I've now been to MAKfam Meta Asian Kitchen twice, and I can officially say this place has moved from "really enjoyed it" to "I should probably stop pretending I won't be back again soon." Let's start with the jianbing. It's built on a scallion pancake base, which is a bit thicker than the more traditional version I'm used to, but honestly, I'm not mad about it. It's sturdy, flavorful, and generously loaded with steak. This is not a dainty, whisper-thin breakfast crepe. This is a confident, well-fed jianbing that wants you to be happy and full. The pork belly deserves its own moment. Actually, maybe a standing ovation. It's incredibly tender, deeply flavorful, and clearly treated with care. I had it in the spicy noodles and again in a bao bun, and both times it was excellent. Rich without being heavy, indulgent without tipping into too much. Pork belly doing exactly what pork belly is supposed to do. Now let's talk about the mala wings. These wings are spectacular. Like, "what every chicken wing dreams of becoming when it grows up" spectacular. Crispy, bold, numbing in all the right ways, and dangerously addictive. If you order one thing here, make it these. If you don't order these, I gently question your life choices. I also really appreciate MAKfam's unapologetic embrace of MSG. No fear, no fuss, just smart, thoughtful use of an ingredient that exists to make food delicious. And guess what? It works. Everything is savory, balanced, and satisfying without feeling overdone. Bottom line: this is a genuinely fun place to eat. The food has personality, confidence, and heart. Unfortunately not the the best experience. While the atmosphere was unique and one dish was amazing, the rest of my experience at Makfam was subpar. Told 35-40 min wait to start the night and ended up waiting for slightly over an hour. This led to some subpar dishes ordered such as the Boa buns with stewed pork & spicy noodles that weren't spicy. The highlights were the scallion pancakes (small portion despite paying typical price) and the wings which were 5 out of 5 with big flavor & came ripping hot. Don't understand the hype on this place at all. The line got to 29 parties and the food is fine at best (besides the wings). Personally would not come back but the wings saved the night so GET THEM read more

Not sure what all the hypes are. We waited for the doors to open so we didn't have to wait for people to leave. This was the day after Valentine's. They were out of most of the drinks we wanted to try and some featured eats, too. Didn't think I'd like the Gua Bao as much since it is shredded pork, whereas the authentic kind is either one big piece of pork belly or at most, diced pork belly. But hey the shredded worked! I guess the meats are more evenly soaking up the sauce which makes for a moist bun! Jian Bing is my second favorite. It actually had more flavor than what I had at the Queens China Town. Well done! Stuff like Ma La mozzarella cheese sticks and Spicy Tofu salad made me feel like: why bother. Dessert was probably the most surprising and pleasant: Black sesame banana pudding! Loved the mala wings and the spicy soup dumplings with the shrimp and chicken filling for the appetizers. The soup broth was sooooo comforting! The mala wings were crispy, crunchy, spicy goodness. For the mains, tried the chicken curry, which was pretty decent. Added a bit of hot chili sauce for the heat and it hit the spot. The spicy noodles were good too but I didn't love the chicken in it, felt a bit chewy. All in all my husband and I were stuff, it was delicious! Drinks were ok. We didn't love our cocktails, but they were standard. Service was great. Our server was really helpful in making recommendations and trying to accommodate dietary restrictions/substitutions. Food came out pretty quickly. Our table was a little cramped and there was barely any space to put the food. Felt a bit rushed to eat, wish we had more space. The service was fast, the prices were reasonable, and the whole place had a fun, energetic feel with hip hop music playing. Went to MAKfam with friends for a birthday dinner on a Sunday night. Surprisingly short wait time for a busy spot without a *ton* of table seating. They do have quite a few high top spots and the food came out fast. This space has a really cool vibe. It's bright, colorful, well decorated, and they were playing old hip-hop. I would definitely hangout here more. Now for appetizers - chinatown dumplings were great. rangoons and scallion pancakes were fine, simple. i personally didn't love the fancy wun tun tongs as they are a shrimp / chicken blend and it felt overpowering, but that is truly a personal preference. the sauce they are in is phenomenal though! i'll be dreaming of the mala mozz sticks forever. perfectly spiced. yum. now for the noods - i went with the tofu sizzling spicy noodles. the tofu was cooked fabulously and the dish had so much flavor. i love the texture of their noodles! the heat to this dish is an art. i added a lil extra chili oil too. highly recommend. pricing felt pretty standard. the menu is on the smaller side and pretty specific flavor profiles. overall it was an enjoyable meal and I'd be happy to return at some point. read more

