Menu from BLDG in New Haven, CT, displaying breakfast items such as avocado toast, farm egg sandwiches, and sweet potato biscuits, along with cocktails like cider-mosa, bloody mary, and Tierra Taza whiskey. The menu emphasizes locally sourced ingredients and sustainability, with options for vegetarians and vegans. Looks can be deceiving! From an esthetic perspective the space is lovely and very relaxing. We are always looking for a place to enjoy breakfast so off we went. We were pleasantly greeted and seated in an almost empty restaurant. We ordered our meals and waited and waited and waited for our coffee. Almost instantly I was handed pancakes and I questioned as to the speed at which they arrived and was assured they were mine, well they were not, if I had an allergic issue with chocolate it would have been unfortunate. The pancakes were taken away and we waited for our meal. When our meals arrived it was underwhelming. The pancakes had no flavor the cinnamon roll was cold and dry, I honestly feel it was reheated from last week! I could not finish the pancakes and took only one bite of the cinnamon roll. Just a complete disappointment.

    Fish & "chips" (substituted squash).

After visiting the Yale Art Gallery and then IKEA, I was starving & we googled "restaurants near me" , and BLDG came up. And it was "near me"- right next door inside the Hotel Marcel! I had wanted to check out the building anyway, so after a Quick Look online at the menu, we booked on Open Table. It was a Friday late afternoon, and not at all busy. Staff was friendly and welcoming, the decor and ambiance were nice. Didn't really have expectations, but everything was excellent! Our party of 3 had: 1. The Baked Feta (for our vegetarian). They loved the feta itself, the other stuff in it not so much but overall they enjoyed. It was different! 2. Haus Burger. Excellent burger & tasty fries. 3. Fish & chips- this was my dish and I loved it, so fresh, not greasy, perfectly cooked. I substituted squash for the fries (I can't have potatoes ). I wish they offered sweet potato fries but the squash was acceptable. For dessert we split the apple galette , this was just ok. Could have been better, not sure why. Didn't seem super fresh, not enough caramel... Overall a great experience! Definitely will eat here again. Before that Google search, I didn't even know this restaurant existed inside the hotel, that's why I'm writing this review.

Sweet potato bread - A white plate holds three fried chicken pieces with a golden-brown, crispy exterior. Two small metal bowls contain a seasoning or dipping sauce. In the background, there is a bowl of salad with mixed greens and a small container of dressing, along with a glass of water and a glass of a dark beverage. The setting appears to be a restaurant with a light-colored table surface.

Incredible. A hidden gem of New Haven. I brought my mom for a Valentine's Day date, and the chef was kind enough to make everyone complimentary beef puff pastries. I thought I had the best pasta straight from the source in Italy, but I was wrong. Not only does New Haven arguable have the best pizza, it also can argue it has the best pasta made here. The bread was fresh and flavorful with interesting combination options. Nice open space with cool ambiance. 10/10 would recommend and now want to try everything on their menu. Our waitress Jade was very attentive and sweet

Our first time here and it's been open 2 years. A little late to the game but we were pleasantly surprised. Well made cocktails and a decent beer selection. We sat at the bar and our bartender Stacey made us feel at home. We will add this to our rotation of good New Haven restaurants. Cheers.

We've already done the full circuit and were starting to run out of steam. Then he spotted this place on Yelp and somehow grabbed a same-day 9 pm Friday reservation. Walking in, it was buzzing. Packed, energetic, not a sleepy student crowd in sight. The space has that semi-upscale vibe that could lean sterile if not for the open kitchen and movie-theater-style board listing the specials -- quirky touch, and it works. We were seated elbow-to-elbow with two other tables (so maybe not your candlelit-date choice), but given the packed house it wasn't as loud as I thought. We ordered the burrata, beet salad, octopus, and cod. Everything had personality -- creative but balanced. The cod was steamed perfectly with a sauce that somehow managed to be both rich and delicate, and the beet salad with citrus was just so smartly done. Honestly, this is what Tavern on State wants to be: food that's actually good and inventive without tipping into try-hard territory. Hope they keep it up -- it's easily our new favorite spot. Parking's your usual parallel-street adventure, but we found a space nearby and rolled right in.

That got me interested and wanted to check it out. I saw they had a huge duck sign outside which was even more intriguing. I came in for lunch and the waitress guided me to the back. There is a wonderful dining room in the back to relax in. They have the IG section where you could take pictures in. They had wings on one side and funny neon signs on the other. There is a comic strip with a duck in the prohibition era and bringing alcohol to New Haven which was very clever. I liked the silliness vibe of the restaurant. This place must be a hit during the weekends. The waitress came by and gave me the local tips on what everything was about. There is a lot of history to this place. To order of course I got the fried chicken and waffle bites. It was $15 for two pieces. I didn't want a big meal so this did the job. To drink they had a large menu of beverages with funny names. I loved the "Unusual Ducks-pect" or the "Mango Noir." I needed something nonalcoholic for the lunch hour. There was a drink called Dubai Dusk which intrigued me. It had fresh espresso, pistachio syrup, chocolate syrup, strawberry puree, and milk. I did not know if these things would all go together but it was wonderful. It had the right mix of sweetness and caffine. It also was a good mix with the chicken and waffles. I had a great meal here and will definitely come back again when I am in New Haven!
