Simply amazing food & drinks !!! My favorite restaurant of the year hands down !! We tried several cocktails , wine & Omakase sampling for dinner options . Everything was so flavorful & mouthwatering ! The sushi & steak melted in your mouth. The Gardener was our favorite cocktail overall !! Shaved ice was our favorite dessert! Staff is very knowledgeable & prompt ! We also spoke with the Sommelier about wine choice ! Amazing dining experience for sure !!! This restaurant is top tier in every detail ! read more

I'm familiar with the Nobu chain of restaurants and understood that this would be similar. We were a party of four that were celebrating a birthday. We ordered Omakase style. Some of courses were delicious and some were mediocre. We spent almost $700 for a party of four. The situation that needs the most improvement was the pace of the meal. The courses were separated by a 20-30-minute wait time. Considering that the courses were very small and contained 5-6 pieces for a party of four... that equates to a little more than a small bite every 20-30 minutes. The dinner took 2.5 hours to develop, and we were honestly still hungry by the end. The waiter started asking us if were "still hungry" at about the fifth courses. By the end, we felt awkward in asking for more. The wagyu beef was particularly disappointing as the beef was somewhat chewy, lacking taste and small. Waiters seemed to be near their capacity of workload. Didn't really take the time to serve, walk you thru the menus, keep the service moving or even gauge your level of satisfaction. We ordered dessert to celebrate the birthday. Apart from a small chocolate plaque on the dessert that said, "happy birthday", there was no attempt to celebrate the occasion as other less exclusive restaurants do... no "happy birthday" wish, no courtesy dessert... nothing special. The best part of this meal was by far, the young couple that accompanied us. Friendly advice: if you want to impress a client with something the feels exclusive... this may be the place. If you are looking for amazing food, being pampered and feeling your money was "well spent", try another place. I don't plan to visit this restaurant soon. read more

Ordered: Yellowtail Jalapeño (~$29) Rock Shrimp Tempura (~$27): with butter ponzu & creamy spicy sauces Black Cod With Miso (~$39): 6oz cod in sweet miso Aya's take: I'm a big fan of Chef Nobu and was excited but also surprised to learn that there are 3 Matsuhisa locations here in Colorado! Considering the only other US location is in California, I was surprised and knew this would be my opportunity to try it! The aesthetic is modern & elevated with Japanese wooden features. I got 3 classic dishes which was just the right amount of food. I honestly recommend coming with a group to try more items since you know everything will be delicious. The Yellowtail Jalapeño is a signature dish; the yellowtail was delicate & buttery and the citrus soy with the bight of jalapeño made each bite clean, bright, with some subtle heat. I did not expect the Rock Shrimp Tempura to be that good! The shrimp was lightly battered & fried but the sauces were the highlights! Their creamy spicy is a very well-done spicy mayo but the butter ponzu was unreal! Super addictive, rich, and unlike any sauce I've had before. Shout out to my waitress for suggesting getting both sauces on the side rather than lathered on the shrimp, which also kept it crispy. Last but certainly not least is the famous Black Cod! The fish is super buttery and flaky; there were some caramelized edges from the miso glaze which added so much depth & richness to the bite. It's a good balance of sweetness, savoriness, umami that is bound to be good. All in all, so grateful I got to try what many call an institution and will certainly try more of chef Nobu's restaurants. read more

Ok this place was fantastic! Have a meeting to come here for a year, but never had the opportunity until a recent birthday dinner! The only thing that could be tricky for someone that doesn't do their research before is all of the most amazing dishes are on a if you know menu. But if you do know, get one of everything! read more

Matsuhisa is a sister restaurant to the Nobu chain and has a lot of really similar items. We started with the yellowtail jalapeño which is by far my favorite and it tasted exactly like Nobu's- fantastic! We got a tasting plate of a variety of nigiri. Favorites were the salmon and yellowtail. We also got cooked salmon which had a fantastic miso sauce to it. The service was okay! The ambiance is really cute for a date night or a girls night if you want a cocktail and something to nosh on. read more

