Well since I have been diagnosed with Celiac Disease restaurants basically been a no go for me... BUT here at 99 they have gluten free hamburger buns, I talked to the Waitress about my condition and she was very wonderful. The Bacon Cheeseburger was very juicy and gluten free bread was delicious a little soggy at the bottom but that was okay. French Fries were salted a little too much so next time I am going to order them with no salt, the place was kind of dead though 2 people at the bar and 6 people in total dining in. Now being that dead they could of least got a broom and dust pan and cleaned around the tables food was all on the floor, other than the dirty floor the place was okay. read more

My veteran friend and I went on Veteran's Day because Veterans get a free meal. The restaurant was PACKED and we had been seated in a booth in the bar area. The server behind the bar (Nick) was HUSTLING, working the entire bar area including taking drink/food orders and serving them, as well as making drinks for the servers in the dining area. The food was great and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Props to the manager and the entire staff that day who worked like a team, especially, though, to Nick. Great job!! read more

I'll never understand why Red Lobster was closed and a Ninety Nine was opened in its place. Why not an Olive Garden? Even if someone sat me down with financials proving it was the best financial decision ever and studied as an inspiration in good financial decisions, I'd still be confused. The Ninety Nine is located in Torrington Plaza with TJ Maxx, Joann's, and Staples (among other shops). Parking is on the side and front of the building, and of that there is plenty. You're greeted by a host and escorted to your table or directed to the bar. Tables are in the backroom, in the front are purely booths. The chairs are deceptively low. The walls are covered in local historical photos and signs, so they're trying to connect to the community. The host and waitress were both very nice and friendly, and the waitress provided insight into several dishes we debated about. So this review has one star for both of them. But ultimately, the restaurant just isn't treated well. There's a lot of trash on the ground and in the booths. The tables are slightly sticky. The food is okay, but nothing special, nothing you can only get at a Ninety Nine. The crispy cauliflower was fine, and the dipping sauce much spicier than I expected. The potato skins were well cooked well with inconsistent amounts of cheese. The lobster flatbread was under-seasoned, and the cheese did not compliment the lobster. I always loved 99! They have a decent amount of American fare options to suit your mood. They are also fairly priced! Also, for a low extra cost you can make any meal three courses and choose a soup or salad and a petites treat. Love a deal! I also like that they give you popcorn for the table. I got the southwest fajita bowl with chicken and it was SO good, I'm still thinking about that sauce! It was also huge, so I was able to take some home for another meal. Their broccoli cheddar soup was good. My grandmother got the turkey wrap with fries and she wasn't crazy about, she said it was dry. The service was great, we sat at the bar area on a Monday night. We got the Southwest fajita bowl which my daughter said was decent. My husband got the Sirloin tips & Chicken strips which he said was okay, fries were good. I got the Baked Haddock which had no flavor at all, neither did the mashed potatoes I had with it, but the broccoli was good. We were a party of 3, and we were brought out a bunch of napkins, 3 knives, and 1 fork. The fork had dried food on it, the knives all had what I hope were just water spots but looked grungy. I had to ask for 3 forks when our server brought out the meals because she didn't notice we had none. I asked for a lemonade, got an iced tea. My daughter asked for no lettuce in her fajita bowl and go light on the jalapeños. The server read back our order, saying no lettuce, no jalapeños and we had to correct to some jalapeños. My daughter got some jalapeños but she got lots of lettuce too. Towards the end, our server came to check on us, asked if we were thinking about dessert and we said no. She left our check and walked away. My husband put his credit card on the bill, and started eating again. Our server came back over, ran the card through her computer, and turned it around (while he's still eating) so he could pick a tip and sign. I know this is not her fault, but what a terrible way to do business. He was literally eating food and had to stop, pick a tip while she is standing there watching, and give the computer back to her. And I really hate places that give you 3 percentages to choose from and if you want to leave anything else you have to search for the "other" button. In this case, the food was average and the service was below average - we would have left 15% because that's our minimum. But the choices were 22, 20, or 18%. My husband picked 18 because he didn't feel like dealing with it while she's standing there. The restaurant wasn't filthy but it wasn't clean either. We were just really underwhelmed by the whole experience - neither the food nor the service was good. read more

