Our family had an amazing dinner at 801 Chophouse, and Jacob made the experience exceptional. He was incredibly patient with our party arriving at different times and never made us feel rushed. He even brought out the different steak cuts and explained each one in detail, which made ordering so much easier. The service was attentive from start to finish. Jacob timed every course perfectly, checked on us often, and even helped box up our leftovers. His friendly energy and attention to detail truly elevated our meal. Everything we ordered was outstanding. The tuna tartare, steak tartare, steamed mussels, and French onion soup were fantastic. The porterhouse, Delmonico, and lamb chops were all cooked perfectly, and the sides and desserts, especially the chocolate soufflé and cheesecake, were just as impressive. A nice bonus was that dining here reduced our valet parking to just $7.50. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and will definitely be back, especially if Jacob is our server! read more

I went to Arbys Wednesday, pressed for time on Colfax in Wheat Ridge. The manager gave me a generous "Hello-how-are-you?," probably sensing my stress as a family physician--had my badge on, and I was, in fact, very stressed. That Arby 1/2 pound and 2 milks pulled me out of a funk in a hurry, and my afternoon went so much better from that small kindness. Imagine my dismay when 2 days later, with my Friday evening slot set for 2 hours of much needed libation, celebration and food with family and friends, we came to a place without even a welcome. When one drops $1000 for an anticipated culinary experience, mind you, I'm not pretentious--having been Ed Your Waiter back in the day at Pizza Hut--I did in my naïvete expect a cursory or even curt greeting from the manager. We didn't get that. We were 4 hungry yet happy souls expecting basic restaurant decorum, and didn't even get that. We did get a non-smiling curmudgeonesque man in a bolo tie who seemed angry with us for God knows what reason. I know this because he reconned our table twice and angrily bussed a few dishes off our table. Sidenote--I do as a necessity get my steak rare, every single time. While not germaine to your knowledge of me personally, our server, when I declared this, countered, " OK--OUR steaks come out rare as a baseline, so YOURS will be rare-rare, we good?." Fair enough. After a reasonable seafood tower that languished on our table for well over half hour after we'd finished, I was then served a medium-rare steak. My brussel spouts attacked the palate with manically pickled onions that were perhaps drizzled accidentally with horsey-sauce ( from Arbys?). This meal was an utter disappointment, and dampened the celebration of our son's acceptance into medical school. We're headed to Oahu where we anticipate a better experience at Black Angus. 801 Steakhouse Happy Hour was recommended to me by my friend that joined me on Thursday! We were seated in the bar which was very elegant and quiet. We ordered off the HH menu. I had the grapefruit cocktail and my friend had a non-alcoholic version that they made for her. We also ordered the filet minion lettuce wraps which were very nice, but I though that the sauce was took spicy and strong for the delicate meat. We also ordered the blue cheese potato chips that were excellent and the filet minion sliders which I also highly recommend. The staff was great and the manager even checked in with us to see how we were enjoying ourselves. Hey the best part of 801 Steakhouse for me, is that I can walk. We were walking around Cherry Creek Mall last night doing some shopping when we suddenly had a craving for French onion soup (yes, you read that right!). We knew 801 Chophouse had it on their menu, so off we went. I always love coming here -- the food, atmosphere, and service are consistently top-notch, and last night was no exception. I ordered the French onion soup, and as usual, it was fantastic. The filet was cooked perfectly to my order, and the cheesy hash browns were absolute fire. This was a great place to spend my birthday! The server was very knowledgeable and the food was delicious! We ordered Kobe, Wagyu, lobster, oysters, and king crab. I suggest that if someone orders multiple things, like my husband and I did, to bring them out separately so they stay warm. Our lobster was so cold when we finished our steaks. Went to 801 Chophouse early March for restaurant week and the food didn't disappoint. I got the 8oz steak, wedge salad, and creme brûlée. The only negatives I have to say is that the restaurant is not meant to hold a conversation. I went with a party of 2 and were sat at a table and it was so loud I had to move seats halfway through the meal to be able to interact. I also had to take stars off because although the service was great the restaurant itself was very behind with food. From start to finish our meal took 3+ hours. I get that it's a steakhouse and things are made to order but it took an hour and a half from ordering the steaks to get to our table. (Medium by the way). For this amount of time I could have left went to a different steakhouse and gotten my food. read more

