This has become my preferred stop whenever I go to the Plainville AMC. With things getting so expensive, it's very refreshing to see a place that can give a lot of value for a reasonable price. The restaurant is fairly small, but the portions are big! I got the disco fries as an appetizer and they were a delicious combo of gravy cheese and seasoning. You could also tell by the bite and the shape that they were made fresh which is also a big plus. I got the hungry bull burger and they were accommodating with substituting the horseradish crema for the house sauce. You would think double meat might be a bit much but it works well and the onion straws really make it shine. Finally I got the strawberry milkshake which was probably better than any shake shack milkshake I've had! The restaurant itself is also very eco-conscious by participating in newport biodiesel, so its great to know that not only are you getting a good meal but the restaurant you are supporting is also helping the people of the connecticut. read more

Mostly good burgers and dogs, great fries, nice but small location Came here on the way to an event, so we opted for some lunch beforehand. This place was well reviewed, so we decided to make this the spot this time around. Ordering was done up front, but there were tables to sit at. Missus ordered while I took photos, and the food came out relatively quickly. Took pics and dug in. Sweet potato fries were the highlight. Hand cut, fried and seasoned. With ranch, they were really good. The burger and hot god were good in terms of quality and quantity. The condiments were a little overpowering though, ended up taking over a lot of the dish and really muddled the meat. The meat itself was lightly seasoned, relying on the condiments to bring the flavor. Not bad, but all elements should bring their own identity and add to a meal. The burger felt absent, and although flavorful was lacking that extra bit of salt or fat to make it truly shine. It's not bad at all, just lacking. Great local find!! This place has amazing potential - so much care and effort went into the toppings and each bite. Unfortunately our burger patty itself was overcooked and under seasoned. So glad I saw this place on a "best burger in the state" list or else I would not have heard of it and it's easy to not notice it when driving by. My husband and I both had a build your own burger and split an order of fries. The beef was delicious as well as the bun (and to think I almost asked for a lettuce bun). The fries were good too. The menu had other items that sounded good that I would like to try but it would be hard to go back and not get a burger since they were so good! The 2 gentlemen working there were very friendly. If eating there, sit down and they will come by and take your order and then bring your food to your table. Pay at the register. Not huge place, but has good number of tables. Finally checked out Hungry Bull. It's a nice spot, BYOB with a liquor store right next door. We didn't bother because I wanted a milkshake and was rewarded with a really good one! After reading the great reviews about this place my wife and I had to try it for our "Hot Dog Tuesday" lunch. I don't give out 5 stars easily. This little unassuming place deserves every one of them! As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a very friendly man at the counter who seated us and brought menus. He turned out to be very helpful finding out this was our first time here. The store was well lit and clean. The tables were well spaced and not crowded in. My wife stuck to our tradition and ordered the RT 10 Dog with the spicy relish on the side. (Which was great for me) I couldn't resist The Hungry Bull burger. We'll just have to come back again for me to try their hotdogs. The 10' hot dog is a Martin Rosol's so the foundation of this hot dog is super strong. The sauerkraut was tasty and full flavored and just the right amount of mustard. My wife tried the spicy relish, that our server cheerfully supplied on the side, and it was a little too hot for her liking. Bonus for me. I got to put it on my burger. My burger came out stacked on a sturdy Brioche Roll with American cheese, onion straws and some very tasty horseradish crema. My burger was juicy and full of flavor. The onion straws brought the right amount of crunch. Halfway through I began to add in the spicy relish. Amazing. We got fries and onion rings and shared. The fries were big, crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. Just the way I like them. The onion rings were amazing. I like when you bite into an onion ring and the whole onion doesn't come sliding out. These were perfect. Very good crunch and flavor. We have already decided that we will be back. This place was hands down one of the highlights of my trip! I'm from California, and I can honestly say this was one of the best hamburgers I've ever had. The RT 10 burger was absolutely incredible--cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. The mac and cheese was rich, creamy, and delicious, and the onion rings were crispy, fresh, and some of the best I've ever tasted. On top of the amazing food, the customer service was outstanding. This is a winner of a location. Fun interior, fantastic specials menu, and amazing staff. We were road tripping and starving but also had dinner plans so we're on the fence about where to stop. When Hungry Bull Burger popped up in our search we decided we'd give it a go and split burgers to keep our lunch on the smaller end. The following is what a group of 4 purchased. We