Chapli kabob and rice are some of the best I've ever had! For reference, other favorite chapli is at Aswana in Fremont. Also ordered the koobideh but thought the chapli the standout. Will be back to try the chicken kabob and other dishes!

Wonderful Afghan food spot located....(of all places) ....the Southland Mall Food Court. Not a place I venture often but when someone told me about Kabul Express KabobI figure I give it try. Placed an order over the phone and was ready when I arrived at the time specified. The owner, Nasir was very welcoming, friendly, and quickly rang me up. QABILI PALAU - lamb shank tender, flavorful along with their special rice with raisin and candied carrots. Delicious! CHAPLI KEBAB - ground beef that's nicely seasoned, soft, with a nice crust and light crunch from the seeds/spices Both orders came with a green salad, Afghan bread, and a spicy cilantro, jalapeno-vinegar based sauce that just kicks everything up a notch! Reasonably priced with generous portions! With inflation, I was surprised that both items cost approximately $32 with tax and tip. Park near the movie theater entrance, take the escalator to the food court and Kabul Express Kabob is located across the way towards the right! Plenty of food court tables for dining. Definitely check Kabul Express Kebab out as their food hits the spot!

I got the beef koobideh kabob plate and it did not disappoint! All halal food, which is great for those with dietary restrictions. Thankfully they serve with brown rice because these dishes with white rice is not as good. I highly recommend the beef kobideh kabob plate. It comes with rice, salad, and bread. Good value price too. I would get this again in a heartbeat. Food came out quick and seating is easy in the food court as well.

I haven't been to the Southland Food Court in years! But we were in the area and I remembered the food court has actual food places. We were really there for the Indian food, but my husband never had Afghan food (the things you take for granted when living in the East Bay!) so we tried the Mantoo dish. We didn't know what to expect, but it was good. I don't think it's something I am used to, but it looked good and tasted fine. Initially there wasn't anyone at the counter, but after we pressed the bell someone came by. Our food was made quickly and this is a place we would try again. What I don't like about malls are that the food courts all have the same generic chain restaurants or else "fancier" places that are all run of the mill. Southland is unique in that it has actual restaurants that serve real food. Hopefully Southland will fare better in the near future and continue to allow these smaller businesses to rent.

    Finished line.

After a long drained day from work, I told myself I needed lamb plate to fill back my energy. Here I was at Kabul express kabob again. Never be more satisfied than this. I felt like the owner took my review as suggestion. Today the plate was filled with raisins on top. The flavors were very tasty. He gave me two garlic green sauce with the meal. The green sauce was more spicier than last time but yessss i loved it this way more. Once again I couldn't stop until the last grain of rice. Soooo many thanks to be here near me!!!!!

My go-to is the triple kebab (which you can customize), and I'm partial to their shami (ground beef), chicken, and chapli (beef patty). The meat is succulent and incredibly well-seasoned, with the shami being a standout...definitely the kind of dish you don't judge by its cover! This dish is served on a bed of rice and small salad. The rice is cooked well. I have also tried several of their appetizers, and my favorites are the samosas and borani banjan (eggplant), though the bolani are also great, and the serving size is enough to feed a small army. The samosas are a nice departure from traditional samosas I am accustomed to, especially at India restaurants. The ones here are large, flatter (almost like an empanada), and not the slightest bit greasy. You can tell they make these fresh. The banjan have a nice acidity and a tasty cream/tomato sauce they are tossed within. The bolani can be prepared with either leeks or potatoes (or ask for a combo!) and are served with a cream dipping sauce. I feel that everything here is a good value, with the triple kebab coming in at $25, and the appetizers all coming in at $10-$15. You will not leave hungry.

This is clearly something the owner does because a few reviews below someone else mentioned her review was flagged and taken down. THE OWNER/MANAGER IS NOT A HONEST PERSON. The owner of this establishment contacted Yelp to remove my original review, claiming my experience was not legitimate. I am reposting my review with screenshots showing that | placed an online pickup order and visited the restaurant. The photos are timestamped from 2/3/2026. Transparency matters, and attempting to discredit a real customer experience instead of addressing it reflects poorly on the business. Flagged Content: Order: Chicken Shawarma Plate Total: $17.55 Location: 217 W Winton Ave, Haywara, CA 94544 I am extremely disappointed with this purchase. The food was not good at all. The chicken was clearly not fresh--it tasted old and seemed like it had been reheated in the microwave, possibly from a day or two earlier. The side dish with garbanzo beans also tasted old. The pita bread was cold and not even warmed, which shows a lack of care. The service was just as bad. When I arrived, the front door was locked even though the restaurant states it opens at 11:00 AM. I arrived around 12:35 PM. A gentleman eventually came to open the door. When I told him my name and that I was there for a pickup order, he seemed completely confused. A young lady then stepped in and asked about my order, and I had to show her proof that I placed it online. Apparently, my order was not in their system despite my confirmation. She told me my food would be ready in three minutes. I was on my lunch break, and there was no apology for the door being locked or for my order not being ready. I ordered ahead specifically because I was on a time limit. The fact that it was ready in "three minutes" made it very clear that the food was reheated rather than freshly made. The ambiance was also unpleasant. The restaurant has large chandeliers trying to appear elegant, but it doesn't work. Chairs were stacked on top of tables, so dining in wasn't even an option. There was also a strong smell of floor cleaner throughout the restaurant, as if they were trying to cover up another odor. Overall, I do not recommend this place. The food quality, service, and overall experience were very disappointing. This was a waste of money. I ended up throwing the food away because I was worried about food poisoning and didn't have time to return it since I was on my lunch break. I will not be coming back.

Their portions are fairly large, and overall the food was pretty decent, although not all of the dishes were my cup of tea I will say. This was my first time having Afghanan cuisine, so take what I say here in my review with a grain of salt. I rounded up because the food was pretty tasty and filling, but wasn't super impressed by the overall experience. So, to me, flavor and quality of the food is more important than the overall experience with the staff and vibes of the space. I would have given a 3.5/5 if I could. Food: 4/5 A friend mentioned that this is his family's go to spot for some of the most authentic Afghan food, so this is what I am basing the rest of this review on. We ordered Triple Kabob Murgh, Teka and Chaplee Kabob, Quabili Pallow, Mantu, Aushak, Sabzi Challow, Kado Borani, and Doogh. The kabob meats were all seasoned differently and were very tender, but everything else had a very similar palate to each other. Everything was fairly tasty, and the lamb wasn't too gamey, which I appreciated. If you try the Doogh yogurt drink, know that it is sour and an acquired taste, my friends said it wasn't good until they ate some food along side it. Staff/Space: 3.5/5 The staff wasn't the most friendly nor did they really come to check on us. The guy just took the order and brought our order and that was the only real interactions we had with the staff. The space in general was super homey and very much set for cozy family vibes. There is a decent amount of space inside and outside to accommodate for various party sizes. There is only street parking, which is not super convenient.
