    Shrimp Gova curry

Probably one of the best/authentic desi food I've had at any Indian-Pakistani restaurant in the area. The food is true to its most authentic form, not overpowered with spices, just right. Everything we tried was spot on, from the Biryani to kabob to the curries and even naan! The -1star is for the dirty/not so clean glasses at our table. Otherwise everything else was pretty ok.

Came across this place as its located next to Annar Afghan which i indulged in the other day. Since i was looking for spice, i decided to try this indian/pakistani restaurant located in the Lucky's/Nation's/Popeye's shopping center. Called in and someone promptly answered the phone and took my order. * Tandoori khazana - mix of chicken, kebabs - chicken perfectly cooked and not dry * Vegetable pakora - still crispy when i got it home (potato, zucchini, fennel) * Lamb biryani - aromatic, flavorful with pieces of lamb (be careful of the bones) accompanied with tamarind, mint chutney and raita Customer service great...though i was told 20 minutes, i arrived in 25 and waited another 5 minutes...not a big deal, was offered complimentary chai. Place is huge with tables covered in white tablecloths, modern, brightly lit with an attached lounge with ever changing light colors...pretty cool. Gentleman who toook my order offered to carry my order and walk to my car...that was nice! Will definitely return as its now one of my fave Indian places after Favorite Indian...i do hope this place gets more business as this area of the strip mall looks uninviting...not sure why.

    big portions, great taste.

We came here on our way back from SF because we wanted a spacious seating area that many SF restaurant lacked. I wasn't sure if we'll like the food here (since it has very few mixed reviews) but all 6 of us (and 2 kids!) loved it! We started off with some seekh kabob and tandoori chicken legs, the waiter was very informative about the portion sizes and suggested what will be a good order for our party. We also got the classic chicken tikka masala (hard to mess up this one!), lamb biryani, and chicken biryani. Both of the rice dishes reminded me of something home cooked and very traditional, which I loved. The seating arrangement was great and the waiter as well as the young women working in the front were very kind, it seems like this is a family owned business and it shows in both the great hospitality and the food. Theres's a little chai station that you can help your self to after your meal which is a nice touch. Overall, this is a great spot for take-out or family gatherings and the food is amazing. Unlike many other Pakistani restaurants that offer a watered down version of desi cuisine, this place reminded me of what traditional Pakistani/Indian food should taste like! The best part about this restaurant? The portions were big (especially the biryani) and the cost is reasonable. We paid around $100 for 6 adults, 2 kids, had left overs, and we had ordered some take-out to take back home for 2 others too. So it was about $10-12 per person. If you're around this area, or like us enjoy SF otherwise but don't care to sit in tight little corner restaurants, come here!

Craving something different than my regular food! Decided to eat Indian tonight & had found this place on Yelp! When you first walk in, it looks as if it was part of the banquet hall that is next store! But it's actually just beautifully set up! The waiter who attended is was GREAAAAT! He greeted us right away! No one was in there so he said to choose wherever we wanted to sit! Actually asked us how we were doing. Gave us the menus & told us to take our time! Although the food does take a while too cook, you know it's fresh because you actually have to blow the food before eating it! Honestly, I forgot the names of the food we ate! But everything was delicious! From the chicken kabob to the chicken masala ! Love that they give you the white yogurt sauce for the food, goes great with the garlic naan! DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED of its location in Hayward, it's really great & the service will make you want to come back!

Chicken Tikka lunch special. Only 8 bucks. Well worth it!

1st impression: Hidden gem off Jackson St in Hayward. Once you step inside you notice a clean dining atmosphere, some Bollywood film music in the background, and a free Chai station while you wait for your food. Eats: I ordered the chicken Tikka Masala lunch special, wifey ordered something that wasn't even on the menu, which they custom made for her!!! We shared the veggie pakora appetizer and it tasted fresh and light. We had to get to go boxes because we couldn't finish the huge portions. Extra touches: Our server, Abishek, brought us complimentary chocolate mouse dessert as a thank you for dining there! He really went out of his way to make our dining experience better than we expected!!!

biryani with hair.was not even replaced because we ate 2 3 spoons already. for replacement we had to show that hair before eating.

We got the pani puri, the samosas, and we both got their lunch combo. The pani puri was like eating stale tortillas, like they bought the economy pack and will keep using them regardless of freshness. The samosas were good, not really rememberable or better than other Indian food spots. The bf got their butter chicken and the sauce was good. But I don't go to Indian places to get the butter chicken. I actually don't remeber what I got for my lunch combo, but it wasn't anthing to write home about. Pricing was okay given it was the lunch time special pricing. Honestly the atmosphere felt like a family shop where no one wants to work there but it pays the bills. There's a counter filled with unlabeled treats. They looked good but I had no idea what they were. Service was the minimum which doesn't really bother me but some people enjoy it. Felt really cramped filled with tables and people who think they're having an exotic lunch instead of McDonald's. This place is not for me and after I told by bf this he agreed. Kinda hard to find, it's like a blink and you miss it. Parking is sparse, I parked down the street.

