As a West Coaster I always look forward to heading back East for a real grinder versus most of what I find in Cali. ITALIAN COLD CUT GRINDER: -- medium size -- soft bread that is thick and holds up to the meat and dressing easily -- I like that it does NOT have that crunchy hard exterior crust -- I added more Italian dressing from our side salad to get it nice and wet style -- in hindsight I wish I had asked to add additional meats to make it even more diverse and interesting -- another sandwich shop that has gone the way of the Do-do bird used to pile on the meat...I do not need that, but I do like a very diverse Italian grinder with about 4-5 different meats on it -- the pruzitini (black pepper heavy per the net) was as the sandwich maker said "not too black pepper" once everything assembled...I do not like black pepper too much -- cheesecakes and waffle cone cheesecakes looked okay but I am a Basque, ricotta or Chicago cheesecake fan -- cannoli appeared fresh via firm shell but looked light on choc chips, so I vetoed RATING = A NARDELLI's ROOTBEER (yellow label): -- lighter carbonation -- medium sweet or tad more -- not sarsaparilla tasting unfortunately -- slightly old skool taste more like IBC RATING = A- Dad liked his SAUSAGE and PEPPERS grinder. I recently stopped in at the Torrington, Ct Nardelli's, and was pleasantly surprised! It is certainly the nicest Nardelli's I have ever been to, and was greeted as soon as I entered. I met the new owners Silvana Koliqi and her husband. I was impressed by how clean and well arranged it was. Definitely a nice place to sit and dine. Everything looked freshly prepared, including the prepared dinners and salads. I had a great sandwich, and bought their eggplant parmigiana dinner with Mamma's marinara and both my wife and I enjoyed it for dinner. Nardellis is exactly what it appears to be - a sandwich shop. (I bet their bread is even considered bread in Ireland, looking at you, other-will-not-be-named sandwich shop) The quality of the meat is good, although I'm not sure why a standard sandwich only requires a piece of cheese. This may just be my long-standing pet peeve, but why do I need to say extra cheese just to get two slices? The sandwich making is pretty clean, there is no extraneous lettuce or fixings from prior orders crossing with your order. It's been several years since I've eaten at a Nardelli's, the last time was the Waterbury location. I wasn't really impressed with the franchise at that time, so I never returned. One night recently, my wife wanted me to pick up an Italian combo grinder for her, and I had some of her sandwich -- I have to admit, it was pretty tasty. So I've been back a few more times to the Torrington location. Sandwiches are very good, and the selection of desserts is fantastic (mainly different types of cheesecakes & cannolis). Staff have been very friendly too, on all my visits. I'd say this Nardelli's location is a solid 4 Star rating. I will continue to be a regular customer. read more

Having been to their Waterbury and Glastonbury locations before, we were happy to see that Nardelli's had opened up a new location in Torrington, right next to the BJ's Wholesale Club we visit every once in a while. We were between meals when we walked in, and weren't exactly sure what we wanted for dinner, so we decided to order on the light side to give us some flexibility. We just ordered a quarter pound of tuna salad and a cup of their beef chili. Had we ordered sandwiches, I know they would have been great because everything we saw in their refrigerated cases looked just as wonderful as what we were used to seeing in their other locations. While we waited for our food to be packaged, I looked around their bright and spacious dining room - it still looks brand new and was clean as a whistle. The server who helped us was courteous and professional, and when we got home, I noticed he had placed a strip of masking tape over the soup container to eliminate any threat of spillage. That was a nice touch. Honestly, I loved the chili. It was very meaty and had a lot of flavor. Zero complaints whatsoever. No doubt we will be back to grab a grinder or two. We just attended a one-year-old's birthday gathering which was catered by Nardelli's. Our accommodating host order a plater of Vegan Italian Combo Wraps for us. We were first surprised at how full and convincing they looked. I was skeptical that they were actually vegan. They were on a whole wheat wrap and stuffed with plant based meat (which was reminiscent of salami), vegan mayo and cheese and lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, and onions. They were delicious. The wraps were tight, and the fillings were incredibly satisfying. We're typically not "alternative meat" consumers, but when we are, we love when it's done right, and Nardelli's did it right. With multiple locations throughout the area, I'm sure we'll find ourselves at one in the future. read more

They are okay. I ordered a pepperoni grinder with the works. When I got hone it was your average grinder with a bigger bun that nice but...when I looked inside the grinder, there was a fair amount of everything in it except for the pepperoni...the grinder was lacking. The taste of it was good but the pepperoni was lacking flavor. This is not my 1st or 2nd choice for a sandwich shop. They could learn a lot from Jimmy's store when it comes to sandwich making. Grinders are big and stuffed full. But I was disappointed that when eating my grinder today, I found THREE separate hairs in it. Stopped by after placing an order online (COVID). The online experience was easy and my order was ready in the promised 15 min. Unfortunately the cost was outrageous for the food!! The ham & cheese 1/2 grinder was fine for the BF, but my chef salad had hardly any meat / cheese - a few olives and mushrooms- and almost all greens. I asked for extra dressing, which was $1.29. I would guess the location is problematic for this franchise owner. No visibility from the main road. I am surprised by the negative reviews and I trust things are being worked out. We've been in three times in the last 2 months and have found the grinders to be consistently good. Generous portions, fresh ingredients, well constructed and nicely presented. We have not had bad service during any visit. Another reviewer mentioned the "bell" ringing. It may be a Nardelli's "thing", but I don't think it adds to the experience. Plus, the cashier cannot pronounce the word "grazie" (one reviewer thinks they shout "Yahtzee"). I think Torrington folks (lots of Italians!) would find that annoying and kind of fake. And we don't need to be applauded for tipping, do we? But I digress. It's a hard business. If you haven't given them more than one chance, consider it. I personally have been to this Nardelli's at least 4 times and love it every time! I do admit though that I am hooked on their steak and cheese in a tomato wrap so I have not tried much else except for a couple of desserts! The first time I went there, my daughter introduced me to it and we had a wonderful experience eating there. We sat at a table, however I do like the little chair and couch atmosphere also. Most of the other times we've eaten there have been takeout orders. We really enjoy having this new grinder shop in town. They are different from other grinder shops and that is what makes it a great experience! You definitely have a choice here in Torrington as far as grinder shops go! If you haven't tried Nardelli's, you must. I look forward to my next visit there, which will be in about 10 minutes! LOL read more

