This is the third time eating at this Wayback location and I won't be back. I'll start with the positives because there were so few. The restaurant is clean and plenty of parking. Prices are not bad compared to other places. Lastly the service was quick and using the on-line system is very easy. Now the negatives. While being clean and modern is nice, those color scheme is bad. Way too dark and feels cold. I ordered 4 tenders for $8. Not seasoned, small and sour because they used old tired oil. The sauce was good but it should not carry the whole taste. It was warm tho, so props there. The chili cheese tots were a mess. Again very bland, I could not taste the cheese or chili. The tots were mushy and formed a patty shape where I could not distinguish tot from tot. The burgers were some of the most boring I have had. Both were double patty, one with raw onions (14 tiny pieces, I counted) one thin tomato slice and one leaf of lettuce. Bland, boring and forgettable. The other, for my mom, had grilled canned mushrooms and grilled tiny onion pieces. The meat tasted like it's from frozen patties. No salt on anything, couldn't taste the cheese, small sizes, just sad and disappointing. I really wanted to like this place but I'm done with them. Too bad. read more

Wildly overpriced! They charge $6.99 just to add fries and a drink to your meal -- for a medium fries and drink! Insane upcharge for what should be a basic combo. The food itself is okay but definitely not worth what you end up paying. There are better burger spots around with more reasonable prices. read more

Best burger evah!!! Never had burgers this good before! Thick and juicy beef, and the buns are freshly baked! Liked ordering on their app too which was super easy. Very friendly staff! We'll definitely be back! Can't wait to use the coupons they're sending to my phone! LOL read more

I been to this location a few times for burgers, but not recently (honestly, I can make a better tasting burger at home on my little hibachi grill). I saw an advertisement for their chicken tenders, so I decided to give them a try the other day for lunch. But, as often is the case, the pictures for Fast Food products look WAY BETTER than the actual thing. Ugh, the meat had the consistency of rubber. Just plain bad. If I wasn't in a rush to get back to work, I would've brought those chicken tenders back for a refund. I threw most of it away. Place looked dingy also, while I was waiting for my order. Needless to say, I won't be back. Ever. read more

My husband and I ate at Wayback Burgers on 04/24/2025 and had a great experience! He had a burger and fries and I had a cheeseburger and fries. The burgers were so juicy and delicious, and the fries hit the spot as well. Friendly service, too. We highly recommend! P.S. The restaurant was nice and clean. read more

My first experience with this chain in the Aldi's strip mall was not memorable. Ambiance is lacking unless you enjoy staring at a parking lot. Service was fine since we were basically the only customers. The classic came naked -- no side seems chintzy. The jumbo Poland water cost almost as much as the burger. While the burger was fine, it's not enough to tempt me to return. read more

I wasn't aware this was a chain when we rolled up, I assumed it was just a local place with strong branding. It was a pleasant surprise to find out there are more of these closer to home because our meals were awesome! First off the whole place looks odd because of social distancing. The tables are set up to block off half the floor for employees to move about and keep a barrier between us and them. There are disposable menus on a table for us to look at and a few barstools to sit and wait. We ordered the signature burgers, fries, and chili cheese fries. Amazing! Burger was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. Sadly, for being directly off the grill and enjoyed not five minutes after getting out order, the burgers were already lukewarm. The fries had that perfect fry texture, which complimented the chili and cheese wonderfully. The staff was limited so service was a bit slow, but hey, we were just happy the place was open. The reason I give four stars is because the pricing was very inconsistent. The disposable menus, posted menus, and prices we were told were all different, and we did not receive an itemized receipt where we could check, even though we asked. I would definitely revisit this place, but next time, I'll choose the one a bit closer to home. read more

Oh my God this was awful. I ordered a chicken sandwich and onion rings. The chicken was really fatty and stringy. I was spitting out mouthfuls of fat. The onion rings were so greasy I couldn't even eat them. It's just about the worst meal I've ever had. And on top of it all it was $13. I had to throw it away. You're better off going anywhere else but here, save your time and money as well as your intestines. read more

