Goat curry over plain rice, butter chicken, tandoori chicken
    Vrushali N.

There were a good 4 or 5 solid Indian buffets in Hayward for as long as I can remember. And this is not event counting the dozens of buffets in Fremont and the South Bay. All that changed with the pandemic. Quite a few Indian restaurants have tried to bring back the buffets but for a good one you still need to travel to the south bay. So it was a surprise to find out about this place serving a daily lunch and a weekend dinner buffet! I called ahead to get an idea of what they serve and it seemed like a good deal for $20 a person. I also liked that they had equal vegetarian and non vegetarian items so husband who is currently not eating meat could have some options. The buffet itself is small but there are enough and more options for any kind of craving. Two vegetarian appetizers. A lentil (dal), and a legume potato dish. A goat curry, a chicken curry and tandoori chicken . Indo Chinese offerings of vegetarian fried rice and noodles and one paneer and one chicken entree. White rice in addition to the fried rice, and naan brought to the table. Two desserts, chai for post dinner. And the piece de resistance- the momos !! Both in veg and chicken. Service was quick and friendly and all the dishes in the buffet tasted fresh because they made them in small batches as needed. The place itself is no frills and simple but seating is plenty. I don't know if we will ever go back to pre pandemic buffet levels, but for now we have this decent Indian buffet right here in Hayward.

Went there for dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the $19.99 buffet. It included vegetarian momos (so good) and chicken momos, served outside from a steamy pan. Buffet included multiple items such as butter chicken, barbecue chicken, Chana dal, garbanzo curry, paneer and goat curry. There were also two types of rice, veg chow mein ( yummy), crispy spring rolls, pakora, two types of desserts ( kheer and gulab jamun) and bonus chai. Everything was fresh and delicious. Customer service was friendly and very interactive. She explained about the buffet and brought out hot fresh buttered naans. There were thin, fresh and very soft. Totally worth it.

We came here on a Friday night and were the first once's in the restaurant. They had a Buffett for $19.99 per person that we did, and it ended up being a great choice. They offer a weekday lunch buffet and a weekend dinner buffet. Most people who walked in were like us, not expecting a buffet but agreeing with it -- seemed like everyone who went with the buffet enjoyed it as well. The buffet came with momos (which were served outside and options were veggie and also chicken momos), curries, masalas, fried rice and white rice, egg rolls, pakoras, a salad bar, grilled chicken, dessert, chai tea, etc. You could also ask for naan. We were pleasantly surprised at the buffet options and also really liked everything we tried. It was quite delicious and everything was also clean and clearly labeled. We would definitely come back and recommend the buffet to others.

Buffet options included this selection and many more!

I highly recommend treating yourself to this flavorful experience. We went in for the weekend (Friday) buffet, and it was a tremendous value, and the food quality was second to none. I loved everything about the restaurant, it has a nice outdoor patio if it gets crowded and a separate back room if needed. The ambiance was really nice and inviting. The staff were very attentive, polite, and friendly. This was our first time in and we left feeling like family. The restaurant was clean which is always appreciated and parking was safe and easy. The Momos were really good and I will be coming back here again very soon!

We came here for dinner on a Monday night and had a great experience! The food was delicious, the service was friendly, and space was pleasant. Our family of 3 shared the following: 1) Chicken momos - delicious 2) Pahadi chicken curry- very good; my 7 year old daughter loved this 3) Mixed vegetable curry - flavorful 4) Naan - good 5) Tandoori roti - good The food came out quickly and the staff was attentive and warm. I only wish they had cleared away empty dishes without us asking. The restaurant was clean and welcoming (though we could have done without the Nepali music videos playing on the TV in the background). Overall, we really enjoyed the food here and look forward to returning!

VEG MOMO - delicious, with an exceptional sauce.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Everything looked and tasted homemade--in the best way. The hubby and I were looking for a quick place for dinner on the way out of town and this place had some of the best ratings in the area. Plus, we are always down for Indian food! It wasn't very crowded at all when we stepped in, as it was still pretty early, so no problems getting a table. The interior was clean and pleasant, but decidedly untrendy. We ordered the following: - Veg momo (steamed veg dumplings served with a creamy spicy sauce) - Dal Tadka (yellow lentil curry) - Paneer Tikka Masala (sweet red curry with cheese cubes) - Saag Paneer (puréed spinach curry with cheese cubes) - Basmati rice We enjoyed everything, but the portions seemed a bit on the small side. There was free chai, however (piping hot)! Pleasant service too--overall a good deal.

We tried chicken momos, chili chicken momos, and veg chowmein -- everything hit the spot. Flavorful, well-seasoned, and satisfying. Nothing felt greasy or overdone, which I appreciate. The interior has more of a takeout vibe than a dine-in one, and service was a bit slow and checked out -- though to be fair, we walked in close to closing time, so that could explain it. Would go back, but probably for takeout next time. The food is worth it.

