This is my go-to Indian restaurant. The food is consistently delicious and flavorful. Even when ordering through the food delivery services. This last time I actually went to the restaurant to pick up my order and it was a nice place, with a convenient adjacent free parking lot and my order was ready to go as promised. I ordered bhatura (two large crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside fried breads per order), butter chicken, lamb tikka masala, fish pakora, aloo gobi, mushroom masala - and it was all fantastic. Spice levels as requested, hot (temperature-wise), and it was gobbled up by my family of very picky eaters (not an easy bunch to feed). There aren't alot of Indian restaurants in San Leandro, but I decided to stop here before a meeting and to drop a flyer off. I got excited because they had some indo chinese dishes. When I got there, wasn't too busy. There were a group of Indian men, probably co-workers so that was a good sign. Decided on the Cholay Bature. Chickpea(garbanzo) in a curry sauce and puffed fry bread. I also ordered Chili paneer. Food came out pretty fast and the bathure was huge and two were included. The cholay was really good and tasted home made. I was a bit disappointed in thr chili paneer. Didn't ask spice level and clearly made for white persons palate. What got me was when I went to pay he said to add a tip. Clearly has embraced the American culture, but there was no checking on me etc. If you've been to India, or other countries, there is no tipping. Not bad, but won't be rushing back. read more

I hate to have to write this review, as I have been coming to Indian Grill for a few years now and absolutely love the food and all the staff have been super friendly. However, the service my friend and I received tonight was abysmal and honestly unacceptable. When we arrived, we were greeted and sat at a booth table. It wasn't too busy, as there were only 3 other tables asides from us. After looking over the menu for 1-2 minutes, the waitress asked us if we are ready to order, to which I responded that we needed a little more time. Once we were ready to order, I told the waitress we were ready to order, and she came over to take our order. However, she only took my order and then immediately walked away. I had to call her back over to take my friend's order. The food came out really quickly, however she aggressively plopped all of the dishes on our table and abruptly walked away. Additionally, our diet coke, mango lassi, and side of rice we ordered were not included with the food that the waitress gave us and the waitress also gave us an order of garlic naan that we did not order. I kindly called her back over to let her know that we were still missing our drinks and rice, and that we didn't order any garlic naan, but as I was speaking she cut me off and said the rice was coming and abruptly walked away. About half way through our meal, we still had not received our drinks or rice, so I called her over again to kindly ask when these items would be out. She said that they did not have any mango lassi and that she would check on the other items. We never ended up receiving our side of rice and diet coke. She also never asked us if we were ready for the check, she just brought over a togo box and held the card reader in my face to pay. I kindly asked her to show me the itemized receipt to ensure that we were not charged for the items that we didn't receive, which she did. My friend paid, I packed my to-go box, and then we sat and chatted for a bit. At this point it was only us and only one other table still in the restaurant. At 8:50pm, she came over and asked us if we needed anything else. We said we are okay and she said okay because we are closing, basically telling us to get out. Even though, according to the hours posted on their door and on Apple Maps, they don't close until 9:30pm. She also did not kick the other table out. I have never been served by this waitress before, nor have I seen her before. I'm not sure if she is new and/or if she was having a bad day or if she felt overstimulated, but her service was unacceptable. I try to be empathetic with food service workers, as I know that people can be really rude to them for no reason, but we were nice to her from the start and throughout the whole evening and were met with passive aggressiveness the entire evening. I would highly recommend having her take some customer service trainings because I truly hope no one else has the same experience that me and my friend had tonight. read more

This is my go to pick up Indian food. They are always timely and pack everything nicely. I love that the meat isn't super fatty.

Chicken tikka masala- 2.5/5 for me. The tomato flavors really overpowered this dish. Usually this item is my go to at any Indian spot Saag panner-4/5. Probably one of the better ones I have. Good spinach to sauce ratio Garlic naan 4/5. Can taste the garlic on the naan. Could be fluffier. read more

I usually really enjoy Indian Grill but lately they have been messing up my order. On Wednesday I placed a phone order & went and picked up an order. I ordered tikka masala sauce mild & garlic naan. There was chicken in my tikka masala sauce, it was spicy & they didn't fill it up all the way. On Thursday I decided to place another order but I decided to walk in this time to place my order so that they wouldn't get it wrong. I ordered shrimp tikka masala with plain naan. The container wasn't filled up all the way. On Saturday I walked in to place an order. I ordered shrimp tikka masala mild, plain naan, vegetable samosa and rice pudding. I asked the lady who had been taking my order the last few days if she would ask them to fill the container up. She got an attitude with me, she wasn't as nice anymore. When she gave me my order I asked her if I could have a spoon, she didn't answer me. She just handed it to me, I said thank you she didn't say anything and walked away. When I got into my car I checked my order. She gave me rice instead of rice pudding. I went inside and I told her that I ordered rice pudding but that she gave me rice instead. She said she didn't want to tell her manager because she would get in trouble so instead of refunding me or giving me the difference she said I can keep the rice and she would just give me the rice pudding. I don't appreciate her attitude. At every point when my order was wrong I was very nice and understanding. I didn't mess up my order they did. I really like their food but I might stop coming because I can get better customer service some where else. read more

