I arrived at the hotel around 9:30pm and had 30 minute before the kitchen closed, so after I dropped my things in the room, I headed to the bar. The restaurant wasn't packed by any means. The bartender was nice and helpful. I started with the smokestack bruschetta. It was delicious. The hickory smoked brisket was tender and flavorful which tasted excellent with the soft poblano grit cakes! There was an explosion of flavor in my mouth. I loved it. The Atlantic salmon was prepared excellently. Not overcooked or undercooked. The miso glaze with bites of salmon and quinoa was the perfect combination. I couldn't get enough of it. I originally wanted the lobster spring rolls instead of the salmon, but unfortunately they'd run out earlier in the day. read more

I have been to this restaurant many times and it never disappointed. I have tried essentially everything on the breakfast menu and one of my absolute favorites was the breakfast sandwich (specifically with brisket which was smoked fresh daily) It was a huge portion and came with the option of breakfast potatoes, berries or a side salad. It was nice to have options for a side. They have so many options there is definitely something for everyone. I appreciated the variety due to the amount of times I stayed there, I could always have something different. One highlight of my breakfast experience that may seem minor was their fresh pressed Fuji apple juice, it is without a doubt the best I've ever had. They use farm fresh, local ingredients which I am a huge fan of. The quality was so high. Josh is my favorite server / bartender, extremely attentive and always goes above and beyond. read more

We had brunch here twice during our stay at the hotel and both times we really enjoyed our meal. Coffee was nice and hot with the right amount of brew strength...not too bold and not too weak. Service was friendly and attentive. There's a bar area to sit for cocktails and ordering. The dining room was large with lots of windows. You can also make reservations through Open Table or Resy if you're concerned about seating. We were in town for the Yale Harvard football game and so breakfast got a little crowded around 9:00. Food was great! Both mornings we ordered the same dishes: frittata and a burger with fries. The frittata had a good amount of mushrooms and spinach. Nice and creamy. Came with a side salad. The burger came with a side of fries and I loved those fries! Crispy and thin. Nicely seasoned. Burger both times came out medium well, just as we ordered. Locally sourced ingredients. BLDG is a hidden gem tucked away inside Hotel Marcel. I love everything that this hotel stands for and the Sales Department working at Hotel Marcel are incredible. Clarizza is the best and I had the pleasure of meeting the GM a few months ago who is equally as friendly and nice. Book your next event with Clarizza! Our dinner two weeks ago on Saturday night was very nice. They have a scratch kitchen, so everything is made fresh. They even have whoever they are sourcing from (local farms, etc.) right on the menu which is great. Our server was fantastic. Drinks were phenomenal - I had a fantastic margarita with Tajin on the rim which I love. We started with the crab cake and the smokestack bruschetta, followed by the ELDAWLA salad. The crab crake was huge and incredibly flavorful, and the bruschetta was flavorful and interesting as well. Salad was SO good, bursting with a multitude of flavors - watermelon, pistachio, mint, etc. It was also quite large. We were getting quite full but still decided on entrees because the starters and salad were so great. I got the curry without added protein, and the boyfriend got the Wild Atlantic Salmon. Looks can be deceiving! From an esthetic perspective the space is lovely and very relaxing. We are always looking for a place to enjoy breakfast so off we went. We were pleasantly greeted and seated in an almost empty restaurant. We ordered our meals and waited and waited and waited for our coffee. Almost instantly I was handed pancakes and I questioned as to the speed at which they arrived and was assured they were mine, well they were not, if I had an allergic issue with chocolate it would have been unfortunate. The pancakes were taken away and we waited for our meal. When our meals arrived it was underwhelming. The pancakes had no flavor the cinnamon roll was cold and dry, I honestly feel it was reheated from last week! I could not finish the pancakes and took only one bite of the cinnamon roll. This is my third time eating here and it's become a reliable gem. I've never had a bad meal here and, as I've learned, the most "boring" dishes are often the ones that astound me the most. First time eating here, in fall 2024, I ordered the fish and chips. Doesn't sound too interesting, but the fish was skate instead of haddock or cod. I have never been a big fan of skate, but it worked beautifully in this dish. The batter was crispy and not too heavy and the dish was just fantastic. The most recent time eating here was for New Haven Restaurant Week in April 2025. I was disappointed when I saw the entrees: chicken milanese, buckwheat soba noodles, or black sea bass. In any other restaurant, the black sea bass would have been my immediate default. My friend ordered it and the fish was done well, and the fennel and pea base was excellent. But, given my past experience with BLDG, I decided to go against my misgivings and order the chicken milanese. Wow. It was excellent: crunchy breading, crisped to perfection, and on the inside a juicy, healthy-sized piece of chicken. There were a few melted shavings of parmesan (as stated on the menu), but I'm pretty sure there was some mustard coating the chicken (or maybe coming off the salad?) that added a welcome bite of flavor. The chicken, fish, and vegetables have all been very fresh every time I've eaten here. For dessert, the carrot cake cheesecake sounded phenomenal, but I again went against my instincts and got the mint julep cake. My friend got the cheesecake and it was indeed good, but the coconut was too much for me (I'm not a fan of the fruit). I'm also not a fan of mint in sweet dishes because too often it tastes like toothpaste to me. But this cake had a perfect balance -- just enough mint to be refreshing, but enough cake and honey to not be overpowering. The lime gelato was a nice touch. The seating has a little art deco feel and the bar is beautiful. It matches the overall vibe of the hotel and its classic Brutalist architecture. The wine menu is a little limited -- just a couple selections by the glass or bottle -- no special bottles hidden in back. But the wines are overall good and the cocktails and mocktails more than compensate. I'm looking forward to my next meal here. read more

