Okay, this is going to be a sad, brief review. I am not a fan of these chain restaurants and I go to the Torrington location for one thing only. I sit at the bar, the staff is friendly, and I order their appetizer "tater tots" and a glass of wine. Yup. My guilty pleasure. I do notice that they seem to have a core of regulars that are quite content. Sometimes all you need is a friendly face and a crunchy tater tot. That's all folks. read more

It's been a few years since I actually ate at this restaurant. I expect since the pandemic that establishments would make sure things are clean. Upon entering the building the windows of the front doors were so dirty you could barely see through them. It looked as though the clean them with a mop they used for the floors. It smelled musty, and the ladies bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. The tile is coming up, and again mopped with dirty water. Dirty fingerprints lined the bathroom door that entered to the toilet. I will not be returning to this restaurant or ordering takeout. Pretty disgusting experience. read more

I came here for a quick break during my time at Warner Theater for a dance competition, the service was so quick, and the waitress who helped my table was very sweet. I order a medium rare cheeseburger and fries and I was very satisfied with the results. The burger was cooked exactly how I hoped it would be. read more

My husband and I sat at the bar ordered food and drinks, while waiting for the food we step outside to talk because we were having a disagreement and didn't want anyone to hear us. Once outside the manager came out and stated either come pay or he will be calling the police . I stated sure call them because we didn't do anything wrong. We were standing in front of the restaurant away from the entrance. I have never been profiled but it was happening . Mind you my husband phone was at the bar by our drinks . We went back in and paid for our drinks while the manager was apologizing but this should have never happened . We've lived in Torrington ct since 2007 but we will never give 99 another dollar . Kudos to 99 in Torrington for their excellent curb-side takeout during the COVID-19 pandemic. We ordered for a party of three last Saturday night and were extremely happy with the entire process. The food was delicious (I personally highly recommend the hot buttered lobster roll) and we were even given a white paper bag of hot popcorn with a sweet hand-written note on it: "See you soon, 99." We will definitely order again, and thanks, Samantha, for being such a great hostess. read more

This restaurant used to be way better. I grew up going here every Friday with my family but that has changed for a good reason. The menu there is always changing and it seems like they take off the good food and leave the bad. The servers used to be very personable and would get to know you but now everybody there seems like they hate their job. The beer is crazy expensive and the 5 dollar margarita all day every day is LOADED with mixer and barely any alcohol. I just went there for pickup tonight and no one was at the front desk. I stood there for about eight minutes before a waitress walking in the back made eye contact with me and went into the kitchen to tell someone I was upfront. I ordered a French onion soup with no bread and when I opened it they put the cheese in a separate container so I had to peel it out and heat them up together, I don't understand why they did that. I also had a Southwest Fajita steak bowl and the portion was very small, I've had it before and it was not as small as what I got. I know this is a very lengthy review but it upsets me that a restaurant I used to love has gone downhill very fast. read more

Save yourself a trip and drive up to Applebees; this 99 location is not worth your time. I ate once before at a 99 Restaurant in Massachusetts and it was actually not bad. Unfortunately, this location is just terrible. I went around 2pm and the place was pretty dead. The young man who seated us was very kind and friendly. Our waitress on the other hand was rude and extremely pushy. We sat down and before we opened the menu she came for our drink order and asked if we were ready to order our meal. We gave her what we wanted to drink but told her we needed some time to look over the menu. She gave us about a minute before returning and asking for our order, at this time I just made it to the middle of the menu, and we asked again for some more time. She came up a third time and feeling rushed we decided to just order. I ordered the prime rib. Well I tried to order it. The waitress informed me that they did not have prime rib and only served it on Thursdays. I thought this was weird since I didn't read anything about it in the menu. I let my mother order while a frantically looked for something else to order. I ended up ordering the country fried chicken and the waitress rudely corrected me on the name. I felt a bit attacked by her and then she laughed at me for not saying the name exactly as it was written on the menu. The complimentary pop corn was extremely salty and made you want to continuously drink your beverage. My mom ordered the mango ice tea and she found a straw wrapper inside her drink. Disgusted, she stopped drinking and decided to not order another drink. It made me question what was in my dark colored root beer. We received our food and it was not so great. It was bland and looked reheated. My mom asked for no coleslaw and she still received it. She never received her side of veggie that she ordered. Everything just looked thrown together on the plate and since there were not many other parties in the restaurant there is no reason for such laziness. We were also seated in front of the kitchen between the two door ways. Constantly we could hear the employee's conversations including the waitress who was assigned to our table. They were gossiping about the parties they were serving and how a couple tipped poorly. Honestly, it made me think "Hey, if you're getting a poor tip maybe you should look at the quality of service you are providing." Our waitress was constantly walking back and forth between the kitchen door ways to look at us and im assuming other tables. I felt like I was being hovered over and rushed. Like I needed to hurry up and order, scarf down my meal, tip her big then get the hell out of the restaurant. To say the least I will not be back to this restaurant. I'd rather go get some fast food through a drive thru. At least I'll know I'll get a friendly server from the Wendy's. read more

