Front left roll is the Volcano, Back left roll is the New Haven, Right side is A La Carte sushi

The food was wonderful, sweet staff, great experience. 10/10 at this restaurant. We Miso. Front left roll is the Volcano (7/10 was great), Back left roll is the New Haven (10/10 absolute favorite, ordered multiple), Right side is A La Carte sushi (They were all delightful and fresh. We especially loved the Saba aka Mackerel and the Hamachi aka Yellowtail).

This place had pretty good tuna tartare-- the fish seemed fresh in the sauces had just the right amount. The ribeye appetizer was a little fatty in some bites, but overall tested good. Their selection of sushi had all the common rolls (California, Philadelphia, Dragon, etc), but nothing unique that separates it apart from other sushi restaurants. I ordered a few of their sushi rolls, and they were just OK. The sushi rice wasn't very flavorful, and the eel slices were more skin than meat. Overall, the food had better appetizers than rolls. The rolls are definitely better than grocery store sushi, but not the best I've ever had... just average. The servers were attentive and the food came out within 15 minutes. This restaurant also has a parking lot two stores away and street parking.

Japanese restaurant with creative specialty rolls right by the orange st promenade. My partner ordered the miso soup which was ok but nothing special. The age tofu was fine as well, pretty standard. The rolls were great - we ordered the New Haven Roll and the Sex on the Beach Roll. Both were delicious! The service was prompt and attentive, and the aesthetics were more modern. The meal itself is a bit pricey for what it's worth. I probably wouldn't come back again - there are cheaper sushi options nearby for when you want good sushi on a budget but also higher quality, more expensive/omakase options just a few blocks away if you want to ball out.

The place was a good interior and gets busy after 6PM on Friday so make sure you make a reservation. I really enjoyed the food here. The lychee martini was strong which was good. I really enjoyed the New Haven roll that I ordered and the weekly special tuna sushi. We also got some appetizers and they were very tasty. My husband got some tempura fish and it was super crispy. I definitely recommend checking out this place.

Very friendly staff! Sushi was fresh and great options. Love that they have fatty tuna specials. Good drink options as well! Easy and relaxed atmosphere!

Delicious and fresh sushi! Great location with a parking lot next door. Very cozy but upscale vibe, and service was great. I went for lunch but some of the cocktails looked amazing, so I will have to come back to try them!

    Chirashi bowl

My husband and I both had the chirashi bowls and they were delicious! My brother and I had eaten here once before and it was just as good then. I took one star off because service was just okay. The staff were not rude at all but were not friendly either. I'm not sure if they are understaffed since there were only two staff members on the floor. Ambiance is fine, nothing fancy, nothing too dull.

If I could give Miso 59373392872 stars I would. Wow. Just wow. What an amazing experience. We kicked off the night with lychee martinis that weren't too sweet but not too sour, they were just right. The edamame is delish and the rock shrimp is a rock star. Seriously, can they sell the sauce by the bucket? Because I'd eat it daily. The crispy rice is like what I imagine a Japanese spin on tator tots is. Just perfectly crispy and delish and has a kick. And then we tried the wagyu. Oh my word. It was as smooth as butter and I swear some of the best meat I've ever had in my life. And I'm from Indiana. I grew up on cows. This though. Mind blowingly delicious, I need more in my life. We then had the volcano roll which I let my friend annihilate, and we split the spicy dragon roll which was perfection. The Cali roll was also awesome as well. And then we both split some mochi, get the strawberry, it's the besssstttt. Thank you Miso for such an awesome foodie night. I miso you so much already.

Since the first time we came to @misonewhaven last July the only thing we've been thinking about is when we could all come back! Last night we made it happen! Me and Isabelle shared another scorpion bowl that she may have pulled most of the weight on (again) but I was too into the crispy rice appetizer to worry about that! And we won't talk about the fact that I don't know how to eat edamame. But I did eat everything else on the table and I think I did it correctly!

A mixture of authentic Japanese cuisine with a modern vibe. If you're looking for sushi, sashimi, nigiri, and other great dishes like noodles, katsu, and teriyaki-based plates...you're in the right place. We had a group of eight and had the best time. Their drinks were delicious. I tried the Lychee Martini with Absolut Citron, Lychee juice, Lychee Liqueur- it was sweet and refreshing. I also tried the Ginger Honey Saketini- Premium Sake, Ginger, Honey, Fresh Lemon, and Splash of Prosecco. That was one of my favorites. I would also recommend the Plum Cosmo. Make sure to try the Tuna Sandwich- Fresh tuna, masago, crunchy & Japanese mayonnaise between sushi rice & soy nori. YUM! Another hit was the Lollipop Shrimp- four pieces of shrimp on a stick, breaded with panko and garlic mayonnaise. Great presentation too! Also the Rib Eye Steak Negimaki- grilled scallion rolled with thin sliced rib eye. Don't miss that one! The inside is spacious and you get to see them making all of the rolls if you are closer to the back. I'm looking forward to heading back the next time that I am in New Haven. Definitely worth the trip!

