Rude, rigid property manager Brandi lacks understanding and a desire to help customers (e.g. closing time, rate increases, insurance demands, replacing locks). The elevator is often broken. Customers seem to store their livelihoods in spaces and spend hours sorting through it. You have to cross the trolley tracks to enter the property along the freeway, with construction material on the street (that has led to a flat tire!). We relocated to a better maintained facility with easier access and friendlier staff (no grumpy Brandi who will never offer customer "service"). read more

I just wanted to let other people know how genuinely nice and attentive the staff is at this storage location. In every interaction I've had with any number of employees over text or over the phone or even via email the response was immediate, the info was clear and I everyone was just so nice! There were times when we were late with the rent, like down to the wire in some cases, and I still felt that everyone treated us well and helped us make our payment at the last minute like it was no big deal. The staff is also very efficient whenever I've contacted them. They're consistently super nice without going overboard where it feels cringy or fake and without talking your ear off. They just do their jobs really well and when I need to contact them I don't dread having to call and, I don't know about anybody else but, for me, thats saying a lot these days! Madeline was a very great professional. My lock was picked or cut off by another person. There was another lock on it that had to be cut off. I needed to have access to my unit. Inside my A unit, I noticed that my small SentrySafe was stolen. I am extremely disappointed that someone with access to my side of the building was able to steal from the 2nd floor. Although there are cameras everywhere, I still fear that my valuable can still be stolen without repercussions. I was provided with a new lock. Im suspicious of the employees that work there besides Madeline. It is unacceptable that I have already had items taken from my unit without a call or any communication that my units integrity has been compromised. I want this to be improved. I will NEVER auto pay now. The lack of communication is why. To end it off, Madeline kept me from going off the edge. She was amazingly helpful. read more

Jonathan was super professional and gave us amazing service . Unfortunately, one day while in the storage( a couple of months ago) the power outage went out in the whole neighborhood. I couldn't find myself down from 3rd floor (scary) . The worst part was not being able to get our car out the gate. Manager (a person that lives there) would not cut the chains for over 50 minutes because he was waiting for the OK from someone else. My husband had to call fireman to open the gate to get the car out. We have an ill person in the house that needed meds immediately, and that manager would not cut the chain on the gate until fireman came by . We were furious. read more

I would just like to say that all though I no longer have a unit here; the times that I was able to see a difference since Leah took over as management always very courteous, professional. Every time I was around she would be walking around the property cleaning, and making sure all was in place and nobody who did not belong was not on the property causing issues. read more

We've had our storage here for about 3yrs now. We've even moved storages 3 times with ease. This storage is always clean, staff friendly and helpful. There are a few problem people, like a motorhome lady with two little ankle biter dogs, that bit my husband one time. It was superficial, no blood, but if your dogs bite why are you letting it run around??? She would lift the ground covers and steal water to fill her motorhome,and use electricity to plug in. They didn't pay attention or didn't care. It was very frustrating, they finally got rid of her, she would be there all day. Her motorhome was huge 40ft at least and it was always hard to park and turn around with her in there. The gates close at 9 and if your not out the gate locks you in, you have to call the live on-site employee to let you out, the second time is $50. We only had this happen once, we left at 9:01pm an got locked in lol we had to call him. Our storage did get broke into here which is hard cause you need a code to get in the gate and buildings yhen the storages are locked but with your own lock so it could be cut. There are 3 buildings A, B, C. Someone we use to hang out with, tried to burned us on the car we helped him buy. When we sold the car he went around telling everyone our storage unit, the number and that we had expensive things and cash in there (We didn't have cash, mostly tools that cost alot.)These other two people we use to hang out with till they turned shady, they went in and got there own unit, saying we recommend them there. The next day they used there own code to get in the gate, and into our building. They picked one lock and cut the other. Our neighbor was there and took a picture and sent it to my husband, who arrived 30min after they left. The storage staff helped immediately, found them on Camara in our building walking out with our stuff. We paid for the ins so we got paid back, but not as much as they got. I was upset to find out they had 10,000 Ins for 20 a month too. We had the $5,000 ins we would of paid more for the higher one. We had about $8,000 dollars worth of MILWAKI tools, a 50CC bike, play station 4, DSLR camara and more stolen. We moved out of that storage it was to easy for them to get in our unit. Each building should only allow there tenets in. They were in B building and ours was C and they got in. If B couldn't get into C at least they would of had to wait for someone to let them in. Most people seemed to close the door and make you enter your code. They are good priced and clean otherwise... read more