Food was great!! I remember a few years back it wasn't great, but it was actually very good this time. The service was OK at best. We were seated and it took roughly 15 minutes to be asked about drinks, meanwhile someone who was just sat down was asked not even a minute later. Our drinks and appetizers took about an average amount of time to be delivered, and they were all very good. Perfect portion sizes, even for a family of 4 to share. Main courses also didn't take too long, it was mainly the wait between being seated and asked for drinks that took a while. The restaurant has a pretty chill atmosphere. I take my kids here all the time. Service is always super friendly and understanding, very accommodating to requests and customizations, and super reasonable prices. The food is pretty much the same as any 99, but I just like the staff and the location a lot. We have had a couple big family dinners here too, I would recommend it if you have a multigenerational gathering and want crowd pleasers without breaking the bank! Plus free popcorn still! read more

I think Torringtonians are bitter that Red Lobster got replaced by...well, this. Don't get me wrong, 99 is good. They add a bit of New England flair to the usual American casual dining chain routine. They don't have "the same food as Applebees" and Chilis. Yes, the portions are smaller...but Torrington has enough raggy, glutonous slobs that 99 is a welcome relief. Their "healthy" choices on the menu are also more exciting than salad...or maybe I'm biased because I love salmon and one of the sub 500 cal options is salmon. I don't know. Except for the stale popcorn, I've found little to complain about at 99. It's no Red Lobster with their uber noms cheddar bay biscuits...now you have to go all the way to Danbury for that...but it isn't the terrible thimble meal these other reviewers are making it out to be. And by the way, when I come here I spend less than Applebees/Chilis/similar. It's not "overpriced". The $4 house margarita is great. Today I got a chicken panini and said house marg for $12. Damn when I go to Panera I spend $11 for half a sandwich, salad, and drink. read more

Oh man I love 99! I have not had a bad meal there ever. I tend to eat the same thing most of the time for health reason. Baked Haddock; done perfectly all the time. The worlds best cole slaw! Previously I have had their BBBQ extravaganza! This is to die for! Today I had a Platinum Margarita; I like it because it is not too sweet and is BIG! One other dish I have had in the past is their Clossal lobster Roll; when they say Clossal believe them. May daughter had one of their desserts; she ordered a warm chocolate chip cookie in a small but large skillet with tow scoops of Ice cream!!! It was the Boob.!! It's worth it to just go there for that cookie!!!!!! I like the lay-out and the staff which consist of young and mature people are super! read more

