Stopped by the Glenwood Drive-In for a quick bite to eat after a recommendation in the area. This is your typical drive-in spot down the street from Quinnipiac. Good amount of parking and its smooth well oiled machine in terms of ordering, place has been around over 65 years. I went with the chili-cheese dog, could choose American or nacho, I went with nacho and an order of "Frings." Frings must be the locals term, it's an order half onion rings, half fries. They also have a nice condiment bar on the side with some hot pepper relish among others. Plenty of booths inside or side counters to sit and eat at. Chili-cheese dog was great, no shortage in terms of size, wish the chili had a kick to it, but still good, great toasted bun. The Frings were also enjoyable, quality onion ring that didn't fall apart upon taking a bite, fries were ok, could've been better. Service was quick and friendly, no complaints. For sure worth checking out.

This is hands down one of the best lobster rolls I've ever had in the state of Connecticut. And I have had a LOT over the last 12 years I have lived here. The proportion of lobster to butter to bun was perfect. The staff were incredibly nice. If I could give them 20 stars I would. So flavorful, and the onion rings were amazing and didn't even need dipping sauce. And I'm from the Midwest and I use condiments on everything so if I say they don't need sauce, that's saying something. So glad my friend brought me here last night and introduced me to them because I'd have never known to visit had she not.

Glenwood has been on my Hot Dog Try List for a while because area friends like it. I recently tried it for the first time. Glenwood grills long Hunmels, so that they have a bit of char and pop. The hot dogs extend off both sides of the bun, which is not my favorite thing, because I like toppings and bun in each bite. Glenwood is not a place with a bunch of specialty dog options that they top for you. They do have a serve yourself condiment bar. The good news is that when you have such a long hot dog, you can actually make two sets of toppings on each half of the hot dog. I topped one half of each dog with mustard and kraut and one half with mustard and relish. All of the toppings were about average. I'm good with standard mustard and relish, but I prefer a hot homemade kraut. The dog itself was good. The bun was fresh. I can see why people like the Glenwood dogs, and Glenwood offers other foods as well. Glenwood has inside and outside seating in an old school hot dog joint setting. There's also an enjoining ice cream shop. 4 Stars

One order of fried shrimp, 2 orders of chicken fingers, buffalo blue cheese sauce, tartar sauce, spicy Cajun bayou sauce

Decided to try something different for dinner. This is a no frills restaurant that touts doing things traditionally. Inside of the establishment was plain, staff was friendly. I got fried shrimp and chicken tenders. The tartar sauce came free, but I also bought two of their special sauces: spicy Cajun bayou sauce and buffalo blue cheese sauce. The chicken and shrimp were tender and juicy, but the breading could've been a bit more flavorful. The sauces, however, elevated things very nicely. The tartar sauce was tangy and delicious. I don't enjoy the flavor of buffalo sauce without blue cheese, so I appreciated that sauce as well. Finally, the bayou sauce was the most impressive. Spicy and savory, it went perfectly with both the chicken and the shrimp. I recommend this sauce the most. Pretty good food overall. I'll definitely be back for more.

A solid chili dog to finish our trek Stop 6 of 6, and we ended up at glenwood to try one of their dogs. The staff were very friendly, the menu is a little limited. They highlight their seafood a lot for a dog place, but the plates covered in tin foil indicated that the seafood was a very popular item. This being our 6th stop for a dog, we split a single chili dog with some onion rings. Food comes out quickly, we take pics and dig in. Onion rings, not great. not salted and the batter not seasoned. you effectively get flour and grease. not very good. The dog, that was really good. A good grill on the bun, chili had a little spice to it, hot dog had a nice snap to the casing. Good hallmarks of a solid dog. Decor is very much a very old school restaurant, but it's well maintained and cleaned. It kinda resembles a very old wendys. but cleaner. A great stop for our last dogs of the day, but not the best. The seafood looks awesome though, so grab a dog and some clam strips!

Small fries and tasteless hot dog

I was in the mood for a couple of hot dogs and someone suggested I try this place. I wish I hadn't. I bought a hot dog and fries and a coke and paid $14.00 for it. The dog was an off brand of some kind and though deep fried it was virtually tasteless. The fries were nothing at all to mention - just barely warm and very few of them - and they cost $4.55!! The coke was fine but I paid $2.55 for a 20 oz. See the pics for a view of the "meal" I had at this vastly overpriced burger joint.

For me this place is pure nostalgia. It's dogs, burgers, fried seafood, and it's unique. I loved hearing the shouts of ONE DOG TWO FRENCH, didn't hear that today but the memory is intact. They've kept it going all these years which is awesome. The kids enjoyed their food, I enjoyed bringing them.

Hotdog and the bun are grilled, and the hotdog has a great snap and is larger than typical. It was a little greasy and hard to taste any of the toppings, though.

