I have heard so much about Oh K-Dog and I was dying to try out. Firstly, there's more to the menu than the K-Dogs themselves. There's definitely an array of variations to choose from and a few sauces to complement it. They also serve toasted sandwiches that are great for every hour of the day. They also have an ever favorite Tteokbokki which I had been missing for a while. The place was clean however I was disappointed about the plants. It's either have it, or don't. It shows how much effort was placed about the plants and it makes me wonder how much effort was placed into my food. I'm sure they take care of the kitchen well since it's the means the business. The dying plants sends off the wrong vibe and definitely not aesthetically pleasing especially in the current growth in social media platforms looking for that IG worthy shot. The service was great. I had to basically be in and out of New Haven tonight as I don't have much time between train and bus to begin with, but should I come back in the future when I have more time I will take photos. But after looking at earlier Taichi Tea reviews that day and finding a reviewer who reviewed both that place and this one, I knew this place needed my visit at some point. Also, I had to wait till tonight to come in big part because I had been on medical recovery from a stomach infection since last month, so I wanted to make sure I was feeling better first so I could give this place the best chance possible to excel. Tonight was actually my 3rd time ordering through the Yelp app, but the other 2 times had mixed results. One place confirmed my order while the other canceled twice, so this order was also a test to see if ordering through Yelp was reliable or not. Through God's good graces, this was a success! Service from the employees there was pretty friendly to boot too. So far so good! Now let's get into my order. I ordered three dogs (the Classic, the Mozzarella Cheddar, and then the Squid Ink half and half). All told, I paid $24.77, and that amount includes a $6.55 tip. So yes, this place is actually quite affordable in New Haven! And boy oh BOY are these three worth it! Before I continue, I will remark another dog with the potato crusting done on it. That looked pretty gas (is that a term kids use these days?). I started with the Squid Ink, and honestly, what they did with that thing is genius! The breading is black as squid ink should be, and the hot dog portion at the bottom is crated in such a way to resemble a squid's tentacles (sorry Squidward). It was fire! For the classic, I dipped that in honey mustard, one of my favorite condiments to have on any hot dog. It was pretty good too. And the mozzarella cheddar finished it off! All three were really good! You place your order at the register then you can either hop in line to the left or just wait to hear your number called. My friend and I ordered the sweet potato and mozzarella, not realizing there was no dog in it, we kept biting into the crunchy, cinnamon dusted dough only to find mozzarella until we realized our mistake . Been wanting to try this place forever if only for the tie to the legendary LA punk rock hangout Oki Dogs. Came one night while my wife was in the hospital at Yale for dinner. Heard this new place was opening up - had been waiting for a good Korean corn dog place to pop up (most found around big cities but none in CT). Came during the weekday and it was still bustling and packed!! Luckily the queue went by quick but the orders did take some time to come out (I noticed they had only a few workers who were handling all of the customers). The restaurant has both standing table/bar area, and sit down tables though only a few tables (4 tables) that quickly fill up bc of how busy they get. If you are not familiar with Korean corn dogs, they are not your typical corn dogs from your local fair. They offer a variety of menu option - none of which you will get a regular hot dog sausage with. You can pick your choice of cheese filling, sausage, half sausage half cheese, etc. Then there is a many different breading types - potato, regular, sweet potato or squid ink. After you can choose the toppings - sugar or regular. They have a little sauce bar in the back (sometimes if you get lucky, they will offer a selection of Kpop albums for free (I'm guessing a local patron had given away some of their treasures)). We chose to go with the potato mozzarella dog, the regular rice cake dog, and a squid ink sausage dog. We also decided to try the ham and cheese toast sandwich and 2 slushees - lemonade and peach. I loved my mozzarella cheese corn dog - when it came out fresh, it was delicious and soft and crunchy. Imagine the cheese pulls! The ricecake I would skip bc it is just a rice cake that had been wrapped in bread - very carb loaded. The squid ink dog tasted like a regular corn dog, the squid ink could be barely tasted or noticeable. The hand egg and cheese sandwich was delicious - it reminds me on the cheese and ham McMuffin from McDonald's but ten times better and bigger. The bread the sandwich it comes with is thick and soft, and a little sweet. The slushees were very very sweet - if you enjoy that, they are great! Otherwise I would be aware. Personally the peach slushee tastes exactly like a peach ring candy in drink form, and the lemonade like the lemons head candies. I did notice that if you wait to eat your corndogs, they might not taste as great bc the corndogs will not be as soft or crunchy, but instead hardened.
