Considering the only other US location is in California, I was surprised and knew this would be my opportunity to try it! The aesthetic is modern & elevated with Japanese wooden features. I got 3 classic dishes which was just the right amount of food. I honestly recommend coming with a group to try more items since you know everything will be delicious. The Yellowtail Jalapeño is a signature dish; the yellowtail was delicate & buttery and the citrus soy with the bight of jalapeño made each bite clean, bright, with some subtle heat. I did not expect the Rock Shrimp Tempura to be that good! The shrimp was lightly battered & fried but the sauces were the highlights! Their creamy spicy is a very well-done spicy mayo but the butter ponzu was unreal! Super addictive, rich, and unlike any sauce I've had before. Shout out to my waitress for suggesting getting both sauces on the side rather than lathered on the shrimp, which also kept it crispy. Last but certainly not least is the famous Black Cod! The fish is super buttery and flaky; there were some caramelized edges from the miso glaze which added so much depth & richness to the bite. It's a good balance of sweetness, savoriness, umami that is bound to be good. All in all, so grateful I got to try what many call an institution and will certainly try more of chef Nobu's restaurants. read more

I'm familiar with the Nobu chain of restaurants and understood that this would be similar. We were a party of four that were celebrating a birthday. We ordered Omakase style. Some of courses were delicious and some were mediocre. We spent almost $700 for a party of four. The situation that needs the most improvement was the pace of the meal. The courses were separated by a 20-30-minute wait time. Considering that the courses were very small and contained 5-6 pieces for a party of four... that equates to a little more than a small bite every 20-30 minutes. The dinner took 2.5 hours to develop, and we were honestly still hungry by the end. The waiter started asking us if were "still hungry" at about the fifth courses. By the end, we felt awkward in asking for more. The wagyu beef was particularly disappointing as the beef was somewhat chewy, lacking taste and small. Waiters seemed to be near their capacity of workload. Didn't really take the time to serve, walk you thru the menus, keep the service moving or even gauge your level of satisfaction. We ordered dessert to celebrate the birthday. Apart from a small chocolate plaque on the dessert that said, "happy birthday", there was no attempt to celebrate the occasion as other less exclusive restaurants do... no "happy birthday" wish, no courtesy dessert... nothing special. The best part of this meal was by far, the young couple that accompanied us. Friendly advice: if you want to impress a client with something the feels exclusive... this may be the place. If you are looking for amazing food, being pampered and feeling your money was "well spent", try another place. I don't plan to visit this restaurant soon. read more

The nigiri and sashimi plates were the clear standouts -- incredibly fresh and flavorful. The foie gras was good, but didn't feel especially memorable compared to the rest of the menu. I didn't see the final bill, but this is definitely a special-occasion type spot, and I'm not sure I'd personally splurge at that price point. Had a lot of great food in Denver but a lot was super heavy and not what I normally eat. We came here for dinner our last night and what a way to end the weekend!! All of the fish is super fresh and delicate. My favorite dish was definitely the toro tartare with caviar. Insane flavor! The lamb chops were amazing and the sushi and sashimi were fantastic. First time here, the sushi is phenomenal. I think I may have found the best sushi joint in denver. Everything was seasoned where it made sense from condiments, yes condiments to entree course. For example like soy sauce on the side. Not every piece of sushi needs soy sauce and particularly the type of soy sauce (low sodium, regular, etc..)z We got a variety type of course from cooked to nigiri. Because we wanted to try out the ranges. I highly recommend the dry miso sea bass for a cooked meal. And any sashimi/nigiri is good. Its a pricey restaurant as expected. So I'd recommend not getting the basic salmon as your go to sushi. Try something else as the price is already expensive either way. For starters the food was fine...it wasn't anything mind blowing..it was good, not great. The major issues we had was how the mechanics of the server(s) and staff was. First of all, a few things we wanted on the main menu were out of stock, and no one bothered to mention it until we decided and then attempted to place the order ...so back to the drawing board. Annoying. Our main server, while very nice, his delivery was like he was doing us a favor by mansplaining every single detail of how a 2 piece item could be then replated to be a 3 piece item and how he'd be happy to do that for us....like he's doing something out of the ordinary by bringing us what we're wanting to order. Look, if we're here, we clearly are okay with the prices and NOT looking to be nickel and dimed because we're wanting 3 of something versus 2. We know what things cost, we can read the menu. It felt almost like they're trying to keep talking, keep mincing words, keep explaining that they're doing us a solid by giving us what we're ordering. It didn't make sense and this isn't the first NOBU restaurant we've been to...but this was perplexing and will keep me from returning....can I just order ...and then you can just bring me what I ordered and then we can eat ? It isn't that complicated. I order...you bring the order. Lastly and I'm NOT kidding...not 5 min could go by without the bussing staff was there...cleaning a dot off the table, taking plates, taking glasses.. giving water...replacing things...one young woman asked me if I was done ordering..I said I wasn't sure..she said so you're going to order more.. I said again...I wasn't sure...like relax it's 5:30 pm the restaurant has more than 10 empty tables that I could see and what exactly are you going for ? should we leave ? should we stay ? can I order ? should I not...like GO AWAY and let us enjoy our meal. It was INFURIATING. For these reasons I wouldn't recommend this location if you're looking for a relaxing dinner. Having been to Nobu's in Malibu and Los Angeles, I knew what to expect. It has a delightful, beautifully laid out interior with a well trained and cordial staff. The sushi bar is long and well appointed but was not busy while the restaurant seating on a Wednesday evening appeared to be near full. It is expensive and the two of us went all-in. We ignored the cold sake with bottles costing over $100 and instead went for house cocktails for $17 each. The sashimi tuna salad was our starter and the main course was for us was a dish of black cod and one of sole. We split each. Both dishes were excellent. We finished with a rice pudding desert which we split- - very good. The price with tip? Just under $200. Any negatives? Yes, a lot of small size dining room tables close together... you can hear conversations near you. It feels crowded, not intimate. Based on the crowded feeling, I would give it 4.5 stars, not 5, but that isn't an option. read more

