So I stopped by for a cup of coffee but it smelled so good when I walked in that I ordered some breakfast tacos. I was shocked by how amazingly delicious and flavorful they were! I am first impressed with this place for being a coffee shop with a unique name. I also liked the idea of them being a non-profit shop that supports the fight against human trafficking. I was became aware of 2nd Cup after a friend of mine invited me to be part of her #loverelationships event which was hosted by her organization which gave 1/2 of their proceeds towards fighting human trafficking. With all of the money we spend here and there, it feels good to plant your seed (money) in good soil ever so often. We were set up in a private area towards the back of the shop. When I entered the shop, the employees were so inviting, nice, and helpful. I also noticed how they assisted each of our guest to the appropriate area as they arrived. I had an opportunity to their wonderful coffee and a few light bites during our event. I must say, it was very good. After great service and atmosphere, I became interested in possibly paying them a visit in my spare time, so I decided to ask the young lady behind the counter their hours of operation. She gladly stated they are open 7am-10pm every day, except they close earlier (I forgot the time) on Sundays. read more

I personally think that this issue is a little hyped and the new buzz word and its not as rampant as its brought thru the media ( I know I know Im an asshole) But never the less it is a social problem even when it happens to just one human being. Great new coffee shop to walk to in the Heights. The frittatas are to die for. I personally like the Secret Squirrel with almond milk. Their drinks are very understated/not over sweet. Very friendly and you feel you are doing a service to the community by getting your coffee here. (Their proceeds go to programs to stop human trafficking). They are still new and have some growing pains (like I would prefer they had more comfortable seating instead of mostly plastic chairs and their to-go packaging is paper based and doesn't keep things warm as well) just some things that they will likely adapt to over time with suggestions. The prices are the same as say Antidote or EQ but you feel your money is being spent for a good cause. I would give all 5 stars but I think being new there is some room for improvement. read more

My favorite study spot right here. Many hours spent here studying for exams, talking with friends and drinking coffee ( of course.) Productive and welcoming environment. Staff is always awesome. My friend brought me to this shop as he really liked it and thought I would enjoy it; he was right! I've been coming for a few years now and, at one point, became a regular when I worked somewhere nearby. The staff are always friendly and I've never had any problems (except the one time they forgot to add syrup to a cold brew and espresso to my mocha but they were very busy and those were easy fixes.) I've brought a few friends to this place and always recommend to anyone who wants good coffee in a good atmosphere. I love the fact they're raising awareness for human trafficking and it's easy to see how passionate they are. A lot of business only do small contributions (mostly for attention) but A 2nd Cup cares about this horrible situation and are doing anything and everything they can so it can come to a stop. Do you ever walk into a place and just immediately not feel cool enough to be there? That was 100% me at A 2nd Cup. I walked over from my brother's house while I was visiting Houston and was excited to grab a sandwich and some tea. I immediately was attracted to the cool vibe and the fact that the proceeds go to human trafficking prevention, but was so disappointed in the food selection and tea selection. They had one kind of iced tea, which was good, but c'mon. And really only like 3 kinds of hot tea. Just felt like an oversight. Plus I had seen all these menu items on their website that just weren't there when I arrived. So I got this lame sandwich. I felt like I was a little judged for wanting to order food there and the service was not entirely friendly. I was pretty bummed because it is so well rated and I thought I'd be getting a cool experience in my brother's neighborhood. read more

