I'm Nicaraguan descent - so anytime I'm on the Hwy 4 corridor I stop by Pupusa Time. The Cacao brought back childhood memories. The carne asada with plátanos fritos, Home made tortillas & queso frito just rounded it off perfectly. Friendly staff and attentive. Will be returning for more home cook memories... read more

Pupusa Time Restaurant - What happened to a full shrimp cocktail? This was a doordash order. I love this place. I will give them one more chance. - Salvadoran Near Me - Pittsburg, California

Pupusa time is worth a visit but unfortunately fell short for me. I ordered a 2 pupusa combo with revuelta and carne de res. Out of the 2, I think the carne was my favorite as I could taste more of the filling flavor. The salsa was good but I think the curtido could have used longer fermenting to give it a little more tang. The combo comes with a small side of rice and beans. Both had good flavors but the rice was cold and the beans were too thin for my liking. The beans had more of the consistency of a thin soup which I was expecting more of a chowder. The staff was friendly in greeting and taking my order. Service is slow but expected as good pupusas take time. My issue for my first time visiting was figuring out their system. I wasn't sure if they bring you a check or you go to the register when you're done. At the end of my meal I waited quite a bit after finishing my meal to see if they'd bring a check to me but ultimately just went up to the register after I felt like I sat there longer than I felt comfortable and just wanted to head home. Not sure if that's the correct process or not still. read more

I've been eating pupusas for quite a few years now and the two I ordered here did not impress me. I got a bean and cheese, and a chicharron with cheese. The bean and cheese pupusa was alright but the beans seemed strange in both texture and taste. When it came to the chicharron with cheese pupusa, I did not find any pork. Instead it was green and red peppers. I was confused and incredibly unhappy about that. There weren't a lot of people there but it wasn't empty either. I'd say it was decently clean. They're was no particular theme, but they had pretty running lights that changed colors along the top of a few walls. The person who took my order wasn't rude or anything, but I felt somewhat uncomfortable and out of place while there and ordering. read more

Food was great, we ordered many different pupusas and chilaquiles con queso y carne, the portions were big, the beans had great taste. The pupusas were the best I've had in the area. 9.5/10 The service was good considering it is New Year's Day and there was only one lady helping everyone. When we arrived only a couple of tables were seated, by the time we left a lot more people had arrived and a gentleman from the back came out to check on the tables. It's a great value, good food for great prices, we will definitely be coming back! read more

Fresh flavors, authentic flavors. If you are in the area, it's worth checking out. We attacked our food so- sorry, no pics. As always, pupusas cannot be rushed. Plan for a 30 min wait- consider ordering rice flour pupusas. read more

Food and service. We were forgotten, never checked on. Glad I brought a bottle of water with me or I would have choked on my pupusa. Others were checked on and had massive amounts of food. Not sure if we ordered of the kid menu compared to others plates. I've had better pupusas from mi Salvador read more

Food is good and services is always nice! My family and I go often because we enjoy the variety of food that that they cater.

central america is represented beautifully here at Pupusa Time. this is due to the quality, the quantity and the love put into the food. the menu is diverse, ranging from typical plates, soups and desserts, all with central american flavors. try the yuca plate, the burrito w its amazing house made salsa, and chicken soup, with hand made tortillas the service is just as great. you are given attention, and the ambiance is amazing, with music and a spacious inside. im so glad this spot is close to my hometown of Pittsburg these check ins funna go up read more

The food was hot and very appetizing. The service was kind of slow but friendly and elegant environment.

I ordered to go. Food was hot and cabbage was almost frozen, pupusas had very little flavor and cheese was different. I ordered Pork & Cheese, Cheese, Chicken & Cheese, and Pork Round and Cheese. For the price they were thin, very little cheese, and meats had no flavor, mostly you taste corn meal, not meat or cheese. The way they wrote on the box, it was not clear which one was which, they pretty much tasted the same. The ones on Railroad Ave is better. Very disappointed read more

Their pupusas taste great! Me and my girlfriend have been here a couple of times. The staff is really nice, they even ran out the door when my girlfriend forgot her purse at the booth. While a smaller family run restaurant with less staff which might mean longer wait times at peak hours they still deliver great quality food. read more

So glad we found this place . Such a cute restaurant and great service . Definitely cal ahead if you're ordering to go. The food is amazing . Definitely recommend ! read more

