We rented a 30' B-class rv from them for our trip east for 9 days. It's our first time rv-ing. We searched the internet and call around for pricing. We also went to a few places to check out the condition of the rv for rent. This place was not the cheapest, but it has the newest selections and a backup camera in each rv which is a plus. Their quote seems high, but everything was included (taxes, cleanup charges, extra mileage, etc.), so we won't be surprise by additional charges when we return. read more

Renting an RV is like renting a car, with the one exception that most of us don't drive big RVs every day. The folks at 83RV do a great job making you comfortable with the whole process, very low key, very reassuring. For me and my family this was a new experience. Most of our vacations are road trips in the family car. We wanted to try RVing and we will definitely do it again thanks to 83 RV. After searching the web, they are very competitively priced and enjoyable to rent from their business. Just like a rental car, you need to replace what you use, gas, propane, etc. You need to fix what you break and you pay for days and miles. You need to return it clean, but not spotless. I paid for the clean-up service as a convenience. Spend some time on you-tube learning the basics. Also be straight with the folks on your intentions. If you are going to be playing video games alot or cooking in everyday, they will provide you tips. I have no complaints as this went as smooth as I could imagine. Being that it was my first time renting one, he took his time in asking what my needs were and recommend the perfect vehicle for our family trip to Chattanooga, TN for my brother's wedding. My niece even proclaimed as we departed, "This is the best day ever!!!' It really was about making memories with the three generations of family. We rented a 21' Class C RV for a roadtrip from 83RV. After having read reviews, we had a large number of questions prior to signing the contract (and after). Everyone we spoke with was extremely helpful and patient to answer all of our questions and ease our concerns- particularly regarding extra charges, etc. We ended up renting the RV and could not have been happier. We had several phone numbers (including personal cell phones) to call if there were any problems at all, but we didn't need them. The orientation to the vehicle was informative and, even though we had never utilized an RV before, we found the process painless and extremely fun. The experience was exactly what we hoped for and we were pleasantly surprised by the full return of our security deposit. We can't wait to rent again! read more

I just wanted to write and share the great experience we had with 83RV when we rented a 23-foot motorhome with them this summer. Although I've camped in a tent many times, this was a brand new experience for us as we took a tour of the West before relocating back to the UK. We rented our motorhome for 60 nights (no typo - 2 months, I think this is the longest they've ever rented a unit for!) and we couldn't have hoped for a better experience. To start with, the motorhome was new - about 5500 miles on the clock, 2014 model - and it had all the conveniences we could have wanted including oven, microwave, TV/DVD, shower. But what I really appreciated was the way Mark and the team took us through all the workings of it, showed us how everything worked and how to correct any minor issues. They were very patient with a new renter like me, and Mark was available 24/7 for any issues that cropped up. That said, we really didn't have any major difficulties, which after 2 months and 6300 miles I was pretty impressed with! We were delighted with the service, with the unit and everything that went to make our vacation a very special memory for us and our kids (age 6 and 9). It's not often you get the chance for a vacation like this and for us to have had such a good experience with 83RV really capped it off for us. Thanks guys! read more

We rented an RV for the first time ever, (35 foot class A) and 83 RV made it an incredible experience from the beginning back in January, to the pick up last week, and the return one week later. The entire staff took the time to answer the multitude of questions that I asked, and made sure that we knew how all systems of the RV worked. The rental was in great shape (They buy NEW units every year for the rental fleet), and the team gave us there personal cell numbers to call when we were on the road if we had any questions, and they always either answered the call, or promptly returned it as soon as they could. In addition, we knew up front, every cost that would be associated with the rental. This is a class operation, and if we decide to do another RV adventure, there is no doubt that it would be with 83 RV! read more

