    Chocolate Dosae

We ordered the chocolate dosae and were just mildly impressed. The dosae texture was very gritty and for a sweet dessert, it was a little too savory, with a butter and salt flavor to the dosa. The chocolate inside was good, but it sort of was overtaken and overpowered by the dosae itself. Maybe we will try one of the savory dosas in the future, but our experience here was just okay.

Dosae in Hayward, East Bay, is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic South Indian food. The restaurant offers a wide variety of dosas and other South Indian dishes that are both flavorful and satisfying. With its welcoming ambiance, attentive service, and reasonable prices, Dosae provides a delightful dining experience that keeps customers coming back for more. The dosas at Dosae are authentic Bangalore style. They are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The accompanying coconut chutney and sambar are fresh and flavorful, complementing the dosas well. We absolutely loved the masala dosae which is definitely a must try here. The set dosae and sagu masala dosae were delicious. We also tried their rava idlis which were soft and fluffy and the madduru vadas were crispy and savory. For beverages we went for filter coffee and mango Lassi. Overall we had an amazing experience and would highly recommend them.

F O O D + Sagu masala dosae: A fermented savory rice and lentil crepe that comes with coconut chutney, sagu (like vegetable korma), and pickles. The portions of sides were generous, and I felt like I should have ordered another dosae to finish them. *Be aware that Bangalore/Bengaluru style doesn't have masala potatoes or sambar. It came out a little soggy maybe from being packed in a closed box? S E R V I C E + Order at the kiosk at the counter for dine in or takeout + Food came out pretty quickly A M B I A N C E + Casual and minimal dining space in a cloud kitchen + Ample parking in the lot outside T L ; D R Bangalore/Bengaluru style dosae in a cloud kitchen. Overall, I enjoyed the sagu masala dosae and all the sides; however, I wish they had an option for a thicker and crispier Benne dosae like Darshini in Milpitas.

Most of all our favorite waiter, Shabi far exceeds our expectations when it comes to customer service. It is nice to be greeted with a smile, making you feel welcomed as soon as you get in the restaurant. Unlike other Asian restaurants, they do not discriminate you even if you are not Indian. Although we love Indian food, We are not Indians so sometimes we need help on deciding on what to order. He is so patient with us and he knows what we want. If he see us struggling with the menu, he knows that we're lost, he then recommends what is good to try and most times it's great recommendations. We highly recommend this restaurant to all food enthusiasts. It is one of the best in the East Bay. Try it and you'll know what I mean. Happy dining!!!!

There are plenty of Indian restaurants in Fremont where we live, but since our favorite go-to place closed, we've yet to find another that perfectly pleases us both. He's a vegetarian. I'm not. He likes heavy spice and some heat. My tastes run towards mildly spiced chicken curries. If you are considering Shahi Darbar based on Yelp reviews and photos, you will not be disappointed. There is ample parking in front as the restaurant is in a strip mall without a lot of evening traffic. Outside is brightly lit and inside, the dining area is large, so there is plenty of room between tables. Even though there were many people there and music overhead we could still hear each other and converse. There are tables and booths. It's clean and bright. Our server was attentive and friendly. The menu is extensive! It was hard to choose, but I ordered chicken tikka masala because I don't see it offered at too many other restaurants, not the way butter chicken is.. it was wonderful! The server asked our preferred spice levels and the kitchen delivered. Husband ordered palak paneer and loved that the spinach wasn't over creamed or over blended (he doesn't like when the spinach is no longer recognizable as spinach and the palak looks like green baby food - this is not the case here). The palak paneer was perfect. We had veg pakora as an appetizer. It was SO good. Since we were celebrating a birthday and had cake waiting at home, we took home a lot of leftovers, which made the next night's dinner at home pretty epic too. For such a nice place, the prices are reasonable. There is a full bar. I had my back to it and didn't see it until we were leaving. I'm not sure if it is open all the time or not. When we return, likely for our anniversary next month, I might order a drink. It was about a 25 minute drive for us, so we won't be able to make this our new go-to, but you can be sure we will return as soon and as often as the opportunity comes along again.

