Kealoha's BBQ - Combo Plate (~$17) of Teriyaki Chicken and Loco Moco with Sunnyside Egg (+$2)

You've gotta love that! We had the barbecue ribs and misubi. The barbecued ribs are some of the best I've ever had. Like seriously anywhere. To be honest, I'm not a huge traditional Hawaiian food person, and so I was a little apprehensive at first. Oh no. This place is perfection. Absolute perfection. Portions are generous as well. What really makes it special are the women who work there. They are incredibly friendly and love to talk to their patrons. True, true, Aloha spirit! Lots of outdoor seating, which was very comfortable when we were there last Highest recommendation!

It's a food truck right on 16th Street. It seems to be a 2-person operation so unfortunately it was not as fast I was hoping. The lady working there was super friendly! I got the Combo Plate and decided on the Teriyaki Chicken and Loco Moco. The Teriyaki Chicken was smoky, sweet, and savory. The Loco Moco was very satisfying, particularly with the gravy and perfectly cooked Sunnyside Egg! The rice & mac salad were both great classic sides to have with this meal. The Lilikoi Lemonade was described as their passionfruit lemonade but I wasn't getting much passionfruit. It's tangy, sweet, and refreshing and paired well with the meal but it just wasn't passionfruit flavor. Good try and it kept me full for hours!

Instead of a lemonade stand, my friends and I had a sidewalk food stand, where we sold pizza and hot pretzels to our neighbors. And now I work in downtown Denver, and I could go to a food cart everyday if I wanted to. So I've walked by Empanadas Argentina's blue umbrella a number of times, always on my way to someplace else and always thinking to myself "I've got to try that cart!" So I did. Today. And it's delicious. They have 4 kinds of empanadas: Spicy Chicken, Beef, Ham & Cheese, and Spinach with White Sauce. He was out of Spicy Chicken (damn you guy that just bought them all from under me!) but was cooking more up in his cart's oven. So I opted for the 3 empanadas for $5, and got 1 of each of the remaining choices. You have to get at least 3. I could probably have eaten 3 more. They aren't that big. The beef was by far the best. Flavorful, kinda cheesy with an outstanding buttery yet flaky crust. My second favorite was the Spinach. I was expecting more of an alfredo sauce for the white sauce, but it wasn't nearly as rich. Just enough sauce to give the spinach creaminess, yet little enough to not overwhelm the spinach. Same flaky crust. Finally, the Ham & Cheese. Also good, but it just seemed like a better quality/tasting hot pocket to me. Of course, it had that signature flaky crust. So if you're walking down 16th st. and have a hankering for a quick bite, grab some empanadas from Empanadas Argentina. You won't be sorry.

The service was quick, and while there isn't much seating inside, there are plenty of spots along the street where you can sit, relax, and enjoy your ice cream. It was a good balance between the intense grassiness of the matcha and the sweetness of the strawberry. I ordered mine in a tayaki lined with Nutella. It came out as a sundae with the tayaki on top plus a little lemon macaron and two pocky sticks. To absolutely no one's surprise, this was too much dessert (at least for me) and could have been split with someone else. There are some fish sculptures to sit on and a couple Adirondack chairs, but otherwise you might need to stand while eating or take it while you walk. Less than ideal but comes with the whole kiosk thing. The staff wasn't so great at communicating options and so, for example, my friend wasn't given the option to choose her cone flavor though they clearly had 3 options. No big deal--definitely worth a stop on a hot day.
