Samgye Tang, Spicy Stir-Fried Pork, Dakdori Tang

Took my boyfriend and his parents here to try some korean food and they loved it! Casual place, street parking only. You are served barley tea and a few banchan to start (broccoli, fish cakes, kimchi and ggakduggi). We ordered the seafood pancake, dakdori tang, samgye tang and stir fried pork. The soups/main dishes all come with rice. Everyone loved the stir fried pork, it is a mild spicy and flavorful! My personal fave was the samgye tang it was so comforting, clean, and simple. Service was kind and quick.

New Korean Restaurant in New Haven!! This place specializes in Gukap (rice soup). I actually appreciate how this restaurant has a limited menu, very much a traditional gukap restaurant. The main items inlude gukap, soup, stir fry, and korean pancakes. I went on a Thursday afternoon and got seated immediately. They serve 4 banchan side dishes (fish cake, broccoli, kimchi, and radish). We ordered and got our food within 5-10 mins. #1 signature Mr. Gukop (7/10) - $14.99 - I would recommend this if you love bean sprouts! - flavorful, a bit salty - only had 3 small pieces of meat, wished there was a bit more #2 pork gukop (7/10) - $16.99 - great for rainy/sick days - more on the bland side, but you can add the addition side seasonings to adjust to your taste I did not try the traditional Korean pancakes, a bit on the pricer end for $20 but it is a sharable size! Would try if I come with a large group. Street Parking only!

Samgye Tang. Nice herbal broth with a generous amount of chicken!

Mr Cookbop is a Korean eatery specializing in hearty soups served with rice, and is certainly a welcome addition to New Haven's diverse food scene. Service was fast and courteous, and the restaurant had a lively atmosphere on Friday night with a predominantly college-aged crowd. The space is definitely on the cozier side. It can accommodate a large party, but is best suited for small groups or couples. The prices were very reasonable considering the higher prices I've typically seen at Korean restaurants in Connecticut, and I definitely felt like I got great value for my money with the included banchan in addition to the rice that came with the gukbap, which made the meals very filling. Mr Cookbop will undoubtedly be a great spot to enjoy a hot meal with a few bottles of makgeolli or soju when the weather turns colder. I'm just psyched I finally have a place in Connecticut to drink makgeolli! The space was formerly occupied by Kuro Shiro. It's always sad to see a familiar restaurant close, and I hope Mr. Cookbop enjoys greater success!

    삼계탕

First off this place is such a hidden gem! I ordered the 삼계탕 and it was so good, I felt like I was at home eating a home cooked meal! Oh, and the owner was extremely kind! I'm only in town for a couple days and I always crave korean food when I'm on the road, so to find this place that felt like a home was very comforting for my soul. The rest of the menu looked great and I want to come back to try their other items! I highly recommend coming to this place, you will not regret it!:)

I just moved here from nyc and have been exploring to find good Korean food. This spot was amazing. So delicious and comforting on a cold day. The service was attentive and friendly. The space is large and well kept. I highly recommend.

It is not fair to say this is a high-end place. However, by fat, it was the most satisfying Korean restaurant in the east coast.

Not not a good place for a group of people of more than five. Sit there for twenty minutes without anyone came here to even serve water.

Exciting to see a proper and authentic Korean restaurant in New Haven. Their 돼지국밥 is phenomenal.

We walked in with no reservation on Valentine's Day (bold), and the manager couldn't have been more welcoming. Super friendly, got us seated quickly, and set the tone right away. That kind of hospitality matters. The vibe? Cool, modern, slightly moody -- perfect accidental Valentine's dinner energy. The service was on point all night. Attentive, smooth, and genuinely warm. Now let's talk about the moment that activated my Dominican DNA. I ordered the Sweet Plantains with Cilantro Aioli as an appetizer and when I saw plátanos on that menu? República Dominicana presente. . I felt seen. For my main, I had the Temple Salad and added a burger patty (because balance is important ). Fresh, flavorful, satisfying. My son ordered a burger with truffle fries and I am STILL thinking about those fries today. Crispy. Perfect salt. That truffle flavor hit just right. Those fries deserve their own review. And because it was Valentine's Day and I believe in celebrating myself too, I had the Pineapple Express. Divine. Tropical. Smooth. The kind of drink that keeps the gozadera going. From IKEA chaos to Prime BGR glow-up in under an hour. Great food. Great vibe. Great service. New Haven confirmed it. We'll absolutely be back. #PrimeBGR #NewHavenEats #LaGozadera #DominicanApproved #ValentinesWithMyFavorite #TruffleFries

We especially loved the Habanero Mango Shrimp and the Burger on Fire. The restaurant was clean and the staff is quite friendly. The only issue we had were the wait times and pacing. When we arrived, there weren't many people there (it was 4:00pm). We both ordered Woodford Reserve on the rocks and the drinks took 20 minutes to come out. Pouring bourbon into a glass over ice doesn't take any real time, so at most the wait should have been 5-10 minutes. The food also came out at weird times. We ordered the shrimp as an appetizer, and my husband's side salad that came with his steak came out first...which was fine. The shrimp should have come out with that. However, the shrimp and our meals all came out at the same time...so it was like BAM, FOOD! That was a little much. We did enjoy everything and had a nice dinner, but our one suggestion to the restaurant would be to work on timing. It can make or break a restaurant experience.

We arrived on a Monday around peak dinner time, but there was essentially no wait (apparently uncommon according to my friend -- just a delightful consequence of dining at a college town during the summer). We split a medium pizza (1/2 elote mexican street corn and 1/2 bbq brisket), proving to be more than enough for two plus a more than ample amount of leftovers. Recently, I've gravitated toward thinner pizzas, a far cry from the typical Detroit (foccacia-esque) style pizzas I used to prefer, and BAR's pizza is akin to a flatbread yet very thin, another fallen angel to the GLP's. The undercarriage boasts a brilliant crust, almost cracker-like. However, it should be noted that the pizza is indulgent all the same. The elote pizza is quite possibly the most memorable, unique pizza I've ever had; it arrives almost crimson-red with a generous layer of corn and takis atop. It's still incredibly well balanced despite the hodgepodge of varied toppings. It's hard to pick a favorite between this and the bbq brisket though; while one is incredibly unique the other is simply sumptuous, nothing pedestrian about either of the two. The service is also impeccable, almost rivaling that of southern hospitality. I always thought Californians were friendly but something is in the air every time I visit New Haven. Incredible!

The soft tofu soup was satisfying, the garlic fried chicken wings were crispy, and the seafood pancake had a great taste and texture with a nice crispness throughout. My only minor critique is that I wish there had been a bit more seafood in the pancake, but it was still very delicious overall. One thing that really stood out was the hospitality. They brought out a complimentary steamed egg dish for my daughter, which was incredibly thoughtful and much appreciated. Small gestures like that really make a difference.
