They were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating--every step of the process felt easy and stress-free. We were traveling with our three dogs, and not only did they allow us to keep them inside with us, but everyone there made a point to stop and say hello (and give some pets!). It truly felt like we were among family. We were even able to take important work calls thanks to the comfortable environment. I purchased a Thor Palladium RV in June 2025 from General RV in Huntley, Illinois. This review concerns both the quality of the product and the service provided by General RV and Thor Motor Coach. During its maiden voyage, the unit suffered a major failure while traveling 60 mph in the mountains of Tennessee. It failed again shortly afterward while traveling 35 mph in a subdivision. Despite the RV being under warranty, neither General RV nor Thor acted with urgency to address these serious safety and reliability issues. The RV was only towed to Indiana after the threat of legal action. It then sat for months with poor communication, little follow-up, and no meaningful customer support. After repairs were supposedly completed at the end of October, the RV was placed into storage for the winter. When brought out again in the spring, additional wiring and battery failures occurred, requiring yet another return for repairs. For anyone considering the purchase of an RV, carefully consider not only the product you are buying, but also the dealership standing behind it. In my experience, General RV was willing to sell the product, but far less willing to support it after the sale. I was repeatedly transferred between departments and individuals without resolution. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend either the product quality or the level of customer service provided by Thor or General RV. read more

So, after the review, I received a call from General RV offering to make the repairs and arrange for the trailer to be fixed. It was close to the end of the season and we did not want to give up the last few weeks at the campground, so we made a deal to take it them once the season was over. The end of the season comes, and no response again, a month and a half later, and they want to know who is paying for the repairs. That was mid-November, and here we are, end of January, and again, no response to emails. At this point i am tempted to show up to the Rv show and hand out fliers letting people know what bad costomer service they provide. read more

This was the worst experience I have had with an RV dealer in 25 years of RVing with 3 RVs. They would not answer calls, did not even start on my repairs until after I had to drive up there 1 week after it was due to be repaired, which was a month after I dropped it off. They overchareged me by putting a 1/2 hour extra on every item they were scheduled to do. I now have to fix 2 of the repairs they did my using too small lift cylinders on the lower doors. Finally they lost my only door keys and after giving them several days to find it, with no answer to my demand, I had to have a door key made. Unethical and deceptive Bait and switch sales tactics. Won't fix problems from factory until after they get your money and ruin your credit. My inspector has done hundreds of inspections at this difficult dealer and every one has had problems. They get your money first then you have to stand in line behind all the other 50 buyers and hope to get your new unit in 1 to 3 months after they got your money. They gotcha. Extremely disappointed with the parts department. I ordered multiple camper parts, and several of them arrived incomplete or with missing components. This caused major delays, as my service technician was unable to complete the installations. It is a 45 min round trip to collect these missing items. This was kit the first time, it took the 2 weeks to just email out a repIr quote after making an appointment and sitting in the waiting area for 4 hours. I expected better quality control and attention to detail. Will definitely be considering other suppliers in the future unless they make serious improvements. read more

Do not I repeat do not but the ECP coating. This is snake oil and you will have to jump through hoops to try to get anything done about the exterior of your vehicle. Keep the money and take care of the exterior yourself. This will not stop black streaks and they will tell you to file a warranty. I guarantee they did not put a product on. When I called corporate to make a complaint they knew I was asking about the ECP before I could even mention it. So that tells me they get people calling and complaining about it all the time. Again they are turning into Camping World where they dont care about the customers. They only want to steal your money. When I traded in my Grand Design MLE22 they moved my Blue Ox Pro swap system to the new Brinkley I265 I bought from them. That I have had out on a couple of trips and still get used to pulling it. Since the dealer also sells Blue Ox I did not check the hitch ball height until this trip. I found it rather than being one inch higher than the trailer coupler it is six inches higher. I guess you need to check their work. read more

