It's a typical bar, but with the best steak in Humboldt County. The servers/bartenders are nice, too.

It was my first time here. since it was next to my hotel , I went here to grab a burger. They don't have a menu on papers or in a way that you can scan . It's written on right side and left side walls . So when people are sitting all over the place , you can not read the menu on the wall . You need to go close yo the wall next to people who are sitting next to those walls to be able to read the whole menu. They said they don't have burgers. Lunch menu was not also available. That's obvious, because I went at 6:30 pm . So I didn't want steak and fillet mignonette and pork That's basically all they had . I didn't want any of those , so I just ordered a calamari from their appetizer menu and margarita. They were just ok . Not that great . You barely can taste tequila in the margarita. Incredible grass-fed steaks in a bar with fresh draft drinks and the most wonderful vibe! We came in on a Sunday evening after a recommendation from Carter House Inn; our party of 4 got the ribeye steaks and WOW. AMBIANCE: Our party of four grabbed some open bar seats and we were acknowledged immediately for our drink orders and also kindly pointed out the chalkboard menus for our food choices. We all went with the ribeye steaks which came with a salad or soup and also a side of fries or baked potato or onion rings. The U-shaped bar was very cool and the screens on the walls showed either the games that were on, or something easy to watch like TheChive TV or Family Feud. FOOD: The flavor of the steaks (16 oz ribeyes!) are amazing and deeply meaty, the texture is tender and if you go for the gorgonzola butter, honestly takes the steak to the next level. If you're not a fan of blue cheese, the included horseradish sauce cuts through the fattiness of the steak if you need it. We chatted with Ariel and she mentioned that the meat is cut in-house which may affect the quality and hey, if so it really does matter. The doneness of the steaks were perfect. It's rare (ha) to have a place make a true medium rare and this place certainly does it right. Honestly one of the best steaks I've had and I've had Ruth Chris or Nick and Stef's - this place wins every time! SERVICE: We were traveling with folks from out of town and everyone was super kind and welcoming. Ariel helped describe how our steaks came from and really made us feel at home on top of our flavor adventure. PS: My stoic father in law is really big on health foods so when he found out everything was grass-fed he ate with gusto and was really impressed with the taste too. Great steak and vibe. If you want a fine dining/romantic steakhouse experience this is not your place - and I think most of the negative reviews reflect that. It's a bar first and a grill second- when I've been there, even during the week, it's always packed, and service can be a tad brusque on occasion, but not rude - just folks working their tails off! Having said that, my food has always been off the hook awesome, prices are extremely fair for the quality served, the bar is extremely well stocked and pours are generous, and the staff gets more friendly as the craziness winds down! We just left there, having walked in 2 hours before there posted closing time, to be rudely told that the kitchen was no longer accepting orders. Why advertise yourself as open for dinner until 10:30 if that's not true? It was our first, and now last, time there and a special occasion. But it seems like they don't care about impressing diners with their food. If the food is anything like the service, I'm glad we dodged that bullet. Plus it's across the street from the county jail so it was really dodgy walking to the joint with lots of sketchy people hanging around, inside the place and out on the street. We ended up coming to a really nice place called Gabriel's at 216 E St. At 9pm, they're still serving even though they close at 10pm. I'll be giving them five stars. read more

