Not sure if our host timed it all or if they take a while to prep, but we were there for just about three hours total. The steak was definitely the highlight of the meal for me. Nicely cooked and reasonably tender for skirt steak. They had a few misses in service - we got some drinks we didn't order (we ordered mimosas and somehow got a mezcal cocktail?) and they didn't give serving utensils despite a family style meal, so it was difficult to scoop hash browns with a fork. Overall, it was a nice spot and seemed pretty popular outside our meal.

There were bright elements in our visit, but overall, I was disappointed. FOOD & DRINK: We ordered a couple of cocktails. The S'mores seasonal cocktail was mostly about sweetness (a not uncommon thing here). My Diabolo cocktail had what might have been a pleasant, lightweight fruit flavor, but that was overwhelmed by Calabrian chilis (which also threatened to overwhelm the apps). Both more or less matched the description on the menu, but the execution was underwhelming. I later had a glass of Chianti, which was nice. We had some Cacio e Pepe Arancini, which did not remind me at all of Cacio e Pepe, and were sort of gooey, though the pesto aioli was a nice touch. We split a Caesar salad which was a good idea because (a) it was huge and (b) it was the tastiest thing we had -- an excellent, garlicky dressing, with a good blend of lettuce, parmesan, and house croutons. My lasagna came in a little metal baking bowl that, duh, it was baked in. It looked very nice, and was a generous proportion, but it made actually cutting up and eating bites of the lasagna a bit awkward. The savory of the sauce in the lasagna was mostly swamped by the sweetness of the ricotta mixture. My wife had Short Rib sauce on Lumache pasta. It was tasty, but not as flavorful as the short ribs or the rest of the menu description hinted. That was an overall flaw of most of what we had -- interesting-sounding items that seemed to have the flavor turned down to 3. For dessert, the salted caramel Budino was fine but too sweet. That also described the Tiramisu. The coffee was good. SERVICE: Though it took a couple of minutes for them to decide on a table for us (though we had reservations and were there on the dot), everything else about the service was outstanding -- our waitress when we needed her, not there when we didn't, and overall very friendly and pleasant. Bravo. AMBIANCE: The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. The chairs were surprisingly comfortable and nicely narrow in profile (though wide enough for comfort) so that moving them around and maneuvering past them wasn't a problem. Biggest issue here was that, at 5:45 and for the duration of our meal, the noise level was such that my wife and I could hardly hear each other over the table we were at. Most of the noise, though not all of it, was Happy Hour folk in the bar, and North Italia clearly does a land office business with that cohort. For me, I'd make a point to dine later, if that fit the rest of the plans for the evening. NET-NET: Being in Cherry Creek, parking is always an issue. The adjoining hotel gave us valet service for $14, which was worth it for the convenience. Not counting that valet, or tip, the tab worked out to about $90 each for the two of us which on the one hand I would expect for a higher-end restaurant in the area, but on the other hand seemed a bit steeper than the food experience we'd had. I wouldn't turn down an invitation from a friend to dine at North Italia again -- it wasn't a *bad* meal -- but I wouldn't recommend to a friend as a place to eat. There are a lot of great restaurants, even just in the Cherry Creek area, and I'd rather try (or revisit) one of those, given a preference.

Here is what we ordered and what we thought: Burrata - The special pesto of the night was a shishito pepper and sesame seed one that was unique and excellent. With the yummy bread served with it, we ate and sopped up every bit. Crispy Pork Terrine - such a different way to make a terrine that really worked. We all loved it! I just wish there were a few more peach slices on the dish. Rainbow Trout Spiedini - Oh my gosh this was a surprise! It was probably our favorite bite of the night. It comes with three pieces, but Tim added another so we could each have our own skewer. I would order this for my main next time. So fresh, not at all fishy, and the salsa verde was fantastic. Eggplant Parmesan - it was good but didn't stand out like the other dishes we ordered. Sweet Corn Anolini - since it was sweet corn season, this dish hit on all levels. I think it was gone in two minutes. Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese - don't think heavy red sauce here. This version is authentic, light, well balanced, and so flavorful. It was absolutely delicious! Baked Cookie - I'm a fan of browned butter in any baked good, but this cookie needed more sugar. It was barely sweet. This place is pricey for sure. The Yellowtail Jalapeño is a signature dish; the yellowtail was delicate & buttery and the citrus soy with the bight of jalapeño made each bite clean, bright, with some subtle heat. I did not expect the Rock Shrimp Tempura to be that good! The shrimp was lightly battered & fried but the sauces were the highlights! Their creamy spicy is a very well-done spicy mayo but the butter ponzu was unreal! Super addictive, rich, and unlike any sauce I've had before. Shout out to my waitress for suggesting getting both sauces on the side rather than lathered on the shrimp, which also kept it crispy. Last but certainly not least is the famous Black Cod! The fish is super buttery and flaky; there were some caramelized edges from the miso glaze which added so much depth & richness to the bite. The courses were separated by a 20-30-minute wait time. Considering that the courses were very small and contained 5-6 pieces for a party of four... that equates to a little more than a small bite every 20-30 minutes. The dinner took 2.5 hours to develop, and we were honestly still hungry by the end. The waiter started asking us if were "still hungry" at about the fifth courses. By the end, we felt awkward in asking for more. The wagyu beef was particularly disappointing as the beef was somewhat chewy, lacking taste and small. Waiters seemed to be near their capacity of workload. Didn't really take the time to serve, walk you thru the menus, keep the service moving or even gauge your level of satisfaction. We ordered dessert to celebrate the birthday. Apart from a small chocolate plaque on the dessert that said, "happy birthday", there was no attempt to celebrate the occasion as other less exclusive restaurants do... no "happy birthday" wish, no courtesy dessert... nothing special. When done right, their fries are fantastic, however this is a regular issue now. Also, they changed their burger in the past year, something I used to order a bunch, but not at all anymore. It used to be a grass fed patty and now they call this a wagyu blend, but it's awful and tasteless compared to the old one. Additionally, their wings (for some reason only when getting to-go) are either way over sauced, sitting in a pool of sauce and thus get soggy or they're under-sauced. The issue with the oil is really what gets me though. I'm guessing they're dragging it out longer before changing it to save money, but they're doing it at the cost of quality and now they've lost a regular customer. I may revisit next year, but not anytime soon. Employees are relatively friendly and service is ok, ambience is typical of a wing joint.