I was traveling to Marengo over Christmas holidays in my Class C motorhome. I needed propane and a tech to look at one of my sliders that was out of sync. They pulled my Sprinter into the shop and 30 minutes later, all done! They didn't even charge me for the repair on the slide out! If you're traveling on Tollway 80 near Huntley, IL I highly recommend stopping. Very well stocked for any supplies you may need too. read more

General RV in Huntley IL cost me $6,000. For the past 3 seasons I've had them winterize my camper and last summer (2023) I asked them to install vent covers to the two roof vents. I bought the vent covers in store & their "technicians" installed them. This summer (2024) I discovered a roof leak. I religiously check my seals & seams before & after each trip so I was surprised. After dealing with insurance I took the camper to a recommended repair shop in Waukegan who discovered the source of the leak : the vent covers installed improperly, screwed down to the roof. General RV is terrible and cost my family thousands of dollars out of pocket on top of the insurance claim. If I could give 0, or negative, stars I would! read more

I have had a great experience with General RV. in Huntley. From making my purchase to recently when I had to get some warranty work. I got there early for my appointment and was able to sit and watch as their team went over the units that were there. When it came to my turn, Justin Sasman and another service advisor listened to my concerns and wrote everything up as well as labeled the stops with easily observable blue tape for the technician. My repairs were done quickly. Nobody wants to have to get repairs done but they happen and with the team at General RV it was done quickly, professionally and with minimal stress to me. Wish we would've read through these reviews prior to our purchase. Tom, our sales rep, was an awesome guy and we have nothing negative to say about him. We did, however, pull off the lot with a used 2016 Jayco Jayflight that had FULL black and grey water tanks from the previous owner. GROSS. There isn't a dump site in our area open for two more days. The woman who did our walkthrough with us and made notes of a couple of things to have the techs look at denied any responsibility in the matter despite seeing the tank indicator lights during this walk through reading full. Whoever is in charge of final walkthroughs here dropped the ball. When I called for assistance, not one employee including the manager was willing to come and assist with the tire. They said we close in a couple minutes. As a business owner myself, I always as well as my employees go the extra mile even if it's after hours. Sales people were clueless as to their inventory and just randomly walked around outside showing campers but didn't know the prices. They have golf carts but no clue who can use them. I had a handicapped family member and we'd asked if she could be driven in the golf cart but were denied. Sales people should know their product line. General RV Huntley IL sales department ranks BELOW Camping World. I have dealt with both now and WOW did General RV sales fail me. We first looked at our rig in April 2022 and there was RV antifreeze all over the floor. We were not ready to get it yet so we had to walk. In October of 2022 they still had the same unit. Should have been a red flag but we looked at it again. Same mess on the floor. Asked sales guy (Steve W.) about it. He said not to worry and all would be checked out. We worked out a deal and purchased it. When we picked it up all was cleaned up and we had a few other issues to resolve. One was a trim piece that was loose on the slide. He said they would get it fixed before we took delivery. They just pumped in a BUNCH of caulk and put a deep scratch in the paint below the slide. Total mess up. Now we open it up in spring and same mess on floor. Take it back in to fix the scratch they put in the fall (we are about 100 miles away and waited until we got it out of storage). Also found a leak in the water system shutoff valve to the ice maker. This was the source of the fluid and never got fixed. Now sales are telling me "we don't remember any of this" and that it is on me to fix. Steve takes all his notes on a small note pad and does NOT move them to the "official paperwork". So nothing was ever documented. My fault for taking him at his word. AND GUESS WHAT. I had to fix the problem myself and it was just a bad connection on the valve. Something that should have been covered under warranty but General RV would not even look at it. So overall I do NOT recommend buying anything from General RV. Run, don't walk from General RV in Huntley IL. We purchased a 2023 Tifton Phaeton in October 2022. Prior to a walk thru for delivery we had exterior detail work done to the coach. We arrived to to a walk thru prior to delivery about 2 weeks post purchase. At that time we were appalled at the long list of items that were damaged and broken. (Cracked stove top, windows that wouldn't close, wood work literally falling off, art work cracked, floor damage, dash damage...) At the price point we were working with, it casted a dark cloud over the experience. We arrived in our trade to do said walk thru with the intention of leaving in our new coach. After such a bad walk thru with zero care or concern, more importantly any type of apologies, we wanted to discuss our options for a different coach or cancellation until they could perfect the misses. At that point we were greeted with nothing but awful service and rude managers. It was no different than any other disappointment of other reviews. We were lied to. We were then threaded and told if we didn't take delivery and tried to leave in our own vehicle they "would call the state police" and "they've seen things go south real fast" as well as the comment that if we tried to take this to court "they are a bigger company and they will win and then we will have this bus and big bills" Shocked and disappointed is how we ended up leaving, in the rental car they ordered for us. A month and 1/2 later of staying in a hotel, we received a call saying our motor coach was completely finished. During this time of being without our coach, we called, emailed and tried checking in with various managers all to no avail. A month and 1/2. Also during this time our coach remained on their website as available for sale. Today is Tuesday, we picked up on Friday and drove home. Despite the long list of items that were supposed to be repaired, only 1/2 were addressed. We have a passenger window that looks like the living dead tried to claw through. We have a floor with scratches. We have electrical issues that caused our slide outs to go wonky- then doing major damage. We have no heat for diver and passenger. We noticed the later while driving home. Exhausted we decided to call the next day where we were told to "google it if you can't figure it out" The laundry list of disappointments is long. The coach as a product seems relatively decent. The handling with this particular outlet, worst ever, and this isn't our first rodeo. I can recommend an RV outlet along 55 south of Chicago. Or another in southern IL. I can not, however, tell you to do any type of business with General RV. They are slick, fast talking with zero results. They will take you for every dime and make sure you say thank you whilst doing so! Save the headaches and extra charges- go elsewhere. read more

