I've been going there for years, but after trying to exchange some $0.35 screw for a different size I was assisted someone who called himself "Owner". Right off the bat he slams his water battle on the counter "what do you want want?!" And every sentence I spoke he had some childish, condescending comeback. Ken is a massive douchebag. The staff at this store is rude and lazy. I tried shopping here a few time because I want to support a smaller, local business. My husband was confused - he disliked it right from the start - he didn't know why I kept going back. Well I won't be returning. Cons: 1) The staff (think lazy emo teenagers and crazed middle-aged moms) - unmotivated & just plain unfriendly. They are the worst! 2) The scabby garden department - dirty, unorganized and just a plain mess. 3) Poor selection - the store is dusty and small. Not a ton of choices - and rather overpriced. But what finally killed it for me - was they way they talk to clients. Here's my story: So I went in to purchase spray paint in order touch up some lawn furniture - a chore for my husband. I am 6 months and visibly pregnant. So I continued thru the store to pick up some planters. My husband calls my cell to check in on something - I was on the phone holding said planters & spray paint - when this woman staffer is just leaning on an aisle structure STARING AT ME. Less than a foot away from me. Weird. So I get off the phone and HAVE TO WALK AROUND HER because she is obstructing the aisle. She says nothing to me... she's seriously creeping me out so I head to the cashier. What is up with the nutty Ace staffer? Maybe she hates cell phones? Maybe she hates pregnant women? All of a sudden she blurts out, "Are you going to use that?!" Me: "Uh what? The paint? Yes..." I laugh nervously. Staring lady: "Well don't you know you can?t!" Me: "What? Can't use what? The paint? Oh...uh because I'm pregnant? Of course... Yeah well, it's for my husband. I am just buying it. I'm picking out the color." Staring lady: "Well lots of people don't know they cant use that stuff. Don't you know you could hurt your baby?!" Ok then I got really mad. Who the hell is this woman?! Did she offer to carry my purchases? Does she give me a basket? NO. But now she is going to preach to me - a TOTAL STRANGER - about what not to do during my pregnancy? Well someone should have told HER mother not to drink when she was pregnant with her because this woman was a nut job. What nerve and what attitude?! I wonder, does she house the homeless? Feed the needy? I doubt it - she's just a typical suburban busybody. No I am not an idiotic mother nor am I an idiotic DIY'r but I am an offended customer. So my husband was right, I shouldn't be shopping at the ACE in Diamond Bar - I won't do that again. For once, regrettably, I should have listened to my husband. read more

MICHELLE: Aisle 9 (I didn't really see aisle 9 so I came back to her and was going to ask where is aisle 9) When she saw me, right away she said, "I told you it's on aisle 9!" Geeezzz, lady, what the heck is your problem????? When I got there, there was no toilet paper so I told her so and she said, "You know I don't." Huh????? VERY RUDE!!!! If I could give this place a zero I would, I believe in supporting our local family run business but this place sucks for service and with lousy unfriendly attitude. I have a big project going on and needed some wooden stakes, I called and they had them, I went in and bought two 24 piece boxes for about $24 bucks each...$1 per stake, happens that one of my workers had gone and also picked up some at Home Depot. When I got home I asked for the receipt for the Home Depot and my god the Ace case was two times more expenses, I went ahead and let them use one box of the overpriced Ace and attempted to return the other back to Ace.........boy do they hate returns, the girl at the counter with a cow ring thru her nose was tso rude that I left and told her I'll come back, i wentt back the next day and a different girl much nicer said no problem but the owner Ken comes to get the box to put back and his attitude was as bad as the girl the day before read more

I have been patronizing this hardware store for 35 years and occasionally I ask to use the restroom which was granted. I stop in this morning to pick up some parts for my sprinkler system and I needed to use the restroom I asked a young man on the floor that was ordering if I could use the restroom and he replied in a nasty tone of voice we have no restroom. I then asked did you guys close it down to shoppers and he replied yes without looking up from his task. I can understand to some degree why it was probably close to CUSTOMERS but that tone in which he replied was uncalled efor....he needs a class in customer service and how to respond to questions in the proper manner. read more

My husband and I went to Ace to get one key copied. Nothing complicated. The customer service here was not good. We waited at the key copy desk for several minutes before an employee strutted inside, talking on the phone and didn't even acknowledge us. When we got home, neither key worked. Both keys were stuck in the door and we needed pliers to get them out. We won't be coming back here, ever. We will drive to a further location. read more

The staff was friendly, as I had asked where the after-Christmas stuff was located, and he pointed me to where it was (from across the aisle tho). The cashier was amiable when I brought the stuff over. But this place does look a bit dated, but it's a hardware store. No worries. I think it's hit and miss with who you get. This hardware store is the best when it comes to customer service. I come here all the time to get the things I need. I get more help here than I ever have from Home Depot or Lowes. I was hanging a prehung door and they asked me questions and helped me get the right nails, screws, and caulking. They even asked if I had shims. I never had the bad experience others have complained about. One person complained about the cashier being the mask police and I would just say thank you to the cashier for thinking of other customers' health and wellness. It takes courage to speak up asking patrons to put a mask on. read more