Made a same-day reservation and came in to finally try last month. I honestly didn't know the atmosphere, so I dressed casually and the two of us just sampled what sounded best. We really enjoyed some courses, but there's certainly better cuts of fish and sushi presentation. I did really appreciate the ambiance and design, though, and perhaps I'll compare to a nobu location when there's one in my area. I'm not going to comment on price, since it's to be expected from this network of restaurants. read more

Absolutely incredible! I had no expectations going in because a friend recommended going last minute. It exceeded all expectations! So accommodating for gluten free food! The sushi rolls were amazing. The cocktail was unique and yummy! The rice pudding was delicious and cherry on top to end the meal on. The place is cozy and comfortable and high class! I can't wait to come back again! read more

First time here, the sushi is phenomenal. I think I may have found the best sushi joint in denver. Everything was seasoned where it made sense from condiments, yes condiments to entree course. For example like soy sauce on the side. Not every piece of sushi needs soy sauce and particularly the type of soy sauce (low sodium, regular, etc..)z We got a variety type of course from cooked to nigiri. Because we wanted to try out the ranges. I highly recommend the dry miso sea bass for a cooked meal. And any sashimi/nigiri is good. Its a pricey restaurant as expected. So I'd recommend not getting the basic salmon as your go to sushi. Try something else as the price is already expensive either way. Came without a reservation and was able to sat at the sushi bar without waiting. So there are service for any type of occasion. For the amount of people there on Saturday. It didnt feel very loud at all. Any how. Come try it out! read more

Had a lot of great food in Denver but a lot was super heavy and not what I normally eat. We came here for dinner our last night and what a way to end the weekend!! All of the fish is super fresh and delicate. My favorite dish was definitely the toro tartare with caviar. Insane flavor! The lamb chops were amazing and the sushi and sashimi were fantastic. The steak was also really tender. The service was perfect, so attentive and helpful. The restaurant was also beautiful. Loved our experience- highly recommended. It is a bit pricey but the quality of the food was worth it. read more

Beautiful, elevated space. Great, well trained staff with top tier service. They know the menu and history inside and out, Erika was standout. Fun space for groups or date nights. Food was delicious, and they were helpful in making suggestions for dietary restrictions. Would absolutely return. Vegetable toban yaki was delicious, and shaved ice was insane. read more

Came to Matsuhisa for a work dinner, and from a food and service standpoint, it absolutely delivered. Every dish we tried was well executed and delicious. The nigiri and sashimi plates were the clear standouts -- incredibly fresh and flavorful. The foie gras was good, but didn't feel especially memorable compared to the rest of the menu. I didn't see the final bill, but this is definitely a special-occasion type spot, and I'm not sure I'd personally splurge at that price point. That said, the service was unbelievable -- attentive, polished, and made the entire experience feel elevated. Overall, an excellent dining experience with top-tier service. read more

The poor visit was a "one-off" instance. They redeem themselves with food and service at the sushi bar top. I stay away from the over management at the bar. They might be getting better at the bar but not an inviting environment. The sushi bar and service is where it is. Great food. read more

Sushi was fantastic, the service was excellent, and the presentation impressive. We were here on a Friday for a small birthday celebration.

Having been to Nobu's in Malibu and Los Angeles, I knew what to expect. It has a delightful, beautifully laid out interior with a well trained and cordial staff. The sushi bar is long and well appointed but was not busy while the restaurant seating on a Wednesday evening appeared to be near full. It is expensive and the two of us went all-in. We ignored the cold sake with bottles costing over $100 and instead went for house cocktails for $17 each. The sashimi tuna salad was our starter and the main course was for us was a dish of black cod and one of sole. We split each. Both dishes were excellent. We finished with a rice pudding desert which we split- - very good. The price with tip? Just under $200. Any negatives? Yes, a lot of small size dining room tables close together... you can hear conversations near you. It feels crowded, not intimate. Based on the crowded feeling, I would give it 4.5 stars, not 5, but that isn't an option. read more