The food could have been better. I felt that the workers were being lazy with the food & service. It took a half hour for someone to finally take our order. The cauliflower bites appetizer was very good with the spicy ranch dip. I got the southwest fiesta salad for my meal, the only thing wrong was that the tomatoes were soggy. My friend had a burger with mashed potatoes, the mashed potatoes didn't taste that great I suggest they use more butter or sour cream, it was not creamy it was like chewing on glue it got stuck to the roof of their mouth. Wife ordered wings and skins, a favorite of ours, looked nice and fresh, boneless wings were plump and fresh, skins a little skimpy but we've had worse at other chains. I ordered sirloin tips with boneless wings. The "wings" were nothing like my wife's, dried out and half the size from sitting too long. The tips were shrunken and rubbery. The two meals were obviously not cooked at the same time. I'm a cooking fanatic and believe I know most of the tricks, they shouldn't have put out two meals, one fresh and one that has been sitting to the same table at the same time. I would give the customer service for this restaurant zero stars. I ordered online, picked up the food, and the entire order was wrong. When it seemed no one knew what to do, I asked for a refund rather than wait for them to figure it out. When I asked for a manager (Robert) he did not acknowledge me until he told me I was "all set". I asked for a receipt, and he argued with me that I should use the "honor system" and just trust I would get my money back. Then he gave me a piece of paper that had my canceled order on it. Friends from work gathered for a birthday celebration at the Torrington , Ct. '99'. I ordered Baked Stuffed Jumbo Shrimp with two sides. Fries were dry and hard, and seemingly overcooked. Broccoli was watery as if boiled to heat then dumped on the plate without butter or seasoning of any kind (would have slid off in any case it was so wet). Biggest disappointment was the shrimp. These were neither stuffed nor baked. 5 pale wet (boiled) shrimp with the tops sliced open. A round wet plop of bread stuffing placed on it. Perhaps placed in an oven for 5-mins. but I would NOT call these baked stuffed shrimp. Not buttery. Not baked. NO seasoning in the stuffing. BLAND. I know it is hard to earn a living. Things are expensive. Period. My caution to '99' is if you are unable to produce a product please take it off your menu. My dish wasn't very good. It wasn't at all what I ordered, either due to a poor chef (or NO chef) or cheap products or lack of worker cooking experience. Your business will go down the tubes if you don't realize real people are in the dining room. We are not dummies to be hung by the ankles and shake out our pocket change, then throw out onto the sidewalk. I ordered an appetizer to share which was indeed delicious. Our waitress was excellent. I had the pleasure of eating at this 99 with my grandparents yesterday evening. When my grandmother recommended we go there for dinner, I instantly replied with a "No way!" Then I thought about it and decided to give it a chance. The last time I ate at a 99, I had a horrible experience and the food was horrible. I had never been to this specific location, so I decided to give the chain another chance in a different location. I ended up being pleasantly surprised and had a good experience. Our waiter was fantastic, friendly, and took great care of us. All of our meals were delicious. I ordered the Fresh Local Haddock that came with orzo and it was great. I was really happy with it! Terrible. Save yourself the trip and just go to McDonalds. You'll have better food and service there. The menus were filthy and covered with old, dried up food. The table was somewhat sticky. The servers looked miserable. Great first impression.... I had the cajun shrimp. The rice was extremely under cooked, the peppers and roasted corn were okay and the shrimp was very chewy and over seasoned. I could not eat more than a few bites. I'm glad my husband and I decided to order take out at 99 today. My husband loves this restaurant so I decided to treat him for lunch. I was not expecting to love the lobster roll they were a real treat for a nice summer day. During Covid-19 it's hard to find good restaurants serving good food. Thanks 99 for making our day. Could have been four stars but for the Prime Rib episode. Read on... spent two evening in Torrington for a dance program at the Warner theater. First night we had the Pub Roast Beef dip, and Fish & Chips. Both were prepared well. My wife got a Moscow Mule at the bar, and the waitress cautioned "...it was the end of the bottle of Tito's so you may have a double pour" This was nothing to complain about ;) Second night now there with our son, we ordered Fish Tacos, Country Fried Steak, and Prime Rib. The steak and tacos were good- what you'd expect at a chain location. Consistent, right? But the prime rib was a huge disappointment. I requested medium rare,baked potato with sour cream and butter. I think I got a plate that was forgotten for some time in the kitchen and pawned off on my server. The rib was well past medium, and DRY. The potato,not wanting to be left out, had neither butter or sour cream and was nearly as dry as the rib. Ordinarily I would speak up and send it back. Tonight we were pressed for time and I didn't want to risk throwing us off schedule. Was it awful? No. Was it what I ordered or prefer? No :( and I only docked a half star for that. The other half star was lost by the host. He thinks he is being gracious. I find him creepy and not knowing boundaries. BOTH nights, he made sure to let us us know that Prime Rib was available, but he did so by leaning in towards our faces and saying "Prime Rib! OoooooOOOOOoooohhhhhh" That was the strangest behavior ever experienced from a host. THEN he proceeded to pitch the St. Patrick's day special for NEXT weekend. We politely interrupted to let him know we were not local - but he insisted on telling us the entire special offering anyway. This happened on BOTH nights. I swear it was almost like "Ground Hog Day - The Restaurant" (sorry Bill Murray...) The rest of the staff was super nice, helpful, top notch. A large ant crawled out from a piece of lettuce in our salad. Manager did come right over to apologize, but her explanation was less than reassuring. She said something to the effect of the weather change is bringing things into the kitchen. The occasional sugar ant might make its way inside, but not into your food. This ant was giant. It makes me wonder what shape the kitchen and food storage is in, and I hope the health department checks it out. Needless to say, we declined our entrees and left with no plans to ever return.