We bought a class A Thor Miramar from them. This was our 3 purchase from them. It was a lemon, in and out of the shop multiple times. within the first year we needed the floor fixed( they just glued the floating floor), all of the kitchen drawers caved in, water coming in through the slide on our first trip, replaced one slide, outlets not working, we still do not have complete use of our cameras, all of the bins were showing rust when purchased (they promised to scrape and spray them (they did not), doors on the outside of the rig wouldn't close or open easily, headlights were not working, couch came dismounted, cabinet hardware needed to be repaired, heat plate was falling off, there was a hole in our water tank and the list goes on. Right after our one year mark we went in and said water was still coming in. we recorded it. They agreed to make one final "fix" on the rig. They said they found a small hole and were gonna fit it. About 6 months later we took it in for regular service and were told we had roof damage and it wound be $16,000 to repair. They said we could file through insurance they do it all the time. We tried. The tech that originally looked at the rig and told us he'd fix the small whole told my insurance company they told us there was a whole and we did not want to fix it. I have the paperwork that says they did fix it...our claim was denied. We went to a body shop that specializes in rvs and they said it was actually just a $300 repair. they filled it and reprotected the roof. General RV said $16,000... Today it is exactly 3 years after the original purchase. we still have water coming in and we took our rig to a new shop since we can't trust General RV and now we are being told that since they glued down our floating floor to "fix" it it will be $30,000 to fix the floor that is now rolling up. We just had to have the microwave reinstalled because it was originally installed incorrectly and fell. read more

By contract you have to sue them by arbitration in Michigan. That's my next step. The difference in value between the two model years is $50,000 in the current market. Bought a Momentum 25G in 2020. Tom our salesman was great knowledgeable and helpful. This year we had service done and bought new tires. When we looked at the serial number two of the tires manufactured in 2023 and one in 2016 and the other in 2018. We immediately called and they said we will replace the tires. They put to new tires on one was manufactured in 2023. The other in 2021. When we complained. They said that was "the luck of the draw". There policy is as long as the tire was manufactured in the last 6 years they will sell it. So beware if you buy tires from them they maybe "new" but have been laying around somewhere for up to 6 years! read more

