Ah, I am utterly charmed! This cafe / eclectic tchotchke store is chock full of homemade goodness: from jam, soap, and crocheted cozies in the store section, to sandwiches, salads, cupcakes, Lebanese baklava, and other baked goods in the cafe section. They bake everything in house, with specials on some days (e.g. Sweet Bun Sunday). The selection is vast, especially considering that everything is scratch made in-house. Aromas are enticing! We picked up an orange cranberry dream bar, studded with plenty of white chocolate chips, coconut, and dried cranberries, topped with orange cream cheese frosting and more dried cranberries. It was *enormous* and easily served as dessert for four. Also in our order: a streusel topped blueberry cake, as moist as could be and filled with fresh blueberries. It was also generously proportioned, large enough for at least two. We didn't try any salads, breakfast platters, or sandwiches on this visit, but they looked fantastic, based on what I saw on other customers' plates. I found that the super friendly owners are of Lebanese descent when I asked about the Lebanese baklava at checkout -- and evidently, they sometimes have Lebanese meat pies on offer! I cannot wait to come back to try every Lebanese food item they have, since my family is passionately fond of the cuisine (and really, everything else, too). I had no idea such riches could be found in Torrington! You can't throw a rock without hitting an Italian-American in this town -- not that I would ever throw a rock at an Italian-American :) -- but this is the first I've heard of a Lebanese-American contingent in these parts. I ordered a cake from Kaylan's Kitchen for a post-wedding celebration, and it was truly the highlight of the event! Corey was an absolute pleasure to work with--she took the time to understand exactly what I envisioned and brought my ideas to life in a way that exceeded all expectations. The fault-line design was stunning and received compliments throughout the evening. As beautiful as it looked, the real surprise was how incredible it tasted. The homemade vanilla cake, infused with lemon zest, was moist and flavorful. The fresh lemon curd between the layers added the perfect balance of tangy sweetness, and the homemade buttercream frosting tied everything together beautifully. I was recently looking for new breakfast spots, and I saw Kaylan's on Google. I ordered online the night before for an 8 am pickup, and so glad I did. The breakfast quesadilla was really tasty and fresh. I only ordered the half-size, which was more than enough for one person (three good-sized triangle pieces). I added avocado and hash brown to my egg and cheese, delicious! My husband had the breakfast sandwich with sausage. He said it was great sausage, and the bagel was really good. As city people, we can be picky about bagels. I will be going back for lunch to check out more menu items later today or tomorrow. *Side Note here- I made a point of looking at the reviews before I ordered, and I was a little confused to see people adding low-rated reviews based on things like "not caring for the art they sold in their store". Or having to wait 20 minutes during the lunch break. Also, there were some complaints about the prices. Please be aware that eating out is a convenience you are paying for, not just the food you are receiving, but the cost of labor it takes these people to make it, their time, their establishment, overhead, etc., if you feel it's too expensive to eat out in general, that should not be a reflection of an establishment. *There is an online ordering form, and if you are pressed for time, it's super easy. I was in and out, back in my car in 12 minutes, and I also got coffee, but it wasn't on the order form while I was there. Yelp is for FOOD, we're talking about the quality of food and Service. The food is excellent. Is it fine dining? No. It's breakfast and lunch. It is, however, really good food at good prices. WoW Fantastic Food! Stopped in for my first time there today. Had a Corned Beef Reuben and my son had an absolutely giant Quesadilla. Also had baklava and peanut butter cookie. Great flavors on everything we had and it all tasted fresh and homemade. Their menu says they make all their salad dressings in house (same for the pastries in the display case by the register) and given how well the food we had tasted, I expect their many salads will be joyful too. I plan to try one on my next visit. I will also say their location is super convenient in Torrington (right across from the police station) but since the aren't right along the main shopping drag in 'downtown' you won't accidentally just happen across their restaurant unless you are intentionally going to them. Given how much we enjoyed our lunch from them today, it is definitely worth trying them out yourself (good sized parking lot for them is right behind their storefront). Don't be fooled by the positive reviews like I was. First of all, they forgot half my order. I go back in, they give me whats missing and a half hearted apology. I get home and open the quesadilla box up. It was badly burned allover and smelled like a dirty grill. I call to explain. Instead of owning up to the mistake, the woman on the phone gives me an attitude, repeating several times "it's just the cheese" acting as if it's suppose to be horribly burned. She said to bring it back if I want a new quesadilla. What a joke. I said I'll bring it back but I want a refund. She gave me more attitude, mentioned that it's just the cheese one more time and I hung up. I get to the register, open up the box and show her. What does she say? It's just the cheese. There's a difference between crispy cheese and cheese that smells like burnt plastic. If you make a mistake, fine. Just don't give me an attitude about it because you burned my $20 meal. read more

