Excellent chips & salsa.Service is very quick and helpful. Just a very nice restaurant

Just one example of the festive atmosphere.

I haven't tried enough dishes here to know if the food is above four stars, but even if it's not, the five star service and ambiance round it up. And the bar was impressive, too. It's not a fancy place, and they don't take reservations, but they were able to seat our large party. The first thing we noticed is that every square inch inch of this place is a festive celebration of Hispanic culture. The second thing that impressed us was the amazing service we received from our excellent waitress. I was not happy to see that they do not offer complementary chips and salsa. And we didn't order any just on principal, even though key were very inexpensive. But I must say that their salsa was amazing (very spicy but amazing), as I had them bring out some with my Chile Colorado, which was tasty but mild). Margaritas here are excellently made (and we're picky) and are available by the glass or pitcher. They also get five stars on value for the money. The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. You won't leave here broke or hungry! We were back in town visiting friends, who say they eat here three times a week. NowI know why!

THIS........... is one of Antioch's not-so-hidden jewels. One of the few things I miss about not living in Antioch anymore is eating here. I don't know where to start with my review because EVERYTHING here is good, right down to the customer service. When you walk in you're greeted instantly and asked if you'll be dining in, picking up or heading to the bar. We usually dine in when we go so we're escorted to a table. Chips, salsa and a glass of water used to follow quickly behind you, but now you have to order it. I think it is like $1.99. But let's talk about the Margaritas they offer because that's definitely the start if not the supporting star in this place. This one time I ordered the 20oz Mango Margarita and y'all....... it was sooooo good, I killed it, but it knocked me out. I literally went to sleep in the car. Lol. And went back to sleep once I got home. My favorite is their Steak and shrimp wet burrito - which is usually my go to. I also love their Fajita plates. They do refried beans different. Like, they melt in your mouth, for real. Like I said, EVERYTHING IS GOOD. Every time I come to Antioch, I come here to eat now. We usually spend about $40-60 for two people, but that's if we're doing too much (drinking heavy). I recommend this place to my friends and family that have moved that way. This is a really good restaurant that's easy to miss because it is in a strip mall, but........ it'll be your loss because you're missing out if you haven't eaten here.

We have been here a number of to es and their food is always on point. Came for dinner on a weeknight. We had nachos with shredded chicken which is definitely shareable. They give large portions. We also had our favorite soup - caldo don Jose and it was plentiful that we took half of it home. We tried the chile verde on street tacos. It was yummy!

Thanks for accommodating us all Cocina Medina!!!

We had just gotten done with my Dad's graduation and planned to have 15 people accompany us here. I called ahead seeing as it was a Friday afternoon, the thought of others from different graduations going to the same spot, and to notify the restaurant that there'd be a large party coming. The woman on the phone was very pleasant and informed me it wasn't too busy when I'd called so we made our way over. Before hanging up, she said there was patio dining available as well which was perfect for the group size. Being outside allowed us the opportunity to be more vocal while still maintaining good etiquette. Me and three members of my family arrived and let the staff know we'd like the patio for a large party of 15. I believe the woman who responded was the manager, she said (paraphrasing here) "just give us a few minutes and we'll have it all set up. We also want to let you know that with such a large party we don't split checks but you are welcome to split the bill between yourselves". Which was very good to know and made it much easier for them. It really did only take a few minutes for them to set up which was great. The patio area was clean, covered, and spacious. One by one everyone began to show up. (I'll spare you all those in between details lol) I ordered a peach margarita (4 actually lol), the chicken super burrito (wet OF COURSE!), and couldn't finish the burrito because it was so filling! Every single staff member there was pleasant, welcoming, and the youngest one, the young man, was so sweet! We ordered drinks, food, and had a great time. I loved the experience at Cocina Medina. I've been there before in a small group and now a big group. I can honestly say they can handle anything! Great job everyone!