So I had to try Denver's 801 Chophouse after my amazing Tyson's experience. It was a totally different, but still good, experience. Atmosphere was very full of noise and activity. Service was more animated and interactive as well. Very attentive and entertaining. I tried to order the same items as I ordered at my Tyson's meal to compare. The filet, oddly enough, did not seem to be as melt-in-your mouth delicious as I remembered. I am thinking it is a difference in chefs. The filet here seemed to be cooked at a high heat for a quicker result, where the outside was pretty much well-done, not just on the outside, but probably a1/4" in. I learned I am super sensitive to "overcooked" meat, but maybe that is just how it is done here. I will have to go back to the Tyson's location and compare again. Ended up meeting one of the owners who was sitting there in the restaurant. I made sure to write a note letting him know he should give the folks who served us a raise. Food is honestly 4 stars for a steakhouse at this price range -- I do wish they'd up their game a little because they should be aiming for Keen's, Manny's, Lugers level quality. Steaks can be salty and they should all be dry aged, no exceptions. King crab is meh. Don't get the oysters Rockefeller (always cold and just buried in cheese and I love Rockefeller but these ain't it). All that said, it's got the Chicago steakhouse vibe that seemingly every other single steakhouse in Denver seems to flail around finding (here's looking at you, B10), despite being at the mall. Bartenders will take great care of you and your steak will be very good (but not great). Prepare yourself for mall patrons. Also, wish they'd be open for lunch a few days a week. So my husband and I wanted to come celebrate the before new year because I have a procedure at the hospital on New Year's Eve and I wanted a steak.. we've been to several steak restaurants so 801 was on my list. The ambiance is beautiful of course 801 is in the heart of Cherry creek off 1st and connected to the elaborate mall. Our reservations were at 4:30 we got there at 4:38 and were seated right away! Our seating was so intimate and nice with the Christmas decorations so pretty. Our waitress Shantell was really nice and professional and she explained all the cuts of meat and the history behind the Wagyu beef etc. We eventually ordered our meals. To the dinner: we both ordered Caesar salads which were fresh and delicious!! I don't like anchovies so my husband took mine and he said how delicious they were - oh and don't let me forget about the warm, amazing bread and butter!!! It was perfect for my salad and Coke !!! My husband ordered prime rib, I ordered the New York 14oz and we both split the asparagus and al gratin potatoes. So how was it? It was ok. The steak could have had more flavor for the price of $68 and more heat! The potatoes should be titled Crunchy cheese potatoes because the topping of crumbled cheese/breading had our potatoes dried out. I think with the steak what would compliment it if you are going to have algratin potatoes- make sure they are made with love - thin layered potatoes with amazing cheeses and Alfredo sauce, creamy and hot when served, to help the presentation as well. The asparagus weren't bad they had a little butter taste as well. For the price of $230 it should have caused me to want more! However it allowed me the opportunity to experience the steak and yet I don't crave to come back but..... but that dang on bread and my Caesar salad was the BOMB.COM!!!!! Delicious!!! Our server made sure we had enough water and beverages and she was very pleasant so that did help the experience. I took a date here for dinner on a Thursday night. Made reservations online and we were seated right away. I don't like valet so I found paid parking in the lot nearby and the restaurant validated it so parking was free. Our waitress Anastasia (sp?) was awesome, super friendly and gave good recommendations for the Australian Wagyu steak. She presented us the different options and she helped us pick our steaks. My date got the Australian Wagyu medium. I tasted it and it was tasty but I've had better Wagyu. I ordered the 12 oz filet mignon medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. I found my filet tasting delicious. We also got some cocktails and french onion soup for her and lobster bisque for me. They used real lobster chunks which was really tasty. Prices were expensive but as I expected so it wasn't actually bad. Decor of the restaurant was really elegant with a lot of Picasso style drawings of different cows/bulls. Came here for my dad's birthday on a Monday night. I made a reservation on opentable however it was fairly empty, so they were able to take us a bit early. I had mentioned in the reservation that it was my dad's birthday and they had confetti on the table, with a birthday menu and gave him a free birthday dessert. Talk about above and beyond! The front entrance was a tad weird with the curtain but I loved the vibe in the restaurant. Great for an intimate meal or business function. Valet is right out front as well. Shana was our waitress, and she was amazing! Gave us a meat tour to explain the different cuts. My parents aren't big drinkers, so this meal was all about the food. The bone marrow was quite plentiful, I didn't need a started, but I did start with the French onion soup and was stuffed. Hands down the best item we had was the petite filet and the scalloped potatoes! For three people having a starter, with three mains and two side would be enough. We had two starters and three sides which was alot and we had a ton of leftovers. *Love the fact the steak is not cooked in butter! I can't say enough good things about this establishment. Brandon was a top notch waiter and provided attentive, kind and informative service. We went here for my dad's birthday and they gave us a private room and special menus for the occasion as a surprise and at no extra cost. The complimentary sourdough bread and butter was the perfect start to a wonderful meal. We chose a bottle of the Duckhorn Merlot which was great. The lobster bisque was creamy and delicious with several large chunks of lobster. The wedge salad was good but it had way too much dressing on it for my taste however the large bacon pieces on it were amazing. I had the dry aged bone in New York strip with bone marrow butter. The steak was perfectly cooked and the bone marrow butter added a wonderful earthy flavor and richness to the meat. The espresso martini was simply to die for and the chocolate soufflé was an amazing end to a great experience with its light chocolatey flavor and several delicious syrups. My family are steakhouse aficionados and they deemed this one of the best steakhouses they have ever been to in the Denver area - which is saying a lot. We will absolutely be back for special occasions and hopefully a date night here and there. Be prepared to spend big when you come here but I promise it will be worth every penny. read more

What a horrible experience! We had reservations made through Open Table that I made a week ago . I was told that they could not honor our reservation because they were full but if we could find room at the bar, we could eat there. I showed the hostess my confirmed reservation and she said she was sorry but they were full. They did send a message and asked if we were on our way. I replied yes. Why did they even allow us to make a reservation if they didn't have room? Why did they ask if we were in our way if they didn't have room? We drove a long way to get here. Parking was horrible. I had a conference in Denver and needed to get away and relax with good food. After a quick Google search 801 popped up. I was solo so I sat at the bar and the awesome bar team took care of me. I had the 801 Manhattan and it was fantastic! Loved the black walnut bitters. For dinner I had the NY Strip and creamed spinach. Everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Wow. I have never had a prime rib that was so good. If there's one thing to take from this review, it's SHARE YOUR FOOD. My mom and I ordered a tomato&onion salad (delicious), a 16oz prime rib with bernaise, and garlic mashed potato's. Our waitress (who was amazing, I wish I caught her name) walked us through the whole menu and was very honest about portion sizes, flavoring, etc. She recommended we share a steak and it would be plenty, as well as the salads and sides. After a short wait my food was served and everything was fresh and delicious. I ordered the petite fillet mignon and it was tender and juicy cooked to a perfect medium temperature. The mashed potatoes were about the most creamiest that I had ever eaten and even though I dont normally eat asparagus, it also had a very delightful flavor.
