I'll never understand why Red Lobster was closed and a Ninety Nine was opened in its place. Why not an Olive Garden? Even if someone sat me down with financials proving it was the best financial decision ever and studied as an inspiration in good financial decisions, I'd still be confused. The Ninety Nine is located in Torrington Plaza with TJ Maxx, Joann's, and Staples (among other shops). Parking is on the side and front of the building, and of that there is plenty. You're greeted by a host and escorted to your table or directed to the bar. Tables are in the backroom, in the front are purely booths. The chairs are deceptively low. The walls are covered in local historical photos and signs, so they're trying to connect to the community. The host and waitress were both very nice and friendly, and the waitress provided insight into several dishes we debated about. So this review has one star for both of them. But ultimately, the restaurant just isn't treated well. There's a lot of trash on the ground and in the booths. The tables are slightly sticky. The food is okay, but nothing special, nothing you can only get at a Ninety Nine. The crispy cauliflower was fine, and the dipping sauce much spicier than I expected. The potato skins were well cooked well with inconsistent amounts of cheese. The lobster flatbread was under-seasoned, and the cheese did not compliment the lobster. (This was a seasonal appetizer)

I always loved 99! They have a decent amount of American fare options to suit your mood. They are also fairly priced! Also, for a low extra cost you can make any meal three courses and choose a soup or salad and a petites treat. Love a deal! I also like that they give you popcorn for the table. I got the southwest fajita bowl with chicken and it was SO good, I'm still thinking about that sauce! It was also huge, so I was able to take some home for another meal. Their broccoli cheddar soup was good. My grandmother got the turkey wrap with fries and she wasn't crazy about, she said it was dry. The service was great, we sat at the bar area on a Monday night. This place definitely had a hometown feel to it.

It's been a while since we've been back.. ordered takeout out. Was excited to try the new Cranberry Chicken Salad w/creamy poppyseed dressing. We were very disappointed - the salad was missing chicken and it was overall just blah.. perhaps the chicken would have given more flavor.

Standard chain fare and chain atmosphere. Nothing great, nothing awful. Service was very prompt and friendly.

Came on a Friday and they had great live music. I ordered a drink, the small size of nachos and the…read moreheirloom tower. Drink seemed mostly soda, but one of the people I sat with was extremely happy with their dirty martini. I tend to be a nacho snob and was not impressed with those. The cheese wasn't even completely melted and it looks like I was served the bottom of the bag because 80% of the chips were broken pieces. The heirloom tower was very good. Everything was fresh and the tomatoes crisp. The place itself is ok. There are two rooms and the room with the bar and entertainment was extremely stuffy and warm, the other room felt like Antarctica. Bathrooms were clean with 3 stalls, although one was out of order. Overall I'd give this place 3-1/2 stars, but with that not being an option I opted for 3.

We also had the following: Cobb Salad (enough for two people) Fish & Chips (with house made chips instead of fries) Patty melt (super juicy) Rodeo Burger (ask for the onion rings on the side instead of on the sandwich) But the one thing I can't wait to try next time is the giant house made pretzel! And the full bar, wine and beer selection is totally aboveboard

We've been struggling to find a great restaurant in Torrington. Somewhere where the service and the…read morefood are excellent and well worth the price- Sasso's exceeded our expectation. We live around the area kept saying to ourselves throughout the night "why haven't we been here before? We've been missing out on such good food" There seems to be a lot of seating both inside and outside so that's a plus since we were able to get seated right away without a reservation on a Friday night. (they were already pretty busy) Our waitress was so friendly and super attentive even with all the tables she had. Now on to the food! Everything was cooked to perfection and beautifully plated. You could tell that whoever is cooking genuinely cares about the food that is coming out of that kitchen. To start we ordered the Spinach Artichoke Dip w/ Garlic Parm Crostini and the Antipasto Salad. (Not pictured) Everything came out in great portions to share and even the crostinis were packed full of flavor which brought the dip up another notch. The salad was fresh, colorful and absolutely delicious. For our entree we both ordered the Steak Frites-cooked medium. Both of our steaks were cooked to perfection and the chimichurri was herby, savory and even had a little bite to it-it was phenomenal. To add to the mix the frites had parm & garlic to make them even tastier To finish, after a very long day- we knew that an affogato would just finish this meal off perfectly and we were right. It was delicious and the candied walnuts were such a nice touch to add for texture. (My husband now has a new favorite dessert) Needless to say we will absolutely be back, and more than likely bringing many others in tow to share an absolutely wonderful meal!

Sasso's has been a family favorite for years, and there's a reason people from all over Connecticut…read moremake the drive. Their appetizers and pizza are legitimately outstanding. The Angry Clams might be one of the best appetizers in the region, and their pizza still delivers every single time. That said, longtime customers can feel the restaurant evolving. Over the last few years, Sasso's has leaned harder into upscale entrees and rotating specials that absolutely look incredible on social media. The presentation is beautiful, the ideas are creative, and the menu clearly aims higher than "pizza place." Unfortunately, some of the entrees don't always land at the same level as the apps and pizza. A few dishes we've tried recently have felt slightly under-seasoned or overcooked considering the premium pricing. The bigger adjustment for us has honestly been the atmosphere and reservation system. Sasso's used to feel like the perfect spontaneous family dinner spot after shopping or being around town. Lately, even with visibly open tables, walk-ins often get turned away because the dining room is reserved out for later seatings. I completely understand the business side of it, but it does change the vibe. It feels less like a casual neighborhood staple and more like a "destination dinner" restaurant now. And with that shift comes pricing. Last night, our family of four spent around $250 without alcohol. We shared wings, Angry Clams, salad, pizza, and a couple mid-range entrees for the boys. That's not outrageous in today's world, but it definitely puts Sasso's into the same conversation as some of the more traditional upscale Italian spots nearby. The difference is that those places specialize in elevated entrees, while Sasso's still shines brightest with what made people fall in love with it in the first place: apps and pizza. Service was excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive all night. The kitchen pacing, though, felt rushed and a little disconnected. Clams and salad arrived first, then pizza and entrees hit the table together, followed by the wings afterward. It gave the meal a "turn the table quickly" feeling, even though much of the restaurant was empty by 7 PM Sunday night. All of this said, we'll absolutely keep coming back...just less frequently. We still love Sasso's. We've simply learned that the move is to make the reservation, order the appetizers and pizza, and enjoy the things they truly do better than almost anyone around.
