Khao Soi with Tofu
Lauren D.

Started visiting 9Thai via recommendation from a friend and raving reviews on how good the Khao Soi is. Let me tell you, we've tried it at many of the best Thai restaurants in Denver and this seems to be the best! We've never eaten in, but ordering takeout is a breeze and the food is always ready upon arrival. The staff is always friendly and the restaurant is usually medium busy. It's a cute little place on Colfax, not a ton of space to park but usually easy to grab quick street parking. The Khao Soi is fantastic - the fried chicken version is delicious and if you ask they will allow you to get a Tofu version as well. We've also tried the Pad Thai which was a bi disappointing, but the curries are where they really stand out. We drive nearly 40 minutes just for the Khao Soi! Well worth the visit.

Larb Chicken ($12.50)

The food here was okay. Not terrible, but I have had better Thai food. The drunken noodles were not great. It lacked flavor. The larb chicken was good, but I wish it was served with lettuce and not small quartered pieces of cabbage. The papaya salad had too many chunky tomatoes and not enough papaya. The bathroom was a little weird - very small and not very clean. The service was good. We were the only ones there so if we needed anything, our server was ready to attend to us.

Street Pad Thai, Chicken Satay, Crab Cheese Wonton

We love 9 Thai. Come here often for take out. The staff is so friendly. And every we've tried is so good but street pad thai is our favorite.

Drunken noodles

Stopped by to grab lunch - got drunken noodles and a Thai tea! Drunken noodles (3/5) - honestly for Denver this might be a 4/5, but comparing it to other drunken noodles I've had I would say that they taste good for what they are, but they are the incorrect flavor for drunken noodles. They're overly sweet and lack the umami and wok hei flavor for pad kee Mao. I also ordered it hot, and it was not spicy compared to Thai hot. I feel like what I got for hot is a mild or medium level spice. I got it with tofu and typically it's with the deep fried tofu, this tasted more like normal tofu pan fried. They were generous with the tofu pieces which I appreciated. Portions are good and prices are good! Noodles were a good consistency and although it was not a traditional drunken noodle flavor, the flavors were well developed. The Thai iced tea was good but could be a bit richer as it tasted watered down.

I've been here twice and really enjoyed it both times. I ordered the drunken noodles the first time and the street pad Thai the second time. The drunken noodles were good but the pad Thai was out of this world! So great I can't wait to go back. I love the ambiance and the service is quick. Definitely recommend!

Vegetable Pad Thai

I ordered to-go from this place. Even though it's on a busy street - I was able to pull up pretty close and park along the street. I walked in and also got a soda from the cooler fridge behind the counter. The place is pretty small so I imagine they mostly do takeout. I ordered the Pad Thai (just plain) and was asked about heat level. My fiancé said he told them "low." He got the Basil Fried rice with the highest heat level. The food was ready when they told us (15 minutes). They guy who helped me was very nice and talkative. He let me know I was the first customer of the day. We got a ton of food for the one dish. My fiancé really enjoyed his fried rice - he at the whole thing. My pad thai was just okay. It was a little more dry than expected and it was way more spicier than expected. I can handle spice but I don't like when it turns my mouth numb and the taste takes over everything else. The price for the two dishes also seemed high seeing as though we didn't get protein in either.

Best Thai in the area, would recommend the Tom Kha and the pad Thai. If you like spice make sure to get at least a medium.

I reviewed this place four years ago after dining here for the first time. Well, fast forward…read morenearly half a decade and it's become our favorite Thai restaurant. I have actually looked into how to make khao soi and those little corn fritters because my husband loves Aloy so much it is resulting in an expensive delivery habit. We usually share the corn fritters and fried green beans to start. The pad see ew is a favorite, and I love all of their curries. Please don't make me choose a favorite. Maybe green? I've never been unhappy with a classic pad Thai from here either. My husband gets the bison khao soi every time. He is obsessed.

