Replacement My favorite Chinese restaurant recently closed. My stomach has been in disarray, searching for a tasty replacement. I found it!! Moon River Asian Bistro has great food. I am a fan for sure. The restaurant is very much on the small side, so takeout is optimal.

Spicy edamame. Do you taste a campfire??

I have to admit, for a couple years I wasn't a fan of Moon River. I ordered again a couple months ago and haven't stopped. I am the biggest fan of their spicy Edamame beans. Whenever someone comes over I order them to spread the word. They have an aftertaste of chicken cooked over a campfire but I only see oil and peppers in the bottom of the container. No fat! It's a mystery! I also ordered the Kung Pao special and loved it so much!

    Chicken Fried Rice

Chicken Fried Rice Haven't had anything bad here. Was cautious bc of recent bad reviews. Still good though!

The Pho soup was just what I needed. The ingredients were fresh and service was quick. No real ambiance to speak of its pick up only.

Rude ordering experience. Also, they list brown rice on their online menu, but they don't have any. Very odd.

Does the service make things easy? Do you suddenly regret needing the restroom halfway through the conversation? That's where Karma gets complicated. It's right on Broadway, in the middle of everything, and it clearly has a loyal following. The room is dark, funky, and full of objects, screens, carved wood, fish tanks, statues, gongs, and a general kitschy style. There is a version of that I usually like. Older restaurants can have character. A little weirdness can be charming. But dated and cared for is one thing. Dated and not especially clean is another. The service was genuinely friendly, and that deserves credit. Everything came out quickly and hot, which is always a big plus. The food itself was fine. The edamame was predictable and perfectly acceptable. The gyoza were not especially exciting and were rather bland, though apparently not bland enough to stop me from eating more than my share because, well, carbs. The pad Thai with tofu was decent, a little sweet, and a curious color. Not offensive. Not memorable. The bigger issue was the condition of the space. Some of the photos show it better than I can describe it. The vents were giving off some serious ick, and a few areas felt like they had not been updated, cleaned, or loved in a while. I do not need every restaurant to be shiny and new. I usually prefer places with a little history. But cleanliness matters. A lot. And then there are the bathrooms. To get there, you pass through a doorway with beads, which feels like it should lead you towards your destination. Instead, you enter what may or may not be a storage closet, and it is quite dark, there are chairs stacked everywhere, and suddenly you are on a questionable journey. You zig. You zag. Eventually, you find the toilet area, and the sink is shared outside the two bathrooms, which adds another little layer of "what is happening here?" It was not quite portable-toilet-in-a-Denver-public-park bad, but it was close enough that I thought about the comparison, and that is not where you want your mind to go. So yes, Karma has personality. Yes, the staff was kind. Yes, the food arrived hot and fast. And yes, plenty of people clearly love this place. For me, though, cleanliness is a big deal. A restaurant can be dated and still feel taken care of. Sadly, that was not my first impression here. Friendly service helped. The food was okay. But the overall condition of the physical space made it hard for me to imagine coming back. As for the first date? Stay tuned...

The guava and fruity flavor was a nice hint. 3. Sushi Sample: completely forgot to ask without wasabi and the chef was extremely heavy handed, but it was still fresh. 4. Wagyu Sando: absolutely delish, and the blackberry sauce was super complimentary. 5. Honey Miso Eggplant: loved the flavor and reminded me of a sweet mushy cucumber almost Regular Menu; 1. The standout for me was the taro fries. I absolutely loved them. They were crispy, flavorful, and something I'd order again. They were also surprisingly good as leftovers the next day, which isn't something you can say about most fries. If you're getting takeout and won't be eating right away, these still hold up really well. I grew up in California and I've been to Japan so I know good Sushi. Unfortunately this place isn't it. We started off with Gyoza and Croquettes. They were both OK. I had a cocktail with Empress Gin, Creme de Violette, Blue Matcha and Agave. The drink was creative and tasty. After that I had their spicy, crunchy roll with tuna along with a Tempura Bento with Shrimp. The Bento came with soup or salad. I went with the salad which was supposed to have Ginger dressing. However the dressing was a deep orange color and really tasted weird. I had the wife taste it and she also thought it was weird. The Tempura was decent but nothing special. All of the dishes we had were served on modern plates to give the dishes a modern flair. Our server was very friendly and attentive and the food was decent enough. So why the 2 star review? Well a couple of hours later my stomach felt upset and I ended up on the toilet the rest of the night. As this was my only meal of the day since breakfast, I'm pretty sure that Go Fish gave me food poisoning. Had this not happened I would have given this place 3 or maybe even 4 stars. I'm not sure what did it as the wife had some of the same roll I did and didn't get sick. I'm thinking it was that weird tasting salad dressing.