I regret buying a camper from General RV in Huntley IL. They hype up their extended warrantees and lead you to believe that it's a bumper to bumper warrantee. I have a 2022 that I bought new in 2023. Our trailer stays at a permanent site all year round. We noticed some minor issues and a major issue. Minor issue was hot water heater was not blowing a good flame, power awning was side-tracking as it was rolling in, gutter system was leaking where the 2 pieces met, kitchen counter was cracked because I believe was from over-tightening the faucet. When we were winterizing this past season, we noticed discoloration of the floor in the corner and trim molding was brittle. I towed it there in the offseason for all these repairs. After over a month having my camper there, I was charged $550 for the minor issue repairs. They said none of those repairs were covered under my $5000 warrantee. They then told me that they can't find the leak and didn't replace any trim pieces. Instead they just thru it on the counter. I would warn anyone not to buy extended warrantee. My husband and I went to trade out RV and, as a woman, let me tell you this company acts like you don't exist. From our salesperson. Darrel to the finance man, they barely gave me eye contact . The finance man made decisions on our behalf and without our consent, hid options in financing to increase our payout rate, and completely removed me from the loan, for no reason other than 1 or 2 percent difference , and then had the nerve to say I told him I wanted it that way ! My fifth wheel has been in their shop for 5 weeks to address three warrantee issues that had been approved for months. Bought a new fifth wheel from General RV in Huntley, IL last spring. During the walk around we noticed two items that needed attention. After numerous calls and at least two emails with photos the warrantee work was not approved when it was time to store the rig. Not a big deal, I said - let's be sure to have everything ready in the spring so we can get it all done early. General agreed. In February I set up service for April when I got the camper out of storage and reviewed the items needing attention. I also added service to the front AC since it had failed late in the previous season. Dropped the rig off on April 22 to have an awning aligned (out of square and wouldn't allow the door to fully open) and have the sill on the front window repaired (was badly cracked - presumably from sun exposure on the lot prior to purchase). I made it clear to their service people that we had a trip planned for May 3 and May 17. Since dropping it off, it has been one thing after another. Numerous excuses and renewed warrantee approvals for some reason. Calling four times a week doesn't seem to instill any urgency. I have missed two trips already and most likely will miss our Memorial Day adventure as well. Can't begin to express my disappointment. Just wanted to warn others of my issues. Absolute worst experience I've ever had at ANY business. In 2019 I bought an RV off the lot after my second visit. We had a quote from our first visit with us which they promised to match. However the paperwork they presented to us was hundreds higher. We threatened to walk but realized they doubled one of the charges. Months later we returned for warranty work to replace a furnace fan. They scheduled a time to bring in the 5th wheel. But only to diagnose. I was told I would be contacted to come back when the part arrived. I was stunned that they didn't have the part but I was told it would be a 1 hour job when it came. Several weeks later I was scheduled to bring it in AGAIN to do the repair. They refused to keep it there because "... we've had too many damaged while on our lot". I told them I would wait so they could leave the RV attached to the truck. One hour later I tracked down my service rep to get the status. "I'll go find out". I heard nothing for another hour so I went back to the service rep and asked again. "I'll go find out". Nothing again. It's now been three hours and I'm steaming. This time I asked for a manager. "I'll go find out". "The repair man is having problems replacing the fan". I decided to go back into the service area and detach my truck so I could leave. It's been nearly 4 hours now. No apologies, no explanation. Days later I was called to schedule a pickup of the repaired RV. "Just sign this repair order and you can take your RV". "Absolutely not" I said. "I haven't even seen it yet!" I'll never be back, not even to buy a roll of toilet paper, and I recommend you stay away as well. read more