FINALLY making it to MAKfam!! This place has been on our must do list ever since they earned their bib gourmand status from Michelin. Bite after bite we were blown away by the flavor of everything and we really enjoyed all of the food...except for one dish unfortunately. They stagger when they bring the food so we weren't feeling pressured to eat quickly before things would get cold. Dish after dish was amazing, until the last one. The chicken sandwich they have on the happy hour menu fell way short of expectations and did not come anywhere close to how delightful everything else was. My boys love chicken sandwiches and they both took one bite and didn't want any more even though they were still hungry. So while we can highly recommend everything else we got, we would recommend steering clear of the sandwich. It's a great place with a really cool vibe. The decorations were fun and the staff was friendly and attentive. Be aware they get really busy and I think restaurant capacity was just under 60 people, so be prepared to wait. It's worth it tho! I came to try their dumplings for the Denver Post Dumpling Challenge that started last week. This is my 3rd visit, the previous being in Feb 2025. They offer 2 dumpling dishes, a Chinatown with chicken & chives and the Fancy Wun Tun Tong chicken & shrimp. It came in a bowl with a spoon to pour the XO sauce over the dumplings and to slurp the broth. Nice. I added the Hong Kong Milk Tea. It was unsweetened and smooth. Next was an order of 5 Maia Wings with Coconut Cold Brew Coffee. The Maia Wings is what I have gotten before. Very spicy with the Maia seasoning served with a Thai Basil Ranch dipping sauce. The Hong Kong Milk Tea was better than the Cold Brew. A nice lunch. The men & womens restrooms are accessed thru a shared building hallway with a distinct access code. This is such a cute, cozy spot right off of Broadway. Plenty of street parking and easy to get to. We came for happy hour, which is a great menu to sample a lot of different things. I really enjoyed this spot and would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting! Parking is street parking, as to be expected for the city. When you walk in, you're welcomed by fun R&B throwbacks playing loud, but it didn't bother me at all as I could still hear my boyfriend the whole time. The staff was super friendly and our food came out incredibly fast..within about five minutes. My boyfriend and I shared these dishes and left totally full. Here's what we ordered, ranked from best to least Beef Stir Fry Noodles 5/5 Hands-down the winner. They look boring on the picture I posted but trust me they're more than meets the eye. These were so addicting with their bright yet rich flavor with the perfect hit of MSG. The star of the show was the noodles themselves which were just so satisfying to chew through. I'm officially an egg noodle fan now. The beef could have been a bit more tender, but overall still a solid 5/5. Shredded Pork Belly Bao 3.5/5 The bun was incredibly fluffy and the flavors were on point. My only complaint is the pork wasn't actually shredded it came cubed/ chopped which messed with the texture of the dish overall which threw me off. Still tasty overall. Chinatown Dumplings 3/5 Great size and texture, but the flavor of the dumplings was just okay which is fine cause the sauce is supposed to help with that.. but the dipping sauce is literally straight soy sauce. I was hoping for something sweeter or more layered like other dumpling spots. Scallion Pancakes 2/5 This one missed the mark for me. Hot, thin, crispy, and pretty bland with only a few bits of scallion in each slice. Again, the same plain soy sauce on the side. If the sauce had more going on, maybe it'd be worth the carbs, but I'd skip this dish next time. Very much a nothing burger. This was my first time having this dish and probably my last! After reading many great reviews for MAKfam (not to mention they are found on the Michelin guide), we headed over for lunch. Serving a Chinese-American style-cuisine, this meal hit in every way possible. They serve their dishes family-style, which is always my favorite because you can try more variety than you would if you ordered a dish on your own. Loved their scallion pancake - perfect amount of salt to compliment the dish. It's served like a quesadilla - cut up in triangles and fanned out. It's a bit smaller than I would've expected, but a good little shareable for the table. Chinatown Dumplings were my favorite. Crisp on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside. Delish. We also got the Sizzling Spicy Noodles - I am not a fan of spice, but those at the table that were absolutely loved this dish. Great drink options. Really enjoyed their Little Tiger Drink. The Fortune Teller and Mau Tai were also unique, tasty options. It's not the typical table service here. They'll seat you, but then you order at the counter and they'll bring the food out. As someone who lives in a city full of Asian food I probably am more critical when it comes to judging Asian food. However, it received bib gourmand recognition so naturally I was quite curious about it. We were also craving Asian food after a few days in the mountains. We shared quite a few items including the mala wings, sizzling noodles, baos, jian