Rolled ice cream joint. The positives are that the ice cream tastes good, and is reasonable value for 8.5 People mention unlimited toppings but no one in front of us seemed to take advantage of this (people just stuck with the standards), so not sure if this is really a thing. My main issue with this place is that its Understaffed. They just had 2 employees, so each ice cream took forever to come out. There weren't a lot of people in front of us in line, and we still waited about 30min from arriving till we had the ice cream. For that reason alone I will not return. Note they were good about letting people know about wait times.
We were just looking to get out of the house for a few hours on Saturday and stopped in a few different ice cream shops around Montclair, but the menus weren't really what we were looking for before finding Absolute Zero. Even though the line was to the door, it went pretty quickly. We waited about 15 minutes for our ice cream. The staff is super friendly and prices are reasonable, especially for the effort they put in to make everything perfect. Definitely recommend and would return!
Very delicious ! Great options , a lot of variety . Very hospitable. Ingredients were fresh.
First things first, the service was awesome! The lady who greeted us and offered recommendations was so helpful and nice. She was able to suggest some of her favorite flavors, including the ube and Vietnamese coffee. Second, all of the ice cream that we got was so delicious and creamy. I got the Oo-Bae-Bae (ube and coconut flakes), my boyfriend got the Camp & Chill (graham cracker and chocolate), and my friend got the Dream Team (strawberry, banana, and nutella). Finally, to top it all off (literally), the toppings were UNLIMITED. I really appreciated that they had such a wide variety of toppings, such as pocky, mochi, and condensed milk. Seating was also easy, since the shop was pretty spacious and had several open tables. I would definitely recommend, and I would come here again.
$8.50 for standard cup with unlimited toppings! I got the matcha strawberry, which was delightful although was hoping for more than just one strawberries to be mixed in... but taste and presentation wise it delivered! My mom enjoys rolled ice creams moreso and she was happy with the choice as well, not overtly sweet but incredibly creamy! The interior of shop is a little dated but workstations were clean, staff was friendly, helpful, and efficient. Looking forward to my next visit here!
The are not messing around here. All orders are customized and absolutely delicious. The wait can be a bit long but believe me it is worth it. The inside is also clean and has a cute vibe. This place is worth a trip. I have no notes.
Here I am, again...like always, and forever because I love them!!!! THE BEST ICE CREAM EEEEEVVVEERRRRR! The area is small, but families and couples fit. Service is very friendly and upfront. The ice cream is made from home made recipe that is unique. Also, you can add many other ingredients like berries, cereal, and marshmallows to Matcha. The final touch is the fresh freeze roll which makes it practical and enjoyable to eat! Enjoy!
A few days ago, my coworker recommended Absolute Zero to me. I'd passed by the storefront so many times, but never went in. While I was in Montclair this afternoon, I decided to stop in and check it out. This was my first time trying rolled ice I cream and *mind blown emoji* it was good! I ordered #3 (Camp and Chill). "Tastes just like a s'more" Plus, added bonus with the toasted marshmallow on top. Now I have to come back and try their other ice cream numbers, and treat my partner to the vegan ice cream they have there, too. If you haven't tried it, you should. Totally worth it!
This small rolled ice cream spot is not to be missed. They have a bunch of suggested combos or you can do your own. The bad news is that it is $8 (one size) yet it's a big portion to share. The ice cream tastes deliciously fresh and flavorful. There are a few tables so you can certainly enjoy your ice cream there or take it to go.
The staff here are extremely friendly and personable. If you ever have a question or are unsure what to order they take the time to help you and you will never get an attitude for asking questions. Every flavor is so unique and different, I was surprised how each order is made fresh right in front of you. Amazing quality and flavor. It's a small shoppe with a homey feel. It's great and tasty whether you are there to eat in the or takeout. No matter what flavor you get you will be amazed.
I never really liked rolled ice cream because I would find that it tasted like nothing or freezer burn BUT for some reason this place makes it taste sooo good. I always get the hulk smash (matcha) flavor and I love that you can select unlimited toppings for your ice cream. There is a good amount of seating and the staff is incredibly friendly as well! Definitely recommend!
The rolled ice cream here is pretty good, and I appreciate the various options and toppings you can get for one order. They only have one size, so be aware! I got the Vietnamese Cofee with banana and condensed milk and I liked the texture of the ice cream - I've been to other places and the texture is too chewy and this place knows what they are doing. Overall, the 2 workers were really nice and patient with my indecisiveness and recommended toppings that would go well with my base ice cream flavor. Overall, I would come here again, for sure!

