    Chicago Dog

We absolutely love eating here. Jake is awesome, super friendly, and always grateful for our business. His foot-long dogs are longer than just about anyone else's, and are very reasonably priced. We love the Chicago dog, the rings in the french fries.

After devouring pizza and alcohol at the Colony Grill, my bff, Pots & Pans, and I decided to try Jake's for dessert. Jake's is walking distance from the CG. Plenty of free parking in the municipal lot. Choices are almost endless, but we each had our old standby - deli mustard and sauerkraut. The dogs are Hebrew National. They are grilled, as are the buns. The owner mentioned that they are consistently voted the top hot dog in the area. We agree that they are excellent. Two reasons for the less than 5-star review. First, not cheap. Over $4 (w tax) for one dog. Second, our "foot long" dogs were probably about 8 inches. Now, Pots knows a lot about shrinkage, but no dog shrinks that much during cooking

The service was quick and friendly! I ordered The Mac and an order of fries and both were delicious. The fries had excellent texture and a great crunch! The Mac was still hot thanks to great packaging after my 20 minute walk home! I love the outdoor seating and I will definitely be back at another time to enjoy the ambiance of downtown while enjoying delicious food.

If you read my reviews enough, you eventually realize i'm just joking. But not when I'm in New Haven. When I'm in New Haven, I'm just Jaking. But I won't be able to Jake around anymore :( My favorite Mochi store in New Haven was here (sob) and my favorite Hot Dog store too... they were both in the same location (sob sob) and they both vanished on me (sob sob sob). One minute I was heading over there, enjoying their products immensely as always, and the next minute they were gone and lost forever, like so many other great places. It's nothing short of a tragedy, and I mourn their loss and the great hot dogs they once served. F*** corporate America for making about 40% of my favourite locally owned restaurants, boba shops and snack places across America close down in the last 15 years. F*** everyone that likes the corporate side of America, or of the world.

I have tried many a hotdog glizzy in my life and I had to say Jakes Diggity Dogs hotdog was worth every cent! I ordered a foot long hot dog and it was incredible! The flavor and the bread perfectly toasted. Must try! Thanks Jake and for being so welcoming!

Always love Jake's Diggity Dogs just as good in the milford location as they were in new haven. I love this cute spot. I always play it safe and get a pretty basic dog. But oneday ill work up the courage to venture from the long creative menu

First time at Jake's at their new location in Milford. As hotdogs go, Jake says five stars all the way. From the Mac dog to the Chicago to the New Yorker or build your own, I can't say enough positive things about the hot properly cooked dog and the luscious bun that cradles the dog and all of the toppings. A few small nets: slightly too much mustard on my New Yorker overpowered the sauerkraut and red onion sauce. Also, Jake's claims not to have indoor dining despite the presence of plenty of room, tables and chairs. It is not clear to me why Jake's does not have indoor dining and the absence of the indoor dining limits to take away or tiny tables outdoors. Everywhere else has outdoor dining.

The Mex and the all American

Came here on a whim while passing through the area and the hot dogs were really good. The toppings are definitely a step above in terms of the amount of choices you get. We decided on the all American and the Mex. The relish was a little too sweet for my taste, but other than that, everything was great. My husband even wanted to go back for another after walking around town for a bit. We'll be back for sure if we find ourselves in the area again.

    Chicken Philly Dog

Solid place to get a gourmet hotdog. Stopped in one day after work and ordered a chicken Philly dog with fries. Fries were nicely cooked, not over greasy and a generous portion for a small. Priced right. The hotdog was fantastic. Loaded with cheese and chicken, cooked perfectly with a nice crisp to some of the edges. One hotdog would make a meal and with fries I was more than full. Hotdogs are definitely quality, no filler garbage. The bun was fresh, no staleness to it at all. Service was fast, friendly, and had plenty of PPE in place for Covid. Have been there before and will definitely be back. Can't wait until they're open late again.

    Veggie hot dog to go.

My husband decided to try this place, as he loves hot dogs despite my warnings about food additives and blah blah. Well, this is a different kind of hot dog! He takes what opportunity he gets to go to Super Duper Weenie! And I can't even fault him. The ingredients are wholesome, the production is perfect, and the atmosphere/ vibe is genuine. What a delight to cozy up to the kitchen and talk with the Celebrated Chef-Owner Gary & his Team; also to connect with "The Regulars", who adore this unique place! My indulgence is a small of the French Fries, and also the weekly variety of house made Clam Chowder. Who knew there are THREE kinds? Nothing to run for though. I got the Dixie dog $7 which was underwhelming the chili was mid at best and the slaw wasn't even average. The Hot dog had no bite despite being cooked on a griddle. The highlight was the Rhode Island clam chowder and it wasn't the greatest. Plenty of clams but very chewy. The broth was flavored but not exactly the best. This place used to be on Guy's Diner drive in and dives but it has fallen from those standards. Staff seem to have changed as well since those days. The cashier was amazing but that's were the amazement ends. Went in around 3 o'clock, food came out fast. A plus, but let down in quality. Guess some places can't hold the standards they started with.