Little tiny place but the food is excellent. I have to admit I'm not a big fan of Indian food but I loved the variety of this place and there was something for everyone. I loved the fried lentil bean balls (falafel?) and the fried spinach (lol, maybe it's the wrong names) but it was good! Once you find the sauce that you like from the dishes then you can just use that sauce for dipping your naan or the falafels! My favorite dish by far was the fish curry, which was lightly battered and the fish was nice and flakey, not hard and dry. The butter chicken was tender and had a great sauce that I used for dipping my naan and falafels. The tandoori chicken was also very tender! I was surprised at the quality considering it was a buffet. Was expecting dried foods but it was surprisingly good! And you definitely can't beat the weekday price! As a buffet, they pretty much leave you alone so the service was fine. I was looking self serve to refill my glass of water but she was nice enough to walk over with the pitcher to refill our glasses. Loved it for the variety so I think I want to bring my friend who loves Indian food to the Sunnyvale location. Let's hope the quality is consistent!

Stumbled upon this place after visiting the farmers market on Saturday morning. We were lured in by the $16.99 buffet sign and saw they had good ratings on Google, so we decided to try it out. Why not, right? For the price, this place is a steal! They had a pretty wide selection of both vegetarian and meat options. Some of my favorites from the spread include the eggplant curry, goat curry, butter chicken and pakoras. They also had an outdoor station with veggie and chicken momos and pani puri - weekend only and a server helps you out here. There's also piping hot chai and desserts available, as well as a chutney bar on the side of the buffet. They bring you fresh naan once you sit down at your table. Overall, we really enjoyed our lunch here and would come back again! They also have an a la carte menu if buffets aren't your thing.

I re downloaded yelp just to leave this review. At this stage in my life, I am vegetarian. I can't believe I didn't know about this place until today. The cost of the buffet is so affordable by Bay Area standards, or even including Sacramento. The paneer is very very tasty, and are huge solid cubes of goat cheese. The dal tadka, though watery, is full of flavor for dal, just the right amount without being overdone. There are also some meat options for meat eaters. Very prompt water refills. I very highly recommend this place.

This updated review is solely based on the lunch buffet. I went with a coworker and was very apprehensive going back since my previous experience here was terrible. I stayed open minded and glad I did. The lunch buffet had a decent amount of options and I liked that it had a couple different proteins along with hot chai tea. The price is pretty decent for the food and being able to get more than one plate. I'd come back for the lunch buffet.

Came in for their weekly lunch special and enjoyed it a lot! They had a great selection of meat & veggie options. The food was kept warm & fresh too. The cashier was super sweet and provided awesome customer service too. For a 15.00 per person lunch buffet, you really can't beat that price for the quantity/quality of the food Gurkha Kitchen provides :-). I'll def be back to try out their regular dishes for dinner.

Visited on July 21: super late review but excellent customer service from the waiter. Plenty of options of the menu and the waiter was very helpful with selecting items on the menu. I ordered the Butter chicken and a side of rice. So much chicken I had leftovers! Definitely would come back to try a different dish.

This exceptional establishment has become my go-to destination for experiencing the genuine flavors and aromas that transport me back to cherished memories of home-cooked meals from years past. I discovered Flavor of India several years ago, and since that initial visit, I have never once been disappointed--not with the food, not with the service, and not with the overall experience. What makes this restaurant truly special is the remarkable consistency they maintain. Every time I walk through their doors, I know I'm in for an authentic culinary journey that honors traditional North Indian cooking methods and recipes. The heart and soul of Flavor of India are undoubtedly Pawan and Gurudev, the dedicated staff members who don't just serve customers--they welcome guests like family. Their warm hospitality creates an atmosphere that goes far beyond a typical dining experience. They remember regular customers, take time to explain dishes, make thoughtful recommendations, and genuinely care about ensuring everyone feels comfortable and well-cared-for. This personal touch transforms a simple meal into something meaningful and memorable. The restaurant's physical space itself contributes significantly to the overall ambiance. Abundant natural light floods the dining area, creating a bright, welcoming environment that feels both refreshing and inviting. Unlike dimly lit restaurants where you strain to see your food, Flavor of India's well-lit space allows you to fully appreciate the vibrant colors of the dishes--the rich reds of tandoori preparations, the golden hues of curries, and the fresh greens of chutneys and garnishes. Adding another layer to the sensory experience, the restaurant often plays bhajans--devotional songs that provide a spiritual and cultural soundtrack to your meal. These traditional hymns are a true blessing, creating an atmosphere that feels authentically connected to Indian culture and heritage. The combination of soulful music with the aromatic spices wafting from the kitchen creates a multisensory experience that engages not just your taste buds but your entire being. Whether you're seeking the comfort of familiar childhood flavors or exploring North Indian cuisine for the first time, Flavor of India delivers on every front. The authenticity of the food, the warmth of the staff, the inviting atmosphere, and the thoughtful cultural touches all combine to create a dining experience that nourishes both body and soul. This is more than just a restaurant--it's a place where tradition, hospitality, and exceptional food come together perfectly.

