I used to love this spot! I would order a couple of times a week. Lately though, not sure what has changed. I've ordered a handful of times and the taste and freshness isn't quite there anymore. I've called in to place orders and they've answered with hello? Not the usual business name. They've also been out of items first thing when they open and they said it was because they hadn't gotten the ingredients for the day. We come in at least once a month and always leave happy and full. The girls working also added to the welcoming interior by greeting us and offering recommendations when we asked. There were a lot of to-go orders when we arrived. The menu is different from other Mexican restaurants, which I really liked! The meat options also span farther from the ones offered typically. Wanting to try something new, I ordered a Bistek Nápoles Perrona. Looking at the price, I expected it to be small but the portion was so good for the price point. The steak was super saucy and the flavors were on point! There was a slight eggy taste (I couldn't find out where it was coming from). My friend ordered a burrito and that was good as well! Basic experience. I was looni g forward to trying it, since I'd heard good things about it. We had a few things. The al pastor super burrito (It was ok, it had some fatty pieces,the meat was lacking in authenticity and very little avocado). The gorditas, one picadillo and one chicken tinga (The chicken tinga was good but very little, beans were very runny. The picadillo was bland). The best was the barbaco taco ( flavorful meat and tortillas). I did like the onions, cilantro and limes that were provided. The agua fresca we had was the cucumber and lime , that was delicious. No complimentary chips though, they cost an extra 2.99. All in all it was an ok experience. Not the best, not the worst. With so many taco places in the area, it comes down to the little things. Besides the standard meat choices, they offer Guisado, which is a stewed method of cooking the meat, and it's fantastic! You just have to try it to see. One of my favorite items is the Perrona, which translates to "kick ass," and it is! A quesadilla on a thick, house made tortilla and filled with a Guisado, can't go wrong! Let's start with SERVICE - simply said, outstanding! Everyone behind the counter and in the kitchen were very nice, smiled at me and I felt like I was a 'regular'. The fella who took my order was great in advising me about the Perrona with Guisados - since there were several selections, I asked what he would order and he did not hesitate and he said "Oh, you have to get the chicharron!" So, I did, and darned if he wasn't 101% right. FOOD is next... In addition to the Chicharron Perrona, I also ordered a chicken/cheese quesadilla and one barbacoa taco. My granddaughter is a quesadilla FREAK and she said it was AWESOME with two thumbs up. The taco was small (street style), but mighty GOOD! AMBIENCE Well, I always equate ambience to fine dining, but there is also ambiance for Mexican restaurants and their 'ambiance' was fine - nothing to write home about, but the place was clean, spacious enough so you weren't constantly moving chairs and tables to squeeze by anyone, and had ample waiting area for to-go and delivery orders. The burritos here are amazing! Best chicken burrito in the area. The carne asada is tasty as well. The salsas that they give are usually spicy so if you don' like the heat you won't need much! First time here. I've heard a lot of great things about this restaurant and today we finally had the chance to try it out. We ordered 3 super burritos: al pastor, barbacoa, and asada. The burritos were enormous, I was barely able to eat half. Now as far as flavor, mine, the barbacoa I thought was a tad salty...but it could just be my taste buds. Besides that it did have great flavor. The other two said asada was really good but the pastor was missing some flavor. One issue we had was you could not tell what was what in the burritos. Usually when you look inside the burrito you can see the rice, beans, meat etc., but with these burritos you could not make out any of it. It was like all mushed up...don't know how else to describe it. Besides that. Service was great, the wait wasn't long at all, definitely fast service. 5 stars for the size of the burrito. This place is HEAVEN SENT! The menu isn't big nor is it small too. The few options they have here are honestly perfect for someone who has not had this kind of Hispanic food. Mind you, we both thought, oh it might be small so lets order 1 each. Yeeea big mistake, because these thangs were super packed with tender meat, cheese, beans and most of all FLAVOR! We all love flavor. Both dishes were honestly the best I've had ever and priced fairly and honest. Also, do not get scared when they only bring you your food, they will give you salsa, onion, cilantro and radish on the side. So don't go thinking, "is this it?" cause they will bring it to you, just be patient. As for their pepino and lime agua fresca, it was THE BEST pepino and lime I've ever had. Sweet, but also sour and I love a perfect balance of sweetness and sour. I would honestly go here just for it. If I could order the whole jug, I honestly would! I wrote a review when they first opened, & they were good , but they had gotten better! The food is unique & authentic Mexican Cuisine. They have gorditas made of guisados like chicharrón with queso fresco , queso Oaxaca , bistec con chile , puerco en salsa verde nopales etc. I don't know any other restaurant around this area that offers that, they also have your average Mexican menu tacos, burritos, etc.. Their aguas frescas are the best, sweet but refreshing! My favorite is Limon con chia & cucumber but when is not available I'll take pineapple & mango, they have a variety of aguas from your traditional Horchata & Jamaica to exotic flavor. I pretty much had try everything in their menu, I'm a regular here , I'll come here least once a week. The restaurant is always cleaned. Their customer service is always above & beyond , Ernesto, Ema, Ivan & the rest of their team have always an smile & great attitude! I know I just recently reviewed, but we've been coming here / ordering take away for about a year now, and I just tried the Torta Ahogada! This is unlike any sandwich I've ever had. The carnitas, sauce, and pickled onions all mingling with a nice piece of still crunchy sourdough soaked in all the tomato-y goodness is more than my best dreams could have ever conjured! Still the best tacos in the Bay Area! These are my favorite barbacoa tacos with cheese. You have to get the chips and pico and you're in luck if they have the alfajores cookies in stock. They are so addicting. The service is amazing this family establishment is so kind and really care about their customers and community.