When the name on your check is Night Shift Manager like some 70s serial killer, somehow I feel like they know there's a problem. she kept explaining why she would not be taking our order yet. Take drink order. Bring one drink. Come back for next drink. Not take food order. Ask if you wanted food. Drop off place settings. Not take food order. Finally take food order. Took 30 minutes for an 8 oz filet min on and a 16 oz ribeye. Thankfully we'd eaten most of it before the disgusting pigs sat down next to us at the bar and belched loudly nonstop. She actually asked if they wanted another round though they were clearly wasted only an hour after they'd opened. Idk where you can day drink that long to get that drunk in Eureka, but there they were, about to throw up in our laps after a couple of market price steaks, and Night Shift Manager wanted to get them another round of PBR. Not kidding. Check. Two pigs came in a little before 6pm to loudly belch over PBR in a "steakhouse". So, you know. Plan your night. Don't bring a date. Or think it will be quiet when they open. Ck my old review. Keep cigarette fumes out of restaurant, I've live in Eureka 25years, craved a good BBQ steak. Went to AA steaks after waiting15years. Walked in stinkl knocked me back but I wanted "the best" steak that bad. They don't have Pepsi. Ordered a burger thought it would be faster. I was starving.Yetting sick by the minute from the toxic fumes coming in the opened door. Took most of burger home. Was SICK for more than a week from the poisonios toxic cigarette fumes. I'm still craving a great steak but can't go back in there. I have spots on my lungs "not cancer yet" haven't ever smoked in my 71 years. The horseshoe bar fills the establishment with small dinner tables around the edge. The walls are decorated with several menus, neon signs and large TVs. Low lighting and friendly staff make the excellent food taste even better. I ate the crunchiest fish and chips and everything else was delicious too. Options for a steak in Eureka are not widespread and don't need to be with Double A. Had my first dinning out experience at AA coming out of lockdowns in 2020. I remember how nice it was to have a bartender pour a drink and eat at the bar. So didn't understand what we took for granted before that time. Went there for the 2nd time this past month and expecting to see the sticker shock that we are all slowly becoming accustomed down in the Bay Area, I was shocked to see the prices. $35 for a 16oz Ribeye is unheard of, thought when I entered the bar I was transported back in time. This dive bar may serve the best steak in the county. Bartenders are fun, the crowd is friendly and everyone is there for good drinks, good steak and good time. If you walk away hungry after the pound of steak, fully loaded baked potato and salad, then have your doctor check you for tapeworms, because I had the meat sweats for an hour after. Must visit place if you are in Eureka, but leave the kids at the hotel, because it is still a bar and under 21 not admitted. read more

Not enough words to describe the amazing food and service we received by Kim and Dena at this bar. It came recommended by our hotel manager, who mentioned even if it is a dive bar, it is frequented by the local police department so it's safe, and the food they prepare is organic meat. Enjoyable steaks and other Americana foods. If I was diagnosed with a life ending illness, I would dine here before surrendering myself to the diet of infermed. As I have grown older, I'm sure my cardiologist would agree with me, it'd be wiser to not dine here. Especially not with any frequency. However having the option to have a great steak with single malt scotch, without a dinner reservation, is not something you come across everyday. It's right next to the county jail and courthouse. Rolled into Eureka late on a Tuesday night, flown into Oakland that morning, drove to a job site in Milpitas, then drove almost 6.5 hrs to Eureka. Checked into hotel and looked for somewhere close to get a late dinner. I had actually driven by A. A. Steakhouse on the way to hotel, so I deliberately looked them up and headed over about 1 mile away. My first impression was is it's a locals place and it was busy, a great indicator it's gonna be good! Full bar, menu's written on blackboards on the walls. Ordered an adult libation, fish and chips, soup and subbed the fries for a salad. It's late and I don't fair well sleeping after a heavy meal - I say this because this is a chop house and my skylarking of others steaks looked amazing. The girl who took my order was very friendly and accomidating. Soup was chicken dumpling and hot, salad was fresh and delicious. But, the fish was exceptional. We've all had fish and chips where the breading is large and the fish is shrunken back or it's just greasy and falling apart. This fish was hot, fresh and the breading was perfect. It if had been earlier in the evening, and I wasn't headed straight back to the hotel for a shower and bed, I'd have enjoyed another bowl of the chicken dumpling soup as dessert, it was that good. I don't get up this far often and my last time up here a year or so ago wasn't a positive experience. I will however gladly return to Eureka, if for no other reason then to revisit A. A. Steakhouse and actually eat something red, dead and corn feed! I'd highly recommend this establishment for great food, good music and friendly staff. read more