She was warm, patient, and attentive in a way that reminded me of how service used to be years ago. She never rushed us, spoke clearly, and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. She checked in just enough without hovering, and she had such a kind smile. It made me feel truly welcome and cared for, which means more than I can say. I also had the pleasure of meeting the manager, Brian Harker. He came by our table and was so polite and respectful. It's clear he runs a wonderful establishment and takes pride in both his staff and his guests. He treated us with genuine kindness, and you can tell he leads by example. This has to be one of the best omakase I've had in Colorado so far!! If you come here you have to try the omakase, it's one of the best meals I've had in my life! Let's just say if you had to choose a meal on death row, this would hands down be it. There are two different options for omakase - chefs tasting omakase or the regular tasting omakase. They are equally the same price of $175 per person. We were told the chefs tasting omakase would take longer and take around two and a half hours as they were busy so we opted for the regular menu. Book reservations early in advance if you want a specific day/time because it can get tough grabbing a last minute reservation. From start to finish, I enjoyed everything we ordered. My favorite dishes were the crispy rice and tuna and the chilean seabass with truffles. OH MY GOD! So freakin delicious. I wish wish wish the portions were larger so I could eat more of everything. Came with my husband for our anniversary mid-week on a Tuesday. He'd made the reservation in advanced, but we still ended up waiting about 15 minutes for our table. It seemed a bit busy- especially for a random Tuesday in August. Once seated, I wasn't thrilled by our table neighbors. We had a 2-top smack in the middle of a family with young children, and a group of 6 semi-inebriated adults. Hey, no judgement, but maybe the room layout wasn't conducive to intimacy? I dunno, but I was definitely able to hear convos from both tables (probably just too close) Speaking of atmosphere, I think this is really what kills it for my husband and I. Dark- sure, sets the mood. Music- um, a bit loud and kinda techno/EDM vibes? We concluded that the restaurant felt to "Vegas-y" and didn't really feel inviting. Oh- the food? It was alright. Presentation was nicely plated, fish was definitely high quality. Service? I hate to say it, but the bus person was perhaps the kindest and most connected individual we interacted with all evening. From the host who sat us and was barely whispering to our server who seemed rushed and boisterous when we asked what items on the menu contained- it was a less than stellar experience. Service is phenomenal, waiters are very patient with you when you're deciding and give you very detailed and thoughtful recommendations. Food is very good and fresh, but I failed to find anything that seriously wowed me for the price. Some highlights were the salmon nigiris (smoked salmon and copper river Alaska salmon), the spicy tuna crispy rice, and the shaved ice dessert. Everything else we got was either pretty average or disappointing. They also don't have a very appealing menu of sushi rolls as all their options are just the name of the fish in the roll and there are no creative or specialty rolls that I've come to expect. The miso soup was unpleasant to eat because it was borderline boiling in temperature and burnt our tongues. The yellowtail jalapeño sashimi is supposed to be the "signature dish that put Nobu [Matsuhisa] on the map", but it was in my opinion way too citrusy, cut too thick, and doesn't come close to specialty sashimis at comparable restaurants. The octopus sashimi we got was unsatisfactory in preparation as it was just two pieces of raw octopus served on some generic greens when usually octopus sashimi is marinated in some way. The cocktails were good for the most part and strong, but not necessarily memorable. We also ordered a lobster roll, but it never came and we had to inform the waiter. When it did come we thought it was pretty good. Overall while the food is good I probably wouldn't recommend coming here because the price is very, very high, their selection of rolls is underwhelming and most of the other selections on the menu aren't particularly memorable. We went to Matsuisha for an early Valentine's Day/Anniversary dinner and had an awesome time! The vibe was very modern yet still intimate. Service was good and the food was timed perfectly. We tried three of the Matsuisha/Nobu specialties: spicy tuna crispy rice, black miso cod, and yellowtail jalapeño. The spicy tuna crispy rice had a one of a kind texture with the cold tuna and warm fried rice squares. The yellowtail was extremely fresh but I personally would have preferred more heat. The black miso cod is really a one of a kind bite full of umami and you MUST try it. The sushi combo plate and Wagyu tacos were tasty but nothing to write home about. The salmon sashimi was delicious and had a nice green onion flavor. Our drinks were fantastic! I had a lychee martini which was perfectly sweet and cold. We also had some Japanese whiskey and cold sake-- both impressing us with how smooth they were. The only reason Matsuisha isn't getting 5 stars was because the atmosphere and service reflected a more casual experience, but the menu prices communicated a very upscale experience.
