Unassuming little spot in a supermarket plaza but very cool interior decor with great lunch and happy hour specials. Like you literally cannot beat $16 for a three sushi roll lunch, or for hibachi bento, or what amounts to $10 Martinis (Buy 1 get 1 at half price) these days. Secondly the head bartender is an absolute GOAT professional and will tailor cocktails to your preferences and tastes. I'm a gin/vodka drinker but like things spicy. Guy had cinnamon and chili infused syrup on hand and made me the best mango-habanero-basil!!! Tom Collins I've ever had. My wife had their Koichi martini and loved it so much that she raved about it for half an hour on the way home. Going to ask for the recipe the next time we stop in. Also do NOT and I repeat DO NOT sleep on the duck sliders. Holy crap!! Absolutely amazing and juicy. Right in Michelin tier in and of themselves. Hidden gem is what this place is. Trying this place once more after a long hiatus PARKING - in a strip mall so ample parking is available ENTRANCE - there is a host and cashier right to the left. The set up must facilitate take out orders HOST/WAITER - it was lunchtime so our waiter was wearing two hats LOL. We were seated anywhere we liked so took a booth. AMBIANCE - on the nicer side with the booths being U Shaped and comfortable seating for sure. The color scheme was on the red side. Hence the name I guess LOL. There were quite a few tables with a sushi bar work station straight to the back I also noticed a full bar to the right of where you walk in. Not a plethora of seating but when crowded you could eat at the bar I suspect MENU - definitely fusion with a bit more Japanese options than Chinese. They offer various appetizers and for sushi a lot of individual selections from a full dinner or pick your own pieces or rolls. For lunch they have a nice 3 rolls of your choice for $16 which is a good deal. FOOD - I tried a tuna dumpling that I have to say was unique and excellent. The sushi rolls were not the greatest, I've had better but not awful. They could give you more wasabi and ginger was my only pet peeve The salad came with the lunch special and it was very good and fresh. BTW you have a choice between soup or salad LIBATIONS - they had a nice selection of beer. Any mixed drinks plus saki. We ordered the kirin beer which came as a tap beer rather than a bottle RESTROOMS - they have one for men and one for women but they consider them unisex so you can use either The bathroom was not small and was clean. This is one of my new favorite restaurants. We ordered a few items and shared. We started with the cold noodles with peanut sesame sauce. Wow was this delicious and flavorful. We also ordered a couple rolls: spring sunshine roll and spicy tuna. Both were really good! My favorite was the entree: Szechuan crispy beef. We also got a side of white rice. This past week I went out to Red Lotus for lunch with my cousin. We arrived and after a couple of minutes were seated as we seemed to be the first ones there shortly after they opened. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was I liked the restaurants atmosphere, it was pretty relaxed and our booth was nice and large. Our waitress came by, very friendly and took our drink orders. We ordered a few appetizers to start. We began with gyoza, Nia's dumplings, and a crispy duck salad. I didn't try the gyoza but my cousin said it was good. Nia's dumplings were great, they were steamed dumplings with pork, shrimp, and chives. The crispy duck salad was excellent! I simply wish they had used a spring mix instead of plain lettuce, which I think would have made it amazing. We went with two rolls a piece, my cousin got a California roll and I believe a spicy crab roll, which she was a fan of. I tried the American valley roll and a Paradise roll and both were fantastic! Both rolls had shrimp tempura, the paradise roll had lobster salad and mango while the American valley roll had crab and tempura flakes on top. I really was pleased with the quality of these rolls! I had a great time with my cousin, the food was very nice, and our waitress was really nice and attentive! I enjoyed going to Red Lotus and look forward to doing it again! Typical "Asian" place that serves a plethora of Asian dishes across numerous styles, with decent but not impressive results. I wanted a comfort food-type dinner and found this place as somewhere that delivers. I got the szechuan chicken, shrimp, and eggplant dish along with the "spicy" crab salad. The flavors were pretty underwhelming with very little heat and the flavors not being strong enough. It had basics of a good dish but really lacked the strong, savory flavors that you would expect from these dishes. The crab salad was very bland. Would not recommend. I just went there for dinner tonight and while I thought the waitresses are amazing. The food was less than amazing. The white tuna (escolar) was frozen. The fatty tuna was not indeed fatty tuna, but they tried to pass it off as that while scoring it. The regular chef was not there apparently tonight so we had to put up with two guys that