left satisfied and at just the right amount of full to not ruin our dinner plans. What we got: Clam chowder (special) - 5* phenomenal flavor! I could have ordered my own bowl but unfortunately was stuck stealing spoonfuls from my folks. Mac & cheese (plain, side) - 4* pretty good. I'm not a huge mac and cheese fan at restaurants, but my dad is so he wanted to try it. I loved the texture and cheesiness of the dish and wouldn't mind getting it again. They did have several m&c bowl options that looked good. Disco fries - 5* the gravy was delicious and the cayenne pepper added a great touch. Would highly recommend. Hungry Bull is a small, cozy BYOB burger joint and for a Friday night at 6, it was almost full, which was a great sign. I love seeing a local business get that kind of support. The energy was casual, and it felt like the kind of place where word of mouth keeps people coming back. Food & Drink: My son got a plain cheeseburger with American cheese; nothing fancy, just what he likes, and he was happy, which says a lot. He said it was the "best burger ever" and that we "have to come back to this place". I originally ordered the turkey burger with a side salad instead of fries, but there was a mix-up and it came with fries (happy accident). When I mentioned it, the server brought the salad out too, which was fine. The salad itself was fresh, but the ranch was clearly bottled, so a few points off for that (sorry, I am a ranch snob). The turkey burger? The concept and flavors were great but the patty itself was just good, not great. I asked if it was made in-house, and it's not. That would have made it great. Next time, I'd definitely go for a classic beef burger instead. But the real winner? The fries. Give them a medal. Thick, twisted, almost looks like chip-style fries; crispy and golden and really well done. If you've been to Sicily in Middletown, they're very similar (minus the truffle oil- maybe an idea for the future?). Totally the kind of fries you crave later. Service: The server was super friendly and the vibe was relaxed. Even though my order got mixed up, they fixed it quickly. Yup this place is worth the rating! The place is smaller but very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The burgers were sooo good! I got the Rt.10 and it was a delicious mess! I've driven past this place many times and decided to stop in for lunch when they opened. Small little plaza located next to a liquor store as they have byob policy. Nice atmosphere, quiet and a straight view right into the kitchen. I ordered the hungry bull burger which is topped with brisket and onion rings, and I got sauces on the side, as most places tend to drench their burgers in them. Horseradish crema and a tangy heat BBQ. The BBQ complimented the burger and brisket nicely, but the crema seemed to get lost in it all, only adding a bit of a fatty taste to the burger which was definitely not needed! Great quality and tasty brisket, great quality burger blend and fantastic brioche bun tying everything together. Food was quick to come out and the one server on seemed to also be the chef, but was still very nice, friendly and accommodating. Only issue that I had was when I ordered a milkshake, which mind you is 8 dollars and comes in only one size. I received a plastic cup about 10oz, just ice cream and too much milk making it more not much more than cookies and cream milk. More shocked with the difference in quality more so than the price. Do not judge a book by its cover! It's easy to pass this place, tucked next to a package store, but make sure you double back and go in. What an excellent lunch we had. I had a meatball sub, and my goodness, it was the best I've had in years; a perfect balance of sauce so that the meatballs didn't get overwhelmed. My husband had a chili dog and was gobsmacked at how they managed to elevate a seemingly straightforward dish. They used toasted bread, and the chili was the perfect amount. Hungry Bill Burger is part of a small two store plaza, the other of which is a liquor store. There are several parking spots in the front, and more in the back. The actual restaurant is decently cowboy-ish with wood paneled walls and tables. There are places to hang your coat in a back hallway across from the restrooms. There is a Coke machine and Pepsi for sale on to go orders. The chips are housemade, I believe, with a great crunch and non-greasey finish. The burger was a good size but nice cheese. I splurged on a chocolate milk shake, and it was thick and COLD. The star of the meal was the New England Clam Chowder, a special. 3.50 stars. I have no doubt that Hungry Bull Burger uses quality ingredients, and there is no question that they have excellent service. What shocked me about Hungry Bull Burger was the actual burger itself. It is thoughtfully adorned with an artisanal bun (I believe brioche), and I loved how the sauce appears to have been placed in the center so it doesn't leak all over you while you're eating it. I thought the bacon was fairly nice although probably a bit on the thin side. The caramelized onions are well seasoned and delicious. The patty itself? Well, on the bright side, that is the least salty burger I can remember eating. If you like a low salt burger, then you will absolutely love this one. I am sure they use a quality meat provider (as they do for all their other items) but for me the beef taste was mild to the point of insipid. You have probably heard a number of people talk about their love for the fries here and it makes sense. You can still see the skin from the potatoes, and they are very clearly made freshly in-house. The shape is somewhat unique and I enjoyed them after they had piped down in temperature heat just a little bit. I actually thought the fries were quite superior in comparison to the much lauded burger. Overall, while I would likely pass on the burger on a future visit, there are enough other options to keep a person interested. read more

