Kealoha's BBQ - Combo Plate (~$17) of Teriyaki Chicken and Loco Moco with Sunnyside Egg (+$2)

Where is the hundred star button? OMG…read more This place was great. We ate here twice. It is run by two women, one of whom is from the Big Island. She regularly goes there for ingredients. You've gotta love that! We had the barbecue ribs and misubi. The barbecued ribs are some of the best I've ever had. Like seriously anywhere. To be honest, I'm not a huge traditional Hawaiian food person, and so I was a little apprehensive at first. Oh no. This place is perfection. Absolute perfection. Portions are generous as well. What really makes it special are the women who work there. They are incredibly friendly and love to talk to their patrons. True, true, Aloha spirit! Lots of outdoor seating, which was very comfortable when we were there last Highest recommendation!

It's a food truck right on 16th Street. It seems to be a 2-person operation so unfortunately it was not as fast I was hoping. The lady working there was super friendly! I got the Combo Plate and decided on the Teriyaki Chicken and Loco Moco. The Teriyaki Chicken was smoky, sweet, and savory. The Loco Moco was very satisfying, particularly with the gravy and perfectly cooked Sunnyside Egg! The rice & mac salad were both great classic sides to have with this meal. The Lilikoi Lemonade was described as their passionfruit lemonade but I wasn't getting much passionfruit. It's tangy, sweet, and refreshing and paired well with the meal but it just wasn't passionfruit flavor. Good try and it kept me full for hours!

The service was quick, and while there isn't much seating inside, there are plenty of spots along the street where you can sit, relax, and enjoy your ice cream. Such a fun place to stop if you're in the area!

It was a good balance between the intense grassiness of the matcha and the sweetness of the strawberry. I ordered mine in a tayaki lined with Nutella. It came out as a sundae with the tayaki on top plus a little lemon macaron and two pocky sticks. To absolutely no one's surprise, this was too much dessert (at least for me) and could have been split with someone else. There are some fish sculptures to sit on and a couple Adirondack chairs, but otherwise you might need to stand while eating or take it while you walk. Less than ideal but comes with the whole kiosk thing. The staff wasn't so great at communicating options and so, for example, my friend wasn't given the option to choose her cone flavor though they clearly had 3 options. No big deal--definitely worth a stop on a hot day.

(Photo) And oh my gosh, if you don't stop, you're missing out! The proprietor (who is friendly and chatty, even with the language barrier and even complimenting my clumsy attempt at Spanish!) offers up Tacos and Burritos from his brightly colored truck's window with a smile on his face. The tacos are $1-$1.75, ranging from Steak, Al Pastor (Pork), Tongue, Tripe, Barbacoa (which, I have on good authority from the man behind me, is the best around!) and more. The burritos are $5-$6, and if the size of the tacos are any indication, could feed a small Village for awhile. The Tacos are heaped with diced onions and cilantro, and topped with either Salsa Rojo or Salsa Verde, and Jalapenos on request, with a wedge of lime on the side. We had 2 Steak (1 Rojo and one Verde) and one Al Pastor Verde. The two fresh corn tortillas were piled high with meats and the toppings were heaped upon them, making these traditional two-bite tacos about 4 Bites for me! The tortillas melted in our mouths. (See photos!) The Salsas were seasoned perfectly, with the Rojo being the spicier of the two, leaving a pleasant tingling on my tongue and lips but not overpowering. The Verde was absolutely delicious on both the Steak and Pork, and I could eat that on just about anything. (More Photos!) I literally ran home just to write this review. This was OMGood, and I can't wait to make another stop. I'll get off the highway and take Washington for a few blocks just to drive by and grab some more!