Soggy and burnt tortilla that tasted old

My friend, daughters, and I walked up and saw this crazy sign saying they don't take walk in orders so you have to call and order. We walked in to see if we could just place our orders because we had two little kids with us that we took out of the car (6y/o & 1.5 y/o). Nope! They said call the number on the door and order with us (who we were talking to ), and wait in the car for a call back. Being 6:42pm, and having two little kids, we had to order here or we would get hangry. So we called and ordered. We got 2 burritos; one wet super burrito, one regular dry burrito with only shredded chicken, beans and rice for my daughters to split. I got the taco salad. Burrito was ok only because the seasoning of chicken was done well but beans were plain. Taco salad was below sub par. Like I hope I don't get sick from it because the taco shell tasted almost bad. It wasn't freshly crispy from the fryer, it was over baked and soggy. The darker colored areas are burnt, so that was extra gross soggy. Definitely not made the way I've had it before at any places I've gone (La Piñata's is amazing). As someone mentioned in another review, "lackluster in flavor." Let's just say El pollo loco taco salad tastes better, more flavor, and even healthier. Best thing about this place was their roasted salsa. ‍ Also the friendly staff, although their protocol for to-go ordering is odd. But we don't go to a restaurant specifically for the hostesses, do we?! lol

Cheers! Pina colada ($9.99), Corona-Rita ($18.99) and cokes for the pregos ($2.99)

Excellent drinks. Lackluster food. - Pina colada ($9.99): Quite likely the best pina colada I've had in my life! Smooth, frothy and coconut-y. 5/5 - Ground beef nachos ($10.99): There's nothing I hate more than soggy chips and ALL the chips were soggy from the start. Even with all the toppings, the nachos oddly lacked flavor and one in our party even asked to pass the salt to douse hers! Big portion, though. We easily could have shared one order between two people. 2/5 Decent service. I liked the decor and ambiance. A few things to note: - $1.99/pp for chips and salsa! (They used to be free.) - 90 minute time limit - No split checks - Vaccination cards checked at the door

I've been here once before and I've also door dash'd and either way it was super good! (Of course it's always better in person, for the full experience!) went with my family (7 of us) and we all were very satisfied with our meals and drinks! I got the shrimp and steak fajitas (and 4 of them got the steak fajitas too). The plates are huge so you can definitely share a plate. The service was great! Our server was super helpful and patient with us, thank you! The staff was funny and welcoming, everything about this place (especially was the environment) was just a great experience overall! Definitely coming back!

Omgoodness.....is what I have to say about the food here. I have never in my time of going out to eat Mexican food, had it as good as this, UNLESS it was home made. Walking in, I was already impressed with the deco and politeness of staff. We were seated right away and checked on immediately. My only problem was the amount of food and their variety. There was so much...I was torn. Everything is served big and not just the portions...the taste...just ahhhhhmazing! The waitress was very good and was able to make substitutions for me which was perfect for what I craving. Here is what we had: Shrimp Quesadilla: Cheesy goodness with humongous pieces of shrimp Chile relleno: same cheesy goodness in the bell pepper baked to perfection Chimichanga and tamale plate: this is what I special requested. The original plate was a chimichanga and taco I think but they were very nice and said they sub anything. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be back to try other things. I suggest you try it out if you are in the area.

    Enchilada and Chimi! Very filling!

Ask the Community - Cocina Medina

Anyone know if they are open for lunch on saturdays still? I saw comments on their FB that they aren't doing lunch currently.

The restaurant no longer opens for lunch, only for dinner.

Do they do catering? Tried looking on the website couldn't find anything.

Did they get an air conditioner yet?

Yes air temp inside is perfect.

    Are there Taco Tuesday specials?

    No.

Can Cocina Medina accommodate a group of 42 for lunch?

    no.

Looking for a Mexican restaurant that serves a delicious carne asada, near Oakley. Does anyone know of a good Mexican restaurant?

Cocina Medina in Antioch is our go to. I always get the carne asada super burrito (dry). My kids love their salsa.

Many restaurants offer "Kids eat free" days - do they participate? If so, which day(s) offer free or reduced price meals for children?

No they don't. However, their prices are pretty reasonable.

    Have they reopened?

Yes! 6/27 was the grand opening! Full house but the wait was worth it!