Was here yesterday the food is good; the manager is extremely rude. He talked to me like I was a nuisance who he was doing a favor to and didn't even change his tune one iota when I left a sizable tip to try and help them out since business is probably slower than normal. If you're consider a grinder go across the street to Jimmy's and support a real local business and not a soulless quasi-local chain. Very confusing operation. When ordering, the person taking your order takes one thing at a time and takes off to make it. Doesn't write anything down, which leaves it open for mistakes, that did happen. You want 3 or 4 sandwiches, you do this 3 or 4 times. Inefficient and annoying. It seems like there are too many people behind the counter bumping into each other, but that's none of my business. They can hire as many people as they like. The more the better I suppose. Have been there 3 times since they opened. The sandwiches were OK for the most part. I personally did not care for the "classic mix" at all that I had on my Italian combo the first visit. I scraped the rest off and made it much better for my taste buds. Cold cuts, cheese, lettuce tomato, olives and bread were fresh and tasty (but they're suppose to be, no?). My wife had chicken salad on Militi bread and really liked it. Meatball grinder was OK, the meatballs don't taste like they're made in house though. Grilled chicken grinder was a looser. The chicken was dry and tasteless. Cole slaw, macaroni, potato salads are over powered with onion, and will really jack up the tab at the register, as will any of the "other available" breads or "additional charge" items. The prices in my opinion are high. Especially the salads and add on's. After 3 visits I don't understand all of the ranting & raving. It's OK, but in no way better, or in some respects even as good as some other long time Italian sandwich shops in Torrington. When CT Magazine did their rating, they obviously did not try any of them. Maybe because of advertising and a "monkey see - monkey do" effect, people are going woo-woo, but comparing apples to apples I personally don't see it. I have heard such wonderful things about this place and now I am so disappointed. My husband and I placed an online order today March 6, 2018 before the snow storm around lunch time. You have to prepay for your order which we were happy to do. Our order was supposed to be ready at 12:31. My husband went to pick up said order at 12:45. When he arrived the order was not in fact ready and he would have to wait until they had served the walk I. Customers before they would start our order. He then (after texting me) insisted that it was not fair or right to delay our PAID IN FULL order simply because it was placed online. The manager expedited the order after that. 1:03 and he is still waiting for this order. Very poor customer service. Hope the food is worth the wait. read more

I go to the in Southington and it's outstanding. I was in Torrington so I stop to get a few. What difference between the two stores. The grinder are smaller in Torrington and the grinder rolls aren't the same. I stick to going to the Southington. 01/10/19 went to the Southington just now asked for a ham grinder with lettuce pickles olives and mayo. (Not hard). When I got back to my office I fine a NASTY grinder. Ham and turkey (which I hate turkey) very little lettuce just BAD. And they weren't busy. She asked me three different time what kind of cheese. This is sad. No time to leave work to get it fixed. Will not eat it the way it was made. Sucks for me. Southington is right there with Torrington. read more

With many grinder shoppes in the area, you will surely not be disappointed with this choice. Not only is the food phenomenal, but the customer service and experience are great. From the time you walk through the door, you are greeted with joy and respect. As you continue your way through the line to place your order, each employee displays nothing but a gracious and courteous demeanor right through to checkout. The service was fast, especially considering the line and amount of orders being taken care of. The owner really seems to have their stuff together, from the cozy home town feel to the exceptional customer service, which seems hard to come by these days When I finally sat to unwrap my sandwich ( Italian combo) I opened to find a sheer master piece of a sandwich. All the meats and topping were so precisely placed with care and not just all slopped on and thrown together. As I raised the sandwich to my mouth, not only could you see the use of fresh quality meats but smell them as well, this is what puts this sandwich above the rest. We went to the Torrington location last night. I have celiac disease and can't eat gluten. The young man behind the counter asked if it was an allergy and when I told him yes, he immediately removed his gloves, washed his hands and put on new gloves. He put a paper barrier down as not to cross contaminate my food. I was impressed since not too many restaurants understand cross contamination with gluten. I was happy they had good gluten free rolls too! The food was great and my boyfriend loved their connolis. They have a lot of menu options. The staff was friendly and quick. I went here last year when they first opened and ordered a chicken cutlet grinder and it was the worst grinder ever. I have gone to the Waterbury (original location) and always great!!!