Sold my second RV two weeks ago (class C) and drove an hour to this location to look at and perhaps purchase a travel trailer camper today. I told the salesman (Darrel) that I'd like to look at what they had and compare for myself. Instead he started asking the usual customer contact info questions and provided the info. He then seemed to have a two page list of questions he wanted to go through with me, that I was not interested in answering, wearing a mask, sitting inside the store. I again reiterated that I'd much rather j go out and physically look at the units first. Darrell then got upset and says "go right ahead" and points me to the lot. Most of the RVs were locked and I was unable to see inside them. I'm sure Darrell knew this when he sent me out there. Upon coming back inside, he sees me coming toward him and runs to the back room to avoid speaking with me. Disgusted with this poor level of service, I just left. The fault here isn't entirely Darrell's. The poor customer service Darrell put forward on this visit can only occur if the management culture at General RV enables it and allows it to occur. It's not something that happens over night and reading the reviews on here, it's clear that this is not an isolated incident. I refuse to support an organization that does not emphasis basic decent manners and customer service. I would not recommend any one do buisness with this facility. read more

I bought a travel trailer from this company. They were close to my home and I new I would need service for the trailer. I tried to use them several times but it was always a nightmare. They seldom fixed the problem I brought the trailer in for and in most cases broke something else in the process. I now do all my own maintenance and repairs. Recently I tried to get a part for my water heater but the part department manager could not locate the part despite me giving her the make, model, serial & VIN numbers. I just wanted to take a moment to express what a great experience we had with General RV in Huntley, IL in purchasing our first motorhome. Each time we walked in the door, before the door even closed behind us, we were greeted with a warm and smiley "Hello, how can I help you today?" greeting. The person with whom we had an appointment would be there in less than a minute to take us back to his desk. We had our eye on a Class A Tiffin diesel motorhome from the company's website and we waked through it at the Chicago RV Show last month. We met Kris Kilpatrick at the show, and he took good care us at the dealership prepping the RV for another walkthrough and answered any questions we had. He even gave us a mini walkthrough and some tips on how to overcome some issues that may arise while using the motorhome. Kris is very knowledgeable about Tiffin motorhomes. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to work with him. After more discussion and setting up our account, he shook our hands and congratulated us on our new motorhome. We were so excited! We then were led to Faraon Ocampo's desk who started the financial process. This is an area that I find very intimidating and complicated but Faraon made it all so easy. He created a checklist of documents that he needed, and we emailed documents back and forth for a day or two. When we arrived for our scheduled walkthrough to teach us how to use the RV, he had all the paperwork ready - sign here, sign there, initial here - he even had a notary available on site! It was so easy, and I know it was Faraon's expertise that made it so. Thanks, Faraon! Lastly, a big shout out to Jim Gordon and Ellen Semon for such a great and thorough walkthrough. I had heard that they allow videotaping of the walkthrough appointment, but we decided to take notes instead. It was kind of funny as we joked with Jim that he was stuck teaching a couple of "newbies, but he took it in stride. Jim's sense humor came out throughout the four-hour session and his instruction was very good on how to use the motorhome and all the safety best practices to keep in mind to keep us safe. He even shared with us many tips on how protect our new investment that we had not heard of before. We ended up with pages of notes and a short list of small items that we need to buy to improve our RV experience. Thanks, Jim for such a great experience, you even had a way to make the wet bay not seem so daunting! Levers down then open the cap . . . LOL!!! One of the reasons we decided to do business with General RV in Huntley was their promise to get us in for service immediately should we run into a catastrophic failure. We have heard stories of people having to wait weeks and weeks for repairs! Their "Keep You Camping" program really sets our mind at ease. In closing, if the level of service we have experienced thus far is any indication of the service we may need down the road for our Tiffin I feel we will be in very good hands! Never called manufacturer for warranty work or followed thru on it. Ended up taking to another dealer. In 2 days, we've had more information. The one thing we needed fixed was the frig as it wouldn't work on propane. Turned out to be a loss wire. Why couldn't their techs find it? Won't recommend going to General RV read more