It's like dessert and a show! Scooping out ice cream is cliche now. I see some comments that it is expensive, and it is definitely on the pricier side of ice cream, but the rolls aren't exactly something you can buy at a container at Shop Rite. As an occasional treat, it was great to watch them pour out the ice cream and do their art and roll it up. There are like 10 different kinds and unlimited toppings! I went for the "hulk smash" matcha/strawberry ice cream because I wanted something more unique. I added mochi, pocky, and coconut flakes. I was tempted to go overboard with toppings, but I don't think everything would go with matcha. It was crowded when I went, but they moved the line really fast and had multiple employees able to roll out and make orders. There isn't a ton of seating but there's some and parking might be challenging as that's just the nature of Bloomfield Ave. I'd recommend parking a block or two over and usually you can find street parking with no meters. If it's nice weather, it's good to eat and walk. It is quite a bit per serving, so I could see sharing one wouldn't be unreasonable. I very much look forward to coming back at some point in the future to try the other flavors. I'd say that this place is worth checking out. There are a LOT of places to grab a bite to eat on nearby, so make a stop here after a meal, but leave enough room to get this! read more

Was craving some ice cream and decided to drive out to Montclair and try this place out. They didn't disappoint, due to COVID we couldn't go inside but we placed our order online, the system was user friendly and easy to navigate. Once we arrived we did not have to wait long, just picked up and drove off. Very quick service. The ice cream was delicious, and well worth the drive, highly recommend! read more
Haven't had rolled ice cream in a whole. Still one of my favorites. I got the Me Want Cookie with Oreo cookie crumbs on top. I kept it simple and it was perfect for my sweet tooth. If you park near, they offer to bring it to your car after finished so you don't have to wait in store with other people. read more

Honestly one of the best ice cream places I have ever been to. 10 Below in New York was the best rolled ice cream I have ever tried but Absolute Zero became my favorite in New Jersey. Although they were PACKED with kids and families, they were VERY efficient and served us within five minutes MAX. The staff (especially Amberly) was THE BEST. Literally. I never loved a server as much as she did. She made my ice cream with care and honestly served me with the best of her ability with a SMILE on her face! I love her. Please give her a raise LOL. The ice cream was so smooth and creamy, it just melted in my mouth! (AND it's served with a cool spoon that changes color when it touches something cool) The place also had PLENTY of places to sit which was nice as well. Definitely recommend people coming here :) read more