The 99 in general is a bit too salty for me. I'm not sure why they feel the need to overly salt all of their foods, but whatever. The waitstaff was very nice and friendly and the food was good. The wait itself wasn't very long at all. read more

First time in a 99. Pleasantly surprised. Just had a great meal, a new garlic steak special for 12.95. As you might expect from the price, the steak was not huge, but it was tender and tasty. The place was clean, warm, and the service was especially good (the waitress's name was Tricia). For an inexpensive meal in a nice setting, I'd go back in a heartbeat. read more

We've been pretty happy with The 99, since they replaced Red Lobster. Lately though, the place has been showing a lack of maintenance and care. On our last trip there, both my wife and noted that the bathrooms were looking beat-up, with peeling wallpaper, broken cabinets, one working soap dispenser and empty paper-towel dispensers. After that, we started to notice that a lot of the wall decorations were laden with dust and cobwebs. I doesn't take much of a leap to wonder what the kitchen looks like if the rest of the facility is being so poorly looked after. Our server was great, attentive, and comped us on a dessert when one of our entrees wasn't up to snuff. I place the problems we saw, squarely on poor management, there is no reason why this restaurant needs to be falling apart, it's not that old. read more

I had an absolutely horrible experience here! The bartender, her name was Michelle I believe, was extremely rude was complaining how she didn't want to be at work and I could overhear her gossiping about her co workers! I had steak tips/chicken tenders with loaded mashed potatoes. The steak was not cooked how I wanted it and the potatoes where cold with a few strings of cold cheese n a couple pieces of fatty old bacon. I will never return to this establishment. It's said that not just the bar tender but every one else seemed so miserable probably because of her being rude n complaining about making there drinks ya know cause that's not her job!!! I have never been a fan of 99's because it reminds me of Chucky Cheese. Not because of the restaurant but because there are usually a lot of kids having too good of a time. My Son straightened me out by sitting at the bar. Much better. Other than that its pretty standard chain fair. Nothing to complain about , but nothing to get excited about either. read more

Trust me.... this place IS NOT getting bad ratings because it replaced Red Lobster. First of all, Red Lobster kind of sucks to begin with! However, it was the only half-decent seafood restaurant in Torrington. Now this place, on the other hand, is plain awful. Never in my entire life have I see a place fail so badly at making simple NACHOS. I am almost certain that my nachos were not only made with cheese that had gone south, but also that they were microwaved. A BIG no-no at any restaurant in my opinion. This is precisely the reason I no longer like Olive Garden because more and more of their food is microwaved as well. But let's move on. Waitress took about 25 minutes to order our drinks, and said "I'll take your order for appetizers when I come back with your drinks. 15 minutes later we get our drinks, then the waitress says "I'll be back to take your order." Another 20 minutes goes by and she comes and orders our appetizers... we tell her we're ready to order our meal as well. She proceeds to give us a dirty look and then takes our order. Our appetizers (one of which was the nasty nachos I already mentioned) came about 30 minutes later. They all were sub-par but none as bad as the nachos. Entrees came another 30 minutes later and they were a total joke. I am telling you, even McDonalds produces better quality food. There was 3 pieces of hair in my friend's food and one in my soda. We didn't bother with desserts. We demanded a 50% discount and that was the only thing that took less than 15 minutes for the waitress to do. We were there for over 3 hours! In that time there was a total of 10 tables that came in, but only 2 were already there when we arrived. In otherwords it took this and one other waitress over 3 hours to serve 14 tables. I could have personally done that in less than 90 minutes with one hand tied behind my back. Terrible service, terrible food. THIS is why I can see why locals are disgruntled at the loss of Red Lobster... it has nothing to do with the loss, it has everything to do with what replaced it. I think they would have been happier and better served with a stripper bar... I really wish I was being sarcastic there. read more

Solid. And I mean that more in the more the respect that you know what you're getting. You're getting a good meal in a relaxed atmosphere with average service. With that said, the food is good. As any other chain restaurant goes, you have a wide variety of choices. I had a burger and must say that I'm not happy with any restaurant that won't allow you to order your burger cooked less than medium. That typically means they allow their meat to sit around longer or use a lower grade meat. Otherwise it was great. From the free popcorn to the relaxed atmosphere to the large beers, I'm a fan. Better than the Applebees up the street when it comes to a normal dinner, but far from the best option in a town otherwise starved for good options. read more

