I love Peruvian food, so I was really excited to try this restaurant! I ordered four empanadas and an alfajor. I asked for one of empanadas to be served warm so I could eat one on the drive home, but unfortunately they didn't taste fresh they had that freezer like flavor.. I waited until I got home to reheat them hoping they'd improve, but they still tasted the same! I probably won't order the empanadas again. I was a bit disappointed with the filling I wasn't a fan of it! I paid $32.78, so you can understand my frustration with receiving something that didn't feel up to quality. It seemed like they were beef picadillo style. I thought they'd be Peruvian style beef empanadas that usually include olives, egg, and raisins, but that was my fault for not asking and I assuming all places made them the same, but I don't recall seeing a description of the filling so maybe they could improve that on their end as well. The alfajor was good. Overall customer experience was friendly and fast! Something to keep in mind the pricing shown in their yelp menu images is completely different from the prices on their website. I didn't realize that until I was already there! They have a "no service dogs allowed" sign. This means people with visual disabilities, or medical disabilities do not have access. This sandwich is hard to find and im so excited they have it on their menu. Tasted just as if I was having one in Peru. Highly recommend and can't wait to try all of the sandwiches on their menu. Also got lucky and they had picarones on the menu today again another hard item to find. We went to Abuelita's House for dinner to try it out as we like Peruvian food. The steak empanada we had for an appetizer was very good and the server that her sister makes them. Delicious! For the main dish I had the Seco de Cordero and my husband had the Seco de carne. They describe those as stews, but it's more like braised meat. Mine was a tasty braised lamb shank with Peruvian spices, salsa criollo and rice with white beans. The meat fell off the bone. This is what gives the review a 3-star. My husband braised beef was dry and not tender. The server was not friendly although helpful when asked for ice for the water. She did not seem happy to be there. The food came out fast and hot. We liked the Peruvian music in the background that made you imagine you were in the Andes somewhere, but the rest of the atmosphere in the restaurant is a bit drab and could be more colorful considering the place is representing Peru, a culturally rich country. Would we go back or recommend Abuelita's? Probably not. So the three star rating is for the empanada, the lamb and the music. That's it. read more

This was my first time trying Abuelitas House. The person who served me recommended their best Sandwich Pan con Chicharon (pork rind sandwich), honestly edible but nothing special for $14.00. I ordered a side order of fries that were undercooked, they needed more cooking for $6.00. I also ordered an iced tea, which he made from a small bag of instant tea, which is pretty weak, for $3.50. They never offered me water to drink, and I was the only one eating. I had to go to the counter to get my glass refilled, without telling me anything about an extra charge for the iced tea refill $2.50 or they would charge me double. In the end they ended up charging me $30.51 which results in paying extra than what I should have paid and I left them 15% of the tip $4.58 which the truth is they didn't deserve my total was 35.09. What bothers me is that they charge me more for no reason, this is not the way to do business. Bad customer service. read more
