We came to Long's to make copies of both car and padlock keys. Tom was not only quick, but extremely pleasant! We saw the way he interacted with other customers in line too, and he kept saying that his customers are his friends :). He let us know that if we ever have a problem with the copies that he made, to come back and he'll take care of us. I highly recommend Tom and his team, and we will definitely be back! I really don't understand the 1-Star reviews they received... so I recommend disregarding them :). read more

Top notch service. I had a broken door handle and couldn't get into my apartment. One hour later, the locksmith showed up and fixed the door knob for a reasonable price read more

I highly recommend Long's Locksmiths. They are responsive, reasonably priced, and do great work. I had an old door lock malfunctioning and they were able to do the intricate work to repair it. Tom even found and fixed a problem with another lock that had been mangled by another locksmith a few weeks earlier. If you want to go with a local business owned by a skilled person who will take the time to do great work and explain everything along the way if you like, Long's Locksmiths are a great choice. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with the ease of which my first visit to a locksmith went, and this was due in no small part to the professionalism and friendliness of the staff (yay, go Tom!). My car key was in serious need of replacing and it only got worse as I continually put off the task. When I finally did make the trip, though, I realized just how damaged the key really was. At first the duplicate key refused to work properly (it got me into the car, but wouldn't insert into the ignition or trunk). Afterwards, I paid for a second key that also failed. I ended up taking the car with me (found close enough parking just off of University) where Tom kindly moved his van and proceeded to burn through many, many blanks (my original old copy-of-a-copy key was just janky enough I guess). Eventually the key cooperated with the machine and allowed a proper copy to be made. Some extra filing and lubricating later and I had 2 new and working car keys. Tom's dedication is hands down 5 stars as he went through about 5 blanks, but I was a bit annoyed with how long it was taking to get the key done, coupled with the fact that I had to come back with the car. Regardless, Long's is the place I will go to for all my future key needs! read more

This one-man operation (at the time of this review) provided great, honest service at a fair and reasonable price. I have a club-like device on my car, and though I have the key and a new spare, I could not remove the lock from the car, obviously therefore, preventing me from driving my car. The owner of the shop, Tom, was easy to get a hold of by phone and was prompt in the estimate of his arrival. Friendly and willing to share his knowledge, he had the lock off without having to cut it within a short time after diagnosing the problem. Tom deserves the five-stars that he has received to date. If you need a locksmith, give him a call. You won't regret it. read more

These guys know their stiff. O brought 2 antique locks to them to have keys made-Ine was from Germany and the other from Japan. He worked on it till he had them made-It was a joy to watch him figure it out as neither were easy, and now these antiques have keys for the locks. Perfect! and they are indeed a go to shop-dont expect a wham bam thank you mam type service, they will say if its possible and will do it if they can. I refere them all the time read more

I don't usually write reviews but I want to make sure this shop gets the recognition it deserves. They were meticulous about their workmanship and so respectful. They even put their money in the parking meter so I wouldn't get a ticket. I truly felt like I was important to them. I called many locksmiths to see if they could cut and program a car key for me and they all said no and that I had to go to the dealership who wanted 4x the price and would need to leave my car all day. This shop did it in an hour. I was prepared to get there and for them to say they really couldn't do it after all since everyone I spoke to said it's too complicated. But I wasn't disappointed and they did an incredible job at an extremely fair price read more

Very rude shop owner that was untruthful about carrying certain kinds of keys, so he could coax me into his shop. He later lied again, told me they don't exist & I have to have him make it. Update: found my key first try $6 online. Check out House of Antique Hardware. I just called this location & the owner picked up. I asked if he carried old dresser keys to test on a lock I could bring in. He told me I could bring it in, but it was unlikely since all these locks are specific to the dresser & must be made(later learned he didn't carry any of these keys at all). I mentioned that with research & reading about other people's experience, I had learned that although that was true for some locks, many fit to some standard keys that some locksmiths carry. He sarcastically mentioned over me that he would love it if that were true & wants to know where to get them. Thinking I was being helpful I mentioned where I was able to find sets (real keys, not props or trinkets), but just didn't want to purchase them all, since there were a lot. He immediately started to talk condicendingly about his life long experience & how he knows better than I, for such a length I had to interrupt to avoid the abusive tone & try to get the conversation back on track . He hung up on me. I never used a tone of upset or offended, but was inquisitive & tried to be helpful when he expressed interest in where he may find the standard keys. It's evident he just wants to profit from having his expert opinion force that a new key is made, instead of helping people have a more economical option if available. In short, he lied to try and coax me in & he was rude from the start. read more

The customer service was very rude, left me hanging. Felt like my business is not welcome at all...

