Carne Asada San Pedrana. The yellow sauce is a milky mustardy sauce, you can ask for it on the side if it's not your thing.

As a Honduran, I had to check this place out and 10 out of 10 highly recommend! Service was great, parking lot had plenty of parking and food was amazing! The place is small with only four tables and two bar height tables and it filled up while there. You can order dine in or take-out. I got the pollo con tajadas (with the dressings on the side) and my husband (he's Mexican), got the Carne San Pedrana, he couldn't stop raving about it. He was hooked, especially with my plate. My son had two pupusas revueltas and he said that it was the new spot.

I tried the popular baleada, which is a home-made flour tortilla filled with a layer of mashed red beans, queso fresco, eggs and with or without meat (I got it with carne asada). The flour tortilla was just as other described - soft, buttery smooth, almost melt in your mouth goodness. The carne asada was dry and hard so I could've gone without. I bet a braised beef like barbacoa would've been perfect for this item. It also came with salsa and I selected mild which gave it a nice bright flavor. I also ordered a chicken tamale (they also offer pork) and I was surprised to find a whole chicken wing (no skin) stuffed into the tamale! I broke into it using a fork and hit something hard which turned out to be the bones. But honestly, this was one of the best tamales I've tried in a long time. Flavorful, moist, and a nice sized portion. It came wrapped in what I think was banana leaf. The service was fast on a Wednesday night and there were a handful of friendly patrons seated nearby. You could tell that they were regulars. The space was intimate with around 10-15 tables seating about 4 people each. Maya's Cafe menu has a wide assortment of dishes to choose from: serving breakfast dishes like chilaquiles, lunch items such as burritos, or soups and full on dinner plates with rice, beans, and choice of protein. There's even more selection and the whole menu is in Spanish so I'll be sure to use Google Translate next time!

Can't help but feel like I got scammed. You don't get an itemized receipt, you have to walk up to…read morethe register and they enter totals for food purchased and just tell you the total owed. I was told my total was $168 and some change for dinner (seemed a bit high, but figured it was our problem for not asking for prices ahead of time). We asked if the tab could be split by three and the gentleman who rang me up said yes, but my total would probably go up to about $190. I asked for clarification and he said once he split the transaction it would add full tax each time. I clarified and asked if the $168 already included taxes and he said "yes". I asked how the amount would increase since the $168 already included tax and it should only be divided by three, he then shrugged and said "California" then proceeded to tell me some irrelevant story about high prices he pays for. To avoid the mess, I asked that he just charge it on one card since the extra charges were unclear and would be easier for both of us. He charges my card and then hands me a receipt that showed the total charged was $175.74. I inquire about the extra amount charged and he shakes his head again and says "the tax". Up until then, it had been a good experience. The waitress provided good service, the vibe was good, I would have continued to support this local business. My issue is not the extra amount charged. The issue is that the gentleman was unable to justify the extra amount added to my total or tell me upfront what it was for. For sure, questionable business practices.