But then what about coming here if I was in such a hurry? Well, I actually learned of this place's existence when I was going to do the Taichi Tea Elite Experience only to find that I had never been confirmed in that event. But after looking at earlier Taichi Tea reviews that day and finding a reviewer who reviewed both that place and this one, I knew this place needed my visit at some point. Also, I had to wait till tonight to come in big part because I had been on medical recovery from a stomach infection since last month, so I wanted to make sure I was feeling better first so I could give this place the best chance possible to excel. Tonight was actually my 3rd time ordering through the Yelp app, but the other 2 times had mixed results. One place confirmed my order while the other canceled twice, so this order was also a test to see if ordering through Yelp was reliable or not. Through God's good graces, this was a success! Service from the employees there was pretty friendly to boot too. So far so good! Now let's get into my order. I ordered three dogs (the Classic, the Mozzarella Cheddar, and then the Squid Ink half and half). All told, I paid $24.77, and that amount includes a $6.55 tip. So yes, this place is actually quite affordable in New Haven! And boy oh BOY are these three worth it! Before I continue, I will remark another dog with the potato crusting done on it. That looked pretty gas (is that a term kids use these days?). I started with the Squid Ink, and honestly, what they did with that thing is genius! The breading is black as squid ink should be, and the hot dog portion at the bottom is crated in such a way to resemble a squid's tentacles (sorry Squidward). It was fire! For the classic, I dipped that in honey mustard, one of my favorite condiments to have on any hot dog. It was pretty good too. And the mozzarella cheddar finished it off! All three were really good! If I had to pick my favorite, I'd say the Squid Ink dog is definitely the winner of the night. I just can't get over how awesome that creativity was. It was more than an "Oh K-Dog". It was an "Oh My God, These Dogs Rule" K-Dogs! I said what I said. Good night everybody!

Atmosphere/Appearance: No frills. Straightforward comfort food spot. TVs on the wall, black wooden paneling, some beat-up booths, bright-lighting and loud music. Lol. You're here for the food, nothing else. Service: You go up to the counter to order your food then it's brought out to you so nothing crazy, but very simple. Food: I got to sample quite a few things here, so let's go through them, but first I just want to let y'all know that this is a B.Y.O.B. spot! Woo! The O.G. Mac Dog: It's macaroni & cheese, bacon, jalapenos on an all-beef hot dog. There were so many different hot dogs to choose from, but I had to go with the original. This was SO FLAVORFUL. It tasted like a Nathan's dog, (but is actually a Hormel's dog), but altogether it was fantastic. The mac & cheese was creamy, the bacon was crispy and the jalapenos added just a hint of spice and a little acid. This would be the perfect thing to sober you up after a day/night of partying. Sweet Potato Fries: These were cool. They were crispy and very simple. They could use a bit more salt, but it was all good. Onion Rings: These didn't look like they were made here and that's fine. It's like I've seen these before at other restaurants and that's okay. Restaurants get stuff from the same suppliers so it saves them time. Moving on... Lemon Pepper Wings: These were a dry rub and the wings were crispy. These were very lemon-y and I liked that compared to them being too salty. The flavors were balanced very well. Garlic Parmesan Wings: These were delicious. The ingredients were caked on and that's always a good sign. It was creamy and the parmesan was a bit stronger than the garlic. It tasted like there was some extra hidden ingredients like a ranch or something that was in there, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I wish there was a bit more balance there, but it's all good. I liked them. Sweet Chili: These were not your traditional "sweet chili" wings. They had a Buffalo flavor aspect that I really enjoyed and I was literally licking my fingers after eating these! Jordan's Glaze: Another delicious flavor. The wings were excellent. There was a good hoisin flavor here that presented itself up front which gave a sweet, salty, umami flavor and was well-balanced. Philly Cheesesteak: On their cheesesteak is sliced sirloin, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, jalapenos and cheese wiz. The bun was nice and soft. It was executed so well. The Maillard reaction on the little bits of steak added an extra touch that I really enjoyed. Though.. the sandwich as an entirety was a bit salty. Banana Pudding: This was really good, but comparing it to the best I've ever had (Magnolia Bakery), but this was EXCELLENT. The wafers were soft, but I was just hoping for a little more banana. Strawberry Banana Pudding: Everything mentioned above, but a little more exotic with the bold strawberry flavors. Really, really good. Value: The food is cheap, but doesn't necessarily taste like it. You won't blow your budget here and that's kinda the point. Without all the frills and overhead, Jordan's is allowed to bring you comfort foods and they can solely focus on the flavors. In conclusion, I loved it here. The food will stick to your ribs. Lol. But visit here in moderation. There's a reason they've been here for so long and I'm so happy I got the chance to check them out.
