This has nothing to do with the treat and everything to do with the service. This past weekend my wife and I went to Lets Yo. I had received a $5 birthday promo and was excited to use it since it had been a while since our last visit. We originally planned to go earlier in the week but got busy, so we ended up going on Saturday despite the terrible weather. We picked our flavors and toppings and headed to checkout. I entered my phone number but the promo didn't show up. After checking my phone, I realized it had just expired. I asked the attendant if, since it was for my birthday, they could honor it. She went to ask the manager. The manager came over and I explained the situation. She said no, her reasoning? "If I do it for you, I have to do it for everyone." That didn't sit right with me. How many people are really coming in every day asking to honor an expired birthday promo? For a small oversight, I'd have to wait another year to use it? It made me feel like my business didn't matter. We're talking about $5, not a free treat. I work in the financial/service industry, so I pay close attention to customer experience. This interaction said a lot: the attendant likely didn't have the authority, but the manager had the opportunity to create a positive moment and chose not to. Moments like that are where you either create a loyal customer or lose one over something small. Safe to say, this wasn't handled well. I left more disappointed than anything. I personally love this place. I'm a sucker for the fluffy, light, yet creamy fro yo they serve. It's a fun experience filling your own cup with whatever you want, and they have great flavors there. They have soo many flavors to choose from and endless toppings you can put on your froyo. If you're not sure on what flavors to pick, the workers come out from behind the counter and all you have to do is tell them what flavor you want to try and they vend it into a small sample cup. The best part about self served froyo is that you can mix whichever flavor you want as much as you want and you can also do the same with the toppings as well. Keep in mind that they do charge by weight so the heavier your cup is, the more it's gonna cost. Also the great thing about let's yo is that all the tables have iPads on them to entertain their guest and it's just a cool hangout spot to chill with your friends. We've always enjoyed coming to Let's Yo; however, I guess yesterday was the first time we'd been back in since COVID started, and I was not prepared for the sticker shock. The best part of the self-serve fro-yo places, is being able to serve yourself, including hand selecting the toppings (re: amount, types, variety). I understand things have changed due to current circumstances, but while you can still serve yourself re: the yogurt, they now have most of the toppings in single serve plastic cups. My mistake, was not asking how the toppings now "work" (re: selection, pricing). We had two cups of yogurt - one 2/3 full, the other 1/2 full - and each selected 2 toppings (which they now add to the scale along with your yogurt = doesn't make any sense since you can't control the amount)....the grand total...$22...yes, twenty-two dollars. Unbelievable. There has to be a better way. Either have the people behind the counter help by serving toppings, or set a price - like, first topping is free, each additional = 50 cents, something along those lines? I'd usually add a little bit of 4-5 toppings and the entire cup was approx $6-8. Now you have to select 1 or 2 and pay for way more than you probably want. I finally succumbed to all the overwhelming hype about this place and went to try it out. The favorita and I had talked about giving "Let's Yo!" a go since we first got a flyer for the place months ago and clowned the lame name to the point that we now refer to it as "Get Yo' Gurt On!" We should have walked but we didn't realize it was on the south side of Bloomfield Ave on Valley Rd rather than the north side (thinking it was towards Upper Montclair.) The parking lot next to Let's Yo! is metered and permit only. We parked around the corner by the park where the signs say "10 minute parking" after almost getting into an altercation with and elderly couple in a Lincoln Continental (they started it. they lucky we ain't finish it.) When we entered, the people working behind the counter and some extra-fashionably dressed fella (who seemed to know many of the customers) greeted us quite happily. That was nice. The next thing I notice is a long row of cereal dispensers. I thought it was if maybe you just wanted a bowl of cereal (which I thought would be maybe kinda cool) but a sign above the dispensers led me to believe it was just for mixing with your yogurt...which at that point I was thinking, "Where's the yogurt already?" Oh, it's all the way in the back. The favorita found the guy working the floor was there to offer samples, of which she partook in a few, sharing with me: -strawberry cheesecake - okay. not a lot of cheesecake flavor though. -something coffee cake - pretty good. -and what i came for - sea salted caramel... wait, that's caramel? i love caramel. that's not caramel as i know it... and it's not just a difference of sea salt... I look at the little monitor above the yogurt dispenser as the screen bounces around with different info and finally see that it's "sea-salted caramel pretzel." Oh, i could do without the pretzel, but it's still good. Thanks for misleading me everyone who ever talked about this flavor! There are other interesting flavors though, like "birthday cake" and "cookie monster" (oreo) and a chocolate "pudding pudgy-something-or-other." They also have a couple fruity flavors in sorbet. However, most of the flavors on their