The samosas were good, not really rememberable or better than other Indian food spots. The bf got their butter chicken and the sauce was good. But I don't go to Indian places to get the butter chicken. I actually don't remeber what I got for my lunch combo, but it wasn't anthing to write home about. Pricing was okay given it was the lunch time special pricing. Honestly the atmosphere felt like a family shop where no one wants to work there but it pays the bills. There's a counter filled with unlabeled treats. They looked good but I had no idea what they were. Service was the minimum which doesn't really bother me but some people enjoy it. Felt really cramped filled with tables and people who think they're having an exotic lunch instead of McDonald's. This place is not for me and after I told by bf this he agreed. Kinda hard to find, it's like a blink and you miss it. Parking is sparse, I parked down the street.

Solid authentic Indian food exceeding quality expectations and a veteran in takeout service…read more Phulkari Indian Cuisine is a top choice for us when we are in the area as their food is delicious, made fresh, and packaged well for on the go families like us. We have our favorites from their menu but they host a variety of curries, proteins, and small bites/street eats. Panipuri - crispy balls ready to be loaded up with lentils, delicious fillings and sauces, these mouthfuls are great for starters but you'll find yourself eating these throughout the meal not only because you're hungry but also because you just can't get enough of them. Samosas - hearty fried dumplings packed with potatoes that are perfect for eating on the go. Great by itself or with sauces and curry, these hot pockets are a burst of flavor that will stuff you up. Goat curry - full of flavor and a bit on the spicy end for those sensitive to capsaicin. Pair with naan or rice and you'll be golden, from the tastes you'll be experience as well as the heat! Butter paneer/chicken - the sweetness of the curry is subtle but the creaminess is what will win you over. Smothered over chicken or paneer, this is a delicious palate pleaser. Biryani - solid staple, flavorful and cooked perfectly. Great by itself or paired with some curry or a grilled entree. Salmon - delicious but a bit overcooked for my liking but in a pinch, omega-3s can be supplemented in this meal. Overall, Phulkari satisfies our craving for Indian curry any day and it's great knowing that the experience will consistently be a good one anytime those cravings come up. We haven't had a chance to dine in but would welcome the opportunity to visit for a sit down. For now, they're still our go-to for Indian cuisine when we are in the area. Unsure of where you'll end up settling for food or not having the time or space to cook an elaborate meal packed with flavors and aromas? Phulkari pulls through as the restaurant of choice!

The naan was perfectly soft with just the right amount of char, the curries were rich and full of flavor, and the rice paired with everything perfectly. We especially loved the pakoras and all the delicious sauces that came with the meal. Savy was, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. Great food, godd portion sizes and a cozy atmosphere. We'll definitely be coming back again. Highly recommend!

When I got there, wasn't too busy. There were a group of Indian men, probably co-workers so that was a good sign. Decided on the Cholay Bature. Chickpea(garbanzo) in a curry sauce and puffed fry bread. I also ordered Chili paneer. Food came out pretty fast and the bathure was huge and two were included. The cholay was really good and tasted home made. I was a bit disappointed in thr chili paneer. Didn't ask spice level and clearly made for white persons palate. What got me was when I went to pay he said to add a tip. Clearly has embraced the American culture, but there was no checking on me etc. If you've been to India, or other countries, there is no tipping. Not bad, but won't be rushing back.

It was both our first times eating here. You order at the counter, get a buzzer and seat yourself. We picked a nice window seat and I had a nice cup of chai ($2 with one free refill). Chai was delicious. Spicy and rich. Perfect for a chilly afternoon. Our food took a little longer than expected to arrive but it was worth it. My husband said it's the best chicken tandoori he's ever had. It was perfectly seasoned with a great smoky char. The goat curry was phenomenal! It was rich and the depth of flavor was perfect with naan. We ordered garlic naan but I think plain naan would've complimented the curry better . The garlic naan was a little overpowering. All that came to about $45 including tax and tip for two people . Parking was smooth since they have a pretty generous parking lot. I'd recommend this place for family meals and lunch meetups.

It's a self service place where you order & pay for your food, pick up your utensils and they call out your number for you to pick up your food when it's ready. It's more a takeout place than a full fledged restaurant. We ordered the chicken leg kebab (5/5), beef seekh kebab (4/5), chicken seekh kebab (3/5), achari gosht (goat) (3/5) since it was rather oily with some weird cuts of the meat and butter naan (5/5). The folks at the counter were courteous and welcoming. Overall, a place we'd come to again to sample their other offerings.