The chicken tikka masala was flavorful and comforting with a nicely balanced tomato-based sauce. Creamy without being overly heavy. The chicken was tender and well portioned. The combo also comes with rice, dal, and vegetable of the day, which made it a filling and well-rounded lunch. The garlic naan was a solid upgrade, soft, warm, and nicely garlicky. Pricing for the lunch special is very reasonable for the amount of food you get, especially if you're craving Indian food during the workday. Service was quick and efficient, making it a good spot for a casual lunch. Overall, a satisfying lunch spot with good value and consistent flavors. I'd definitely come back to try other combos on the menu.

There are plenty of Indian restaurants in Fremont where we live, but since our favorite go-to place closed, we've yet to find another that perfectly pleases us both. He's a vegetarian. I'm not. He likes heavy spice and some heat. My tastes run towards mildly spiced chicken curries. If you are considering Shahi Darbar based on Yelp reviews and photos, you will not be disappointed. There is ample parking in front as the restaurant is in a strip mall without a lot of evening traffic. Outside is brightly lit and inside, the dining area is large, so there is plenty of room between tables. Even though there were many people there and music overhead we could still hear each other and converse. There are tables and booths. It's clean and bright. Our server was attentive and friendly. The menu is extensive! It was hard to choose, but I ordered chicken tikka masala because I don't see it offered at too many other restaurants, not the way butter chicken is.. it was wonderful! The server asked our preferred spice levels and the kitchen delivered. Husband ordered palak paneer and loved that the spinach wasn't over creamed or over blended (he doesn't like when the spinach is no longer recognizable as spinach and the palak looks like green baby food - this is not the case here). The palak paneer was perfect. We had veg pakora as an appetizer. It was SO good. Since we were celebrating a birthday and had cake waiting at home, we took home a lot of leftovers, which made the next night's dinner at home pretty epic too. For such a nice place, the prices are reasonable. There is a full bar. I had my back to it and didn't see it until we were leaving. I'm not sure if it is open all the time or not. When we return, likely for our anniversary next month, I might order a drink. It was about a 25 minute drive for us, so we won't be able to make this our new go-to, but you can be sure we will return as soon and as often as the opportunity comes along again.

This exceptional establishment has become my go-to destination for experiencing the genuine flavors and aromas that transport me back to cherished memories of home-cooked meals from years past. I discovered Flavor of India several years ago, and since that initial visit, I have never once been disappointed--not with the food, not with the service, and not with the overall experience. What makes this restaurant truly special is the remarkable consistency they maintain. Every time I walk through their doors, I know I'm in for an authentic culinary journey that honors traditional North Indian cooking methods and recipes. The heart and soul of Flavor of India are undoubtedly Pawan and Gurudev, the dedicated staff members who don't just serve customers--they welcome guests like family. Their warm hospitality creates an atmosphere that goes far beyond a typical dining experience. They remember regular customers, take time to explain dishes, make thoughtful recommendations, and genuinely care about ensuring everyone feels comfortable and well-cared-for. This personal touch transforms a simple meal into something meaningful and memorable. The restaurant's physical space itself contributes significantly to the overall ambiance. Abundant natural light floods the dining area, creating a bright, welcoming environment that feels both refreshing and inviting. Unlike dimly lit restaurants where you strain to see your food, Flavor of India's well-lit space allows you to fully appreciate the vibrant colors of the dishes--the rich reds of tandoori preparations, the golden hues of curries, and the fresh greens of chutneys and garnishes. Adding another layer to the sensory experience, the restaurant often plays bhajans--devotional songs that provide a spiritual and cultural soundtrack to your meal. These traditional hymns are a true blessing, creating an atmosphere that feels authentically connected to Indian culture and heritage. The combination of soulful music with the aromatic spices wafting from the kitchen creates a multisensory experience that engages not just your taste buds but your entire being. Whether you're seeking the comfort of familiar childhood flavors or exploring North Indian cuisine for the first time, Flavor of India delivers on every front. The authenticity of the food, the warmth of the staff, the inviting atmosphere, and the thoughtful cultural touches all combine to create a dining experience that nourishes both body and soul. This is more than just a restaurant--it's a place where tradition, hospitality, and exceptional food come together perfectly.