Jordan's Hot Dogs & Mac - Tijuana Double Dog ($13.99) -- not worth it

(Last visited in September of 2023.) Hanging out in New Haven, CT after doing some day-drinkin' and…read moreit's time to soak up the alcohol before we head back home so we stopped into Jordan's Hot Dogs & Mac who have been around for over a decade to see what it's hittin' for! Atmosphere/Appearance: No frills. Straightforward comfort food spot. TVs on the wall, black wooden paneling, some beat-up booths, bright-lighting and loud music. Lol. You're here for the food, nothing else. Service: You go up to the counter to order your food then it's brought out to you so nothing crazy, but very simple. Food: I got to sample quite a few things here, so let's go through them, but first I just want to let y'all know that this is a B.Y.O.B. spot! Woo! The O.G. Mac Dog: It's macaroni & cheese, bacon, jalapenos on an all-beef hot dog. There were so many different hot dogs to choose from, but I had to go with the original. This was SO FLAVORFUL. It tasted like a Nathan's dog, (but is actually a Hormel's dog), but altogether it was fantastic. The mac & cheese was creamy, the bacon was crispy and the jalapenos added just a hint of spice and a little acid. This would be the perfect thing to sober you up after a day/night of partying. Sweet Potato Fries: These were cool. They were crispy and very simple. They could use a bit more salt, but it was all good. Onion Rings: These didn't look like they were made here and that's fine. It's like I've seen these before at other restaurants and that's okay. Restaurants get stuff from the same suppliers so it saves them time. Moving on... Lemon Pepper Wings: These were a dry rub and the wings were crispy. These were very lemon-y and I liked that compared to them being too salty. The flavors were balanced very well. Garlic Parmesan Wings: These were delicious. The ingredients were caked on and that's always a good sign. It was creamy and the parmesan was a bit stronger than the garlic. It tasted like there was some extra hidden ingredients like a ranch or something that was in there, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I wish there was a bit more balance there, but it's all good. I liked them. Sweet Chili: These were not your traditional "sweet chili" wings. They had a Buffalo flavor aspect that I really enjoyed and I was literally licking my fingers after eating these! Jordan's Glaze: Another delicious flavor. The wings were excellent. There was a good hoisin flavor here that presented itself up front which gave a sweet, salty, umami flavor and was well-balanced. Philly Cheesesteak: On their cheesesteak is sliced sirloin, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, jalapenos and cheese wiz. The bun was nice and soft. It was executed so well. The Maillard reaction on the little bits of steak added an extra touch that I really enjoyed. Though.. the sandwich as an entirety was a bit salty. Banana Pudding: This was really good, but comparing it to the best I've ever had (Magnolia Bakery), but this was EXCELLENT. The wafers were soft, but I was just hoping for a little more banana. Strawberry Banana Pudding: Everything mentioned above, but a little more exotic with the bold strawberry flavors. Really, really good. Value: The food is cheap, but doesn't necessarily taste like it. You won't blow your budget here and that's kinda the point. Without all the frills and overhead, Jordan's is allowed to bring you comfort foods and they can solely focus on the flavors. In conclusion, I loved it here. The food will stick to your ribs. Lol. But visit here in moderation. There's a reason they've been here for so long and I'm so happy I got the chance to check them out.

The fries were unnecessarily crispy and tasted as though they had been cooked in dirty grease. The pros: The lemonade was super sweet but good. There were three booths for families, in addition to seats facing 3 televisions for individuals. I personally would not return or recommend.

No photo tonight. I had to basically be in and out of New Haven tonight as I don't have much time…read morebetween train and bus to begin with, but should I come back in the future when I have more time I will take photos. But then what about coming here if I was in such a hurry? Well, I actually learned of this place's existence when I was going to do the Taichi Tea Elite Experience only to find that I had never been confirmed in that event. But after looking at earlier Taichi Tea reviews that day and finding a reviewer who reviewed both that place and this one, I knew this place needed my visit at some point. Also, I had to wait till tonight to come in big part because I had been on medical recovery from a stomach infection since last month, so I wanted to make sure I was feeling better first so I could give this place the best chance possible to excel. Tonight was actually my 3rd time ordering through the Yelp app, but the other 2 times had mixed results. One place confirmed my order while the other canceled twice, so this order was also a test to see if ordering through Yelp was reliable or not. Through God's good graces, this was a success! Service from the employees there was pretty friendly to boot too. So far so good! Now let's get into my order. I ordered three dogs (the Classic, the Mozzarella Cheddar, and then the Squid Ink half and half). All told, I paid $24.77, and that amount includes a $6.55 tip. So yes, this place is actually quite affordable in New Haven! And boy oh BOY are these three worth it! Before I continue, I will remark another dog with the potato crusting done on it. That looked pretty gas (is that a term kids use these days?). I started with the Squid Ink, and honestly, what they did with that thing is genius! The breading is black as squid ink should be, and the hot dog portion at the bottom is crated in such a way to resemble a squid's tentacles (sorry Squidward). It was fire! For the classic, I dipped that in honey mustard, one of my favorite condiments to have on any hot dog. It was pretty good too. And the mozzarella cheddar finished it off! All three were really good! If I had to pick my favorite, I'd say the Squid Ink dog is definitely the winner of the night. I just can't get over how awesome that creativity was. It was more than an "Oh K-Dog". It was an "Oh My God, These Dogs Rule" K-Dogs! I said what I said. Good night everybody!
