from the original faucet, so I stop by ace hardware to get what I like to call nipple fittings. Being a newbie, I tell him I installed a new faucet and this what I need. The interaction was very good, he said I know exactly what you need, and game me a compression fitting. I said "what's this thing in the valve?" He said "oh don't worry about that, just unscrew it you won't need it for the job your doing". GREAT! I said. I then look up afterwards that if I would have got a standard brass fitting versus a compression fitting it would have went from $16 for two down to $5 for two. Thanks a lot on the upsell ACE. No one in here seems to want to help or are happy to be there. When you talk to the manager its apparent that he doesn't like his job either. You would assume with the big box stores pressuring these small hardware's stores out of business the differentiator here would be service. Nope... Home depot and Lowes it is.... We've been coming to this store for decades as we live in Diamond Bar. The store location is very convenient for us. We also like to shop here because it is not a big box store and they have a fairly extensive line of products. One of the reasons for the 3 rating is that the quality of the customer service representatives at the store is hit and miss. Some are great and some not so. The store used to have a core group of employees that were so helpful and even offered ideas for what you were looking for or doing. Unfortunately all those people are no longer there. The other reason for the 3 rating is that the store is worn and it seems like management has no pride of ownership in its condition. The store is definitely in dire need of an interior "face lift". It's too bad that the store has gone downhill so much over the years because it could be so much better than it is! read more

Omg!! I've been looking all over the place for a stupid toilet flush handle. Home Depot, Walmart, Lowe's I even ordered one online thinking that it's got to work since I got the model number. But nope, I needed a special one with a very specific angle. My wife suggested we try this ACE store because we've found another hard to find part there several years ago, but I wasn't too hopeful. Much to my surprise, we immediately got help from a very pleasant Hispanic man who helped us find that exact part we needed! I wish I would have gotten his name, but he was such a great help! Went in last Monday to order a garage door spring. Matt acted as if we were an inconvenience, but told us it would be in on Wed. Received no call on Wed. so I called on Thurs. I was told the spring didn't come in, no explaination. Called back on Friday and was told they would have it on Monday. Called today and was told some BS story, and it would be in on Wed. I canceled the order. The service is horrible and the employees don't seem to know what is going on. I won't be returning to shop here. read more

I always get good service from this store especially today. I got a lock box this morning and by my own mistake I locked it and couldn't get the right # to unlock it. I showed up 15 minutes before the posted closing today 9/10/14 and the shop was locked up with the lights off. There was no note on the door as to a reason for an early closure. Super frustrating. First time I have ever seen an ace hardware shut their doors early. I don't think I will be returning here again. I went in to try to match a paint color to a pole that my car had bumped into. It was a little chipped paint that i wanted to touch up. I'm giving this two stars because the guy whom I initially for help was nice and showed me where the paint was, and said they can mix colors to match. Then he brought me someone who was supposed to help, a tall intimidating man who looked angry. When I showed him the picture on my phone, he said he can't tell from the picture, he needs a sample (how am i supposed to bring a sample of paint off a pole), and that off white is the hardest color to match. It was like he didn't want my business. I haven't encountered such rudeness in customer service in quite awhile. Won't be coming back here. Pretty cool staff--big selection--they help me when I cannot find a product I need-but leave me alone when I know what I need. The store is larger once you get inside-it looks small from the outside...they have a excellent selection of products, too. Check out is quick-unlike the song & dance you go through checking out at most Lowe's stores. read more

HORRIBlE SERVICE. Cashiers name is JAMIE. Went in to buy an empty paint can and painting supplies and was baffled at how horrible her customer service was. the empty paint can we grabbed did not have a sticker on it so she demanded we go to grab another one (when we checked none of them had stickers so we took the tag on display),she then scolded us told us not to steal the tag as she rolled her eyes)while we were waiting another man came up to ask if they had certain markers, she blatantly told him go ask someone in the back and rolled her eyes. My faucet was leaking, and I just started to barbecue with family. I removed the part that was leaking, told my farther in law he can take me to Ace hardware. It was 2 minutes before they was about to closed. I ran in and one of the employees was right there to help. They gave me the part show me on the old part came a part and goes on the new one. I had no idea the part came off. I went home and everything thing went together like the Ace hardware employee has said. I'm thankful for there help and did not send me away with the wrong part and show me how the pieces go together. read more

