I think Sue and Tony were great, but the RV we rented really needed some TLC. Considering the condition, I don't think we got a value at $250 per day. Here were the top annoyances: Air Conditioning - Broke completely in the middle of our July trip, the mechanic said it was quite old and missing some screws. It wasn't possible to fix on the road, so we had no AC for 4 days. Sensors - Many of the key sensors were inaccurate. Ex: black tank level, water level. This proved very challenging for first time RVers like us, who didn't have a feel for how often to empty or refill tanks. Door - The screen door was missing a piece of plastic, which created a hole for bugs to come in and the door itself required a VERY hard closure to latch. My kids could rarely do it themselves. Awning - Not functional; directions in troubleshooting book didn't match type of awning on our RV. Generator - Shut off inexplicably a few times. Mattress - VERY old and worn. Electrical panel - Literally kept closed with duct tape and wouldn't stay closed. Easy to accidentally turn things off. Privacy curtain - Held back with duct tape. Easily knocked open. read more

I've been an avid RVer for 25 years, and have owned/used various trailers and motorhomes. During this time, I became very leery of RV dealers and service centers. Mostly, this was because so many RV dealers and repair centers lacked expertise or knowledge about what they were selling or repairing. Over time, I learned how to do the service and maintenance on many parts of a motorhome. After a few years, I realized that I usually knew much more than a salesman, and often, I knew more than a service technician. So many RV dealers/repair centers had simply become profit centers where making a buck was the only thing that mattered. But then, I happened upon Tony, Sr and Tony, Jr and Sue at Hometown RV when I had a strange electrical problem with my motorhome. Both Tonys, father and son, were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and patient enough to listen to my explanation of the problem. I'm very satisfied that I've now found a true "hometown" neighborhood RV dealer and service center that is actually family-owned and operated, and still conducts business the old-fashioned way. We needed repairs to a Dodge Sprinter RV. We checked Yelp and Google reviews for repair shops within a reasonable distance of Chicago. We called each shop for repair advice. Hometown was the only to answer questions in a detailed forthright way. Cost of repairs was below expected (and less than Ehrhardt's on Oakton in Des Plaines). Had roof leak and major headliner damage repaired, fussy Norcold fridge fixed, working again on propane setting. Light fixture casing fixed. Microwave centered. New (used) shroud on roof AC unit. Everything we asked for on the work order they fixed and fixed well. Tony (owner) is a friendly and knowledgeable guy, excellent customer relations; Jim did the work (ask for him), he is a repair guru. Kudos to those who helped Jim, too. Staff was congenial, pleasant, patiently and fully answered our many, many questions and offered lots of detail and suggestions. We'll be back whenever we need RV maintenance. read more

Tony and the staff at Hometown RV are top-notch. My wife and I rented a motorhome for a vacation and the experience was just great - When we arrived, the unit was clean and ready to go. They were very thorough during the check-in process, they took the time to help us get familiar with the unit, and they're just genuinely nice people. During the trip we discovered there was an issue with the water heater. Tony was very helpful in troubleshooting the problem and did all he could to get it working again. We happened to be camped at a place where we had facilities so we ended up not using the water heater the rest of the trip. After we returned the unit I forgot all about it, but then about a week later we received a refund check! I found this business online under the name "American Dream Vacations" offering late model RVs to rent by the day, week or month. We rented a Class A motorhome from them for 5 nights. The Good: They guys that work there are very friendly and helpful. Although they are closed on Saturday, they promptly returned our call when we had a question about how something worked in the RV. Not so Good: The RV was 12 years old and had lots of visible wear and tear, including a leaky windshield and broken screen door. The steps which retract under the motorhome quit working on the first day. The leveler had been disabled. The TV didn't work, the TV in the bedroom wasn't secured and fell out of it's cabinet within the first 20 miles. The ceilings in the two slideouts had mold growing where there had apparently been previous leaking. I would recommend inspecting the motorhome you will be renting in advance of putting money down to ensure it is what you are expecting. If that isn't possible, you should ask several questions about the age and condition of the motorhome to avoid a surprise like we experienced. read more