Wow. I wish I had checked this before I rented from these bums. My wife and I rented a pop-up camper for a family trip in October. We reserved our camper in August, plenty of time before the trip. The day before we were supposed to pick up the camper, a Tuesday afternoon, I get a call from Brett saying "We're closed tomorrow, you have to come pick up the camper today." Why did you book the camper two months ago if you were going to be closed on the pick up day? No explanation, he just said "Pick it up today or we will leave it outside the gate with the door key under the steps. Good luck!" I should have canceled the order then! Against our better judgment, my wife left work early to pick up the camper. I asked Brett to please include written instructions on how to put up and take down the camper as my wife and I had never been in a pop-up before. No such luck. He ran through the setup procedures with my wife as quick as he could and got her off the lot. Needless to say, it was an adventure figuring that camper out over the next few days. At least we had family familiar with these things. We returned the camper the day it was due with no issues. Brett said he would have the camper looked over and would not charge us for cleaning due to the pick up issue. He said he would get us an email with the refund info that day. I received the email that evening with no unusual charges. A full 10 days later, I STILL DON'T HAVE THE $500 REFUND! The secretary says there is nothing she can do because she is not on the company bank account. Every time I call I get the runaround and no one will talk to me about the deposit refund. If this is not resolved soon, it will be time to get the lawyers involved. SHOP AROUND BEFORE BOOKING WITH THESE PEOPLE! read more

We purchased a rental unit from 83RV and have had nothing but positive service and contact with everyone there. When we purchased the unit we receive probably the most comprehensive demonstration on how every item worked on the unit. This was our third motorhome, and the previous dealerships never put this much effort into making sure we understood everything and we were satisfied. Do not rent from 83 RV unless you hire an attorney and are prepared to have an unhappy experience. I rented an RV and drove out to Las Vegas from Chicago and back to Chicago from Las Vegas. When I turned it back in I was hit with all the hidden extra costs. These extra costs were hidden in the agreement and in very small fine print. They were wrong to add additional charges for extra miles, 2 missing hubcabs, propane, and even for 1 roll of toilet paper, really? They claimed someone stole the hubcabs and I was responsible for them at a cost of $400. Really? How am I suppose to monitor the hubcabs 24 hours a day and never leave the RV, give me a break. How ridiculous. If they are that popular to steal, why did 83 RV not tell me that and more importantly why did they not lock these on to help prevent the alledged theft. I am not convinced that they were stolen. I still think that they fell off from the severe vibration during the trip on some extremely rough roads.They insisted to me that they were stolen. How do they know since they were not ther?. I should not have been charged for their lack of vehicle preparation and knowledge, totally a rip off. I was originally informed that there were an extra 100 miles a day extra. This is in large print. However, they have this unique way of making it look like you get an extra 100 miles a day but you really do not.They hide it by alledgedly computing your projected milage at a lower rate with this unique equation. I still do not understand their "creative math". To me this was smoke and mirrors and not being clear on the agreement. I am completely unhappy with the owners of the company since they offer no compromise on any issue. It cost me over $4,000 to rent the RV from the original projected cost of $3,200. Almost $800 in additional charges for a little over one week time period. Unfortunately for me and prior to the rental I gave them extra business for installing a $500 trailer hitch on my car. This I would not have done this I assure you, if I had known how unfair they are. Even though I purchased the pre cleaning charge of $150 I spend over an hour to vacume and wipe down the counter tops in the RV prior to returning it. They still charged me and did not even thank me. I bought a small mirror to place onto thier larger one since the origininal one fell off from vibration. I did not charge them for buying it even though it cost me about a $100 for my time and part cost. They never offered to compensate me for the mirror. Again, I recommend going to another rental company, if you want to be treated fairly. The 83 RV owners need to know that they have no customer service skills, no compromise, and have a smoke and mirror rental agreement with hidden extra costs in fine print. We purchased our unit from 83 many years ago and continue to take it there for service. Ed and the service crew are second to none, honest, and fix it right the first time. This last time we took it in for our spring service and they found a leak that would have damaged the unit. After the pressure test and resealing the coach, it not only was fixed, but the job they did looked better that when we purchased it. Since I'm from Europe I rented a C30 with slide-out online. I got quoted for it and after a telephone conversation with Bret I agreed to the rental of 2 weeks. When we arrived I was surprised to see that we only got a 28 foot with no slide-out; model FL2890QB. Discussing with Bob, Bret was on leave (probably with our C30), did not help as he argued that this is all they had. The first night we already found out that the porch light didn't work, and some of the lights inside neither. The CO alarm started working at 6am, and only with the engine battery switched on it would shut up. I only found this out after being awake for an hour trying to get the stupid thing silent. The toilet lid (the thing that moves when you flush the toilet) didn't seal properly, making the camper smell. That was not an issue when parked because the smell would disappear via the hatch. When driving however the smell entered the cabine. Luckily I quickly found out that opening the 2 back windows slightly would solve that. The sewer hose was only 6 foot long. Way too short to comfortably dump as it would always require 2 persons, 1 to hold the end as there was no cap to attach it, and the other to open the levers. This RV was 4 years old, while on their website they promise this- or last year models. When returning after 2 weeks I expected to get a remuneration for all this, but Bret was not willing to give in at all. His excuse that this is normal for rental RVs made me wonder if he knew if what kind of business he's in. I can tell because this is the fifth time we rented an RV in the states, and this is the worst service and RV we had! Conclusion: for those who are not able to see the RV at the spot, don't do business with these brothers! read more