Loving this place! It's so spacious and they have lots of parking and free WiFi. I like that it's not pretentious and the baristas aren't snobby like some other places. I didn't try their coffee BUT had a tea and muffin (peach pecan) which was yummy! Definitely give this place a try if you need a place to do some studying or work. I'm blown away. This coffee shop (and the people behind it) are doing great, great things, and it's a pleasure for me to write this review because more people need to know what they're doing! In a nutshell, A 2nd Cup is a coffee shop/café. They serve amazing coffee and also serve breakfast, lunch, as well as some pastries/cookies. But what is even more amazing is that it's a non-for-profit organization. All proceeds from this shop go towards fighting human sex trafficking and helping those who have left the industry ease back into normal life. So by coming here, you're helping a really great cause. Not only that, the coffee is legit, guys. Smooth finish, nice flavor (they don't burn their beans- no bitter aftertaste!) The coffee is roasted perfectly and the micro foam in the lattes is creamy and smooth. I have had the English toffee latte and the Red baron (raspberry mocha?) so far, and both were very delicious. This is the perfect coffee shop in my opinion. Wide, open space, lots and lots of seating, good lighting, and snacks if you're hungry. I've noticed some outlets here and there as well. They sell their coffee along with some mugs /other goods. This place just keeps getting better to me, because you can also get involved in this great concept (aside from drinking all the coffee). You can sign up and volunteer to be a barista (they train you), or you can volunteer to come in and work on some art projects that will help the space. A 2nd Cup is a wonderful concept and I encourage everyone to check this place out and keep coming back. Heard about this place through many friends that work with nonprofits. I knew that they work with nonprofits, however I didn't know how. They have a cool program called split-shot, which you a pay little bit more for a bag of coffee (from a local roaster) and the difference goes to the nonprofit. So that's already really cool. The coffee was good too. I had a drip and my wife had a cortado, both were really good. Awesome place, awesome staff, very helpful. 5 stars is the least to give to them. read more

I love this place! I went to 3 cafés before deciding to try a new place. This was my first "new place" option and I didn't need to go anywhere else after! The fact that this café supports human trafficking strikes me as very unique; I hear that because of this, it's a nonprofit cafe. This is also a no carry zone just to let you know. I ran into a nice lady who told me that this is a place where you can always find seating. Surge protectors are common here for different tables to share a charge. The serve brunch here and it's not even a Sunday!! I tried their Duke of York first and it's not as minty as I would like it, but it lives true to its Mocha name. It's moderately quiet so studying here is a breeze if you're okay with background noise and a bit of alternative throwback. Otherwise bring a pair of headphones and you're good. Going to be trying the Secret Squirrel next; I hear it's supposed to be a newbie's first drink! read more

How could you not give 2nd cup 5 stars??! The concept alone deserves 10 stars. The owners and volunteers who work there are so sweet and knowledgeable and I admire them so much for everything they are doing. Child trafficking is huge in this area, yet so many people don't know about it. It's one of those things I "knew" but still can't even conceptualize just how widespread it is in Houston. It's amazing how the owner took this dire need for awareness and support to community organizations and turned it into something as cool and popular as a coffee shop. I urge everyone to go here and at least buy a cup of coffee or tea to support them. I'd go even if the coffee were bad.... BUT it's absolutely not. The full coffee and espresso bar rivals all the other top ones in Houston, you ahve all your traditional espresso drinks, iced blends, seasonal lattes and flavors, coffee savvy baristas, and tea for the caffeine averse. The location right now is in a church and hopefully they find a permanent place soon, though this spacious community center filled with couches and tables is very comfortable for groups of friends getting together or taking your laptop or study materials to get some work done. read more

Worst customer service ever!!! We visited here after being displaced to the Heights because of hurricane harvey. We're living in cramped temporary quarters (though I know we're lucky to have even that!), and went out to explore our new temporary neighborhood and try to settle into a normal life again. The entire place was empty, and knowing that dogs might not be welcome, I had my 6 year old daughter hold our small dog just inside the door while I ordered at the front of the shop. The barista rudely said that our dog needed to wait outside, meaning now I needed to have my 6 year old stand outside alone with the dog. There was not a soul in the restaurant for the dog to bother, and the health inspectors are busy around Houston dealing with much bigger issues. Absolutely rude, especially in a time when it is best to be extra caring to others, not knowing their plights! read more