The first time I saw this was on Facebook about a location in Chinatown. Since then, I've been seeing these popping up all over the place. After a warm dinner at Ani Ramen, I decided to venture across the street to see what the type was about. First, this place is tiny. It's probably better off to get your ice cream to go. I'd hate to see this place in the summer since it's in the heart of Montclair off one of their main streets. Anyways, the menu was pretty decent with different types of ice cream mixes. I, obviously, got something with mint chocolate in it. The process is this: you go in and order what you want. You give them your name and there's about a 10 minute wait for them to call your name up. Not 10 minutes for it to be ready, but 10 minutes for them to call your name so you can go watch your ice cream being made which is another like 3-5 minutes. There are three ice cream making stations that are behind plexiglass where you can see the whole process of them spreading the ice cream and banging and scraping, etc. The third machine is for those who order flavors with nuts involved (smart). So for those who have nut allergies, do not fear. Anyway, when they finally call you up, you better decide what FREE UNLIMITED ( yes. I said free AND unlimited) toppings you'd like on your ice cream. Being extremely full from dinner, I was boring and asked for a marshmallow and some pocky sticks...other patrons got chocolate syrup with fruity pebbles and condensed milk and fruits. Again, get whatever you want! It's unlimited!! When I finally came to eat my ice cream, it dawned on me how silly it was because it's literally ice cream that's rolled up into little tubes for a fancy display. The whole thing really is just to WATCH the process of the ice cream making. I couldn't really eat the ice cream rolled up because that's just how I am...I like for the ice cream to be a little bit more melted so it's got a creamier and smoother texture to it. They used ONE mint Oreo cookie to make my ice cream and it's really genius actually. They're saving on ingredients and charging almost $7 for a cup of ice cream. Anyway, that's a whole other story. I can't say I'm THAT impressed but this type of way they make ice cream. Was it cool to watch and Snapchat/Instagram? Of course it was. I've had over 100 views on my IG account. Was it with the price? Prrrooobbably not, but it was still delicious. Would I come back? Sure. If I was in the area. Do I suggest others to check this place out? Absolutely. If you have younger children it's definitely fun for them to watch and it's a cute place to bring a date or something. In my opinion, I tried it once, I'm sure I'll try it again, just not as soon as I had hoped. read more

While they said 30 minute wait initially, it only took about 20 minutes until my turn. The server was extremely polite and quick. Being a huge ice cream person, one of the best ice cream I've ever had! Not too heavy, but great taste. Also, I love how it's unlimited toppings. I'll definitely be back :) read more

There have been incarnations of various ice cream concepts throughout the years. Back in the 80s the mix-in concept gained traction and popularity. Ice cream was literally extruded through a press and infused with your choice of candies or whatever. Toppings literally morphed from, well, toppings to mix-ins. Fast forward 25 years and we have modern takes on this at such places as Cold Stone and Maggie Moos where hard work has replaced machinery and hand mix-ins are all the rage. Absolute Zero takes this fairly simple concept and runs with it in an entirely new and, might I add, exciting and delicious way. Sweet cream base is poured over a frozen metal disc and turned into amazing, custom blended ice cream before your eyes. Here, not only are the ingredients added, the ice cream itself is created. Rather than the quintessential scoop, ice cream is flattened and hand scraped and made into rolls. This, my friends, is sheer genius. The process is not easy and requires quite a bit of skill, strength, knowledge and might I add patience on their part as it takes the better part of 5 minutes to create. The concept is so interesting and delicious that we ventured there yesterday which was in fact the coldest day of 2016 so far. And, I'm here to tell you that I'm damn glad we did. Now, $7 prix fixe is pricey for ice cream even though you can literally choose as much or little as you want put into it. However, after going here, experiencing the process and tasting the result, I have to tell you that it's a damn bargain unlike any other. If you have kids or just a sweet tooth that only ice cream can satisfy, run to this gem in Montclair. I promise you that you'll be more than happy you did. 5 ENTHUSIASTIC stars. read more