Negatives first so that anyone thinking about renting here will know what to expect. I'm hoping my review will save others some $. I wanted to love this place because the RVs are really quite nice but I found the nickel-and-diming to be exhausting and disappointing. We have not received our final bill and I must say I'm a little nervous. The final bill will definitely determine whether we ever go back. Here is why: 1. When we first visited we were told we would get free extra mileage (over 400 miles) but when we went to rent the RV they would NOT agree to that. 2. They do not tell you their cleaning and tank-emptying fee until you are about to drive away. On the day of pick-up, we went inside and signed the paperwork and paid the agreed price and the agreed security deposit. They gave us the keys and told us to have a good time. We then went outside to learn about the vehicle and take it home and we were told we would be charged an additional $300 upon return if we did not wash the outside, clean the inside and empty the waste before returning. Then, they told us our other option was to pay $125 right then to cover all of that. I had already put my credit card away because I had just paid the "total" and signed the paperwork inside and thought it included tank emptying. I think they do it this way because people are more likely to pay when they are just about to drive off the lot. PLEASE address this fee BEFORE you sign anything so that you know what your ACTUAL total $ amount due will be. Their prices are high enough that they should cover ALL of this in the quoted price that you pay when picking up. 3. We filled the tank before we brought it back but the service person told me it was not Full. My husband had filled the tank before we returned the RV so I was very surprised. I went and looked and it was Full. He had me get into the driver's seat and pointed out that the gauge was on the front part of the F, not the middle part of the F. So, we had to argue about the definition of FULL. They kept threatening to charge us a $40 "service" fee on top of the gas price to go top it off. So disappointing. 4. It is a very expensive place. Be prepared to pay more than other places. Addressing the above issues upfront might help you out. 5. Customer service just kind of stinks. JUST FYI: While we were on the road, I went back to get some water out of the fridge. My shoulder bumped the mirror on one of the cabinets and it cracked. Thank goodness it did not shatter or wasn't one of the children who did it. When I looked inside, the mirror had only a thin adhesive backing! So, it was a serious accident waiting to happen. A child could put their hand through it. Please be careful of those mirrors. I am waiting to see what they charge us for that cheap mirror (grrr....). Positives: 1. Great RV. New and in excellent condition. Our trip was great. 2. Dave is the best person they have working there. First let me start by saying that I wish I could give a 0 star rating instead of the 1 out of 5 I am required to submit. Things got off to a bad start right at the get go when the older female employee working our check in gave us a miserable welcome. It was obvious we were excited and that almost seemed to feed her annoyance with us, the paying customer. Over the next 20 minutes she managed to tell us every normal thing a renter shouldn't do in the rv and why, including cook food on the stove, use the bathroom, shower, drink alcohol, etc, etc. Her opinion was to essentially do nothing during our rental so she didnt have to do too much paperwork when we returned the rv. We were also told over the phone prior to our arrival that we would have more miles and generator use (both cost $ after you pass a certain threshold) than we actually were given. We brought up that Bret made different promises when we made the initial reservation and we were told by his brother he was out of town and unreachable on the phone. Therefore we were stuck with taking the rental under the current terms or find someone else. Doesn't sound sketchy at all... After that our adventure practically started out with the keys and a good luck. We were given the most basic instructions and had to practically beg the employees for a walkthrough of the controls and operations of the RV. The response we recieved was rolled eyes and annoyed looks. EXCUSE me if I would like to know what I'm doing before I take your vehicle off the lot. They also missed several blatant scratches and broken items on the walkthrough checklist that we needed to point out. No doubt they would have magically shown up on our deposit if we hadn't... They also did not include a grey/black water drain to empty our tanks. Thankfully we were able to borrow someone's at the campground we were staying at, but how absurd is it to not include a drainage hose??? The final insult is when we returned the RV with a full tank of gas and they had the balls to say they needed to add gas and attempted to charge us over $100 for fuel. Problem is we stopped at the gas station next door and filled up right before driving the 100 yards to their location. I would never ever rent from them again. It was a terrible experience with an untrustworthy merchant. Buyer beware indeed! read more