Moving is a stressful time. Glad I found this place nearby a week ago. It was my 2nd Uhual experience and it's definitely better than the first one. It's not extra to use the dollie and furniture pads like the other place. I returned the truck a bit later than the returned time and Josh didn't charge me for an extra day. Great place great prices drove around town looking for a storage and found Stax up awesome service and great location

I got a storage space here when it was just Hill Street storage. The folks running the place were a little rough around the edges but they were nice and honest and it was cheap. StaxUP bought the property and promptly screwed it all up. I was given TWO weeks notice that I'd have to move by the new manager Josh. It was sudden and it was a huge pain in the ass but Josh assured me he'd help me out. First he offered me the use of a truck bc they had a deal with uhaul (that would be helpful). Then he referred me to a sister facility (awesome, thanks). He even said he could get me help moving my stuff (rad) because of the inconvenience. These things are all pretty nice gestures considering the circumstances. I went to visit the sister facility, way the hell out on the outskirts of santee. There was literally 2 buildings between the facility and blatant wilderness. Pretty sure the guy that ran the place was in some sort of brainwashing cult too... Oh and the same sized space was more than twice as much. Great. Not gonna do that, no sir. I find a different facility that is much more accessible, more affordable and frankly, nicer. So then I go back to talk to Josh at Stax, who said he'd be around but wasn't at work. So, talking to him thru his simpleton henchman (his dad?) on his cell phone,l ask him about getting the uhaul he offered so I could get my stuff out in time. I am then informed that the truck was only being offered if I moved to their sister facility. This is the first I've heard of this caveat. Sweet. The henchman (weird uncle) says (while talking to Josh and relaying what he's saying) to bring the receipt from renting my own uhaul and Josh will help out with it (make it right?). Shit. Ok, so I rent a truck get all my treasures out of the space and into my rented truck. There's a mattress in there and I don't really want it but I can take care of it bc I have the truck. Henchman #2 (ponytail) says I can "leave it there, they're demolishing the space anyway". Rad, something was just made a little easier and rational. So I take all my stuff and move it into my new, much better managed, storage space. Long day, but glad it's done. So I go back to check out and get my uhaul refund/assistance from Josh. Son of a bitch was actually there! Score! He completely renegs on all of the things that we have talked about up to this point.... Jerk. No assistance with the truck. No prorating on the rent I paid, even though I'd only been given two weeks notice. He did complain about the mattress that I'd left (on ponytail's suggestion) and seemed to want to charge me for that somehow. Don't rent here. Josh lies. He's really not a very good person. PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM....THEY OBVIOUSLY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN YOU AS A CUSTOMER..GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! If I could give a negative rating, I would..... I was a tenant for over 25 years here, formerly Hill Street Self Storage. Got more than a 50% increase in rent rate. In Nov. got an eviction note for remodel....not even 30 day notice. I was able to get out in time but in Dec. was charged again. When i called, I got Josh Jonte he explained that he realized the mistake but was waiting for it to clear before reversing the charge. You don't have to wait...you can reverse it immediately. Made me feel it was my mistake because i did not notify them when Ieft. I told him the office was closed and I had checked in on the log but the guy was off to lunch so I left voice mail (have the call record on my cell phone) He said If I had notified them, the charge would not have come through...I explained again that i did via voice mail on the 23rd at 1:20pm...had to check my cell phone call list... anyway, I told him he had more than a week so the charge should have never came through again.... I ALSO WANTED TO MAKE THE POINT THAT I DID NOT HAVE 30 DAY NOTICE TO VACATE and they should be refunding me some money maybe just $10 as a gesture...he got very rude with me because any time in the storage unit meant i paid for the full month. Well i was evicted only because of their remodelling and not given the choice of a full month so I thought as a 25+ year tenant, a good gesture would be a slight refund. THEN he began arguing with me and i got heated too. Used this storage for about 4 months. Very secure and the manager Josh was very helpful.