I remember when Kaylan's Kitchen was just starting out at craft fairs, and it's crazy how far they've come. With this establishment, they're definitely moving the bar up for Torrington's otherwise largely bleak food scene. First, parking is in back. Go slowly through the intersection because it comes up quickly and has a small bump. There is a back entrance, as well as one in the front. The back goes right into the retail shop, which has all sorts of cool items from local crafters - pottery, stained glass, chocolate, jewelry, crocheted creatures, food seasoning..... It goes on and on! It's connected to the kitchen, where there are about three tables of seating, plus the outside across from the police station. They have coolers for drinks and take away sandwiches, a case for baked goods, and a menu with pizza and sandwiches. I ordered the chicken bacon ranch, it's the best version of that pizza I've ever had in my life! Fantastic crust with a little bit of seasoning, hot cheese that gooed apart, and plenty of all of the toppings. The smell in the kitchen while you wait is also amazing, and their homemade bagels are worth every cent. You'll never want another plastic tasting grocery store bagel. There was a constant stream of people too, even employees from across the street. It says a lot to me people from the walkable area are choosing Kaylan's instead of the (more boring) McDonald's. They do recommend calling ahead to order, and it is more cost effective to pay with a debit card or cash. read more

I did not know this place was right around the corner from one of my favorite grocery stores until I found it right here on Yelp! They offer a huge variety of items!! Everything from muffins, cupcakes, soups, and sandwiches!! They also have a gift shop next door with SO much good stuff!! Everything from earrings, to candles, and honey sticks!! I got a Christmas present for my son. The owner and lady working were so nice!! There's so much more I want to try!!! read more

Generally speaking, the food quality is good. Meaning it is fresh-- but the prices are not in line with the portion size. Ordered the soup and salad. Salad is spring mix-- the kind you'd get in stop n shop in a bag. Came with about a tablespoon of dressing-- so a dry salad. Oof. Soup is excellent! But again, very small portion size. Ordered through DoorDash because I have the flu and didn't want to make lunch for my family-- well... this is a fail. If I was feeding an elementary school student it would be ok.... But not enough food for teens/adults (isn't that your salad demographic?) Alternatively, the cookies could feed a horse! Beautiful and giant. So essentially-- make it make sense.... I could feed four people with this cookie, but zero adults with the soup and salad. Perhaps this is representative of our culture? So, I'm disappointed. The price point is high but on par with places like Crumbs down the road that are more generous. My prediction is that this ends up being just a bakery down the road. Torrington doesn't have many quick service healthier options, so my choices are limited during break and my patience is often thin. I'm understanding but this place pushed every limit I had. Cluttered, full of AI mugs and 3D printed toys- I don't mean to be cruel, but the amount of strange and cheap things being sold in what is supposed to be a cafe is weird. That might just be my bleeding, pro artist heart though- I wish they'd consider supplying the area with actual art and craft. I'm sure someone enjoys it but it must be impossible to keep the place clean. Service is slow, insanely slow. All I ordered was a bagel with smoked salmon (lox, but the girl at the front didn't know what that was) and I'd specified that they should keep the cream cheese and cheese combination off of it. It took nearly 25 minutes to receive my order. It was only a bagel with lox and tomato. I was able to see into the kitchen and I wish I hadn't, the lady cooking was prepping my food with no gloves and had a drink on the counter. For a whopping 14 bucks you'd think there would be a decent amount of fish on there, but it was scant. I know I shouldn't expect some kind of kosher miracle in Torrington but oh my god. Could've fished and gutted a wild one faster myself. I'm sure these ladies are lovely but this is not it. read more

Cute find and truly a hidden jem! Upon entering, there was a cute little gift shop and tho the lady behind the counter was helping another customer, she made sure to pop her head out to say hi as we were looking around. I really felt welcomed in there. Stepping up from the gift shop, there was a bakery filled with sooo many delicious looking cakes and cookies. The lady behind the counter was extremely friendly and super helpful when it came to telling us what certain items were and what they were made with. Definitely helped with making our final decisions. At the end we noticed they served breakfast and lunch items. We will be back! read more

Food was decent. No real issues there. The service was ok, but it was awkward figuring out how to order. Future visits should be easier. She was friendly enough, but cut me off half way through my order to talk to a customer on the phone for about 5 minutes. I just had to stand there until she was ready for me again. A friend brought a crumb topped apple pie and scones from this excellent bakery. I cannot begin to describe how delicious they were!! The apples in the pie were cut and seasoned perfectly and the topping is just filled with walnut streusel goodness. My husband said it was the best pie he's had in 20 years. Cookies galore (the jumbo chocolate chip are full of 3 different kinds of chocolate, cinnamon rolls loaded with cinnamon and pillowy soft, cake, especially the chocolate cake(my favorite) is super moist and delicious and the scones? Not dry at all. The scones I've had at other established bakeries have been mostly very dry, crumbly and not very flavorful. There's also dry dip mixes with the dill dip being a favorite. I could go on and on! So I highly recommend going to Kaylan's Kitchen for your baking needs. Next up is a custom cake for my aunt's birthday.
