    Two sandwiches, potato, and drink
    Vee R.

This was our first visit to aka Friscos, and we stopped in on a Sunday afternoon as the first customers of the day. The menu is HUGE, so many options to choose from! It definitely took us a little longer than the regulars to decide what to try, but that's only because everything looked so good. We ended up ordering a couple of sandwiches and one of their signature potatoes. The food was freshly prepared and came out pretty quickly. I tried the Alcatraz sandwich--while the ingredients were fresh and flavorful, I wish I had asked for a different type of bread. I'm not the biggest fan of white bread, and it started to fall apart a bit while I was eating it. My husband had the roast beef sandwich and a potato, and he really enjoyed both. Overall, the food was fresh, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was laid-back and welcoming. We're looking forward to coming back and trying more from their menu. Definitely a spot worth revisiting!

Steak Potato - A baked potato dish in a foil container features a layer of melted cheese and chopped green onions on top. A portion has been lifted with a black plastic fork, showing mushrooms inside the potato. The dish appears hot and freshly prepared, served on a white surface with a paper napkin nearby.

Still THE BEST Sandwich place in Frederick! The freshest ingredients piled high on delicious bread. Fast service. When you look at the pic take note that this is HALF of a sandwich; best bud had the other half. They changed out the tables and chairs. The new ones look nicer but we miss the old swivel chairs.

The Trans-Am - A sandwich with a sandwich bun, shredded lettuce, crispy bacon pieces, and cheese, wrapped in paper. The sandwich appears to be freshly prepared and ready to eat.

a.k.a. Friscos is a cool sandwich shop located amongst office complexes in Frederick, MD. The restaurant offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, sides and craft beers. The giant subs are named after locations in the San Francisco/Bay Area. I ordered the Trans-Am (named after the famous Transamerica Building. It's Friscos' take on a club sandwich, and it was incredible. I ordered half of a sandwich and it was more than filling. The staff is friendly and attentive and will answer any questions. There is not a lot of seating inside the restaurant, but plenty is outside. Don't worry, the outdoor seating is covered, so you don't have to worry about melting in the sun. If you're in the Frederick area and in the mood for a different type of sub shop, give a.k.a. Friscos a try!

Mac and Mac n Cheese-Cinque Formaggio - A baked dish featuring a layer of melted cheese with a golden-brown surface and sprinkled red pepper flakes, served in a foil container. The dish appears creamy and cheesy, with some visible pasta or potato elements underneath. The setting includes a table with utensils and a napkin, suggesting a casual dining environment, possibly at a restaurant or takeout meal.

What a hidden gem located in what looks more of an industrial park. Great atmosphere, tons of selection and our food was excellent! Also not pictured the steak potato!

Trans-Am Turkey Sandwich - A sandwich featuring sliced turkey meat and lettuce on a hoagie bun, presented in a foil tray with parchment paper. The sandwich appears to be freshly made, with visible layers of turkey and crisp lettuce. The background includes a checkered tablecloth, indicating a casual dining setting.

Had a fantastic lunch experience at AKA Friscos yesterday. The turkey sandwiches were awesome, as was the Chili. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Food came out in under :15 mins. The sandwiches were fully stuffed with meat - I could only eat half of it. Highly recommend.

West of Santa Fe salad - A foil takeout container holds a salad with shredded cheese, lettuce, broccoli, and seasoned chicken on top. The salad also contains chopped vegetables such as corn, beans, and possibly onions, with dollops of sour cream and other toppings. The background shows a checkered tablecloth, indicating a casual dining setting.

Nothing not to love here at all. Incredibly imaginative and diverse menu of enormous sandwiches, salads and innovative variations on baked potato toppings. What they do, they do with supreme excellence. Pricing is most fair considering the generosity of the serving sizes; definitely a place to share a plate and not to feel bad about it. The "West of Santa Fe" salad hits the sweet spot of what they are best at; Tex-Mex and California cuisine with an upscale feel. Good selection of craft beers too for happy hour or maybe an early dinner before a Frederick Keys game, as we have done many times in the past. Don't let the business park location and industrial feel fool you. Very obviously the restaurant is run by foodies. One note: sub-optimal place for a business lunch or for (say) senior citizens despite the great accessibility: its austere and thus, loud inside. One can come back here dozens of times and not be bored.