Great little hardware shop! I have never had any problems finding what I need in a pinch. People have to understand it's not a Home Depot or a Fix All shop. It's simply the best local neighborhood hardware store. The workers are always friendly and asking if you need help to find something. The lady at the counter is very nice too. I've been going here for at least five years now since I moved into the area. I've bought keys made, paint supplies, plumbing parts, tools, and all sorts of DIY items. There is no place closer that is as convenient for a quick hardware need. If you are working on big projects or need custom parts, then go to Home Depot or Lowes if you need a vast selection. But for the majority of your small to mid-size jobs, you'll find what you need here. read more

During a purchase yesterday at Ken's Hardware a person I didn't get his name, pushed aside an assistant to do my order because I had a $5 coupon and he assumed the employee couldn't take care of it. This man, he may have been the manager was very rude with an attitude, I told him he was being rude and he got worse raising his voice. I have never been treated by an employee like that before now. I became quite flustered and left the store upset and then realized he didn't ever did take the $5 coupon off. I didn't go back and never will go there again. I will seek out another Ace Hardware but definitely not Ken's. read more

I go to the Ace Hardware stores to patronize because they are the " little guys " and I don't want to get lost in the big box stores! This store by far is one of the worst stores of Ace Stores that I've ever been to! Usually when you going into a store, there someone there greeting you and ask you how can they help you! At this store you have to look around for people to see if you can get service and It can take about five minutes at least trying to find someone! They're not very knowledgeable nor are they really customer service orientated like the other stores that I've traveled to in Los Angeles county and San Bernardino County. Going to this a store is like going to the big box store but with less merchandise in a smaller space! If you need help I do not recommend you go to the store! read more

Just one person can turn you off! I've always found all the employees in there very helpful and polite, and that hasn't changed. I bought two boxes of canning jars, swiped my debit card and there was a power cut. I was concerned since it had swiped, it would charge, but they told me that wouldn't happen because I hadn't signed it. So I paid them in cash. That night I checked on line and my account had been charged. I called and was told I needed a receipt -- no receipt because there was a power cut! The young lady told me to go in this afternoon when yesterday's cashier would be there. I went and she remembered me, but she had to call a manager -- perfectly fine. I had printed the page from my account so he could see I had been charged. He then proceeded to go find what I had bought and then started messing with the computer, or something, and told me to wait a while. I asked what was going on -- I didn't raise my voice, I wasn't rude and I didn't use bad language -- I just wanted to know what was happening, as I had been making jam and needed to get back home and finish up. He slammed down the jars, went to the cash register, slapped the money on the counter and said "Here's your money. Now get out of my store!" This was a manager. I don't know if there's more than one, but I have never been treated badly before, and it's a shame because it was always my go-to store. I won't be going there again. read more

This is a really good, neighborhood hardware store. For its size, it is packed full of the stuff you will need. It has an excellent selection of fasteners. All the staff are pretty good, but there is a guy there named Barry who is particularly knowledgeable and helpful. If they don't have something they can often order it for you. read more

This store is does not make me feel comfortable when I go there. People work there have bad attitude and are unfriendly with a poker face. The recent bad experience I had was that someone cut in front of me but the store staff still asked me to wait for him to finish helping the guy. It was just ridiculous. I've been in there about 4 times in the last couple weeks since I've moved out here and Daniel has exceeded my customer service expectations. I dont normally write reviews but he has helped me each time I have been there and has gone above and beyond to make sure all my questions are answered, even when he is clearly busy. I've been to Lowes and Home Depot and most of the time they can't even answer my questions. Daniel knows what he is talking about and will work with me until my housing dilemma is solved.