It's not what I expected & the prices are bit high for what you get. For example the beans (that accompany the Pupusa #1 plate & the Tostones plate) are soup sauce/consistency- I expected real solid beans not purée. Their was only one person as waiter but he was very nice. He did come by to ask if all was ok. The tables could use cleaning & when we arrived there were tables full of dirty dishes that were not picked up until the poor man had time. Same happened with our table - all our used plates were still on our table until we left. read more

They need to improve the team because I went this past Mother's Day and their service was so slow, also they need to really get more large table for large groups of people. Another recommendation is to improve the taste of the food because it doesn't look and taste like Salvadoran food. That's my opinion, advices and problems that I have. I hope they improve their restaurant. read more

Takes a long time to get your food , the service is too slow, i saw just one person attending the restaurant

OMG I'm so happy to find Central American food in east county! I ordered carne asada and asked for grilled onions and they said of course. The rice was fantastic and the beans were just like home. So many offerings to choose from multiple kinds of Papusas, fried plantains to some Mexican and Nicaraguan specialties. We were very happy with the beverage options and ordered the Tamarindo juice and Atole (a pineapple apple and cinnamon warm drink. I will definitely go back. If you haven't tried Salvadoran or Nicaraguan food you're in for a treat. Our meals also came with homemade corn tortillas. I will be back! read more

This was our first time trying out this place, we were excited to have a pupusa place near our house . Unfortunately the service was very slow, it took an hour to get our two orders to go. The host was not very friendly either or let us know that their system was down to place the order. After all , the chicharon was overcooked (burnt) and the pupusas were okay .. Will not recommend this place read more

Pupusa Time Restaurant - Pupusas Rancheras. Originalmente viene la orden con huevos estrellados pero nosotros los pedimos revueltos y con extra salsa. - Salvadoran Near Me - Pittsburg, California

I wasn't sure what "papusas" were but knew they were South American so I stopped in after work for a to-go order. They have QR menus (not a fan) but there was a printed menu on the door so I looked at that and came back inside and got the combination plate: a papusa, rice and plantains. I asked for suggestion and was told the beef was good but I also got an extra papusa-cheese and zucchini. Was surprised he said it would be 25 minutes but live around the corner so came back and it was ready. Upacked it when I got home (everything was still piping hot) and discovered there was also a cole slaw and a gespacho soup included. It was odd they were in small ziploc bags instead of a small container, but maybe this is a soft opening and they didn't have everything they needed, so they rolled with it? The cooked items were still piping hot, and incredibly delicious. The rice was so flavorful, the papusas were crispy, yet tender, and the soup and coleslaw were refreshing additions to a very generously portioned meal and about $20 with tip. Only ate half but it made a great breakfast the next day. Looking forward to my next visit and hopefully they will be more "dine in" ready. Even so, I appreciate this couple wanting to share their food culture and work hard to do it well! read more

I have been craving some pupusas for a while now. We decided on this place because it was relatively close. We were greeted nicely by staff and seated quickly. The ambience inside the restaurant was alright. We were given some water and lime to start off. Looking at the menu I was surprised to see that they offer Nicaraguan dishes as well as Salvadoran. After a few minutes, we put our order in. I got two cheese pupusas and a bean/cheese pupusa. My partner got the two pupusa combo that included one chicken pupusa, one pork pupusa accompanied by rice and beans. The food we got was delicious! The masa was not dry, the quality of the ingredients was great and it definitely satisfied our craving. I would give five stars but no one ever came to check on us to see if we needed anything or to give us the check. We ended up having to go ask the front desk if we could pay and for a box. Despite that happening I would still order from this restaurant. The cashier was so lovely and overall staff were very pleasant. read more

The food here is Delicious! First visit with friend, we ordered an appetizer platter to share. Each item had a unique and authentic flavor. The service was excellent and food came quickly. Two weeks later, I called on Saturday night to place an order for a Potluck on Sunday, very last minute. The lady was kind and helpful working with my budget, and we decided on pastelido. The tray of 30 was Ready for pickup at 9 am on Sunday. They added a container of coleslaw and 2 containers of salsa. The dish was a Big Hit and so delicious! I'm a repeat customer who will be returning again for the delicious food and excellent service! read more

I ordered to go a couple of pupusas and some yucca w chicharron. Pupusas were really good, not doughy as someone said. The yucca con chicharron was ok since they didn't provide the slaw for that particular dish. There's something that's missing. I'm not sure if it's because a not 100% Salvadoran cuisine as it has a Central American menu to it or Mexican:Salvadoran. They have the potential to be top notch and I wish them well. I'd love to try their breakfasts!! read more
