This exceptional establishment has become my go-to destination for experiencing the genuine flavors and aromas that transport me back to cherished memories of home-cooked meals from years past. I discovered Flavor of India several years ago, and since that initial visit, I have never once been disappointed--not with the food, not with the service, and not with the overall experience. What makes this restaurant truly special is the remarkable consistency they maintain. Every time I walk through their doors, I know I'm in for an authentic culinary journey that honors traditional North Indian cooking methods and recipes. The heart and soul of Flavor of India are undoubtedly Pawan and Gurudev, the dedicated staff members who don't just serve customers--they welcome guests like family. Their warm hospitality creates an atmosphere that goes far beyond a typical dining experience. They remember regular customers, take time to explain dishes, make thoughtful recommendations, and genuinely care about ensuring everyone feels comfortable and well-cared-for. This personal touch transforms a simple meal into something meaningful and memorable. The restaurant's physical space itself contributes significantly to the overall ambiance. Abundant natural light floods the dining area, creating a bright, welcoming environment that feels both refreshing and inviting. Unlike dimly lit restaurants where you strain to see your food, Flavor of India's well-lit space allows you to fully appreciate the vibrant colors of the dishes--the rich reds of tandoori preparations, the golden hues of curries, and the fresh greens of chutneys and garnishes. Adding another layer to the sensory experience, the restaurant often plays bhajans--devotional songs that provide a spiritual and cultural soundtrack to your meal. These traditional hymns are a true blessing, creating an atmosphere that feels authentically connected to Indian culture and heritage. The combination of soulful music with the aromatic spices wafting from the kitchen creates a multisensory experience that engages not just your taste buds but your entire being. Whether you're seeking the comfort of familiar childhood flavors or exploring North Indian cuisine for the first time, Flavor of India delivers on every front. The authenticity of the food, the warmth of the staff, the inviting atmosphere, and the thoughtful cultural touches all combine to create a dining experience that nourishes both body and soul. This is more than just a restaurant--it's a place where tradition, hospitality, and exceptional food come together perfectly.

The food was quite bland, lacking the expected flavor and spice from Indian cuisine. I even asked for some extra spice, but there wasn't any. One of the naan orders was also a bit raw and chewy. The customer service wasn't great either; the attendant seemed a bit grumpy when I was paying. Overall, it would take a lot to convince me to try them again.

New menu, new prices, new staff. Upon walking in they asked us if we would like to sit outside after seeing my service dog. I said no thank you (as it was chilly out) and they didn't push the issue at all, just sat us. They served us water immediately. This is a small thing but the water glasses were easy to hold and lightweight and I liked that. Anyways, they checked on us several times while we looked at the new menu, encouraging us to ask questions if we wanted. Rice is complimentary with each curry-type dish. Our food came quickly. When they noticed we had eaten half our rice, they repeatedly offered us rice and we said no thanks. Then they brought it anyways. We didn't mind, they were very eager to give good service and to be present. They refilled our glasses once they got low. At the end of the meal they came over and discussed the food with us, let us know about the new ownership and how they've changed the menu, and that they are using all fresh ingredients. They seem very eager to provide good food and service. The dishes were both flavorful. The vegetables in them were fresh tasting. Neither was at all spicy-- afterwards they let us know that they are doing all the dishes mild (Castro valley lol) so if you like your Indian food spicy you will need to tell them explicitly when you order.

I really like how hot the samosa stayed - I love my food really hot temperature wise. The owner's wife (I think) gave me the lunch box special even though I came late (it is from 11am - 3pm). I was so hungry.. and desperate. LOL she was nice and made an exception for me. The chicken tikka masala flavor and sauce is so good! Veggie korma is good too. The lunch special came with rice and naan - and it pairs so gooooood with the sauce from the chicken tikka masala flavor. I am glad it came with a water bottle because I was thirsty from all the carbs lol I'll be back! Love it!! The price is great. Location is local to me. Owners are nice and friendly.

Unfortunately, I had a very uncomfortable experience today that I feel others should be aware of. Around 12:50 PM, I ordered my usual chicken plate combo and paid with my card. Although the screen showed the transaction went through, the cashier said it didn't and asked me to pay again. After paying a second time, I checked my bank statement just to be sure and saw I was charged twice, back to back. I showed the cashier clear proof of the duplicate charges, yet he insisted the first payment didn't go through and told me to call his boss instead. He kept insisting I call his boss and that he wouldn't be able to assist me then and there. Only after an awkward back-and-forth did he finally issue a refund. Weird considering he said the double charge wasn't in his system and that he couldn't help me, right? This experience left me uneasy, and I won't be returning. I strongly recommend others check their bank statements carefully to make sure they aren't charged twice.

My go-to is the triple kebab (which you can customize), and I'm partial to their shami (ground beef), chicken, and chapli (beef patty). The meat is succulent and incredibly well-seasoned, with the shami being a standout...definitely the kind of dish you don't judge by its cover! This dish is served on a bed of rice and small salad. The rice is cooked well. I have also tried several of their appetizers, and my favorites are the samosas and borani banjan (eggplant), though the bolani are also great, and the serving size is enough to feed a small army. The samosas are a nice departure from traditional samosas I am accustomed to, especially at India restaurants. The ones here are large, flatter (almost like an empanada), and not the slightest bit greasy. You can tell they make these fresh. The banjan have a nice acidity and a tasty cream/tomato sauce they are tossed within. The bolani can be prepared with either leeks or potatoes (or ask for a combo!) and are served with a cream dipping sauce. I feel that everything here is a good value, with the triple kebab coming in at $25, and the appetizers all coming in at $10-$15. You will not leave hungry.

The inside from my guess seats about 40 people max but seems that they may receive more takeout orders. I appreciated the chicken serving on the Grilled Chicken Salad but, there was definitely not enough greens. I also feel that red onion would've leveled up the salad. The chicken was not dry at all. The beef kabob was tasty however, the meat serving sizes for the kabob plate was quite small.