Now that Jake's has been open nearly a year and I've been here tons of times, it's time to revise my review. The wait is still usually annoying, but the burgers are fresh cooked. Order on the website if you're in a hurry, then laugh at suckers in line. Burgers of the month are hit or miss, Philly Cheesesteak was my favorite. Skip the plain fries...chilli cheese fries are good, but the plain are crap. Get house made chips or onion rings instead. Phenomenal. The onion rings are HUGE. If the BoM doesn't impress me, I get Jake Burger w/ Cheese and bacon. Do not come in here expecting Five Guys. Just expect an awesome fresh cooked burger that curbstomps fast food. I've still yet to have a milkshake. A recent addition is beer on tap: Bud and Bud Light (meh) and CT's own brew with Hooker beer. Beer is reasonably priced: 2.50 domestic, 3.50 craft. read more

Wayback Burgers - My "bacon cheese ranch fries" ....... - Burgers Near Me - Torrington, Connecticut

I moved here six months ago and went into Wayback Burger in Torrington. While I was ordering, I asked for a small cup so I can grab some water. I was informed that I would have to buy a regular cup as though I was buying a soda so that I can get water. So I spent my almost $16 to buy food. As I was sitting and waiting for my order, a gentleman walks in and the girl automatically gave him a small cup for water. He was obviously a regular. I made a fuss, and spoke to the manager. He basically fought me over his policy. Now six months later I have not spent a dime and every time I drive by I give them a hardy FU. I thought people should know about this policy. Wayback corporate should know that the cup worth 2 cents has cost them a few hundred dollars and this wonderful review. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for over 2 years today was my chance. If you like 5 guy's then you will like this place and less expensive, I ordered the Cheesy Cheeseburger added bacon and grilled onions the bun wasn't even a bun it was like how you make grilled cheese tasted so great. Boyfriend ordered a Classic Cheeseburger and it was great he said we also got 2 large fries and thank you so much for not over salting them like some places do, pretzel bites were amazing just wish we had the option to dunk them in cheddar cheese and Milk Shakes. I ordered the Oreo Mud slide with malt and the man got Chocolate Banana with malt, he preferred mine over his though I tried his and it wasn't bad the banana dominated the chocolate but wasn't bad at all, I haven't finished my fries I am so stuffed. We will be back read more

Food- 3 stars Service -2 stars Stopped by for a Sunday lunch today- popped in 12:30 or so. Walked right up to the counter to order. The lady on the register didn't really have a strong command of the English language. I ordered a soft drink and an entree sized salad (issue one- there are 2 salad sizes, and that concept seemed perplexing to her) with a turkey burger patty ($6.58) (perplexing issue #2). My wife ordered a Turkey Burger ($4.59) which also seemed to throw our friend at the register. Most of the tables were taken, we found one small table for 2 which suited our needs. You sit down first, without the food, them the servers call your name and bring it to your table. It took a while for the food to come out. The first item served to us was a small banana shake ($2.89) but "served" isn't really the right word - it was just sort of plopped down on the table with a "thwack" sound by a very unpleasant young lady. Most of the help there seemed miserable, except a very nice young man (probably the manager) who seemed on the ball. The burger was fine, the salad was good. The overall experience?? so-so . The meal cost us $17 - just didn't seem to be a very good value. read more

A far cry from McDonald's, and a nice alternative. The Cheesey Burger was delicious, full of cheese as promised, although very greasy and juicy. I finally settled for holding a napkin under the burger as I ate to protect my shirt. My two dining companions each had an order of fries, one complained they were too cold and the other too soggy. They also seemed pretty unseasoned, which I liked because you can customize your salt intake. The building was clean with a discount retro-vibe, and even though people kept coming in and out no one seemed to be waiting long. read more

I have no idea how people can complain about the prices at Carl's Wayback. The food is worth every penny. My advice, if you think you're paying too much for say, the best friend chicken sandwich outside of Popeye's in the land (superb coating, terrific chipotle mayo) then save $2 the day before by not playing a video game and get in there to ENJOY this puppy. Burgers always fresh and savoury. The tater tots? I used to hate tots. I love Carl's tots' crispiness. Oil fresh. Service is delightful. I have no idea why Wayback hasn't been noticed by foodies yet. We've been regular customers for years, and we have no plans to change that! read more

I never expect much from a fast food joint. But I'd rather have Jakes than some of the cheaper options. I've been to a few different locations multiple times but have been to this location the most. We have ordered here consistently for a couple years now. The food here does not taste as good as other locations but it's decent. And EVERY time they either forget something or mess up the order. Even the milkshake flavors are never what you ask for. We just keep coming back out of convenience. But it's way past the point of irritating. If it wasn't for that it'd be an average 3 stars. read more