The suggestion by Preston P. that people should trek up to Applebee's rather than dining at 99 is bizarre at best. I've always found their food to be of great quality. It's always been cooked to my request and the staff has always been professional and accommodating. Remember, this is a chain restaurant. You're just not going to get the little touches you would find in a family run or smaller chain of steakhouses. 99 is always a good choice. I have had so many bad experiences at the Torrington Applebees, I couldn't even begin to count them. On one occasion the kitchen failed to take the various elements of my meal out of the portion control bags before putting them in the ToGo carton. Can there be anything less appetizing than having your mashed potatoes, gravy and vegetables presented to you in individual plastic bags. I can go to the supermarket and get my food that way. I've had French Dip Sliders given to me without the "dip". Not a problem if you're in the restaurant, but a BIG problem if you've found out after taking your meal home. Food has been ice cold, under-cooked and just plain unpalatable. I've given this restaurant soooo many chances. It's just not worth it. read more

We were looking forward to the "New 99's" after their recent redecorating. We are SO DISAPPOINTED in their new Sports Bar look. They took away half of the seating in the lobby and everyone was forced to stand around waiting for their table. This may be ok for the younger crowd, but in case you haven't noticed 99's - there are a lot of older people there on Friday, Saturday and Sunday especially when Warner's is having a program. REALLY BAD MOVE 99'S. The food was fair--as usual. Looks like we will be looking for another favorite place to go. read more

Service was good the food was ok except for my steak. Ordered it medium rare came out still moving. Sent it back and they returned it still purple inside. Not the center. All purple when you cut it. Sent it back and the manager came out asked me "how would you like your steak cooked"? I say medium rare. His response was "you can't get a steak cooked that way because it's a think piece". How the hell is the manage of a restaurant gonna tell me I can't get a 12oz sirloin steak cooked the way I want it? Ridiculous. read more

I used to love 99 (ok I still do) - they closed down the Waterbury location by me, so this is the closest one that I can get to in less then 20 minutes. I've been to this location a handful of times. The service is so so. Sometimes I have gotten a friendly waiter, sometimes not. But I will agree with everybody that 99 as a whole has given less and less food for a more expensive price. I usually go with the chicken broccoli ziti (sometimes I switch it up) and years ago I wouldn't have been able to put a dent in it, because the portions were huge. Cut to now, and the portions my 2 year old niece could eat and finish. I don't know what's up with that. Everytime I've come into this location as well, they have given us the popcorn from the bottom of the barrel, it's almost as if they never cook more. I did have one bad food experience here and it's when they introduced the "lobster rolls". I LOVE lobster (hello, we live in New England!) and this was a 2/10 at best. The roll was SO drenched in butter it was almost unedible, and I don't think they used real lobster, I think it was imitation. So now I strictly stick with the pasta unless I know a history of their seafood making skills. It's great if there is nothing else open, but if you have choices I wouldn't stop. read more

First of all....one has to remember that this is a chain. So don't expect fine dining. But if you're looking for a place that's great for the family, this would be a good choice. An endless bowl of popcorn is served when you first sit down.....and kids eat free when the Boston Red Sox win!. The menu is extensive and surprisingly, the roast beef is more than adequate. You can get as many refills of your drinks on the house. The wait staff is very accommodating. So if you're interested in taking the family out to eat...but not to dine...try 99! read more

So, new restaurant, the waitresses are still eager to help, The drinks are fairly expensive, but the food is exceptional at cheap prices. good family place, nice bar area too, it got a little rowdy at one point while I was there, but only cuz some guy was singing. Some of the booths are a little tight, but comfy. Great service though, try it out! read more

I ordered the Iceberg Wedge which normally comes with blue cheese dressing & blue cheese crumbles. When I placed the order, I informed the server that I am allergic to blue cheese and asked them to substitute with ranch & cheddar instead. They proceeded to CHARGE me EXTRA for the cheddar, and then only put a sprinkle of cheese on it! Are you kidding me?! You just lost a customer. read more

I stumbled in here several weeks ago and was delighted and surprised. Huge place, lots of seating, a huge menu, lots to choose from, and the food is fresh FRESH, not what you'd expect. I recall I had a great entree salad, which I'd definitely have again. Keep it on your list as a reasonable easy place with lots of delicious meals to choose from. And yes as other reviews post, the staff is very friendly and accomodating. Thumbs UP! read more

I didn't go there with high hopes, but for a budget type restaurant, it's actually quite good. Service was friendly and fast. The food was good quality and a good value for what we got. My husband had an entree salad. My mother had fish, and I had chicken tips. They didn't mind us asking for substitute side dishes. I would probably give it another half a star if I could I can't quite give it a 4, but given that the one other time I ate in a 99, I didn't care for it, I'd say this is probably one of the beter locations for this chain. read more