I made a Yelp account just to write a review for this place! I lost my keys at work (smooth move, yes) and called Long's. They came quickly, but my car is an older truck that had a pretty worn ignition that turned out to be very difficult to work with. Tom worked on making the key at his shop long after they had closed, and had to rebuild the ignition. It now works better than it ever did, and the price was great! The shop itself is wonderful, and they are very friendly and professional. They really care about their work and pleasing the customer. Thanks for the great service! read more

Negative 40 stars. Long story short. After three days of promises, excuses and crises, Tom Appel (also of 'Keys for Cars') left me and my car on the street after yelling at me of all the favors he had done for me. He took the copy of my car key with him and then he continued to call me threatening to come back to me and my car. Now, he can break into my car easily. He knows my name, where I live and what my car looks like etc. I changed my phone number, got a house alarm system, new e-mail address and a stun gun. I am especially worried for other of his female customers. Please be careful. read more

I would not recommend working with this locksmith. The short version of a long story is that it took several phone calls to get a return call; then we finally set up an appointment; then I called asking to move up the appointment time and he agreed; then he didn't show at the time we'd agreed to; and then he was rude to me on the phone, hung up on me, and then actually called back to scold me for being rude! So, for what it's worth, I spend more than a week negotiating to pay this man to change our locks on our house and wasted a morning off work waiting around for him and he never showed. I'd look elsewhere.... read more

Simply the best service anywhere. Tom came to re-key my tricky Kawasaki Ninja after losing the keys. He spent probably 3 hours total working on getting it exactly right after the interwebz and the secret locksmith's bible had it wrong...proof positive of how skilled Tom is at his craft. read more

After a little phone tag trying to get the right parts ordered (both of us to blame), Tom from Long's showed up to rekey my girlfriend's truck after an attempted car theft had left it damaged. Tom was extremely professional, friendly, and did a great repair. You would not know anything had happened to the car. He also did the work for $100 less than his estimate. I would recommend Long's to anyone in need of a locksmith. read more

I have a safe and I lost its key. I called this place to see if they can open the safe for me, but the guy who I talked over the phone with, treated me like a burglar. He was SO RUDE, ANGRY, AND RAISED HIS VOICE ON ME. I do't know why he was talking like that. That was the first and last time that I called them. FUCK this business. You can't talk to people like way. read more

Review stands. Tom I'm willing to talk to you in person as I have in the past. As for my Knowledge as i told you before I am on the Board of 2 car clubs that preserve and restore cars. Your ratings are good even with my opinions so why worry !! Once again, Tom. I got your message on Yelp. Went down yesterday to talk things out . your not there, Left a message with your staff. Why waste each others time!!! Your ratings are fine without my comments!!! read more

A very peculiar experience. Referred by a locksmith in my neighborhood, I dialed the number they gave me and that was disconnected. I looked up the Web site for AC Lock on my phone and called the number there. Mailbox was full. I found another number, and someone answered, "hello?" He cut me off, then called me back. "You looking for a locksmith?" I told him yes, I needed a key made for my car. He said he would have his "technician" call me back right away. No call, so an hour or so later I looked up the Web site from my computer at work, and dialed a local number, reaching what sounded like the boss, or sole practitioner. He explained that he was out in the field and I should call again in the afternoon so he could look things up on the computer in the shop. "One p.m. OK?" "Better make it more like two." I called at three, and he said he was not finished in the field yet - "that's how it goes some days." I said sure; when would be good? "Maybe tomorrow." "Sure, when should I call?" "I have no idea." I then suggested that he call me when it was convenient for him. "I'm not going to do that. You enjoy your job and Merry Christmas. 'Bye." Maybe there's a reason this guy is in business. Maybe there's a reason some people don't or can't work for others. Maybe I'll look elsewhere for help. read more

Super awesome. That sums it up. I was in and out in 10 minutes, for less $ than I dreamed of spending, for an auto trunk lock issue that I had been avoiding even thinking about for months. Friendly, honest, and awesome. read more

A few months back, I had to rekey the house locks after lots of move-ins & move-outs, and I called Long's since they had provided past work affordably, quickly, and with great customer service. Cut and programmed a car key for my Lexus and gave me a dummy copy to access the car. If the service and extras weren't great enough the price was unheard of. Lexus wanted 195 to cut the key. Then they said they would charge 65 to program it. 260 dollars !!!!!!!!! I was charged 25 dollars at Long's. I shopped around too AutoLocksmith and other Berkeley competitors wanted around 100 dollars. This sort of fair pricing, honest business practice and genuine care for the customers will have me make my way back to Long's for any key needs. read more

My neighbor was locked out of her apartment at 10pm, and our landlord wasn't answering -- bummer! Long's Locksmiths quoted a flat $125 for the late-night callout. All in all, pretty reasonable. Showed up about 20 minutes later with his wife/girlfriend/ladyfriend and the most adorable small white dog (their "protection"... seriously though, I think this dog had a better chance at defeating would-be assailants with adorableness). Good to find a nice, quick locksmith who is actually NOT sketchy. Who knew they existed? read more

Tom saved me! After losing both of the transponder keys to my car, he was able to reprogram new ones using only my valet key. Tom was friendly, quick and professional. Five stars! read more

Really awesome service from the owner directly. He squeezed us in with limited notice, was professional, efficient, and when he made a minor mistake he just gave us some keys for free (totally not needed, but appreciated!). Note, his business card was AC Lock Service Inc. So maybe the name has changed? read more