bing. The wings were too salty and the breading was very heavy. The noodles also pretty much only had a mala/sichuan flavor. The jian bing and baos were also just average. I came to MAKfam with my fellow Yelpie friend Eujenia ! This is one of her go to's and I was so excited to try it with her. The people working here were very friendly and helpful and we decided to sit at the bar together. Neither of us were feeling cocktails so we went with one of their delicious NA Mocktails instead! Ginger Blossom Fizz ... highly recommend ! That was such a treat and my favorite thing I had here. Together we ordered Stir Fried Market Greens , fancy wun tun tong, pork and chicken boa buns, crab and cheese won tons. Eujenia loved her go to's the greens and wun tun tong and I just happened to pick a couple things that I wanted to try that were just not the right flavors for me... but I could see other people loving. Delicious. They did say the serving were family size, but if you're a hungry boy like me, they're just the perfect amount of a single meal. The Sizzling Spicy Noodles were great. Wonderfully aromatic with some of the most juicy and tender pork belly. It was not as spicy as I expected it to be, but it did have a nice heat to it. So if your spice tolerance is low then this might be tolerable for you. You can pay for extra chili sauce on the side - if you like some kick like me, then I highly recommend this. As someone who was visiting Denver, this place is MUST in my books. I absolutely loved and think about it everyday! A fan favorite ofc bc this place was packed with a waitlist. They do have a waitlist online that you can join so no worries bc waiting is optional. The space is super cute and the vibes are immaculate. The music was fun and we overall had a great time. You order at the front so no waiting for someone to come get your order and the food arrives fairly quickly. We waited for about 50 minutes but it was well worth it. The bao buns were the best I've ever had! We got all three (pork, mushroom, chicken, in that order of deliciousness). The dumplings were super good too. I thought the chicken wings and the stir fry noodles were just okay. We sat at the bar and while the bartenders were nice, they did not engage with us much. Finally got around to trying this place with the family. The fancy wun tun tong dumplings were a hit with everyone. The broth was fabulous. We soaked up every last drop with the scallion pancakes. I highly recommend that combo so you can enjoy the broth with something other than a spoon. The corned beef fried rice is also the kind of magic that I would come up with in my own kitchen. And I personally think that's a compliment. That was my favorite dish. The beef stir fry noodles were very mid compared to the other dishes. They were dry and fairly tasteless. How Makfam does not have five stars is a mystery to me. This food was absolutely worth the hype, even as a gluten free vegetarian- which is really saying a lot. Typically I do not love a glass noodle, as they can be texturally dry but let me tell you- These glass noodles were PHENOMENAL. Drown me in this dish! It had a toasted sesame flavor and the noodles were perfectly chewy, saucy, and packed with flavor. I would get this every day and not get tired of it. Then there is the mala tofu that was fried to a pipping hot crisp that had the meat eaters stealing pieces! The mala wings and mozzarella sticks are not to be missed either! The only two dishes that I would skip to make room for others would the scallion pancakes- that ran a little dense and not as flaky as I prefer to see- and the greens. They do rotate seasonally how we they just didn't land with our table like we had hoped. Overall the mocktails, food labeling, food options, and thoughtfulness behind each dish is noticed and 100% worth the visit. The menu has small and large bites to choose from. I chose the Bao bun with braised pork belly. Melt in my mouth good. The Fancy Wun Tun Tong dumplings in a rich chicken broth was exceptional. I sat at the bar, and the service was friendly and efficient. Inside has comfortable seating and is nicely appointed with Chinese signs. The bar appeared to be well stocked with lots of Chinese liquors, beers and other spirits. everything reasonably priced. Street parking. I ate at MAKfam twice in less than 16 hours - yes MAKfam's food is that crave worthy. And the service was friendly, relaxed and professional too! Denver needed a Chinese-ish restaurant which delivers excellent renditions of familiar favorites like Crab & Cheese Wontons, Fried Rice (Corned Beef!), Beef Stir Fried Noodles, and an assortment of dumplings and wontons. If you eat at MAKfam and complain that the food is not authentic and not what you had in Hong Kong or Taiwan, then you would be missing the point - MAKfam is only trying to be their version of family Chinese cooking. I suggest you sit down, stuff another carb down your gullet and enjoy the hospitality and yumminess. My favorite item on the menu is the Fancy Wun Tun Tong - these are chicken dumplings swimming in the most slurp worthy ginger broth with complex flavors. So freaking good that I'd order this on a 90-degree day. I was pleasantly surprised that the Scallion Pancake was not greasy