Great service and amazing food! We got 3 Alcatraz sandwiches, 1 trans-am sandwich, and 1 lomabard sandwich along with chili, Mac and cheese, and exploding potatoes. My personal favorite was the Alcatraz sandwich which tasted clean and the sauce really made the sandwich for me. Also I really enjoyed the exploding potatoes! Loved the atmosphere and helpful staff!

This place has really good sandwiches! I have come here a few times but to be honest the menu could use some updating. Sometimes less is more that way the focus can be on making things great and not hustle good. The mac & cheese needs seasoning it's nice to have all the cheese but seasoning is a must. I loves all the craft beer options and that there is a store attached. The young lady that took my order didn't seem like she wanted to be there but took our order. She failed to inform me where i would get the other kids meal goods(cookie, drink) and the cashier didn't informed me either. To be honest, I didn't have a horrible experience if it was OK it just needs some seasoning when it comes to the macaroni and cheese. There weren't many people in the restaurant, but overall it was very clean and things were in order. I would visit again

We usually get take out but I recently ate in and the atmosphere is nice and relaxing. Customer service is always on point - courteous and always willing to help you find the meal you want. My personal favorite is the Alcatraz sandwich - fresh sourdough, turkey, avocado, and sprouts! So yummy! This place is a staple for our out of town guests!!

Great food and terrific service!! Generous portions and super friendly staff. Just have to be patient wandering thru the office park Thr only negative: it's pretty loud.

We went at 4:30pm on a Sunday night when it wasn't too busy. Our waiter was very nice and came frequently to our table to check on us and asking if we needed anything. You can also make reservations online. Since the restaurant is located in a mountain area, I had no reception or internet. All the dishes we had were pretty good. They start you with warm complementary bread with butter. The filet mignon was our favorite dish with soft meat and mashed potatoes. The sauce was a little sour to complement the meat. The linguini in the seafood linguine was cooked soft so it's good for little kids, but if you would like it more al dente, you'll probably have to let them know. There were 3 mussels, 2 scallops and several shrimp all cooked well. The green beans were cooked so they were still crunchy. Some of mine were a bit too undercooked for me. There as a good amount of meat in the veal and pork bolognese over pappardelle. The noodle were cooked well and long. The Maryland crab soup was part of the daily dinner special. Wish there was more crab in the Maryland crab soup since I saw a lot of vegetables. It was pretty spicy which wasn't noted on the menu. The crème brûlée was cooked very well. Crispy sugar top and creamy inside.

While the garlic sauce was generous and delicious, the quality of the mussels themselves was disappointing. They were all open, but they had that "off" taste associated with older seafood. * The Main: Things turned around completely with the pork tenderloin. It was cooked perfectly and paired with a very flavorful sauce. Highly recommended! * The Dessert: Finished with the coconut cake. It was incredibly moist--perhaps a touch too sweet for my personal preference, but tasty enough that I'd definitely order it again. Overall, a great find with just a minor hiccup on the seafood. The main dining room is absolutely gorgeous with the stonework and architecture. The bar area was very busy as we were on the tail end of their happy hour. Our server walked us through the menu. We started with the ravioli appetizer. It had shaved truffles on top and egg yolk covered in Parmesan cheese. They almost had a little crunch to them and the inside was filled with ricotta cheese. The sides are à la carte as is most of the menu. I ordered the tavern burger. It came with beef fat glaze among other spreads and was very well seasoned. The side of beef fat fries were also well seasoned and crispy. The best dish was the pot roast. It was so tender and the gravy was so flavorful. This paired perfect with their creamy mashed potatoes. The service was decent but the food and atmosphere was absolutely amazing. They have a huge variety of cocktails and wine. It's a bit more formal Dining. It doesn't require a jacket or anything.