I usually don't do reviews. I like to read them when looking at dealerships/service centers, etc. I just don't write them. Not having General RV's # saved to my phone, I do a quick Google search and one of the top results is "Yelp". Some of the reviews just don't match my experience. Last year we stopped at a local "small" RV show and talked to a few dealerships. My wife and I are getting closer to retirement and were discussing travel trailer options. The rep from General RV was very helpful and they actually carried the trailer we wanted to look at. Unfortunately they didn't have it at the show. We went the next day to the Huntley location where they had the exact trailer we wanted to see. We were greeted at the door and allowed to walk around at our leisure. We found the trailer we wanted to look at, had some questions, so we went back into the building to seek out a salesman. Long story short, we loved it, the deal was great and we bought it 5yrs before we actually planned. We purchased the Keystone Outback 324cg (Side load toy hauler). After a couple trips out we noticed that the ramp door was retaining water. I called General RV and made an appointment to have it looked at. While I was there they found an issue with the auto leveling system. I ended up leaving it there so they could troubleshoot everything. Within a couple days I received a call saying they were pulling in a Keystone representative b/c the particular leveling system was new to them. I'm always impresses by some willing to admit they need help vs just making blind attempts. Again, long story short, The service department did right by me. Definitely would recommend this location to all my friends. I'm going back really soon to get the slide out awnings that I should have gotten added originally. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I am a previous employee of GRV Huntley. My last day of employment was 3/30/2022. The next pay period/final paycheck was to be 4/8/2022. It is now 4/15 and I have yet to get my final paycheck. Upon calling corporate office I was told they have yet to verify that my uniforms have been returned and will not issue my check until they receive notification of that. It is a Illinois state law, that an employer cannot withhold a paycheck for any reason and previous employees are to be paid no later than the next pay period. Corporate payroll notified me that I apparently signed a contract stating these terms however, I find it hard to believe that their contracts trump state laws, these laws apparently do not apply to GRV. My uniforms were returned 3/28 to the designated area. Here we are, Day 16 and I have yet to receive my paycheck. This company and all of its practices are shady and not consumer friendly. I would highly recommend staying from this company with shady practices and definitely DO NOT SEEK EMPLOYMENT HERE! Low wages, high expectations. Terrible benefits. read more

BEWARE. Nice folks when you buy the camper but don't expect any kind decent servicing from that department. We bought our camper this year. 2021 Wildwood Heritage Glen by Forest River. Beautiful camper. The problems started as soon as we took the 1st trip. Water leaked into the trailer while driving in a rain storm. I took it in. They said it was coming from the front belly doors. I told them no, it's leaking in under the slide. They ordered a new door and seal for the front door. Next trip guess what?? More water. A lot this time. They said it was the other box door and replaced it. Nope. Next trip.. same thing!! They said it was the man door seal and fixed it. NOPE!! Just got home from strip and only drove in the rain the last 15 minutes. It's a good thing because...you guessed it! Soaked inside. We have had a few other problems which I would expect but at this point I'm done. Social media time and an attorney soon if they don't get their heads out of their butts and do right by me. NEVER BUY A CAMPER HERE UNLESS YOU DON'T EXPECT OR NEED A SERVICE DEPARTMENT WORTH A $&#%. read more

Giving one star to this RV company is to much. I'm pasting a partial review from one other customer, and there is many more like this. Anyone considering General RV must to do a YouTube search. "General RV Fox News" It details multiple counts of fraud. My experience supports the news story. They stole my 5,000 deposit. They didn't allow me to test drive the RV, I proceeded with the purchase anyway. After I sign the papers they told me the they will mail me the documents, I never got to see finance rates or nothing, So after discussing this with my wife, I decide to cancel the deal the same day, Never took possession of the RV. How they still in business I don't know? They are very good on continually commuting Froud to people who spend there savings to purchase one of there RV's. I hope people read this and I'm able to help them make the right descension and not buy anything from this company. read more

We just purchased our 3rd RV. This is the first one from General RV and the best experience we have had. Our salesman Justin was great and knew which floor plans to show us. When it came to the dreaded finance part, we were surprised by the ease of it. We had the best finance person we have ever experienced.