We loved it! My family and I had the most wonderful experience last night at this sushi restaurant. Every dish was a work of art, fresh, delicious and beautiful. I don't go out to restaurants much anymore at my age, but my experience here was so lovely I felt I simply had to share. Our server, Hannah, was an absolute gem. She was warm, patient, and attentive in a way that reminded me of how service used to be years ago. She never rushed us, spoke clearly, and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. She checked in just enough without hovering, and she had such a kind smile. It made me feel truly welcome and cared for, which means more than I can say. I also had the pleasure of meeting the manager, Brian Harker. He came by our table and was so polite and respectful. It's clear he runs a wonderful establishment and takes pride in both his staff and his guests. He treated us with genuine kindness, and you can tell he leads by example. It's rare these days to find such thoughtful service, and both Hannah and Brian made our visit very special. I left feeling happy, appreciated, and already looking forward to returning. They are a credit to this restaurant and to their profession. Warmly, A very grateful 80-year-old guest read more

The food was okay, but the service really hurt the experience. There was very little communication, and the staff came off short and dismissive, as if they were having a bad day and taking it out on guests. Disappointing overall. read more

For starters the food was fine...it wasn't anything mind blowing..it was good, not great. The major issues we had was how the mechanics of the server(s) and staff was. First of all, a few things we wanted on the main menu were out of stock, and no one bothered to mention it until we decided and then attempted to place the order ...so back to the drawing board. Annoying. Our main server, while very nice, his delivery was like he was doing us a favor by mansplaining every single detail of how a 2 piece item could be then replated to be a 3 piece item and how he'd be happy to do that for us....like he's doing something out of the ordinary by bringing us what we're wanting to order. Look, if we're here, we clearly are okay with the prices and NOT looking to be nickel and dimed because we're wanting 3 of something versus 2. We know what things cost, we can read the menu. It felt almost like they're trying to keep talking, keep mincing words, keep explaining that they're doing us a solid by giving us what we're ordering. It didn't make sense and this isn't the first NOBU restaurant we've been to...but this was perplexing and will keep me from returning....can I just order ...and then you can just bring me what I ordered and then we can eat ? It isn't that complicated. I order...you bring the order. Lastly and I'm NOT kidding...not 5 min could go by without the bussing staff was there...cleaning a dot off the table, taking plates, taking glasses.. giving water...replacing things...one young woman asked me if I was done ordering..I said I wasn't sure..she said so you're going to order more.. I said again...I wasn't sure...like relax it's 5:30 pm the restaurant has more than 10 empty tables that I could see and what exactly are you going for ? should we leave ? should we stay ? can I order ? should I not...like GO AWAY and let us enjoy our meal. It was INFURIATING. For these reasons I wouldn't recommend this location if you're looking for a relaxing dinner. Like I said, the food was fine, the servers killed the vibe and ruined what was supposed to be a nice night out. read more

I'm giving Matsuhisa 5 stars only for the fact that I can't give it more, because this place was amazing. The service is wonderful and the food was some of the best I've ever had. This is such an amazing restaurant! Absolutely love! The service and food is impeccable. We are so lucky to have Matsuhisa in Denver.

WOW WOW WOW. This is Chef Nobu's third restaurant in Colorado, with the other two locations in Aspen & Vail. This new-style Japanese and was to die for. While everything was truly great, I'd say the must try items are: yellowtail jalapeño sashimi & crispy spicy tuna. Our entire group was happy dancing between each bite. Ambiance is mid-modern minimalist, the restaurant is truly beautiful. Our server guided us throughout the entire sushi experience and it did not disappoint. read more

Food amazing, service wonderful, absolutely perfect place to go for a special occasion!