Hometown RV gave us a great first time RV rental experience. We went to Graceland in style with a beautiful Class A RV with some work buddies. Tony gave us a great orientation and information session. The vehicle was in great shape (minus a non-working radio which was on the RV owner, not the rental place) and was awesome inside and out. Tony, Sue and the crew are amazing! I was in search of a repair shop that would actually fix the leaking roof on the company's demo truck. Basically a large UHAUL type truck. I had a few different body shops and mechanics already attempt to fix it, which none of the attempts worked. My last resort was to contact a RV dealer. The first local RV dealer I contacted was a waste of time. They were unfriendly and didn't even seem to want the work or help point me in the right direction. Then I called Tony. I explained the situation and emailed him some photos of the roof. I had done some research and asked him about some products that I wanted to be used to fix it the correct way. He knew exactly what I was trying to accomplish and even suggested a better product to use. I also wanted the work done a very specific way and Tony took care of it without hesitation. Our experience was a national lampoons movie come to life! We were first time renters of an RV for a week long trip, we learned A LOT and not the safe way. First, to get a hold of anyone at hometown is so difficult, they never pick up their phones and their message box is always full. Email was really the only way to keep in contact. So we chose a Four Winds RV at first but was told a newer one was coming it (the four winds was 12yr) and he would put us down for that one. An emergency arose for another client and it was given to her instead of us. So the old Four Winds it was. To sum up the trip and make it short, we stopped halfway into the trip because the RV was driving horribly to find we have a two inch lump in the front tire and it needed an alignment. The mechanic said we were very lucky it didn't not blow because it would of resulted in a wreck. Next the entire oven door fell apart while we were driving and my husband had to reassemble. It rained and we found out the hard way that the bunk window was not sealed properly and not dripping, but pouring rain in and soaked the mattress (which there was much evidence in the wood and the mattress that this was not a new problem). Also, we had ants which I just purchased traps for, no biggy. The airconditioner leaked everytime it was on, and we were level at both our camping sites. When it rained the water poured in the airconditioner, so we just kept changing towels on the floor. Then on the way home we blew a tire on a 70 mph highway, dangerous situation. We called someone to come out and they changed 2 of the 4 other old tires. After the man who fixed our tires narrowly escaped death by 5 inches of a semi running over the road side cones and skimming his truck, he told us we should have the others check out seeing we had 500+ miles yet to go. So another day wasted at the mechanics. Hometown said they wouldn't pay to have the others changed because they had tires and would change them when we go back...mechanics reply was a shrug of the shoulders and said, you should make it back. I suppose my advice would be, when you are given the chance to examine the RV before you take it - LOOK AT EVERYTHING! They give you a chance to inspect it before you take it, brush over instructions quickly. Naively we thought we were good because who would rent out a RV in such poor condition? Now I know what to look for and the questions to ask! I can laugh now, but some moments of the trip were very scary, especially fear that my children were unsafe! I do have to say though, speaking with the manager for over an hour, he was easy to talk to, appropriate and provided a full refund. Hopefully after this experience they take a close look at policies and make some changes! read more

The owner of this place does not care about anything but his money... We rented an RV from them last week that had an Airbag light blinking on the instrument panel, the owner said that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle and that the air bag will deploy in case of accident. The RV had no reverse lights, heavy break noise,and a broken recliner cannopy. On the second day and 900 miles away i notice that the license plate sticker has not been renewed since December of 2013. The vehicle lost power going up a 3-4% reclining hill with a traffic jam behind me. On the 3rd day the toilet broke and we were unable to repair it because the the RV tech was too far from our location and or the closest one was booked already.The RV became essentially rental car because of the lack of a bathroom. When we went to return the RV and explain the problems, the owner got upset and told me that this would be the last time I rented an RV from him and then proceeded to promise me a full refund. Mr. Mucerino I expect you to fufill the promise that you made to me: a full refund. I wish you the best in your business with all your rudeness and poor customer service. I do not recommend this place at all. read more