I was using this location when it was Hill St Storage, and continued with the new owners. Received a letter initially raising my rent from $50 to $80 a month. Calmly told them I couldn't afford a 60% increase in rent, and I'd have to move. Josh then changed it back to $50. I appreciated that, since there was no air conditioning or proper lighting in the units. Then got a letter in March about renovations, and started communicating with Josh about when I'd have to move, so they could renovate my bldg. Over many conversations, and as renovations moved along, we agreed on a price of $57 a month for a unit half the size of the one I had, and on the 3rd floor. Five days before I'm to move into it, Josh takes me to see the unit. Surprise! There's no elevator beyond the second floor!!!! There are two sets of steps with a landing between the 2nd and 3rd floor that I'd have to carry my stuff up and down! i'm almost 60 years old, had told him months before that the move would be difficult because I'd had heart surgery. He offered to help. But never mentioned the lack of elevator. So what would I do later to put other stuff in there or remove it? Lug bins up and down two flights of stairs? Josh had plenty of opportunities, as I stopped many times to get outside door key to take stuff out of my old unit to sell, rearrange what was left, etc. He never mentioned the lack of elevator. A storage facility with no elevator to the 3rd floor? Are they kidding? Don't rent here. They're deceptive and will say, or not say, anything. There is absolutely no way that he could have inadvertently not mentioned the lack of elevator access. He knew it and waited until 5 days before my move-out to tell me, He did offer me a 2nd floor unit, half the size of my old one, for $76, an over 50 rent increase! I'm moving. I just hope he'll follow thru with helping me move stuff out. Now that I'm going somewhere else, who knows? I'll repost some time after my move. I'm not upset about the pricing. They can charge what they want to. People can pay it or move. But 50-60% increases to long-time auto-pay tenants, for half the space they had? Unless you want to walk yourstuff up two flights of stairs? And keep secret the LACK OF AN ELEVATOR TO THE 3RD FLOOR until almost move-out deadline? No way to treat a long-time auto-pay customer. Again, you might think twice before renting there. Addendum: No help when I had to move. read more

People seem to only have bad things to say about this place but they obviously don't understand what great things the new owners of this location are doing. Before this place was a run down storage complex with no security what so ever, now since StaxUp has bought out the place they are making some great changes. Even just driving up the the place is better. There is no more gate with barbed wire across the top. They have a much nicer gate with a number pad so the only way to get in is with your individual code. Inside they are making renovations to all the units. and security cameras all around that the owners can watch daily. One of the buildings is fully renovated and it looks so much better than before. I helped my friend move in here and also helped when she had to move all her stuff to that unit until they finish working on the unit that she had before. The manager and assistant manager there helped us with the move and made it a lot easier than we had expected it to be. They were a lot of help!! People may be upset by the prices going up but WHAT DO YOU EXPECT! The place went from horrible to great with these new owners. Better security, nicer units/buildings = a higher rent cost. read more

Numerous payment processing issues and now Brandi refuses to respond to my emails. Here's my last complaint: Once again, there's an issue when I tried to process a payment. I know that StaxUP isn't very knowledgeable about payment and IT systems, but this is quite ridiculous. Since the last "fix", I've been changing the address associated with the credit card payment to my old US address when I've made my monthly payments. When I thought I would set up the automated payment (as per my email to you about changing account information), I changed the address of my credit card to my current Japan address. Today, I went to your website and tried to process a payment. However, the account information doesn't seem to reflect that my address is in Japan. The relevant drop down menu provides state information for Canada and the US. I know that your "system experts" aren't really IT guys and they're using plug and play systems including your payment provider, but you would have thought that they could realize that Japan has a different state list. Can you folks fix this so I can make a payment? BTW, I'm not looking for issues to complain about, but you folks seem to make it impossible to do the simplest of things, i.e. make payments. read more