A beautiful restaurant with excellent food. They offer unique rolls and the basics. Slightly more expensive than the other sushi in the area, but did not disappoint. Would absolutely return. @thesidedishers

    Spicy Edamame
    Will B.

Great Japanese spot. The restaurant has a calm atmosphere with lighting that is dim enough to be relaxing but not so dim that it becomes hard to see. Service was excellent and all our food came in a timely manor. We had some very nice sake with our meal as well. We tried the spicy edamame and the rock shrimp tempura to start. The spicy edamame was good, not too spicy and a plenty large portion, more than enough for 2 people. The rock shrimp tempura was great, well fried tempura rock shrimps in a sweet tangy sauce. For our entrees we got an assortment of a la cart nigiri as well as the rock n roll. The roll was very good but the nigiri was the real star of the show. Amazingly tender and slightly sweet escolar, rich salmon, and wonderful tuna as well. If you like mackerel be sure to try it here as well. The otoro nigiri was slightly less fatty than what I usually expect when orders ring otoro it looked more like chutoro. However despite its looks, it was wonderfully rich and savory with that signature otoro melt in your mouth texture. Definitely stop by miso if you're looking for a more upscale Japanese spot with excellent sushi!

Rock N' Roll and New Haven Roll!!!! Unreal!

Love this place it was recommended by a friend. I just started doing business down here in New Haven in the last couple weeks. I've been here four times this month. This will be my go to sushi place!

Luckily I went to their website and found out where their current location is (I also updated the business page so hopefully the new address shows) I had not been to the old location so I cannot speak to it but we were a bit confused when we arrived as there was no sign on the awing of the building. My friend had told me that new location was next to Ricotta Bakery so we went in to ask. We were told that we ordered there and the food would be brought to us next door. Of note you can also order from the Ricotta menu which has bakery and non sushi items We ordered and went to wait for our food which was sent out through a pass through for pick up. The space is large but the decor is very sparce . That being said the food was the star of the show. All of the rolls we order (and we ordered several) were fresh and tasty. We left with full bellies which we doesn't always happen when we go for sushi. So don't let the lack of signage and space decor deter you - it's a great place to visit.

The staff was so helpful and kind. The food looked as good as it tasted! I am not typically a miso soup fan and I couldn't get enough! A hearty broth with a tad of spice. The kani salad was amazing and I could have eaten it all day. The rolls were as delicious as they were beautiful. The chicken dishes were good, but the real star in my opinion was the sushi options. I will order more of that when I make a return trip. Definitely worth the visit!

Prices run a bit high, but the quality of the ingredients more than make up for it. The Jako Salad (4.5/5) is a favorite of mine. It perfectly mixes peppery arugula and crisp radish with a poached egg, fried baby anchovy, bonito flakes, and nori. The baby anchovy gives a sweet/salty crunch that tastes like my childhood. Every bite swings between fresh and umami in a really creative way. The harasu don (5/5) is pure richness in a rice bowl. Grilled salmon belly and salmon roe together are incredibly rich, almost to the edge of too much, but the warm rice underneath keeps it grounded and turns it into a perfect comfort dish. The giant octopus sashimi (4/5) is a great counterbalance, cleanly sliced with a firm, fresh bite that lightens things up. The fresh tofu with uni (5/5) might be my favorite plate. The tofu is ultra delicate, and the rich uni on top adds a briny depth. With the simple seasonings on the side, it's a savory panna cotta. If they ever did a dessert version with ginger syrup, I would be here daily. Sashimi here is excellent (5/5). You get a balanced mix of fatty cuts like otoro and leaner ones like akami, along with hamachi, katsuo, and octopus. The variety lets you move between clean and rich bites at your own pace. A side note. Every so often a piece of yamamomo shows up on the plate (small red berries), a little mountain peach that is sweet enough to outshine most desserts. It may just be a palette cleanser, but it is a personal 10/5 for me. So good! Both indoor and outdoor seating feel comfortable, and service was on point: kind, attentive, and well timed. Overall, this is a standout Japanese option that I would highly recommend if you're ever in New Haven.