WAYtoo expensive. 14.99 for a double cheese with bacon small chili fries and a regular soda. The burgers are a simple simple frozen party and the bacon is about as thin as a piece of paper. This is not the shake shack. One last thing the restaurant is freezing turn on the heat. read more

I love this place. I have been here many times. I put it second behind G's in Watertown and above Five Guys. The fries are average but the burgers are awesome. Okay, to the detractors; where else can you get a burger and a beer this fast? This reminds me of the McD's in Germany. The burger and shake of the month thing is a great idea. Update- This place seems to either be under new ownership or management and I must say, the two people that are consistently in there running the place are nothing but top notch. Not only is their customer care and service above and beyond, they seem to be genuinely nice people. They are very attentive, pay attention to detail and I've never had my order messed up since the change. Along with this, they truly put their food out with care and not just throwing it together to move on to the next order. I highly recommend you stopping in under these new people, you won't be disappointed Food is good but my review is only on their customer service. For starters, every time I go in there, unless the manager Barbra is working, the employees are clueless and careless and the order is sure to be messed up. Pretty sad that I feel the need to check my order before I leave Now to the good stuff. So I go in on a Sunday night at 8:40 in which they are open until 9. I get to the counter and greeted by an employee who proceeds to tell me they are all out of hamburger........ That's right, a hamburger place all out of burger Anyway, you could clearly tell that they had already turned of their grill and cleaned it for the night as I'm guessing they weren't that busy prior to me The bigger slap in the face was them locking the door minutes after I left when the posted closing time isn't until 9 pm I will definitely be thinking twice before ever returning So I have to say, after my review I was immediately contacted by the establishment. They were very concerned with my issues and strongly stressed that they would be dealing with their personnel Nice knowing there is someone behind the scenes who cares about their business and takes pride in not only their product but their customer service as well. As a token for my bad experience, I was offered a certificate for a free meal in which I never used because that's not what any of this was ever about, I don't need or expect a handout I can say I've been back many times since and haven't had an issue since read more

What we didn't know, until we went inside was that Jake's is actually a chain burger place, but neither my boyfriend or I had seen another one before. There are lots of great burger places in Connecticut, unfortunately, Jake's is not among them. It's basically a step up from McDonalds or Burger King. Our burgers were greasy and completely mediocre. Really, I'd say beware of any restaurant that offers American 'cheese' as their default. They also have a bizarre operation going on with the shakes. They have a 'shake of the month' --- but it's not anything different from their regularly available shakes; apparently they just choose one of those as the 'special'. The service was friendly and prompt though, and they did have turkey burgers, which was nice. read more

Went here after hearing about a wayback burger in Hollywood, CA. Order was accurately filled and the food was good. They even have a kids grilled cheese which is becoming a rarity. I'd give it five stars if it weren't for the price. I can spend $11-12 just for myself with no drink. But the hamburgers are delicious and fresh. It's not a McDonalds or Burger King. They are juicy and Perfectly cooked! The only disappointment besides their prices is that they don't have cheddar cheese. That would be a great option not just for taste but for the lactose intolerant people (cheddar has no lactose in it). Taste is 5 stars!! Sounds crazy for just a burger place- but they really are THAT good! And they serve beer and wine here and have a patio outside! read more

First time for me at Jakes. The friendliness of the wait staff was great as I walked in. Very helpful with explaining the menu and how Jakes does what it does. The wait wasn't long considering they make the food to order. I had their signature burger. It was done perfectly and tasted better than any other burgers close by. It's almost like the burgers I had when I was a kid. I understand Jakes has an application in to open another location in Avon, Connecticut. I'll be looking forward to that. Classic burgers- hot dogs- veggie and turkey burgers too- salad options- milkshakes super thick and good!

If you have been to a 5 Guys, this is pretty similar. Its a step up from McDonalds or Burger King. I prefer it over 5 Guys. Their burgers are very tastey with a buttery bun. The fries are seasoned and delicious and the onion rings are real onion. They have about a dozen flavors of milk shake and are very good. They bring your food to you which is a nice change. read more