I ordered the huevos rancheros with a side of a single pancake. The rancheros were very tasty and had a nice chorizo blend and a tomato sauce that was gently spicy. It was delicious. The interior is well lit as well. I came here with my family on the way to the New Haven station. Ambiance: Beautiful, warm dining space with nice tables. Might be quiet so maybe less comfortable if you are a loud noisy party, but it's nice for a smaller group or family. It's a mostly separate raised space set away from the hotel lobby, doesn't feel like a lobby. 4.5 Service: Attentive and friendly, but poorly trained. 3.5 Location: Building is amazing work of art. Location is almost too far to walk from downtown New Haven (unfortunately because it's become one of the nicest downtowns in the US), but you could easily bike or take a bus there. The streets to walk or bike here are mostly pleasant and safe from crazy traffic. Overall 4. Food: Food uses high quality ingredients and many dishes, like salads and organic chicken, are healthy options if you're looking for that. Some of the dishes are prepared very well, and are elegant and tasty, but other dishes are basically average or somewhat above average. Nothing bad though. Nice selection of local beers and cocktails and wines to go with the food. I would suggest avoiding desserts, though, and walking over to Wooster Street or going downtown for that. Desserts have been poorly executed. Overall 4 for food. Value: Prices are more or less reasonable for what is offered. Not a huge value, but also not overpriced. You get value from being able to enjoy the nice space. 4 Average 4, good, but being in a mid-sized city that has many 5-star places and is so famous for food, this isn't likely to be a destination or a place that locals will come back to often, unless the food (and especially desserts) can be improved. Beautiful space, and a fine choice for a quiet evening or maybe a lunch. And it's a nice option if you are staying at the gorgeous hotel or visiting the IKEA next door. read more

And our waiter had a tendency to mumble, talk fast, and talk low so we could barely understand a word he was saying. We went there for Thanksgiving dinner, and instantly loved the look of the place. We ordered cocktails, which were delicious, but after one sip, soup was served. So we had no time to enjoy our cocktails. THEN, around three minutes later, we were served our dinner. We had planned on ordering a cocktail and have wine with our dinner, but since the cocktails, the soup, and the entree were all on the table at once, we didn't have the opportunity. I complained to the guy who brought us the dinner, and said we are being rushed through the courses, He said nothing. A man sat next to us, and was sitting there for at least 15 minutes, and he was completely ignored. He finally got up and left. Mind you, this place was FAR from being crowded. There were considerably more empty tables than full. The food? I ordered honey baked ham, which was burned, dry, and NOT honey baked. The top slice of ham on my plate was black. It was that burned. I was given a little pitcher of honey sauce that was too hot to touch. The mashed potatoes were almost certainly instant. They had no flavor at all. The green bean casserole which was described on the menu as having a crunchy topping, was tasteless and there was not the slightest crunch. (I had to hunt for it since it was sitting under a little ramekin of cranberry sauce) The pitcher for the honey sauce was on top of most of the mashed potatoes. It was a mess. We are willing to try it again, since this was a holiday, and maybe they had their B team working the room. But boy, this was VERY disappointing. read more

Incredible. A hidden gem of New Haven. I brought my mom for a Valentine's Day date, and the chef was kind enough to make everyone complimentary beef puff pastries. I thought I had the best pasta straight from the source in Italy, but I was wrong. Not only does New Haven arguable have the best pizza, it also can argue it has the best pasta made here. After visiting the Yale Art Gallery and then IKEA, I was starving & we googled "restaurants near me" , and BLDG came up. And it was "near me"- right next door inside the Hotel Marcel! I had wanted to check out the building anyway, so after a Quick Look online at the menu, we booked on Open Table. It was a Friday late afternoon, and not at all busy. Staff was friendly and welcoming, the decor and ambiance were nice. Didn't really have expectations, but everything was excellent! Our party of 3 had: 1. The Baked Feta (for our vegetarian). They loved the feta itself, the other stuff in it not so much but overall they enjoyed. It was different! 2. Haus Burger. Excellent burger & tasty fries. 3. Fish & chips- this was my dish and I loved it, so fresh, not greasy, perfectly cooked. I substituted squash for the fries (I can't have potatoes ). I wish they offered sweet potato fries but the squash was acceptable. For dessert we split the apple galette , this was just ok. Could have been better, not sure why. Didn't seem super fresh, not enough caramel... Overall a great experience! Definitely will eat here again. But the major faux pas was the bucatini pasta. It was all broken up and the sauce was oil no cheese and some greasy spinach. You can't come to New Haven with poor Italian and broken bucatini. I went here for dinner at 6:30 on a Friday night and could not believe how empty it was. This restaurant has an incredibly creative menu developed around sustainably sourced and seasonal ingredients. The complimentary bread was some of the best I've ever had on its and it paired perfectly with the heads of roasted garlic that it was served with. I ordered the sustainabowl, which was absolutely delicious and generously-portioned. One person in my group ordered the Korean fried chicken sandwich and enjoyed it, but struggled to finish it because of how much food was included. The remaining two people in my party ordered the steak frites to varying degrees of medium doneness and they both found that they were on the rare side, so if you order red meat you may want to take extra care when specifying how you would like it cooked. In my opinion, this restaurant is currently one of New Haven's best kept secrets. read more

We enjoyed it very much. Staff was friendly and patient with our many questions. The burger was perfect and a request for extra crispy fries yielded perfection. My friend had the steak frites and she got the tallow fries - wow. We shared a side of Brussels sprouts that were delicious. I loved the decor and ambiance of this place which is inside the new Hotel Marcel, the gorgeous and eco friendly new hotel at the Pirelli building. (The next time I'm shopping at IKEA I'd consider skipping the Swedish meatballs and walk the 20 or so steps over to BLDG instead.) I'd definitely come here again. read more