After you get there and think you negotiated a price and a deal, an employee will go through a 20 minute lecture on how they will ding you a $ 100 cleaning if you don't return the unit ultra clean and free of bugs. We rented from 83RV for the first time this weekend! I have got to tell you it was the best experience of my life!!! I have 3 children 7, 14, & 16 that could not stop talking about how awesome the trip we took was. We stayed only on my dad's land in the RV in Northern Wisconsin, but the children I would have to say never really stepped foot in my dads house the entire weekend! They wanted to stay in the RV and explore and really experience all there was. Mark was OUTSTANDING when it came to everything!!! very detailed with how to take care of things and how to have everything work. Just one hour into our trip we started planning our next trip with an RV. I was so sad when we had to return the Bunk House after our trip it was very homey and very nice for us. We spent alot of time in there and even had dinner with my family in it instead of in Grandpa's house!!!! Oven worked awesome!!!! homemade pizza and cinnamon rolls were awesome and smelled great ! Find another place! While all of their rentals are new models which helps with piece of mind when traveling, they will nickel and dime you to death! They charge for everything! Ugh...where do I start? My friends and I were going on a trip for a bachelor party. I called 3 months in advance to book the RV, in which Bret (aka The Swindler) had me look at a 2012 Coachmen B32H BunkHouse RV that sleeps 10-11 people. I was very pleased with what the unit looked like, so I went ahead and booked it. When I arrived to pick up the RV, it was NOT the unit I rented - it ended up being a 2006 31' Coachman Freelander unit that sleeps 6-8 people. When I told the kid that it was not the RV I was told (Bret was conveniently on vacation and there was noone there to make a decision), he pointed out that the one they were giving me matched the one on my contract. Well, who double checks the model numbers? All I know is what I was told by Bret, which was the 2012 32' BH - where else would I get the idea from that I was renting it? Strike One. As they had me between 'a rock and a hard place,' there was nothing I could do other than take the unit they offered me, which ended up being serviceable (despite the lack of sleeping space that I had grown to depend on from the original quoted unit). The weekend started and the first night was fine. However, on the 2nd night, we were having generator problems. It was in the 90's, so you can see how this would become an issue. The office was closed and the emergency number they gave me (which ended up being Bret 'The Swindler" Novak's cell phone) never once returned our calls. This was later unapologetically explained to me by Bret himself as "I get one vacation a year, I was gone for ten days and I had no cell phone service." How professional. Strike two. The final morning, it was time to pack up and go and the slide out motor stopped working. We made another call to 'The Swindler' to no avail, so we put the switch and manual and got a few guys to push it in manually. I returned the RV and was told that I would receive my refund "in a couple days" with an email. Well, ten days go by and I still heard nothing. So I call and ask for a manager. Who do I get? Bret 'The Swindler' Novak - it was at this point I found out him and his brothers run the joint. Lucky me! Bret moaned that he was very busy because of his vacation and had not had a chance to look into my security deposit refuned of $500 yet, once again unapologetically. My refuned ended up being $170! Ole Bret charged me for all generator usage (which I asked for unlimited in my request for quote and forwarded him the email in which I did). He never replied back. That was 72 hours @ $3.00 per/hr! Not only did I not get unlimited, but he charged me for every single hour I used. Which means NO ALLOWABLE GENERATOR USAGE?!? He also threw a $30 propoane charge that was never proposed as a possible charge on the contract. Strike three. It's almost a month later and this issue is still not resolved, but I wanted to get on here and warn eveyone. Beware of this outfit, especially Bret 'The Swinder' Novak. read more