Hachiroku was a highly anticipated place after being nominated for Restaurant of the Year in New…read moreHaven County for Connecticut Restaurant Association's annual Crazies awards so I had it on my list of must go to restaurants. I have also never been to a sake bar. Have to say....I was underwhelmed. We came in last Friday and apparently it was slow because Yale was off (according to our waiter). If a restaurant is good they should not be slow on a Friday night. We sat by the door on a cold night and there were two other couples practically on top of us. Rest of the seating are high tops against a wall by the bar or up the stairs on another level. We would have liked to sit upstairs but they were closing off that area. Menu was complex as the restaurant is authentic Japanese. Lots of beef options. Lots of Wagyu. I was hoping to be blown away by this restaurant trying something different. I was struggling trying to find something to order that sounded appetizing. I knew going in that this place was authentic Japanese but I don't know, nothing sounded great to me. I love mushrooms so I got the Mixed Kinoko Mushroom appetizer which was $15. To add scallops was another $8. Mushrooms were tasty. Scallops were not. $23 for a small dish. I also got the pork short ribs. Not a ton of meat on them, however, nice flavor. I was still hungry after this so I ordered a dessert which was the best part of the meal. They get some of their desserts from Hen & Heifer which is a well established place in Guilford. I got the Ube Panna cotta. Boyfriend got the Black cod Yu-an Yaki and upgraded to add the salad, pickles and rice for $3 more. The pickles were maybe two bites. Salad tasty but again, very small. He said the cod was just ok too. Very small portions and pricey for what you get. $30 for a mini sake flight. Not impressed with how it was served either. Small tasting glasses just placed on the table with no description. The server explained which was which, but I didn't remember. Not sure if he didn't care or this is how it's normally served, but if you go to a wine bar/brewery, they provide descriptions with flights usually written underneath the glass, or at least serve it in something. Not just tiny glasses placed on a table where you have no idea what you're having. Especially for $30! I was not impressed with this place whatsoever. As this is part of a newer restaurant group with a few different locations nearby in New Haven, we then went to their cocktail Lounge on crown street (116 Cocktail Bar) thinking it might be better, however we were equally disappointed. It was dead in there and the bartenders were miserable. They couldn't wait to get out of there. I have heard that their hand roll bar is very good (Handroll on State St). We have been to their Grocery Store called The Loop and it's cute. They have a brunch at the Grocery/Kitchen location that looks really good. They also have a wine lounge at The Loop that I'd like to try.

Chidori Revolving Sushi is a New Haven go-to for me. The premise is fun: you sit somewhere in the restaurant, that location has access to a conveyer belt system that is full of sushi at all times. You can grab any plate, usually containing 2 pieces of sushi, and once you're done, you're charged by putting the plate in a slot by your seat. The plates are colored based on price ($2.58 for blue plates, usually basic rolls like a philadelphia roll or spicy tuna roll, $3.79 for red plates, the most common type, which contain the specialty rolls, and then $5.79 for black plates, which are usually slices of fish over a piece of rice and much more fish-heavy). This format lets you try out a bunch of rolls, rather than committing to just 1 or 2. This is great if you're like me and get full a bit fast but love trying as many things as possible! There is also a tablet where you can order appetizers, full rolls, drinks, and more! I tried a number of rolls, with my favorite by far being the New Haven roll, which was fried and full of jalapeños and spicy tuna. I also loved the Steelers roll, with mango and salmon, and the angry roll, which was like a philadelphia roll with smoked salmon and kani on top! I had some of the mushroom soup, which was super dissimilar to the typical clear soup with mushroom broth and was instead very very strong on the mushroom. A super thick and oily broth, it was so rich and umami it was almost hard to finish, but super delicious!! I also had the pepper tuna appetizer, which was thicker and chewier than I'm used to, but the gimmick of this place is about the conveyer belt so I didn't expect complete perfection! Finally, I had the taiyaki dessert--a SHOWSTOPPER. Delicious and perfectly fried, the red bean is scrumptious inside and the ice cream is a great touch. After 10 plates are put into their little device, you get a small gacha toy which is a cute touch! I got a little Kuromi which was fun. Overall, I love this place. I recommend it a ton. My favorite appetizer the sexy jalapeño--a spicy tuna filled and fried jalapeño! Definitely swing by and give a bunch of different sushi pieces a try. The best time to hit it is when it's busy--I went at 8pm on a saturday and it seems they had just stopped putting more sushi out, since they close at 9. This meant the sushi slowly dwindled and I didn't get to try anything different from what I saw the first go-around. But it's still worth it!

The plates range from $2.79-$6.79 each and it adds up quickly. For what we paid total we could have had a fine dining experience in New Haven. Fun to try.