We came out to visit our daughter who took us to the Hungry Bull Burger. I can see how this place can be overlooked, but is definitely one to stop in and give them a try. We sampled the Disco Fries, which were very good. A definite item to order. We also tried the garlic parm tots that were good. I tried the Brisket sandwich , with the horseradish on the side. Sandwich was excellent. I am not a horseradish type of guy. But I put a little on the sandwich. Hot, but still flavorful. My guests had their special burger, and thought it was excellent. We had lunch at the Hungry Bull today, and shortly after we sat down, we had the pleasure of meeting Raj who brought out the menus along with his megawatt star power of a personality. He was plain old fantastic, and a real pleasure to interact with as we chatted throughout our meal on a variety of subjects. My wife and I both ordered a "Build Your Own' version of their 6-ounce chuck, brisket and short rib burger. The burgers were $9 each and we customized them with some of Hungry Bull's free toppings - Cheddar Cheese, Lettuce Tomato, Red Onion, Jalapenos and Bull Sauce, which is kind of like a Thousand Island Dressing. We told Raj we planned to split an order of Sweet Potato fries, and this is where his customer service went off the charts. He asked us if we had ever been here before, and when we said "no" he strongly suggested we try their regular fries because they were different and very popular. He was so persuasive (almost evangelical) about them that we accepted his recommendation and ordered the regular fries. He was 1,000% correct, those $4.50 fries were amazing. They looked like curved and very thick potato chips but weren't exactly potato chips. Yes, they were crunchy on the outside like chips, but soft in the middle like steak fries. They were unlike any French Fry we have ever had. And the order was plenty for us to share. And then there were the burgers. Big and juicy and flavorful on super fresh rolls with fresh toppings, well they were magnificent. This place has the best burgers in terms of glavor and variety. You do get the option to customize, or get one of their specialty burgers, such as the Route10, they've all been juicy, well seasoned and cooked as requested. Their fries are also good , but we' ve started opting for the sweet potato fries, without the maple glaze. All those need is a pinch of salt, great accompaniment to their burgers. We order in person and get take out, but the dining room is clean, uncluttered, and service always prompt and friendly. Wow. Fantastic find here in Connecticut. For the longest time we've been in search for "the" burger, and I think we may have found it. The restaurant has a selection of different dishes, not just burgers... and they deliver meals that are not only extremely tasty, but innovative as well. My wife had the burger of the week, a pineapple piña colada crating that was incredibly tasty. I opted for one of their menu burgers but was not disappointed. They were able to make to order, and we asked for ours to be cooked medium so they came back to us perfect-- not the usual dry overcooked patty you can get anywhere else. But the fries-- I've never had fries like this. Large wedges that looked like a cross between a crescent moon and surfboards, they were perfectly balanced to be slightly crispy on the outside, but nevertheless retain the flavor of the potato underneath. Honestly-/ if you come, get an order of fries and try a side of a burger. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the staff were so welcoming and amazing. My Yelp Friends Dan R and Daym P have left reviews of this joint that I keep re-reading. I have suggested this place for lunch to my wife for a few weeks and we accidentally went there on a recent Saturday (or was it accidental??). We were actually headed home after failing to find parking at a different place were went to, for lunch. Luckily Hungry Bull was both on my radar, and our way home. I already knew what I wanted when we arrived...the Hungry Bull hotdog which is a delicious 10 inch Martin Rosol hot dog with chili, beer cheese and onion straws. Huge points for the New England Style hotdog roll (the best choice). The dog was delicious. My wife had the French dog which had beer cheese, caramelized onions and chives, both were a hit. You've got to get the fries. They're so simple but special. They should make nachos out of them and put that on the menu!! We also had a GIGANTIC "side" of mac and cheese. It's a little bland but still quite good and it reheated perfectly for a late night bite. I would love to see a "build your own" mac and cheese at Hungry Bull (I'd even ask for cut up hot dogs in it). I had a great experience here. I got their burger well done, but it was not burned and still juicy. It had sone roasted onions and pickles lettuce tomato, was excellent. The brioche bun was so good, and the fries were a unique shape, and so good. I got really full, so I didn't get a milkshake. Service was excellent, they answer all your questions nicely if you have food restrictions. It's a laid back place, lots of parking, in the back, and sone in the front.