and managed to keep the crispiness, however the flavors were subdued for my taste preferences. The aforementioned Beef Noodles are familiar and comforting and benefit from a drizzle of the house made Chili Oil for some added heat. If you're like me I always order the greens at Chinese restaurants, mostly to kid myself into thinking that this will balance out the weeks' worth of carbs that I have also ordered. You should also order them at MAKfam - they're redolent with a delicious garlicky sauce that is addictive. OK...you get the idea; there's a lot to love here and I can't wait to continue to eat my way through the menu. A couple of notes: The service at MAKfam is friendly, accommodating, and genuine. If you sit at the bar, you get full service (yes please!), but if you sit at a table you will need to go up to the register and order. Don't worry, all is handled efficiently, and your food will likely come out much faster than you expected. Also be aware that there are NO RESERVATIONS for dinner service as of this writing so be prepared to wait. This place is tiny and jammed and there is a lot of energy between the high-octane music and all the slurping. Please stop complaining about food prices and portion sizes - ugh - have you seen the price of eggs lately? And finally, there is only street parking in this very congested part of Denver. I made three loops around the neighborhood and restaurant before we found a spot. If you are a valet kind of person, maybe you need to check your expectations. Don't let any of the information above deter you from trying MAKFam - the food is wonderful and the team working here must love their jobs. Small menu. This first sign that this place doesn't mess around. They are very focused on perfecting each dish. We had the chicken wings. These were fricken delicious. It came with a Thai basil ranch sauce to dip in. I did not find the sauce very pleasing so I avoided it, but I didn't think the chicken needed it. We also ordered the spicy chicken Bao bun. This was good, but I've had better. Perfectly cooking with a crunch on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. My son ordered the beef and dish with rice. It was a nice size portion and very flavorful and fragrant. I ordered the spicy noodles with chicken. Very nice red chili flavor that was hot but not too hot. The flavor was excellent and the noodles tasted very fresh. They could've been more chicken, but it was a decent serving. I would definitely give this place a try. Read the menu first because there may not be something for everyone, but if you find something on the menu that sounds good to you, rest assured that it will meet your expectations or better. read more

A cute little joint serving up Chinese fusion dishes! It's a nice spot for a quick lunch if you work in the area or are exploring Broadway. How to order is they sit you down at your table, you get up to order at the desk, and sit back down and they'll deliver your food. They are incredibly fast! The food was cooked well and hot when served. Dishes are individualized but you could share (depending on how hungry you are). What we ordered: Crab and Cheese Rangoons - A little too wet for my preference and it was mostly cheese, no crab. I liked the sauce - it was different, a bit sweet! Little Tiger Drink - Refreshing citrus drink. (You have to give your ID to get the cup) Bao buns - pick 3 - Pork Belly (not as succulent, a bit dry if not for the sauce on top), Spicy chicken (not spicy but the tastiest), and Shiitake mushroom (just okay). Glass noodles - (I didn't try this so I can't comment) Mala Fries - crispy and a lot! Loved the Mala seasoning and the spice! Overall, it's not bad! I went in again today. This time I sat at the bar. I truly recommend if you are by yourself sitting at the bar. You get recommendations from the bartenders. You may run into the owners. And you get a little more information about what's going down around town.... Specifically in the kitchen. So I had the curry chicken with coconut milk and it was a yellow curry with steamed rice. It was typical fabulous comfort food. It was executed well with carrots and potatoes and moist chunks of chicken and it was creamy and delightful. They served it with mild chili oil on the side. I highly recommend the chilly oil to add a depth of heat. I also got the scallion pancake pancakes. And when you load the curry and rice on the scallion pancake, it is absolutely divine. The only problem is this dish is going away. So if you want some of this curry, you better make your way down there before June when they change the menu. They're gonna keep some of their staples like the chicken wings and they're famous noodle dishes. But stuff that they associate with the heavier flavors of winter, they rotate out for some lighter dishes for summer. But this Chef absolutely knows what he's doing and the culinary excellence of the team behind him supports this restaurant and its vision and culinary flare. So you know they're gonna be hitting that menu with something phenomenal. And I had the Hong Kong tea for the first time. You must try the Hong Kong tea. I've been trying to go to MAKfam for months but always manage to go when they are closed - this weekend I finally showed up at the