Service was great, even though our server had a huge table right next to us she never let us feel unattended, food came out quick and she checked on us multiple times. As for the food, we started with the duck wontons, which were crispy and beautifully topped. The bison noodle soup was interesting, not what I would usually go for but did not disappoint! The meat didn't taste gamey and was actually super tender My absolute favorite was the mago sticky rice, just a fantastic amount of sweet, not so overpowering that you couldn't taste the individual flavors and I really appreciated that they let you pour the sweetened half and half yourself for better control on sweetness

SUCH yummy Thai food right under my nose! This place is…read morepretty big and right on the main part of Platt Street so there's lots of parking and it's very accessible. I came in with no reservation on a Thursday night and I believe we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, but it was so worth it. It's decorated very well, with an authentic clean and fancy feeling, even though it's hard to really get fancy in Denver Although they were so many things on the menu, I wanted to try, I love a good khao soy so I had to give that a shot first. It was so good and the portions are so generous. I also started with the iceberg lettuce appetizer, which was yummy like a salad and we had the mango sticky rice to finish it all off. The mango was perfectly ripe and sweet and in season, this is one of my favorite desserts, and I was so lucky to get it at this time of year

For as expensive as everything is, you'd think they would have the money to hire actual photographers or graphic designers for their promotional material but unfortunately they've also gone the AI slop route, which, to be honest, matches the overall experience as well. Soulless and lacking flavor.

Overall, the experience was fine. Not bad, not memorable. Fine. The highlights were the La Zi Ji (the spicy fried chicken) and the smashed cucumber salad. The chicken was the best thing we ordered. The cucumber salad is delicious, but be warned: it's quite spicy. Don't let the word "cucumber" fool you. The Beijing dumplings had a strong, assertive flavor. I'm still not sure I loved it. My wife got the Chinese borscht stew and her verdict was "it's ok," which was about the level of enthusiasm the whole table settled into. Then there was the char siu. This is supposedly the signature dish. It's been on the menu since the food truck days, and plenty of reviewers call it the best thing here. Mine was dry and badly overcooked. I ate two pieces, gave up halfway through the third, and sent it back. Good char siu should be juicy with a sticky, caramelized edge. This was closer to pork jerky with sauce on it. Given how many people rave about it, I'm willing to believe I caught an off night. But at $25 a plate, the signature dish shouldn't have off nights. One more thing. Hidden at the very bottom of the menu is a 6% "support fee" added to everything, along with a note that it's "not a tip." I can't stand this. If your costs went up, raise your menu prices so people walk in with both eyes open. The owner has framed this fee as a way to keep menu prices approachable. That's the problem. The prices only look approachable because 6% of them is hiding at the bottom of the page. This could have been a solid 4 star meal. The chicken and the cucumber salad prove the kitchen can cook. I may come back to give the char siu another shot, but for now Ginger Pig sits pretty low on my list.

The chicken fried rice was a clear win at an 8.5/10. The pad see ew was also really good and probably my favorite. The pad thai arrived a shade of orange previously unknown to science, but against all odds, it was actually pretty good. 7/10. The drunken noodles were okay, although the noodles felt a little undercooked to me. Crab rangoons were a respectable 6/10. The egg rolls arrived cold and extremely oily. They tasted good, but spiritually they had been through something. Portions were VERY generous for the price, so no complaints there. The restaurant was cute and they had the Zara Larsson dolphin artwork, which I personally consider an important cultural contribution. It was also incredibly loud inside. Not music loud, just the collective power of approximately 50 people all having something important to say at once. Service started off impressively fast. Getting the check, however, became a long-term goal. At some point I accepted that I lived there now. Parking on a Friday night was an act of psychological warfare, but I did choose to go out on a Friday, so I have nobody to blame but myself and perhaps urban planning. Overall, good food, huge portions, and a few standouts, but nothing life-changing. Glad I tried it. Would I come back? Maybe. Would I battle Friday night parking to do it? The investigation remains ongoing.