My cousin told me about this spot a few years ago. I've been going since and I always order the strawberry shortcake. I've always tried something different, vanilla ice cream with almonds and strawberries, it was delicious. read more
Thai ice cream finally comes to this area of NJ in the form of Absolute Zero, and it doesn't disappoint! I have been eyeing this place ever seen the "Coming Soon" sign popped up on the storefront, and was delighted to finally have an opportunity to try their ice cream on a frigid Saturday night. Believe me when I say this place is popular. I mean, really popular. 20-degree something temperature does not stop high schoolers, college students, out-of-towners, etc. from making a pit stop here. This complicates things, since 1. each order takes about 5 minutes to make and 2. there is limited seating in the store. When we went, we saw one guy "save" the entire bar seating for his friends. If you come here, people, "do the right thing" and let others sit, especially if they need to wait 20-30 minutes for their ice cream. An no, that is not an exaggeration, the line can get long and the wait even longer, at least during evening hours. Despite those minor snafus, the ice cream is delicious and absolutely worth a try. At $7 per order (one size only - five "rolls" of ice cream with your choice of topics comes with each order), it is a pricy cup of ice cream, but I consider it fair for the labor and the quality. Each order is painstakingly made by hand and to your customization. There is a choice of different combinations which you can tailor with your own preference of toppings. I've tried the Hulk Smash (matcha + strawberries) and Don't Thai Me Down (thai iced tea + coconut flakes) and both were absolutely scrumptious. My hubby ordered the Peanut Butter Me Up and had a toasted marshmallow with it, which he said would please any peanut butter lovers out there. We've noticed that while for the most part the quality of the end product is similar, there are still noticeable differences between some of the staff and how the rolls come out in the end - but don't let that deter you from ordering. I am pretty sure at this point any flavor you get would be great. I recommend adding pocky and condensed milk to the Asian ice cream flavors - trust me, I wouldn't steer you wrong. Each order is served with a nifty color-changing spoon that turns blue when it's cold. The fact that the spoons are bright blue, sitting in my kitchen sink right now tells me I need to turn the heat up in my house. They have a loyalty stamp card, make sure you hold on to one. So glad a great ice cream place as finally come to this area of Montclair! read more

The spot is setup nicely with plenty of foot traffic so it's hard to miss. Initially, they tell you it's a 15-20 minute wait or more depending on the day but it moves fairly quick. Staff is super polite and helpful with the menu. I've never really been one for ice cream but the creative options and concept sold me on the idea. One strawberry shortcake later, I left very satisfied and impressed. They let you deck out your selection with some great toppings too. The seating is a bit tight so maybe best to grab to go. read more

My friend brought me here for ice cream after dinner & I was surprised how good it was. It's freshly made with milk and then they freeze it, roll it, and add your toppings! Staff was super friendly, and it was busy on a Friday night so you know the items are good! I'd definitely go back to try more of their ice cream flavors. read more

Perhaps rolled-style ice cream is getting a bit old, but it's still always fun to watch the process and see how the joints are mixing up the variations to keep it fresh. This one in the heart of Montclair must be a popular place as it's still packed even in mid-winter. We tried the matcha based Hulk smash (I just can't escape my obsession with green tea -- but only because the Thai tea selection is Sold Out. And right after I placed my order, someone put a Sold Out sticky on the matcha tea as well!) the strong flavored Vietnamese "Owl you need is" Coffee, and the purple yam-based "Oo-Bae-Bae". They put quite generous portions of toppings on your cup, and you can top it with (what else?) matcha pocky sticks. And oh, the spoon changes color to purple when it's cold (but not to something else when it's warm -- too bad....) At $7 per cup, the price is a bit steep, but they can get away with it given a Montclair location and virtually no competition nearby. Delish ice-cream nevertheless with eclectic selections of flavors. read more
So this was 1st time here per my friend Valencia AND she did not tell us that ummmmm that the line and wait would be looooooong! I have never waited so long for ice cream in my life. So be prepared to look for parking and wait at least 45minutes. The staff is friendly and has amazing biceps :-) Making this ice cream was quite amazing and entertaining to me. To see the milk turn into ice cream and was nice and flat and thin. Adding the strawberry sticks and the toasted marshmallow (OMG!!!)...like heaven!!! The ice cream was tasty and refreshing at the same time. If you haven't been at least once you are missing out. read more
I thought that Absolute zero was awesome and had so many toppings options to offer! My friend ordered the smores and I got the strawberry shortcake, they only offer one size so go big or go home. I love watching them make your ice cream rite in front of you fresh and made to order. I can't help but be that person to take a video and post it on snapchat for the world to see.... of the entire process. I thought it was pretty cool that my friend was offered a roasted marshmallow and I really loved that there were three different flavors of poky sticks toppings available! That rite there is a five star in my book. But seriously this ice cream was delicious. It had a silky texture to it which I really enjoyed and my combo of adding the fresh strawberries and whipped cream along with the poky sticks was pure heave. The whole process took all of 5 mins and I really can't wait to come back and try some more flavors Absolute Zero Ice Cream has to offer. read more

