This review is long overdue. I have had a great experience at A-1 with Fran. She definitely hooked us up with a great unit! She was very helpful, and she even helped me get a discount for checking in on Yelp! She gave me a tour of the facilities and made sure that I got a unit that was close to the elevator. Even though our unit was on the third floor, this was actually advantageous because of the higher ceilings. Our stuff has been stored for over a month. It was never too hot in the unit, and based on the tour that Fran gave me I know that my stuff is secure! Definitely recommend this place! read more

As a person who had to down size, I had to check prices for storage space. I also hoped the space would serve it's purpose & I would get my money's worth. It did, it does! The staff ( Fran & Lu Lu ) are very friendly and also courteous. They greet me by name and are never too busy to engage in a brief conversation. When I first leased a unit I thought it was a bit pricey. THEN I received a good sized discount that went a long way for the time I planned to keep my equipment there. After I saw the facilities I realized I was getting a lot for what it was worth. The facilities are very secure, clean, and well lit. I was pretty impress. While I was moving some equipment I was having a bit of an issue. One of the attendants, Matt, went ABOVE AND BEYOND what was required of him and assisted me in safely storing my equipment. I could not have finished with out him. I have no regrets about this location. The indoor facilities are very reassuring that my equipment will be fully protected form San Diego's harsh winters and scorching summers ;-) Jokes aside, Matt along the other staff, are the best and most reassuring part of their secure and well maintained storage units. read more

The last time I used public storage was about 30 years ago. Wow, how things have improved. My mother is moving down her from out of state, and I have been working with the reps from A-1 to give them updates on the dates her furniture would arrive, and how large of a storage we may need. Through it all, changes were made without issue and when I finally arrived at the facility today to secure the unit, and have the furniture delivered, I had absolutely no problems. The facility is in a good location, clean and staff was welcoming. In addition, security is great with gates and on-site cameras. They were very helpful with the driver of the truck to get him through the gate and back out. I would definitely recommend this facility, glad I picked this location. read more

Had a great experience with A-! in La Mesa...I guess the moving Gods were with me on this one because everything went perfectly smooth--from the time I went to investigate the facility and rent, to the time my moving crew from 3 Cubed moved my excess into the unit. Fran is the manager who helped every step of the way. She is experienced, helpful and very professional. Funny thing is as I was typing this review, the phone rang and it was Fran...calling to tell me that I had not secured the lock all the way! She pulled up the computer report and was able to determine that nobody had been in since my move-in, and it was my--operator error--mistake! How's that for service and taking care of my property? It is really easy to say that A-1 Storage in El Cajon and La Mesa is truly "A-1." While their rates are comparable to their competitors, what they really excel in is great old-fashioned customer service. Both PATRICK at the El Cajon location and ERIC at the La Mesa location do their darndest to make sure that all of your needs are addressed and actually make it happen and not just give lip service. They take pride in providing great service. While I was disappointed that neither locations are climate controlled, it was Patrick who looked into their facility in La Mesa in a more moderate climate for my storage needs. Eric is VERY conscientious with his after-rental followup making sure that the relationship is going right. Both locations are very clean and well-maintained. I wish I could give them a minus five! I had a storage room here in their basement area which appeared very clean and secure. When I went to retrieve my property, I found over half of it destroyed due to a leak in the building. When I reported it to staff they seemed understanding but when it went through corporate reporting, they accused me of somehow deliberately dragging water hoses into their basement storage facilities and damaging my own property! Imagine, dragging a water hose through a at least 2,000 sq feet underground to accomplish this, for what price? I can only hope Karma bites them all from the A-1 "corporate secretary who told me to bad so sad to the president in buttocks big time!!!! I also hope that anyone who "inherited" my storage unit does not suffer the same fate that I had. Shame, shame, shame on you... yes, I have passed this word along to plenty and will continue to do so!!! read more

Everyone has a bad day but they lost my business over it! I had received numerous phone calls and e mails from the very friendly and helpful ladies but my furniture was delayed getting here. I stopped by to update them on its arrival and was basically called a liar by the front desk receptionist telling me they had never called me. I have found many not as nice storage facilities but their staff was extremely friendly and helpful and they are getting my business. Unfortunate that one person can ruin it for many. read more

What a great experience. I have rented storage for my crafting spirit for years. When I moved here to California, I rented a house that finally gave me storage at home. Sadly and with great stress my owners of my home decided to sell the house. I am having to quickly pack and store thirty years of crafting supplies. A-1 Self Storage had a post that jumped off the page at me when I was looking for a place close to me and where I want to relocate. Super clean. Security like you need.