really didn't know what they were doing, and I would have to give tonight an overall F rating. Menu was very large. We had a couple of rolls for an appetizer and then shared two entrees. Both rolls were great, with the tempura batter adding a nice texture to the sweet potato. Pad Thai was fairly standard and straightforward. Prawns were massive and well fried, but a little bland. Was expecting more of a honey walnut sauce as opposed to a few glazed walnuts mixed into the shrimp and random raw vegetables. Our number one sushi spot! My husband and I have been in love with Red Lotus for many years, and we have brought many friends and family to try it. Not only is it beautiful inside, making for a lovely date or family night, but the staff is very kind, and Chef Larry and his wife Nia are the best! The cocktails are light and delicious, the miso soup is perfection, the salad has the best ginger dressing we've ever had (with a hint of apple!), the sushi is always fresh and delicious...and our favorite appetizer is the Nia's Dumplings. A friend and I drove past this place many times and finally decided to try it. The interior was very clean and contemporary and the staff was nice and courteous. I got two orders of steamed vegetable gyoza, the Tofu Delight and vegetable yakisoba. The gyoza tasted about as good as I expected, but the dipping sauce elevates them substantially. The Tofu Delight was excellent; great texture from the tofu and vegetables and a surprisingly delicious sauce. Highly recommended. However, the yakisoba was a big disappointment. The noodles and vegetables were of good quality, but there was no flavor whatsoever. None. Did they forget to add sauce? I had to add my leftover gyoza sauce to make it palatable. I really hope this was just an oversight and that's not how they always make it. This place seems to be a good restaurant and I'll definitely be back for the tofu, but they really need to do something about the plain noodles. Wild Kanji is still the best in the area. read more

Ate dinner here as it was a convenient stop off Route 8 on our way to a show in Bridgeport. We had a vegetarian with us, and my sister in law who lives in town said this was her favorite place. I'm so glad I did. The menu is great, and the sushi chefs are incredibly creative as well. That's where I fit. I was desiring a 'Chirashi don' (a sashimi rice bowl). Quickly, the Sushi Chefs smiled, put their heads together, and came out with a beautiful bowl. I had a big smile on my face too! This place a local gem. Great food, a wonderful staff, reasonable pricing, casual attire, and plenty of parking. I've ordered from this place several times and always had good experiences--the staff has been super friendly and the food decent. But this last takeout order was really disappointing. The food didn't match what was described on the menu at all. To make things worse, I ended up speaking with the owner, who was surprisingly rude. It was a frustrating experience overall. I've eaten at plenty of Asian restaurants as it is my favorite cuisine when dining out... I have had amazing sushi in my travels, but I have to tell you, Red Lotus is top 5. When you're parking your car in a strip mall, expectations may not be so high, but I promise you that when you sit down in the trendy eatery, open the menu and start eating, you will be delighted! The owner Larry is friendly as he can be seen mingling with diners in a playful way, not annoying by any means. The service is wonderful, but the food... this was our second time eating there, we tried different items than the first go, except for our favorite, and each item was incredible. The tuna dumplings are creative, flavorful, fresh, and overall my favorite item on the menu. I highly recommend it. We actually contemplated taking one home for lunch the next day but we didn't. The lychee champagne was a perfect way to begin our meal. I could go on and on about each dish we tried but honestly, you need to go for yourself. You will be highly impressed. Started off with the pork gyoza - always a tasty start and never disappoints. My mom went with the drunken Thai noodles - super tasty but the noodles were stuck to each other which was a tad annoying. But like I said I'm here for the sushi, and it was fresh and delicious. My daughter came down to visit me and I was very excited for us to go here, as we used to go here as a family years and years ago when it was Happy Family, We had so many great memories there. To preface this review, I need to note they brought us the wrong dish at first which I noted this to the server to which she took away and brought the correct dish, When I asked my daughter why she did not touch her food. she said it was because she saw our server bring that same dish I started to eat to another party's table. She saw them start to eat this meal. yes I told her she should have said something. also.... not our job to make sure the servers we are tipping is doing theirs, cant help but feel they are trained to do that. surely no one can have that little common sense and work in food service. read more
