Walked in and ordered for to go. My friend and I were asking what was good and popular and she said she hadn't tried most of the items on the menu which is so odd to me. Today was the worst experience I ever had with this establishment. I decided to get Abby for lunch because I usually cook on Sunday but I was giving myself a break. So I was looking forward to some somewhat Southern cooking because they usually don't disappoint you. One reason why I choose this restaurant over many is because they don't use a lot of seasoning and the food is not bland. It also tastes pretty good. However, today was the worst experience I've had in the drive-thru. The line was backed up around the building. People just sitting waiting. Some people like myself left the line because I had been in the line for like almost 20 minutes and there was still three cars ahead of me. I'm not sure what's going on but they usually are fully staffed and they work with a sense of urgency, not today. So disappointing because I usually stop here at least once a week to get something and they never mess up my order. The customer service is on point. The managers are very friendly but the drive-thru line needs some work. read more

I don't think it was the driver, I think they honestly did not check the order when it was sent out and I got what I got. Abby's has now added roasted wings to the menu. I have had them twice and can't get enough of them. They are definitely a treat for me when I am in the area. I love that they continue to serve healthy food options at an affordable price. You can also buy in bulk if you are not in the mood to cook. This is great for those like myself who doesn't have the time to meal prep. Oh and let me add that the sweet potato casserole remains my top side from them. Went there for dinner 2 nights ago. Sparse crowd for dinner on a Wednesday night. Ordered at the counter and got the meat and two side combo. Hit the chicken fried steak, spicy fried broccoli and turnip greens. Came with a choice of cornbread or roll. Got the cornbread. Wife got the meat loaf, turnip greens and mashed potatoes. The counter attendant was good. Drinks are self served. The food overall I would say was ok. There's nothing special to say about the food. My chicken fried steak was medium sized and the breading was ok but I prefer some crunch to it. The spicy fried broccoli was fairly salty but edible. The turnip greens came in a small styrofoam container and was ok. The taste was bland. So that's why it's ok. Edible, somewhat filling and quick. Price for the meals was reasonable. read more

We ordered food from Abbay's and the food was very unpleasant. My order was also missing the macaroni and cheese. I ordered pork chop,black eye peas,Pinto beans & macaroni and cheese. The black eye peas and pinto beans were extremely soupy. I did not like the flavor. The pork chop had a layer of breading but under the breading was dry,hard meat. The breading separated easily from the meat.,you all need to dry your meat before cooking and use a egg wash for binding the breading to the meat. The cornbread was dry and tasteless. I've been a huge fan of Abbay's for years. I frequent the Olive Branch location, but while in the area I decided to try the location in Cordova. Traffic was minimal, and there was no wait in line. As for my order, I opted for the Fried Fish, Broccoli rice casserole and a roll. The rice casserole well balanced with ingredients and the portion size was good. However, the fish was more than too salty and overcooked for my taste. If it were my guess, I'd say I was given a portion that wasn't freshly cooked after ordering. Although this wasn't my BEST experience with Abbay's, I would still give them try. read more

After my husband had surgery a good friend from church brought us a meatloaf meal with mashed potatoes and green beans & cornbread. Macadamia nut homemade cookies for dessert also from Abby's that were to die for!! Large portions. Everything was GREAT!!! Had not had food from there since shortly after they opened not close to us (many other options close by us). Will definitely make some trips there more often now!!!! read more

But a family member went there last night and got three quarts of vegetable beef soup which normally would come with bread with each order but apparently this has stopped. And ordered six extra cornbread muffins. This is in Cordova. Brought it home to the family who just lost a loved one. Found that one was perfect one only had vegetables in it and the last one was nothing but juice. So I made it a point to call the store manager the following day and explain what had happened. First thing I am faced with is manager tells me do I have the soup and bring it back. No it's the next day like I explained and a hour away. Then I'm told they can only fix the one with juice. I said don't bother. But I will not be back. And I will make sure to let everyone know that they don't seem to care about customer service. I give credit that the manager seemed like she wanted to half way remedy the mess up in the first place. But the lack of care in her voice did it for me. read more

I've been to the one at Olive Branch before. It is what it is. Fast food. Restaurants cook food. Fast food places sell products. Some restaurants who don't know how to cook sell food like the food you'll find here. Canned and frozen. We eat canned and frozen at home sometimes, but the main reason I go to restaurants (besides hunger) is to get something that's not easy to fix at home. The main reason I do fast food is to get a quick meal, hopefully for a low price. I would have given 3 stars for this meal from a restaurant, but I judge fast food places a bit more leniently. As long as the place is fairly clean, service is quick, and food is at least average, I'm happy. They satisfied all these requirements and then some. Food temperatures were all good and I got what I paid for. Nothing to brag about, but nothing really to complain about either. I hate plastic plates and cutlery. When I went to the condiment/drink station there were no forks or knives. A plastic fork did come wrapped with my meal but there was no knife. I didn't want to leave my seat and since there's no service, I couldn't ask for one, so I had to eat the porkchop like fried chicken. read more