We received fantastic service from start to finish, from being seated right at our reservation time to our server answering our dietary needs questions to our dishes coming out in a timely and well-paced manner. Wye Oak's ambiance being set in a former church/religious institution is unique, providing an interesting ambiance. However, the food left much to be desired. While the presentation on every dish ranged from good to amazing, out of the seven dishes we shared only 1.5 of them were delicious. Some of the dishes were bland and one note; others were overcooked or overseasoned. We shared the following dishes: Coddies: While the cod was perfectly cooked and breaded, it had no flavor. The cauliflower tartar sauce added nothing to the dish; the cauliflower giardiniera at least added some nice crunch and acid. Savory Parmesan Cheesecake: The cheesecake had no flavor; the acid and freshness of the cherry tomatoes of the arugula pesto could not elevate or salvage this dish. Cheese Ravioli: By far the best dish of the evening. The ravioli tasted fresh, were nicely cooked, and the cheeses and sauce were delicious. Smoked Beet Pastrami: The beets were well-cooked and fantastically seasoned, complemented perfectly by the dressing. However, there needed to be more beets and a better beet-to-funnel cake ratio; while the funnel cake added some nice crunch, there was way too much of it and did not do much for the dish. Brussels Sprouts: Well-seasoned, although very greasy and overcooked. Broccoli di Ciccio: Perfectly cooked, but very salty. It did have good heat. House Rolls with butter: Warm and fine, but nothing distinct. I would try elsewhere if you are looking to dine out in Frederick, especially given Wye Oak Tavern's prices.

It was our first year of dating anniversary but we failed to notice when looking the place up that they closed at 7:30pm. We walked in at about 7:40pm and the bartender regretfully informed us that they had just closed. We accepted the situation for the error it was on our part and opted to go elsewhere. So barely 3 minutes after walking up to the entrance, we were heading back to our truck. The chefs were still there and immediately asked us why we weren't staying to eat. When we explained that we hadn't realized they closed at 7:30, they looked at us and said, "Go back in there and tell them we said we're still open for you guys." We were a bit concerned that we'd cause hard feelings and said we could just come back a different day, and they wouldn't have it. "We're the guys who'll be cooking, not them, if we're okay with it, then what have you got to lose?" We looked at each other and thought briefly and headed back up to the entrance. I had mentioned that I had a spur of the moment 'hankerin' for German Food, and he said, "Well, you're at the right place!" Before we got back in the front door, one of the chefs (we learned shortly after were the owners) was already letting the bar staff know to get us seated and taken care of. My girlfriend ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu, and I ordered the Pork Schnitzel. We of course sampled each others' dishes and it was beyond amazing on both entrees. Some of the best schnitzel I've had NOT in Europe, and the mushroom onion gravy was so savory and rich. The Chicken was loaded with flavor and I could definitely see that being on a future order for myself. After we were beyond stuffed, we decided to split a dessert for the occasion and had the Chocolate Mousse Cake. When the bartender learned it was our first anniversary, she made sure to get a candle to put in the cake for us, it was a very nice and welcoming touch. The bar staff was on their game with the service, keeping drinks full and checking on us frequently to make sure we were good to go. There were only two other tables still seated in the restaurant at that point, and they were actually there already eating when we first arrived. They were still there when we departed, so we assumed they may have been family friends or locally important patrons. The ambiance of the restaurant has a very British Pub feel to it, and it is so amazingly cozy and feels like home. We both left with an amazing impression and cannot wait for another chance to try some of the other menu options. I'm very curious to try the Filet Mignon next time, but the Stroganoff looked quite tempting as well. I think we both found a place that we'll absolutely keep on the short list of places to revisit next time we're in town. It was such a memorable experience and we so greatly appreciated the flexibility and hospitality they demonstrated. That type of service is so hard to find these days. Beyond that, I REALLY want to try those Eclairs on a Thursday!