It's hard not to go crazy ordering everything when I go here. This is my absolute favorite Indian restaurant period! I have been to countless Indian restaurants in the Bay Area to give you an idea. Their chai is the best that I have had and perfectly balanced. The chicken tikka masala, veggie Korma, veggie Pakora are the best that I have had. Their butter chicken is amazing! Naans are also really good! I've gone to other Indian cuisine and their portions are much better than other places. This is our first visit since pandemic. We were looking forward to the buffet but unfortunately they are still considering offering that. So we ordered off menu: gobi manchurian is an indo-Chinese deep fried cauliflower with a sweet spicy sauce, tandoori shrimp (not pictured) which I really liked better than its chicken-cousin, butter chicken, bhatura (we call the big puffy) and naan. Our meal included the raita, tamarind, mint sauces which were all fresh and added some cool to the spice. I have to say my fav was the bhatura (I didn't even touch the naan) light and fluffy YUM and the butter chicken. The sauce was rich and creamy and the chicken was tender not dry. The gobi good and the heat intensified with each bite. In the end I didn't feel overstuffed if I had the buffet so I like this option too. No wait at 6 on a Monday night, though more customers steadily trickled in after us. Service was quick and attentive. We shared an order of vegetable samosas, chicken tikka masala, jalapeno garlic naan, and rice. We were expecting decent standard fare, but were surprised by how well done the dishes were. The tikka masala ended up being incredibly flavorful and delicious. By not being overly cream-based like at many other places, the spices and tender chicken really shined through. The jalapeno garlic naan was soft, and the samosas tasted just right. They also gave free raita along with the standard mint and tamarind chutneys. All in all, we were pleasantly surprised and will definitely be back the next time we're in San Leandro. read more

We came here for lunch on a weekend and seated right away. Service is not attentive even though it is quite empty, and the foods tasted bland and kind of pricey. We ordered the chicken tikka masala, lentil (daal), chicken byrianni, and two regular naans. These are our stables and we tried these dishes often from other places too. The only think we like is the chicken tikka masala $17 (guess you can't go wrong with this dish). The lentil $15 is very very mushy and overly salty while it lacks good flavor (it is bad). The chicken byrianni ($17) is also very bland and lacking good flavors, it is also too spicy for an Indian "fried" rice. We like the thin naans that is a little crispy. Overall, we didn't enjoy the foods and services here. This is sad because this is one of the closest Indian restaurants near our home. We will just drive further next time. read more

They cook with canola oil. Good food, bit pricey. $60 for two items, rice & naan (total with tax & tip). They gave us 3 sauces, maybe it came with the naan, sooooo yum to add to the dishes & rice. Very casual place, good for kids. Parking tip! The lot next to the restaurant is free for customers, there is a QR code on their counter inside. The service was really good, but I have to say the food was mediocre at best. We got the lamb kebabs, chole bhature, aloo naan and mushroom saag. The chole were good, the lamb kebabs were pretty bad, and so was the saag. The aloo naan was decent, but nothing to write home about. Also, this is the first time I've been to an Indian restaurant in San Leandro. Unless you all don't have any better places, I would suggest you go elsewhere. Even the chai was super sweet and not like an Indian masala chai at all. Seems like it was made with condensed milk or something. I have been getting take-out from Indian Grill for a couple of years. The food is consistently very good. But last night I tried to call in an order and got sent to voice mail. I tried several times over about a half hour, and was never able to get through. Tonight I tried again, and a woman answered the phone. All she said was "Indian Grill. Call back in two minutes," and hung up. I waited 5 minutes, and called again. This time she answered and said, "Indian Grill. Hold please," and then she put down the phone. I spent the next 5 minutes listening and waiting for someone to pick up the phone. Most of the tie I heard nothing, rather than the sounds of a busy restaurant. I hung up. It was pretty clear to me that my business was not important to them, so I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

This meal was absolutely disgusting i almost threw up in my mouth. I walked into the restaurant and it was disgusting i saw so much trash and grime on the floor i almost thought i was in downtown San Francisco. The service was absolutely horrible. I waited an hour to even be acknowledged by the staff. I am very disappointed in this restaurant. If you want to come here i would highly suggest you don't. Take my advice and don't come here. After reading all of the great reviews, I decided to order from here on Door Dash. I ordered the Lamb Korma, Rice and the Cucumber Salad. Though the Lamb Korma sauce was delicious (though salty for my taste), as well as the tender chunks of lamb, there wasn't a lot of lamb in the dish. The rice was excellent. The cucumber salad was a disappointment. It was just a large round container with large chunks of undressed, unaccompanied cucumbers. Some of the chunks were on the edge of being spoiled. Although the dish was large, the dressing that was included, was in a tiny 2-tablespoon type container. IMO, this salad would really benefit from using smaller slices of fresh cucumber, some onions and fresh herb(s) so that it's not just naked cucumbers, and already dressed with the salad dressing, so that the cucumbers have some time to marinate in it. Normally when I order a meal, it turns out to be two meals for me. Although I've got enough for three meals of rice and cucumber salad, I've barely any lamb korma leftover.
