Located centrally in downtown Hayward, this unique Nepalese restaurant has a bunch of street parking and parking structures nearby. We started with the appetizers - chicken momos and vegetable samosas! The momos were delectable and the samosas were piping hot. The sauces that came with the samosas paired so well and gave it an extra kick of flavor. For entrees, we ordered the tiki masala with lamb and butter chicken curries and a chicken biryani. We were given the option of spice levels from mild to hot, but we chose mild to be safe. Rice or naan is not provided with the curries, so we ordered garlic and regular naan to eat the curries with. You have to order the butter chicken, it was so creamy and you can really taste all the flavors! We were so satisfied with the plethora of flavors from each dish. Lastly for service, we were asked multiple times how the food was, the water carafe was always refilled, and the manager was so sweet himself asking us how he thought about the food. We were so appreciative of the amazing service and delicious food. Definitely stop by here if you're within downtown Hayward. Definitely will be back! read more

I'm someone who cannot eat spicy food to save my life and I was interested in trying Aama's because they let you choose your spice level!! This is hard for me to find when it comes to Indian food. It seems almost every dish here can have the spice adjusted which is super amazing to me! I had the chicken and the vegetable momo fried and steamed, all are delicious! But if forced to choose my favorite I would say the fried chicken momo! Although I think the fried vegetable momo filling kind of taste like pho which was interesting lol. My absolute favorite dish here is the chicken Thali. You can get it with rice or naan, but I like to do rice and then a side order of garlic cilantro naan, best of both worlds! I'm a lover of all sour foods and the mango chutney is probably why I love this dish, it's so sour! And they kindly refill it for me every time. But don't worry, non sour fans, the beauty of thali is you can build your own bite! The chicken is always well cooked and tender. I got the pistachio ice cream for dessert. The home made garnishes of candied watermelon really remind me of those sweets that you eat during Chinese new years. The ice cream is nice and refreshing. There's only street parking but I've never had an issue with finding a spot right away. The inside is cute and clean. The service is great and top notch. read more

The service was amazing. I was seated once I walked in. I came here before our movie started across the street. The waiter was so nice and attentive, even gave a purple cup to my niece. Made her felt so special with her own cute plate setting, and I had never received such a special treatment elsewhere. My 2 favorite was the shrimp coconut & garlic nann. The place looked good, pleasant ambiance. Our server was focused, eager to help. My companion very much enjoyed her meal. I tend to avoid hot-spicy food and prefer tasty and flavorful to tongue-burning heat. The garlic naan was tasty and I'm grateful to the server for suggesting the mango lassi. I was led to believe that the shrimp noodles could be acceptable for a baby's palate. Unfortunately, it was not. I ate the shrimp but the noodles were painfully spicy-hot, so I couldn't eat more than a few bites chased with the mango drink. When the server pressed a box to take find the rest, I declined and instead of graceful neutrality, he pushed and then felt compelled to show me his order pad to prove he asked the kitchen for super mild... That felt like undo pressure to me. I was willing to end the meal feeling disappointed... instead, I ended the meal instead feeling disappointed, disrespected, and unwilling to recommend that place to others. Discomfort leaves a bad taste. read more

Seems like a new Nepalese joint in Hayward so came to check it out at lunch with a friend. Parking on the street right out front was fairly easy. Plenty of tables available too. The momos were pretty good and a nice start. I got the briyani which was ok, nothing special. Fish curry was also ok. The only guy ordering and serving was very nice and friendly though. read more

Today we asked the ever wise Yelp for a new Indian restaurant to check and boy did it deliver. It's Indian and Nepalese and just wonderful. We've decided this now our go to spot. The restaurant is small. Maybe 10 tables. It's very well ventilated and comfortable. It's nicely decorated and sits on Foothill Blvd just off B street in Hayward. There is parking out front on Foothill. The gentleman at the desk and who takes the orders is just a kind soul who welcomed us, spoke with us and explained some of the dishes. This is the kind of thing I look for in a restaurant. Someone that actually wants you to be there and experience a solid dining experience. Kudos and 50 stars for service. The food we annihilated it. It was so tasty. It was served piping hot and everything to the Naan was fresh. I can't stand food served loop warm. This place did not disappoint me. Here is what we had.... Chicken Tandoori- this chicken was cooked to perfection. It was not dry. It had a very nice yet light sauce on it. It was probably one of the better Tandooris I've tried. Goat Curry (w bone) - I love goat. I have no idea why I just find it to be a great flavorful meat. As a kid we never had meat like goat but when I see it I gravitate to it. The curry was a mix of tomato goat and herbs and spices that just made my mouth happy. The goat is lean but has some fat on it for flavor and it's just good. Try it. Chicken Tika - creamy deliciousness with tons of chicken. The chicken wasn't dry. They made it perfectly for my better half who doesn't like spice. Garlic Naan- it was fresh like they just rolled the dough. It was buttery garlicky with a bit of cilantro and just went well with all that we ordered. I washed it down with a Taj Mahal (beer). If you in Hayward or even beyond look these folks up. Let's remember to support our local business! This one will not disappoint! read more