Thank God for another meal, because this place definitely did not serve one made with care…read more The experience started off confusing before we even got the food. We pulled up around 12:50, and the sign on the door said closed, while the lighted sign said open. Mixed signals right away. We literally had to call just to find out if anyone was even there. I ordered a super burrito wet, half green and half red sauce. I was told what it came with, but when I got the food, key ingredients were missing. No real sour cream, no proper pico de gallo, and barely anything that made it feel like an actual super burrito. I also ordered another super burrito and asked for ranchero meat, because that is clearly something they sell there. If you sell ranchero tacos, then obviously ranchero meat exists in your kitchen and should be an option in a burrito too. Instead, the burrito came in a box looking like they already knew it wasn't put together right. When I got home and opened it, I was honestly disappointed. The photos speak for themselves. This was not a super burrito. It was a sloppy tortilla overloaded with rice and meat, with almost nothing else inside to balance it out. No beans, barely any vegetables, no real pico, and no care in the way it was made. It looked like somebody just stuffed whatever was easiest in there and called it done. And before anyone tries to say I didn't ask for certain things, you can literally see tiny pieces of tomato in there, which shows some kind of veggie mix was supposed to be part of it. But overall, it was still mostly just rice and meat. That is not what people expect when they order a super burrito. The wet burrito was just as bad presentation-wise. It should have been smothered properly, with that melty, flavorful, put-together look. Instead, it looked rushed, sloppy, and halfway done. Even the cheese on top looked like it was thrown on without any effort. This whole meal felt like it was made with no pride. Confusing service, missing ingredients, weak execution, and burritos that looked more like a struggle meal than something worth paying for. Grateful to have food, always. But I would not come back for this. Here's a shorter, sharper Yelp version too: Pulled up around 12:50 and the sign said closed, but the open light was on. We had to call just to see if anyone was there. That should've been the first warning. Ordered a wet super burrito, half green and half red, and another super burrito with ranchero meat. What I got was a sloppy mess. The photos speak for themselves. These were not super burritos -- they were mostly rice and meat stuffed into a tortilla with missing ingredients and no care. No real pico de gallo, no beans, barely any balance, and the wet burrito looked rushed and poorly finished. The cheese on top looked thrown on, not melted and smothered the way it should be. One burrito even came in a box looking like it had already fallen apart. If you sell ranchero tacos, then ranchero should clearly be available as burrito meat too. No excuse there. The places was alone for it to be lunch hour . Not a lot of people Overall, this food looked and tasted like it was made with no pride. Grateful for the meal, but definitely not worth the money.

I love this place, but this visit absolutely sealed the deal all over again…read more We ordered the carne asada super burrito and it was perfection. It was packed with flavorful, juicy meat and had the ideal ratio of beans, rice, and cheese -- every bite was balanced and satisfying. No skimpy filling here. Just a beautifully built burrito done right. The chips and guacamole were just as impressive. The chips came out hot, thin, and perfectly fresh -- that light crisp that shatters just right. The guacamole tasted bright and fresh, clearly made with care and real ingredients. We also tried the pastor torta, and wow. It was loaded with tender, well-seasoned meat, and the bread was soft, fresh, and toasted perfectly. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside -- exactly how a torta should be. Every component worked together so well. And the piña agua fresca? Super fresh and refreshing -- the perfect complement to everything we ordered. We come here often, but this time we switched it up and tried the burrito -- and it did not disappoint. This is easily one of the best taquerias in town. ***** PLEASE READ BEFORE EATING HERE *****…read more I normally do not leave Yelp reviews unless an experience is truly bad, but after today I felt people should know before spending their money here. I chose Guadalajara because I had previously tried their food truck at an event and really enjoyed the food. For Mother's Day, my 17-year-old son wanted to do something nice for me and took me there with my other kid and my mother. Unfortunately, the experience was awful from the moment we walked in. The restaurant was completely dead with barely any customers, and the woman working the front register looked irritated that we were even there. She was unfriendly, rude, rushed us while ordering, and made us feel like we were bothering her the entire time. While ordering, we noticed there were no cooks in the kitchen. After we placed our order, she told us they were "running behind" because there were no cooks available. She also got part of our order wrong, specifically the type of meat we requested. When we politely questioned it after seeing the receipt, she immediately became defensive and insisted we ordered it that way, which we absolutely did not. She eventually said she would fix it before the food came out. The problems continued after that. The bathroom had no toilet paper, there were no napkins or utensils available anywhere in the restaurant, and every time we had to ask her for something she acted irritated and inconvenienced. When my food finally arrived, it was extremely spicy. When I asked why, she claimed I had personally requested it extra spicy, which never happened. At that point it became obvious she had rushed through our order and was not listening to anything we were actually asking for. The atmosphere felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming the entire time. My mother even went to get napkins from the car because she did not want to "bother" the cashier again due to how rude she was acting. I felt terrible because my son had good intentions bringing me here for Mother's Day, and he honestly felt bad afterward for recommending the restaurant. I appreciated his thoughtfulness, but sadly this experience completely ruined what should have been a nice family meal. I will never return here, and I would never recommend this place to anyone. Whether this woman is the owner, a family member, or an employee, management needs to understand that this level of customer service drives people away. Word of mouth matters, and customer service can absolutely ruin a restaurant no matter how good the food may once have been. One star.