I like the food at Abbays and eat there from time to time. The 1 star is for the manager's attitude. They weren't busy at all. She said "can I help you" I told her I ordered online. She turned away to the to-go orders and said something. I could not hear her since the back of her wig was turned toward me. I said, "excuse me"? And she snapped back with "what's on one of the plates"? in a really rude tone, like I was bothering her. I told her and she picked up my bags and threw them on the counter and just walked away. No "thank you", no "have a nice day", no "please come again". This is a woman pushing 50, if she can't teach her young employees how to behave at work then who will? The fried fish was a tiny bit salty but some tartar sauce (that they ddnt provide) would have offset that. It was decent but i was also starving. The cabbage i had wasn't seasoned and tasted like water. My son had beef tips and rice with mac n cheese. The mac and cheese was so bad. Velveeta out a box would have been better. I would say Abbay's has loyal customers, since the man in front of me & the one behind me greeted the Manager by name, & vice versa. I intentionally arrived @ 2pm so as not to judge during lunch rush. But the 1st bite of fried okra had been sitting in the warmer too long & was tough. I took it back & substituted lima beans. The fried catfish started out ok, but as I ate slowly the same symptoms appeared. Next time I'll go @ 1:30. In general, I think most diners have converted from preferring table service to ordering @ the counter & DIY on drinks & condiments. The turnover of servers, inconvenience of waiting &/or mistakes, & tip $ are factors, I would guess. The Abbay's servibar was set up with ample room & well stocked. Dining room was spacious & relaxing. The nearby Bob Evans on Hwy. 64 was 1 of the 27 underperforming company stores that closed last year. One possible reason could have been the reckless drivers who barrel through the multi-lane Wolfchase Mall area trying to intimidate others as they attempt to enter & exit. Abbay's is in a less dangerous location with wide drives & a large parking lot with a drive-through. The manger of this establishment is very rude to new customers very brash, non polite very pushy around his young employees. His customer service abilities are lacking in every way conceivable. After taking my order in a hateful manner I requested a refund, he then refused to give me a refund receipt without me pushing the issue with customers piling up behind me. Homecooked food with a drive thru. They are a walk up service counter. You order from a large board overhead and they call your number to come collect your tray of food when it's ready. I got the chicken and dumplings with broccoli and rice casserole, fried okra, and cornbread. It was all pretty delicious, but of course they add a ton of salt and you can tell. I guess it's sort of expected at a place like this. There are a few healthier options I probably could have selected like baked chicken. My mom had the sweet potato casserole and really liked it. Precooked fried food. The wave of the future!!! My wife and I went in Friday about 5:45 pm and she ordered the hamburger steak with broccoli cheese casserole and blackeyed peas. I ordered the fried pork chop with spicy fried broccoli, turnip greens and lima beans. The manager suggested an additional pork chop for $1.99, I didn't eat lunch, so I said ok. Big mistake. I knew something was wrong when the whole meal came out in 2 minutes. They were serving me food leftover from their lunch. Being a decent cook, I know it takes approximately 20 minutes to fry pork chops. Both the pork chops and the spicy fried broccoli had the same breading. It was so thick and hard on the food that I almost chipped a tooth. I literally could not tell the difference between a jagged piece of pork chop bone and the breading. The pork chops were not even hot. I pulled the breading completely off and tried to eat one. The meat was tough but gelatinous, which is usually a sign of frying at too high a temp too fast and then setting. The spicy fried broccoli, just had a spicy seasoning added to it, but also same breading, precooked and was not edible. I threw it all away, and no manager came around to see why the mess was still on my plate. I told my wife I would rather have eaten at KFC, and their fried food is garbage. These guys used to try so hard back when they opened up in Olive Branch about 15 years ago... what happened??? It has been a couple of years since I ate here. However, it was still worth it, just as any other drive-thru establishment that I frequent tends to be. And, I love the fact that I can get lima beans in a jiffy. That tickles me. And some meatloaf. I have to third the Cracker Barrel comparison. It's all wholesome, down-on-the-farm stuff, and it's kind of fun to pick and choose your sides. Some of the main dishes are: baked catfish, meatloaf, chicken and dumplings, and the sides are lima beans, fried potatoes, mac and cheese, and green beans. This is only naming a few. And you can double your meat for under $2. The prices for meals range from about $4-$8. Good deal for a little variety. read more

You know, it's kind of nice to have this option on busy nights when you want something more than a burger and just don't feel like cooking. The food is actually really good here, much better than you'd expect from a fast food place. They have meat and veggie options to choose from with comfort foods like Country Fried Steak, Meatloaf and Chicken and Dumplings. They have a really big selection of vegetables including fried okra (my fave), black-eyed peas, mashed potatoes and gravy, broccoli rice casserole, mac n cheese and my mom's favorite - turnip greens (blech). The food is hit or miss. Today I ordered a pork chop, sweet potato casserole, and lima beans. The sweet potato casserole was dry and tasted old. The lima beans were all juice and the pork chop warm at best. The roll was th best part, I've visited once or twice before and each time the food has been average at best. I've gone at different times and tonight I went around 7pm on a Saturday. Drive thru had two cars, but the inside appeared more in use. I suppose I will have to find another place to get "home cooked" meals if I don't cook my own because this was my last visit. Some weeks ago, I visited Abbays for the first time and had the fried catfish. I was very happy with it, as well as the vegetables. I looked forward to returning again. Today, I went to Abbays on Germantown Parkway (the same place I went the last time) and got the fried catfish again. This was take out order. I can give a 2 star rating because the vegetables were good. My visit there was at 4:00 p.m., and my Order # was 14405. I am pretty sure the catfish must have been cooked upon the restaurant opening for the day (several hours before I went at 4:00 p.m.) and kept under a hot lamp the rest of the day. First of all, if there was supposed to be any fish beneath the layer of breading, someone forgot to add it. It was hard and too difficult to eat. I will say the vegetables were good, but I refuse to go to a restaurant just to buy only vegetables when I can cook those at home. I was very disappointed in my purchase. For one thing, my round trip to Abbays was a 30 minute drive. Secondly, I had to pay money for food that was of too low of a quality to eat. I think, if I were the manager of that Abbays restaurant, I might have to be just a little bit ashamed to sell such food as that which had been cooked for many hours (over cooked at that) and left for hours under a warming lamp. After my first visit, I made recommendations to others on Abbays behalf. Now, I have to make a public statement on Facebook and personally to those friends and retract my recommendation. read more