Do your homework. We just had the same experience. They kept our deposit and charged us additional. When we specifically asked about extra charges upfront they said everything was included including the cleaning fee. They never told us about the extra generator cost or propane. When discussing this with owner he said there was nothing he could do and we should have read the contract. What???? We ask specific questions you tell us verbally which is a verbal contract by the way and then you charge us all these additional charges and say we should have known. I will never rent from 83rv again and I had a lot of our family and friends interested in renting when they knew we did. We will refer them to another company and will go out of our way to let people know what they pulled at the end. Sorry Brett for owning a company you must think we are pretty stupid people however we own companies ourselves and would never treat our clients the way you have at the end. It was very disappointing to learn that this company only treats their customers like family when the customer has money. My elderly parents (both 65+) went into 83rv to look at an rv. My mother has severe health issues and they both are on fixed income. My mother also has lost and eye and is on kidney failure. They were under impression they put down $1000 to hold an rv and said they would let them know. One of the owners said that my parents claimed they would be getting a settlement of some sort. Which was not a guarantee to either parties. Needless to say, no monies were coming and in less then 12 hours they called 83Rv and emailed them to tell them they could not purchase the RV and would need the hold money back. This company lacks and ethics or morals To doing the right thing. My husband and I have even tried on my parents behalf to get their money back. A credit is not paying medical bills and medication. We pleaded in hopes they could understand the financial hardship this amount could cause and elderly couple despite what they claimed transpired. The sold the rv that was held for no more then 12 hours and yet refuse to refund my parents. Such a shame. I would never keep such an amount from my "family" if something couldn't workout. Also shame on them for righting up and taking hold money or "deposit" without any firm confirmation of their ability to pay. They should return the money. Bad bad morals. No heart. read more

1ST I Picked up my RV yesterday and was told they were going to cut the 10 dollar a day fee in half from 14 to 7 days. I said u called Saturday I still have the 2 recordings 1st one threatening me with a 10 fee since RV service is done and they don't have space to keep it there. 2nd call telling me it starts today- that is one week today is sat. I paid the bill and get the receipt-when I look at what was done I notice the drawer wasn't on the list. I was given a packet of hardware to fix it myself because they didn't get around to fixing a drawer and I was told I was better off because if they would have fixed it it would have cost me more. It was the first thing I showed them when I brought it in. I asked them to fix an electrical outlet that pops out of the wall, a drawer that fell because the hardware came loose and to check the generator which wouldn't stay running and to do a general check to make sure everything was in working order so I could put it on the market. They charged us a daily fee to keep it there after work was completed but the work wasn't actually complete thanks for the parts so I can crawl around under the cabinets myself. Don't go here please do yourself a favor and avoid this place. read more