Let me just say that the staff is uber nice and very helpful. I came in with my friend and she had no idea about this new concept. The gentleman behind the counter was so nice in explaining everything everything to her. After that we ordered. We both didn't want our own so he offered to just make one and split it between two cups. Let me say that it was yummy yummy. We had purple yams with coconut and condense milk. I will be back for the Vietnamese ice cream really soon. read more
Hey bae bae, hey bae bae, hey! So it looks like this place is more than just hype after all. My boyfriend and I came here in the summer but it was an hr wait and the line was out the door. Since we didn't know that until after we had dinner, we just decided to come another time. Tonight we were in the area and had a taste for dessert. I got the Oo-Bae Bae (Ube with condensed milk + coconut flakes) with pocky & teddy grahams. It was my first time having having ube ice cream and cashier was nice enough to offer me a sample of the base. It's a light and sweet flavor. It's different but it's pleasant-- nothing to not like about it. My boyfriend had the Peanut Butter Me Up with Nutter Butter cookies mixed in and Reese's + caramel on top. I never get peanut butter ice cream but this was so good I would get it for myself. The peanut butter wasn't overpowering and the nutter butter gave it a nice crunch. My boyfriend, who LOVES peanut butter, said he liked it but we would've wanted more of the peanut butter flavor. What does he know anyway? Lol. I love that you can get unlimited toppings. I kept it light since it was my first time having ube and didn't want to go overboard. However, the light flavor of the ice cream allows room for toppings without the overwhelming sugar overload. All around good experience for me. I'll definitely be back. read more

Small spot with limited seating but I recommend stopping by while in the area. Flavors are limited but they pair ice cream flavors with toppings to help make decisions. Once you place your order you stand in front of a plastic barrier where they show you your dessert in the making (cute for the kids). Toppings are unlimited. Also the spoons change with the temperature Only reason why I gave 4 stars was because the flavor choices are limited but it's a small hole in the wall so I can not expect them to have every crayon in the box. And there is very limited seating and not much place to stand if your waiting for your turn at the glass. Parking: street parking read more
Went for Dessert Food - 5/5. I've only had one other rolled ice cream before and thought it was mediocre, but Absolute Zero completely changed my mind! The dream team was smooth and every bite had delectable bits of strawberry and banana in it. The finely diced fresh fruit makes the rolled ice cream have a different flavor and texture compared to regular flavored ice cream making the whole process more than just a gimmick. Service - 5/5. They are generous with how much topping you can put on and they really let you customize your own ice cream, even if it differs greatly from the original flavor. Nice service! Value - 5/5. Delicious, unique ice cream that you can customize however you want. $7 is not on the lower end but the experience is absolutely worth the price! Parking - Street (Metered) read more

Friendly staff, great creamy ice cream, fun to watch your ice cream being made in front of you, amazing topics and best of all they have clever names for their ice creams which makes for a fun time. Example the coffee flavor is called "owl you need is coffee". Need I say more? Adds a fun vibe to the Montclair scene read more

Place is yum! Solid quality rolled ice cream. Order then wait to watch your ice cream get made. Got the viet coffee with coconut flakes almond and mochi. A solid $7 for the ice cream with any toppings you want. Which in the end is pricy but at least you know up front what you're getting. The ice cream is flavorful and the toppings are fresh. Would def try again and get another flavorrrrr read more
