It is quite open so it can get noisy at times, but the ambiance is great. We ordered our drinks and had a main server & trainee. We ordered pretzel bites as an appetizer. Ordered a burger with no cheese, mac and cheese with fries, shrimp tacos and short rib grilled cheese. Everything was delicious though the burger first came out with cheese on it so we had to wait for a new one while everyone else had their meals. Oakview Public house is located off Green Oaks Parkway near the 12 Oaks Community. There is ample parking though the lot is a little small & as businesses join the area they may need more parking.

For a party of 8, all of our food came out at completely different times and some wrong, with a salad being the very last to show up. It was nothing short of a disaster. Now the food. I appreciate the change up on the menu but it just wasn't as good. A few ordered the Mac n Cheese and didn't like it. The short ribs and mash was hardly eaten. It did not look edible. Hard choice of appetizers now for a mix of older kids and adults. Quesadilla was just ok. The burgers were good but everything else just mediocre. You'll want to park on a side street and walk up to the restaurant. When you walk into the restaurant you'll be transported to a dark, warm, intimate, and buzzy neighborhood vibe. I'd definitely recommend booking a reservation to ensure you are able to get a table. Once we were seated I started by ordering the Long Time Listener Cocktail (Bourbon, Blackberry, Mint, Fernet-Branca) which was excellent and probably my favorite drink of the evening. For my other drink I tried the Structured Settlement (coconut washed tequila, peach, popcorn orgeat, and lime). This drink was also good, but not as good as the long time listener. For food, we started with the Manchego-Herb Biscuits which were flaky, soft, and didn't need any butter. After that we tried the Heirloom Tomato Salad (provencal granola, mozzarella ice cream, and peaches) which was perfect. The large tomato with the crunchy granola, olive oil, and mozzarella and peaches were the perfect blend of flavors. I couldn't stop eating this dish. Next, we tried the Half Smoke Sausage (roasted peppers, garlic aioli, balsamic onion jus) which surprised me. The sausage had a bit of a spicy flavor, the roasted peppers were prepared perfectly, and overall the flavors paired perfectly together. We also ordered the Bucatini (sea urchin, gulf prawn, spicy tomato sauce) which was good with the pasta and all of the flavors mixed together. The last appetizer we ordered was the yellowfin tuna crudo (honeydew, Fresno chili, shiso, tom yum ice) which was perfect. The sliced honeydew with the raw yellowfin was so good!! For the entree we split the Grilled Bavette Steak (potato rosti, shishito pepper, and sauce choron). The steak cut like butter and was cooked perfectly. For dessert we ordered the blueberry upside down cake (popcorn streusel, sweet corn ice cream) which had fresh blueberries and I couldn't stop eating this dish. I'll have to add Crawford & Son to my regular Raleigh restaurant rotation as this meal was excellent. Looking forward to my next visit.

It's small and focused, which I like, and seeing Basque cheesecake on the dessert menu certainly didn't hurt. The star of my meal--and I mean STAR--was the fried broccoli Caesar. This was kick-ass delicious. Crispy, beautifully seasoned broccoli with Caesar dressing, Parmesan and croutons. I would order this again in a heartbeat. Add a protein and I could happily make an entire meal out of it. I'm now determined to figure out how to make something similar at home. For my entrée, I ordered the filet mignon medium rare. It came with local greens and fingerling potatoes. Those potatoes were fantastic--shatteringly crisp outside and fluffy inside. Whatever magic happened to them in that kitchen, keep doing it. The filet had great flavor and was tender, but as I worked toward the center, it went from medium rare to essentially raw. The lighting is fairly dim, so I didn't notice immediately. By the time I did, I was nearly finished and simply left that portion on the plate. Next time I'd cut into the center early and, if necessary, ask them to give it another minute or two on the heat. The accompanying greens were fine, but the broccoli and potatoes were far more memorable. This feels like a true little independent neighborhood restaurant. I met the owners, Dave and Molly, and Molly steered me toward the broccoli Caesar when I was debating between that and the Basque cheesecake. She made the right call. I'd already been a little greedy with dessert the night before, so perhaps the universe was looking out for me. My only slightly odd moment came at the end. When I declined a box for the remaining steak because I was staying in a hotel, I was told their dogs would enjoy it. Harmless, certainly, but probably more information than I needed about the future of my filet. Overall, I enjoyed Stellar. It's comfortable and unpretentious, with an open kitchen, a nice bar, outdoor seating and a menu with enough personality to make me want to return. And that broccoli Caesar alone deserves another visit. Life is too short not to eat well. Get out there and find your next meal.