Nice, friendly place. Makes keys right. I walked a mile to a hardware store and waited half an hour to get three keys made, and two of them didn't work right. What the heck was I thinking? Long's has been around for 20-odd (maybe even 30) years, and the current owner, Tom, has been locksmithing almost as long. I've done a lot of business with him, and I have to say his integrity is unparalleled. He's not out to squeeze money out of you. He is always trying to save you money and he'll always give you the advice he'd give family. Big fan. read more

Quick and shiny. Convenient location. Also, they told me if the keys didn't work to take them back and they'd make new ones. Yay. :)

Long's was so great. This was the 2nd time I called them after I got locked out :o The previous technician who came out was great and today it was the owner himself, Tom. Each time they came within 10 minutes and the job was completed in no time. Efficient and friendly service that I would definitely recommend if you are in a fix. They accept credit cards via square so the entire process was completed in a flash. Hopefully I won't need their service a 3rd time :# but it's great to know someone reliable is there to fix the situation in literally a few minutes! :) read more

Granted I've not been to this locksmith yet, but I plan to go. I spoke to Tom at Long's, and can save a lot of money by going here. I need a copy of my computer chipped car key. It costs $250 at the Mazda dealership. He will charge me around $95 for a key. A much better deal! He sounds very knowledgeable and friendly on the phone. Apparently they have a ton of equipment for copying all types of keys. Based on my initial impression of Long's Locksmiths, they get 5 stars. If I change my mind later, I'll revise this review. read more

This place was awesome and fast. I got a key made in 2 minutes, in and out before I had to even put a quarter in the meter. Late one Friday night, my car got towed and I had to pay $350 to get it back. I thought my night wouldn't get worse but when I got home, I put my key into the door and turned it as usual only to find that the lock was stuck. FML. The next morning I called my landlord, she gave me the number of a locksmith to call. I tried giving the guy a call, and he told me that he would swing by in 2-4 hours. What was I supposed to do until then? Luckily I was at a friend's house so I hopped on Yelp and found Long's. I gave them a ring and the guy said he could come within 15 minutes. AMAZING. Tom came within the time promised, and he removed the old doorknob + lock (for the exact amount of $100 which he quoted over the phone). He even gave me the new knob for free (which was supposed to be $25). Friendly guy, great service. 5 stars and no complaints. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE With the Owner......Gave him Three separate opportunities to help rectify the situation. All to no avail.... Treated rudely and CURT. No sense of perfectionism. This is for a $289 Key mind you. Went there 3 times to get this key made. Waited an hour all three times. Which is fine, I understand it is a process. They had to order the key, which is also fine. But the times (Two Total) I called to set up an appointment to pick up the key. The owner Was "EXTREMELY" Condescending and RUDE. I was as nice as I could be with him. Still He felt it was a point to try and talk down to me with as much disrespect as possible. Mike and the owners son are AWESOME!!! but that owner/manager .... Wow avoid him at ALL COST!! ... he is the one who is on the message center when you call in. No customer service skills what so ever. read more

After moving into a new house, I found that there were 7 different keys for all the entrances, of which the landlord only gave us 3. I shopped around in the area for a good locksmith and settled on Long's. I know how to change a lock so I didn't need to have a house call, but Tom was able to rekey the locks I brought him and replace 2 doorknobs that afternoon. After having trouble with one of the doorknobs, Tom offered to meet me after-hours in his shop to help me figure it out. All in all, an awesome experience. read more

The person that answers the phone is very rude I called looking for service and he would just speak over me the whole time told me if you want to speak with my voicemail or email you can but I don't have all day to sit here and talk to you as I was trying to explain what type of service I needed, i sent him an email gave him roughly 4 hrs to cool down said maybe he was really busy let me try him later I asked him if he received my email then lies saying he came looked at it and needed parts when he never once followed up to tell me he could assist me and never came his phone was cutting out let him know I couldn't hear him he then got frustrated and started talking over me I questioned if this was the way he spoke with all his customers who he FORGETS is what makes his company a company, he told me well if you don't like it look so where else "BYE BYE" RUDE. RUDE. RUDE. RUDE. People that do not know how to run their companies. i don't know if this guy is going thru some personal issues but may God bless him he seems to be such a dark angry person. MY RESPONSE TO OWNER; "Thank you for your response Tom but we both know this is inaccurate. The way I was treated was inappropriate instead of wasting your time along with MY time your company then decided to toll with us telling us someone was on their way after informing you that this was an emergency. 3rd party or whatever you were under no OBLIGATION in accepting you could've kindly declined and gone about your day but instead, you played with continuously telling us someone was on their way after waiting for several hrs you then we're very rude in which we got the hint that no one was coming. as to the tech that did the work he gladly accepted and was VERY kind and amazing I personally am thankful that you didn't accept otherwise we would've never found our amazing "Tommy's Locksmith (510) 863-8466". he was KIND, PUNCTUAL, AND AMAZING OVERALL so thank you for that.