right time for lunch! Not only did I leave perfectly full, it was a great air conditioned respite from the heat. We also really enjoyed looking at their wallpaper which had what I'd call tasteful animal/marine plant mutants all over it. MAKfam does family-style plates so my brother and I ordered 3 small bites and one large plate which was the exact amount of food we were hoping for . Prior to eating I ordered the coconut cold brew which was topped with cinnamon and brought me back to life. Then the small plates arrived : - stir fried greens : I didn't expect to be so excited about these but they had awesome garlicky flavor and the crunchies on top made the experience of every bite great - Chinatown dumplings : these were doughy potstickers goodness. I love a good potsticker and these were high quality. Next time I'd order 2 rounds - mushroom Bao - easily the fluffiest bao I've ever eaten and the addition of radish and avocado ranch (I think it was?) were delicious. My brother, who usually won't touch anything with mayo, enjoyed these which is high praise Then the big plate : - sizzling spicy noodles with chicken : came in a bowl and we're perfect for two people to split. I'm pretty wimpy when it comes to spice and could definitely handle these. They have a kick but well worth it to have a moment of chugging water if needed to give these a taste Hoping to return back to MAK fam for a meal on my own to explore more dishes. I loved the overall vibe - calm, organized and welcoming - but it's a pretty small space so I wouldn't come here with the group bigger than four or five probably. MAKfam was packed with customers for late lunch on a recent Sunday. The Hong Kong style tomato, egg & beef was very tasty and authentic. The sizzling spicy noodles was certainly a must try for spicy food lovers, as it was indeed very spicy. It was a customer favorite with special mala sauce. The noodles were chewy and bouncy. Out of the three different bao buns, the marinated shitake was the favorite, followed by shredded pork and spicy chicken, but all were worth trying and would not disappoint. read more

As an Asian sometimes you just can't help questioning the authenticity of a restaurant the moment you step inside to see a full staff lineup of non-Asians behind the counter and inside the kitchen. But then I catch sight of my favorite Vita Lemon Tea in the fridge, and a tiny spark of hope is reignited. And after a brief friendly convo with the cashier where I learned the owner of the restaurant also grew up in Hong Kong, and seeing the many pictures of 80's and 90's HK celebrities all over the restaurant, that tiny spark turned into a gentle ember. The scallion pancakes came out super thin and crispy, and a very potent onion flavor. Probably some of the best I've tried anywhere all these years living in the US. The Pork Belly Bao had that same hoisin sauce taste used in the Peking Duck dish. As for the Beef Glass Noodle and Beef Stir Fry Noodle, the Wok Hei was very distinct. Something a typical Chinese American restaurant is never able to replicate. I did deduct a star because despite the authentic flavors of both the noodle dishes, they were way too salty. Makfam is a fun little casual asian restaurant offering a decent section of food and drinks for its size. The restaurant itself is quite small and the service model is not great (order at the host stand, tip and go seat yourself) but other than that i think everything was delicious, decently priced and the staff seemed knowledgeable about the product they served. I'm not sure if this would be a "go to" spot of mine but if you haven't been here yet it's definitely worth a visit. read more

Food was absolutely delicious, truly one of the best meals I had in Denver. All of the people working there were amazing. Our server was so sweet, gave us suggestions of places to check out while we were visiting and was so attentive. The chef gave us a whole new scallion pancake because he noticed the first one we received was too dark and wasn't up to his standard. Really appreciated his attention to detail and his dedication to quality/consistency. We didn't even have a problem with the first one, we thought it was delicious! The inside of the restaurant was super cute, lots of kitschy decorations. LOVE that this is a pro-MSG restaurant. What we ordered: Chinatown potstickers - filling was delicious but the wrapper was a little too thick Mala mozz sticks - sucha fun and yummy twist on mozzarella sticks. The Thai basil ranch was insane Beef stir fry noodles - everyone's fav dish we ordered. Absolutely delicious, super savory, beef was tender, and noodles were perf Sizzling spicy noodles - sour in a way I wasn't expecting, loved the noodle texture, chicken was tender, decently spicy. Mala noodle was my favorite dish, the noodle was thick and was chewy. I would definitely eat it again. My only issue is that we asked for pork belly, but was served with braised/pulled pork. I just wish the menu would change the wording to shredded pork or something along those lines because I thought I was going to be served a thick slice of pork belly. The belly was served first, so it made the Mala fried chicken a little bit underwhelming as it did not have that much Mala flavoring.