website - at least half of them - I did not see. I would probably never have left had they actually had "caramel custard." And I did expect more flavors than I'd know what to do with, but there really aren't an overwhelming amount, so that really didn't present a dilemma for me. Props on their toppings for things like actual chunks of apple pie, and what seemed like the freshest mochi I've ever had. If mochi can be fresh. I don't even know what mochi really is (is it like when a gummi bear mates with a marshmallow and 9 months later...mochi?) but I love me some mochi, and theirs was the best ever. You can put this in a waffle cone, a styrofoam bowl or a waxy-coated-cardboard (I don't know how to explain it?) bowl. I didn't understand the difference between the two bowls - they were fairly the same size - one just isn't biodegradable - but they did have to be weighed separately due to their difference. But I believe everything is $0.49/oz. There's a big screen monitor over the bowl/cone selection, but it was like info-overkill. Except it didn't explain the bowl situation. I've heard talk of how extra healthy this yogurt is supposed to be here, but just from skimming a couple of the main ingredients in the sea-salted caramel pretzel (corn syrup, caramel flavor...) I wasn't impressed. Caramel FLAVOR? seriously? I didn't read more because I didn't want to ruin the "yogurt experience" I was about to have. So we create our concoctions, pay, and have a seat at a small table with a green metal monitor bolted to the center of the table on which one could basically play PacMan or browse Amazon. Mind you it's touchscreen, so I couldn't help thinking how many other sticky fingers had been all over it. I dig into my bowl and it's bangin'. Yes, like a benzi box. And while I'm known for being quite good at putting together a bangin' concoction of the froyos + toppings to the point I should work there as a customer consultant, this was the best combination of goodness I've concocted to date. I myself was even a bit surprised at just how good it was. So while I found all the extra touchscreen this and that to the continuously scrolling monitors of info above the froyo dispensers to even the guy that looked like the Salvatore-art-director guy from Mad Men (have to admit i loved his shoes though) mixed with Thursten Howell III, to be just that - extra; what went into my bowl and later my belly was mad tasty. Don't over-anticipate though if you're a regular Red Mango customer. They really don't have any more flavors/toppings, just some different ones. They're pretty much the same price, and I would guess not quite as "healthy". However, it's definitely a nice change of pace from Red Mango, and TAS-TEE. Even though the caramel is fake. If you are the type of person who doesn't like his or her peas to touch their mashed potatoes on their plate, you may have an issue when you are hitting the topping area here, but it's not Let's YO!'s fault, it's sometimes the patron and sometimes the long stretch that you have to do with you arm to get to the coconut and it spills onto the graham crackers...* DIY froyo is probably the second best invention next to the dine-in movie because you can do whatever you want, eat whatever you want and just get it weighed at the front. It's always cheaper than I thought it was going to be so even when your kid puts sour patch kids on top of gummy bears, you will be alright. The staff keeps this place clean which is the hardest thing to do with kids spilling froyo and grabbing eight toppings a twirl. With twelve flavors all the time, not including the twist factor, you always have an option. The absolute truth though is that it's all about the toppings. Anyone can get a cup of vanilla ice cream, but how many can get the ratio of sprinkles to cookie crumble correct?** BEST TIP AND YOU WILL THANK ME IF YOU DON'T ALREADY DO THIS - fill up first with half the amount of froyo you want, then put in your first level of toppings. Go back and put your second layer of froyo on and then go in for your second level of toppings. Finally, you won't end up eating all the toppings first and be stuck with a pile of plain froyo with no sprinkles left. This place rocks! It's super clean, there's tons of parking, they have lots of flavors and toppings and iPads to play on!! When I walked in with my kids, we were quickly greeted by an employee! He welcomed us to the store and asked us if we wanted to sample anything. We tried a few flavors, then filled our cups to the brim!! The frozen yogurt here is absolutely delicious! There are so many topping to choose from that my 5 yo was completely overwhelmed LOL! They even have a coffee bar and a fridge full of beverages! I know for sure that we will be spending a lot of summer nights at this place! Hats off to the owner for hiring such a wonderful team. Let's YO has slowly weaned me off of my Red Mango addiction. Their quality and selection of flavors is better, there are so many toppings to choose from (standard brownies bits, fruit, all kinds of cereals, everything!), and the entire staff is wonderful. It's probably the only place where I don't feel like I'm troubling them when I ask for a sample. In most cases, they will approach you first to see if you want to try anything. My favorite flavors (so far) have been the mint oreo combo, and peanut butter. My boyfriend always gets the mango or the strawberry, and both are delicious. There is plenty of seating inside, and there are also a couple of benches right outside of the store if you prefer to eat your fro yo al fresco. Lots of parking in the Valley Road lot is a plus, too. There is literally no reason for me to go back to Red Mango with the far superior Let's Yo so close by. read more
