Late one Friday night, my car got towed and I had to pay $350 to get it back. I thought my night wouldn't get worse but when I got home, I put my key into the door and turned it as usual only to find that the lock was stuck. FML. The next morning I called my landlord, she gave me the number of a locksmith to call. I tried giving the guy a call, and he told me that he would swing by in 2-4 hours. What was I supposed to do until then? Luckily I was at a friend's house so I hopped on Yelp and found Long's. I gave them a ring and the guy said he could come within 15 minutes. AMAZING. Tom came within the time promised, and he removed the old doorknob + lock (for the exact amount of $100 which he quoted over the phone). After moving into a new house, I found that there were 7 different keys for all the entrances, of which the landlord only gave us 3. I shopped around in the area for a good locksmith and settled on Long's. I know how to change a lock so I didn't need to have a house call, but Tom was able to rekey the locks I brought him and replace 2 doorknobs that afternoon. Got into my house, fixed the front door. Also made an improvement to the back door lock that another locksmith said there was nothing that could done about. Gave me a lot of advice on options for permanent solution to the problematic old mortice lock and didn't pressure me to buy anything I didn't need. Very fair with the bill. I called Longs Locksmith when I thought I had lost my key to my apartment door on a Sunday. I called, and talked to Tom, who was immensely courteous and professional. He said he could be there in 15 minutes, and was at my apartment very promptly. He was also able to give me a flat rate quote on the phone as opposed to other locksmiths I have dealt with in the past. It turns out I had the keys all along (Stupid I know!), which I realized just as he got to my door. He declined any kind of payment even for coming out on a Sunday evening. Fifty minutes from my phone call to the locksmith driving away! Totally reasonable, especially given the fact that Dave the locksmith had to make his way through three locks, one of which is very finicky and problematic. He was very persistent, trying a few different approaches. At the end, he checked to see if the finicky lock was still working properly - it wasn't - and kept at it until it was. He even made us an extra key, and gave us some pointers on how to secure it outside the house so we don't need to call a locksmith next the time we are locked out. Thanks! I needed a 2nd key made for my Ford and I am very glad I came here. The attitude is top notch. The service fairly fast and very professional. Tom was able to give me a comfort level that very few people do in business. His technical skills, craftsmanship and integrity simply come first. My first contact with Tom at Long's was when I brought in my only existing key for my antique MG Midget. The old ignition key was some kind of hybrid and matched none of the books nor indexes available for automotive key blanks. So Tom located a key blank that could be cut down to fit the old MG. No one else could do this. I had been to three other locksmiths in the immediate area and each of them just said, "sorry". Of course about a year later when I bought a home in Berkeley I had to re-key the entire house and I called on Tom at Long's. Tom brought his staff and proceeded to attack one door at a time in this 1920 home. Some doors had to be adjusted and some doors had to be re-bored. It certainly turned out to be far more than just re-keying of each lock. Nine locks later it was all done and with a big smile. I will return to Long's for all my lock and key needs. The owner has save me BIG BUCKS from the dealership! my car lock was jammed and dealer told me it would be $140 bucks to replace a simple key cylinder.