Matsuhisa is an incredible dining experience. I love a fun and fancy dinner out with my husband and this might be the new go-to place for date night. Book reservations early in advance if you want a specific day/time because it can get tough grabbing a last minute reservation. From start to finish, I enjoyed everything we ordered. My favorite dishes were the crispy rice and tuna and the chilean seabass with truffles. OH MY GOD! So freakin delicious. I wish wish wish the portions were larger so I could eat more of everything. Our waitress was extremely helpful with the menu and even wrote a bunch of stuff down for us to order the next time we go, which I hope is sometime soon. My husband LOVED the sushi roll we ordered. I tried some of it and I could not believe how much flavor was packed into such a small bite of food. Such an awesome restaurant. read more

Came with my husband for our anniversary mid-week on a Tuesday. He'd made the reservation in advanced, but we still ended up waiting about 15 minutes for our table. It seemed a bit busy- especially for a random Tuesday in August. Once seated, I wasn't thrilled by our table neighbors. We had a 2-top smack in the middle of a family with young children, and a group of 6 semi-inebriated adults. Hey, no judgement, but maybe the room layout wasn't conducive to intimacy? I dunno, but I was definitely able to hear convos from both tables (probably just too close) Speaking of atmosphere, I think this is really what kills it for my husband and I. Dark- sure, sets the mood. Music- um, a bit loud and kinda techno/EDM vibes? We concluded that the restaurant felt to "Vegas-y" and didn't really feel inviting. Oh- the food? It was alright. Presentation was nicely plated, fish was definitely high quality. Service? I hate to say it, but the bus person was perhaps the kindest and most connected individual we interacted with all evening. From the host who sat us and was barely whispering to our server who seemed rushed and boisterous when we asked what items on the menu contained- it was a less than stellar experience. For the price, I would have hoped for and expected more. Maybe it's the Cherry Creek vibe? Don't think I'll be coming back- there's waaaay to many good sushi places in Denver. read more

This has to be one of the best omakase I've had in Colorado so far!! If you come here you have to try the omakase, it's one of the best meals I've had in my life! Let's just say if you had to choose a meal on death row, this would hands down be it. There are two different options for omakase - chefs tasting omakase or the regular tasting omakase. They are equally the same price of $175 per person. We were told the chefs tasting omakase would take longer and take around two and a half hours as they were busy so we opted for the regular menu. The regular menu omakase was amazing! They had special courses that were off menu which made this experience superb! I'm itching to come back again for omakase! read more

Matsuhisa - Sushi Bars Near Me - Denver, Colorado

Service is phenomenal, waiters are very patient with you when you're deciding and give you very detailed and thoughtful recommendations. Food is very good and fresh, but I failed to find anything that seriously wowed me for the price. Some highlights were the salmon nigiris (smoked salmon and copper river Alaska salmon), the spicy tuna crispy rice, and the shaved ice dessert. Everything else we got was either pretty average or disappointing. They also don't have a very appealing menu of sushi rolls as all their options are just the name of the fish in the roll and there are no creative or specialty rolls that I've come to expect. The miso soup was unpleasant to eat because it was borderline boiling in temperature and burnt our tongues. The yellowtail jalapeño sashimi is supposed to be the "signature dish that put Nobu [Matsuhisa] on the map", but it was in my opinion way too citrusy, cut too thick, and doesn't come close to specialty sashimis at comparable restaurants. The octopus sashimi we got was unsatisfactory in preparation as it was just two pieces of raw octopus served on some generic greens when usually octopus sashimi is marinated in some way. The cocktails were good for the most part and strong, but not necessarily memorable. We also ordered a lobster roll, but it never came and we had to inform the waiter. When it did come we thought it was pretty good. Overall while the food is good I probably wouldn't recommend coming here because the price is very, very high, their selection of rolls is underwhelming and most of the other selections on the menu aren't particularly memorable. Most of the other top-rated sushi places in Denver top this place for sure. read more