Best take on the butter chicken I have ever had in my life! I went there with my mom after being introduced to it a week before, Aama's kitchen never fails to satisfy all my cravings! We were fortunate enough to meet the owner himself who goes above and beyond with his customer service! Came here for dinner on a Friday evening. It was my second time having Nepalese food, having only had it at the Saturday morning ferry building farmer's market in San Francisco. Mmm it's been awhile since I've had Indian food and this place definitely hit the spot. I came with Lucy B. and Joanne J. on a Tuesday evening and we received excellent service. The guy working at the front was very friendly and cheerful! We ordered five items and it was plenty of food. For appetizers, we got the gobi manchurian, which is deep fried cauliflower coated in sauce. Wow, the flavors and textures really made me think I was eating chicken wings. It was so delicious! The chicken tikka masala plus garlic naan is a must. I appreciated how light the chicken tikka masala seemed. Most chicken tikka masalas I've had in the past seem really heavy. The garlic naan was really good too. We got medium spicy for the biryani and it was a mistake. It was a lot spicier than we all expected. I definitely couldn't handle more than a few bites. The fish vindaloo (salmon) was just okay. I feel like there wasn't that much fish! I would definitely go back for the gobi manchurian, chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan :) Will need to ask for less spicy next time for the other dishes. read more

We have tried the Chili Momo, Jhol Momo, Chowmein and Chicken Tikka Kebab - and all have been flavorful. The Himalayan dishes (Momo and chowmein) were the BOMB! Maybe the weak link here was the kebab...but it didn't look laden with color like other places make it, and I appreciate that. The place is open till late and the people who run the place seem to take pride in their food and service. read more

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!! Came for a Saturday lunch and right away, the staff were super friendly. They provided recommendations and even checked to see if we prefer spicy foods or not. We ordered: - Fried Chicken Momo: super good! I've had momo before but never fried. It did not disappoint. The sauce and spices paired nicely with the momo. Can't wait to come back and order this again. - Butter chicken: came in a cute serving container. All I can say is that it hit the spot - Garlic Naan: I love garlic naan & they made it well here! - Cheese Naan: I liked the garlic naan better by itself, but surprisingly the cheese naan paired better with our curry dish Mango Lassi: I love how it wasn't too sweet! Service was quick and the food was really good! The friendly staff was a bonus. They were attentive, and checked in on us. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to them--it was a whole experience! This used to be a tiny Filipino restaurant mostly for takeouts but they took the unit next to it so that it is more bigger. Now it has more space for dine in. We met Kish? The owner. Not sure how to pronounce his name correctly. Sorry Kish! A very nice guy and so pleasant. This place is a mix of Nepali and Indian cuisine so you can actually enjoy both. My husband and I loves Indian food and craves it from time to time. I ordered the Lamb Thali(steamed rice w dal, condiments, like raita, tamarind sauce, chutney, papadum and gulab jamun as dessert. It also has a veggie curry. Then my hubby got the chicken curry( lunch special of the day) and we also ordered their chicken tandoori so we can share. There were still lots of leftovers so we ate it the next day. It's good and price is reasonable. We'll definitely come back for sure. We like helping small businesses like this in our area. Parking is challenging at the front so you just have to go on the side of B street for parking. read more

Not sure what happened to this place but they've really taken a nose dive. Ordered a chicken wrap and have no idea what I was given. The ones in the picture were wrapped in nan but this one was in some dry 99 cent tortia that was soggy and fell apart. The chicken in the wrap tasted microwaved and the veggies did to. The final straw for me was, I asked for red chutney and was just given hot sauce. Like what the actual fk. I just threw the whole thing away and decided to go to bed hungry rather then eat it. read more

Outside is brightly lit and inside, the dining area is large, so there is plenty of room between tables. Even though there were many people there and music overhead we could still hear each other and converse. There are tables and booths. It's clean and bright. Our server was attentive and friendly. The menu is extensive! It was hard to choose, but I ordered chicken tikka masala because I don't see it offered at too many other restaurants, not the way butter chicken is.. it was wonderful! The server asked our preferred spice levels and the kitchen delivered. Husband ordered palak paneer and loved that the spinach wasn't over creamed or over blended (he doesn't like when the spinach is no longer recognizable as spinach and the palak looks like green baby food - this is not the case here). The palak paneer was perfect. We had veg pakora as an appetizer. It was SO good. Since we were celebrating a birthday and had cake waiting at home, we took home a lot of leftovers, which made the next night's dinner at home pretty epic too. For such a nice place, the prices are reasonable. There is a full bar. I had my back to it and didn't see it until we were leaving. I'm not sure if it is open all the time or not. When we return, likely for our anniversary next month, I might order a drink. It was about a 25 minute drive for us, so we won't be able to make this our new go-to, but you can be sure we will return as soon and as often as the opportunity comes along again.