This exceptional establishment has become my go-to destination for experiencing the genuine flavors and aromas that transport me back to cherished memories of home-cooked meals from years past. I discovered Flavor of India several years ago, and since that initial visit, I have never once been disappointed--not with the food, not with the service, and not with the overall experience. What makes this restaurant truly special is the remarkable consistency they maintain. Every time I walk through their doors, I know I'm in for an authentic culinary journey that honors traditional North Indian cooking methods and recipes. The heart and soul of Flavor of India are undoubtedly Pawan and Gurudev, the dedicated staff members who don't just serve customers--they welcome guests like family. Their warm hospitality creates an atmosphere that goes far beyond a typical dining experience. They remember regular customers, take time to explain dishes, make thoughtful recommendations, and genuinely care about ensuring everyone feels comfortable and well-cared-for. This personal touch transforms a simple meal into something meaningful and memorable. The restaurant's physical space itself contributes significantly to the overall ambiance. Abundant natural light floods the dining area, creating a bright, welcoming environment that feels both refreshing and inviting. Unlike dimly lit restaurants where you strain to see your food, Flavor of India's well-lit space allows you to fully appreciate the vibrant colors of the dishes--the rich reds of tandoori preparations, the golden hues of curries, and the fresh greens of chutneys and garnishes. Adding another layer to the sensory experience, the restaurant often plays bhajans--devotional songs that provide a spiritual and cultural soundtrack to your meal. These traditional hymns are a true blessing, creating an atmosphere that feels authentically connected to Indian culture and heritage. The combination of soulful music with the aromatic spices wafting from the kitchen creates a multisensory experience that engages not just your taste buds but your entire being. Whether you're seeking the comfort of familiar childhood flavors or exploring North Indian cuisine for the first time, Flavor of India delivers on every front. The authenticity of the food, the warmth of the staff, the inviting atmosphere, and the thoughtful cultural touches all combine to create a dining experience that nourishes both body and soul. This is more than just a restaurant--it's a place where tradition, hospitality, and exceptional food come together perfectly.

The food was quite bland, lacking the expected flavor and spice from Indian cuisine. I even asked for some extra spice, but there wasn't any. One of the naan orders was also a bit raw and chewy. We got the pani puri, the samosas, and we both got their lunch combo. The pani puri was like eating stale tortillas, like they bought the economy pack and will keep using them regardless of freshness. The samosas were good, not really rememberable or better than other Indian food spots. The bf got their butter chicken and the sauce was good. But I don't go to Indian places to get the butter chicken. I actually don't remeber what I got for my lunch combo, but it wasn't anthing to write home about. Pricing was okay given it was the lunch time special pricing. Honestly the atmosphere felt like a family shop where no one wants to work there but it pays the bills. There's a counter filled with unlabeled treats. They looked good but I had no idea what they were. Service was the minimum which doesn't really bother me but some people enjoy it. Felt really cramped filled with tables and people who think they're having an exotic lunch instead of McDonald's. This place is not for me and after I told by bf this he agreed. Kinda hard to find, it's like a blink and you miss it. Parking is sparse, I parked down the street.

The chicken tikka masala was flavorful and comforting with a nicely balanced tomato-based sauce. Creamy without being overly heavy. The chicken was tender and well portioned. Pricing for the lunch special is very reasonable for the amount of food you get, especially if you're craving Indian food during the workday. Service was quick and efficient, making it a good spot for a casual lunch. Overall, a satisfying lunch spot with good value and consistent flavors. I'd definitely come back to try other combos on the menu.

New menu, new prices, new staff. Upon walking in they asked us if we would like to sit outside after seeing my service dog. I said no thank you (as it was chilly out) and they didn't push the issue at all, just sat us. They served us water immediately. This is a small thing but the water glasses were easy to hold and lightweight and I liked that. Anyways, they checked on us several times while we looked at the new menu, encouraging us to ask questions if we wanted. Rice is complimentary with each curry-type dish. Our food came quickly. When they noticed we had eaten half our rice, they repeatedly offered us rice and we said no thanks. Then they brought it anyways. We didn't mind, they were very eager to give good service and to be present. They refilled our glasses once they got low. At the end of the meal they came over and discussed the food with us, let us know about the new ownership and how they've changed the menu, and that they are using all fresh ingredients. They seem very eager to provide good food and service. The dishes were both flavorful. The vegetables in them were fresh tasting. Neither was at all spicy-- afterwards they let us know that they are doing all the dishes mild (Castro valley lol) so if you like your Indian food spicy you will need to tell them explicitly when you order.