I am doing a project and need 6 items, wanted to use the curbside pick up due to health issues/Corona Virus, I was having trouble online. I called the Store spoke to Calvin, who literally did my shopping whilst I was on line looking, gave me sound advise on selection of items for my project and "rung up the tab". The project required I have a piece of plywood cut which he did while I waited, then put the cut plywood along with all the items in my trunk (where I had left cash) along with the receipt. I took my car keys with a chip transponder to Ken's Ace Hardware on December 8 to have them cut it. The new key couldn't open my car door or fit in the ignition. The chip was pre-programmed for my car and now it is useless. Spoke to the owner of the store and he said too bad and there's nothing they can do about it. He didn't offered to remedy the situation. Now I have to get a new chip transponder key and have it programmed from a locksmith. It will cost me $130. Don't give them your business. They do not care about customer service. read more

This store is located next to K-Mart. There is ample parking and its a compact store. I went in to get some plastic paint for the dishwasher racks. With years of service the edges of the racks were starting to get rust and this would cause faint streaks on the dishes. So I removed the racks and painted them with the plastic paint. It covered up all the rusted surfaces and the rack looks brand new. The special paint dries up under 12 minutes so one can do multiple coats. The service at the store was friendly and quick. read more

Not sure what other reviewers have been saying but I've been here twice this week (for different issues) and the staff have been extremely helpful. For background, I'm not usually that big into home improvement but they were able to figure out what I was trying to do and give me the tools and pointers on how to get the job done right. I was looking to replace locks in my house (gate, front door, and garage) and was able to have them all be in a master key. My original thought was to have them be re-keyed and still be stuck with 3 different keys. Very helpful staff. Sure, the big boys may have more selection and are a bit cheaper but I like the fact that it feels like a local store and in my experience, the staff are friendly. Would definetely go back for my home improvement needs. :) read more

Hey! It's an Ace Hardware. It's maybe a little more expensive, but they have things the big guys don't and THEY WILL HELP YOU FIND IT! Just today I needed parts, supplies, and glue to repair a main PVC water pipe. The guy showed me the options and gave opinions. He knew what he was doing and either reinforced my thinking or helped me to a better option. And like I said, HE TOOK ME RIGHT TO THE PARTS I NEEDED. Sprinklers, plumbing, electrical, tools, fans, plants, potting soils, weed killer, I can't remember all the stuff we have gotten here. It's a great resource. Kudos to Ken. read more

Did you know that Ace Hardware charges sales tax on fruit and vegetable plants? Well now you do. State law says that fruit and vegetable plants are not taxable, but don't tell that to Ace Hardware in Diamond Bar. They like to charge taxes in violation of sales tax statute. I visited Ace Hardware yesterday for two plumbing projects: one is a leaking outside wall faucet and the other a broken PVC tube which supplies water to the swimming pool. I had no previous plumbing experience, but was hesitant to use a plumber for the starting and hourly cost. Gabe at the shop helped me. He spent quite a while to get the broken PVC stuck in the bronze U-shaped switch, then collected all the necessary parts for these 2 projects. Final cost is a little over $17. That is great price and excellent service. I noticed there are several negative reviews about 2 years ago. Apparently the management has made significant improvement on their customer service. So give this shop a try. You won't get this kind of service in Home Depot or Lowe's. read more

Brad was amazing in installing my water heater. The price was great considering all the work that was done, by him alone, including climbing stairs. He was very nice, professional and his demeanor was very pleasant. Inspite of the negative reviews I read, go to the owners, managers. Let them fix the problem before you write them off. Ace's slogan is "The Helpful Place." While I cannot say they've lived up to that motto every time I've visited, they appear to have made positive strides recently. And, in fairness, I do not wish to throw an entire store under the bus for less than stellar interactions with particular clerks. If you're willing to look past the grumpiness of a couple of the help, you'll be rewarded with a right-sized store with ample parking that seems to have exactly what is needed most of the time. Glad to have this neighborhood alternative in this world of big-box stores that we live in. If I might offer a humble suggestion to the proprietor, please stress to all of your workers the importance of friendly and responsive service. Speaking for myself, whenever possible I try to patronize the smaller guys over the bigger players. And I'm willing even to pay slightly higher prices if it's rewarded by a level of service that's a cut above the others. read more

I will go to Lowe's, which is much further but very much worth the drive to chino hills where employees have a personality and are actually helpful, both which are needed in retail! I knew the original owners Ken and his son and daughter. Over the years about 30 the store has changed ownership the service that used to be has gone. The staff does not know there products nor how they can be used. I tried to return a brand new plumbing fixture yesterday and was told since it has been more than 90 days I cannot return it. I thought I would give Ken's one more try and found that as far as service and friendly greetings this is a thing of the past. Ken would roll over in his grave if he knew how his loyal customer's are treated. They have hired an older gentleman that seems to know his stuff so they may make it but for me I will go to another ACE for any other purchases. The ACE store in San Dimas knows their customer's and even the women know their products. I have been going to this ACE for several years because of the treatment I was give at Kens, but thought I would give Kens one more try. read more

Honestly it's a little frustrating to walk into a hardware store only to find out not all of the employees are trained the same way. If there's store that's in my city I prefer to go there first but after today never again. I had called shortly before coming in to check if item was in stock and they had confirmed they did. Popped on about 10 minutes later only to find that the gentleman I had spoken to had disappeared and the other man on the floor had no idea where to look for said item. He quickly checked an aisle and wall before telling me he can't find it and to come back later when someone was working that knew where it was. So I decided to wander down the separate tool aisles myself in hopes of finding it but unfortunately couldn't. The woman at the register rung my purchase incorrectly. I had purchased a 10' item cut in half. Why she rung it up as two 10' poles I will never know. Luckily I had piped up before completing the transaction. When I jokingly asked if my mia tool was hiding behind the register she asked over the walkie once more only to get the grumpy response of "tell her to come back tomorrow" No thanks.
