Our party of 4 enjoy a wonderful Saturday brunch. We started with drinks. The Bloody Mary was particularly good and given the choice of regular or spicy. The regular was fine with a hint of heat and tangy Worcestershire. The entrees were of generous proportions. Surf & turf, lobster and beef tenderloin was more than enough and adding in breakfast sausage made it very filling. Also, the steak and avocado was really 2 entrees in one. A full steak and then a salad too, not just portions put over top. The Nantucket seafood stew had all the flavoring of fish, shrimp, mussels and vegetables. The French toast was excellent and stuffed with raspberry, accented with blueberries and strawberries. As well as a few strips of bacon. We will return again soon. read more

I feel guilty for this review during COVID, but I think it's fair. If I were you, I'd avoid 75 Chestnut and look elsewhere for better food at better prices with polite staff. Please note the one MAJOR issue in the cons section. Pros: - Great location - Pleasant atmosphere (but for similar prices, you can have a much finer experience somewhere nearby) - Good presentation - Dessert is half off on Tuesdays!!! Cons: - Firstly, it was our intention just to enjoy some desserts late on a Tuesday to mark our anniversary. We opted to have drinks and an appetizer as well. We seemed to be the last customers to enter the restaurant. As we wrapped up, my girlfriend overheard the staff (in the kitchen close to the restroom) complaining about us and how it sucked that "all we got was dessert." Because I too was once a server, I understand the frustration, but we always kept our rude comments far from customers ears. Appalling behavior. And I think a $50 check on a Tuesday night at 9pm during the pandemic is just fine. Pretty offended and disappointed. The staff should be better trained in this regard. - Speaking of dessert, I'm glad it was half off, because I've never had more bland chocolate cake. I'm critical when it comes to food, so I made sure my polite and forgiving girlfriend agreed - it was bad. Not worth $5 and definitely not worth $11. Try Little Debbies instead. - Oh, the fries? I've had better frozen from Stop and Shop. - But, what about the drinks? They were very good (sangria and a s'mores martini), but not worth $14 each. No way. - The prices in general do not fit. You can do much better for the same price in Beacon Hill, Back Bay, or Downtown Crossing. Stopped in Sunday evening for a quick dinner expecting few diners. Not the case. The place was jammed and we had no reservation. The manager, Jeff, was amazing. He found us a great table in the bar area and although he was very busy managing a full house made us feel welcome and appreciated.The food was great and our server was professional, friendly and efficient. At the end of a long, touristy, unexpectedly cold and rainy day, I found myself at the door of 75 Chestnut after visiting the tourist trap "Cheers" bar nearby. My family and I were starving and were willing to eat just about anything before heading back to the hotel on the red line. I had found the restaurant on yelp, and was hopeful for a good meal and warm shelter from the cold outside. Granted, we probably were not dressed to dine at such a fine establishment (backpacks and all) but the hostess was gracious enough to seat us in the bar area without too much of a withering gaze. We helped ourselves to cheese and crackers (a new take on butter and bread for the bar area?) and ordered our food. I had the mussels, which were $17 or $18, but came on a huge plate with 30 or so mussels. It was good, but pretty salty. I didn't hear any complaint from the rest of my family so I take it the rest of the food was good, but not swoon worthy. I did like that there was a half off dessert night the night we were there, which of course the women in the family jumped on. Overall it was a cozy warm intimate place which would be perfect for a girlfriend night out or a date. I would like to come back dressed appropriately and sitting in the main dining area to have the full experience instead of being wet, tired, grumpy and under dressed. We were very impressed with this place. We we're looking for an affordable dining option in Boston and found this place on a recommendation list for affordable dining so we have it a try. It did not disappoint. Besides the food and the pricing, which were all great, the biggest "wow moment" for me was when we got our food and our server noticed my fiancé and I switched dishes. We both got the steak options (filet and tenderloin, very similar and we order them the same way) when they came out, we decided to switch meals. Our server came by about a minute later and was concerned we got the wrong meals! What a cute American restaurant in Beacon Hill. There is unlimited cheese and crackers, and the free bread that they serve you is nice and warm! There was just one kind of cheese cut into cubes, and it was a great way to keep me happy. There is a small bar area with TV screens, a lot of people were watching the game and cheering. It can get loud during games. If you can score a table by the window, you can people watch. There is a good cocktail list- I went with the Bloody Mary, which was delicious. For my main course, I had the seafood stew. There was a ton of fish in it, and 1 shrimp, and a few mussels. The fish was kinda dry, and not very pleasant to eat. Pre covid19 review: Sat by the window which was really nice for lighting as well as people watching. Free cheese and crackers! I got the margarita which was delicious and the bar staff were great helping my partner select his drink. I had the veggie burger for a main which had black rice in it, which I had never seen before. He had the steak sandwich which he said was impossible to eat because the bread kept falling off. The same was true for mine, but, because of lack of sauce, it stayed in my hands and did not fall all over the plate. read more

Very intimate restaurant, 5 of us were packed into a round booth and were shoulder to shoulder. The service is great and the waitress seemed very knowledgeable about the menus. The menu consists of typical American fare. I wouldn't say anything was a stand out. We ordered the truffled polenta fries and calamari to start - very mediocre. I got the steak and avocado bowl, it was pretty good but I wouldn't call home about it. My boyfriend was disappointed by how soggy his fish and chips were. I had a bite of the fried fish and I agreed that it could have been crispier and maybe salted more. Really nice experience. We got the salmon, Meyer Lemon Chicken Breast, Steak and Avocado Salad, Caesar Salad, a few cocktails and the polenta fries. All good. The beef in the salad was chewy and a little dry for our liking. But a cozy atmosphere and tucked away. Not great for large crowds unless you want to squeeze. But the 5 of us were good! A charming, cozy restaurant nestled in the Beacon Hill neighborhood, it was perfect for my birthday dinner during a recent visit to Boston. It would also be great for a date night or family outing. We were half an hour early for our reservation, so spent it walking around Beacon Hill taking pictures of the lovely streets and Acorn street, the most photographed street in Boston. Once in the restaurant we settled in at our table with complementary cheese and crackers for all guests. I had some dietary restrictions and the waitress was very courteous and accommodating. I enjoyed their grilled pork chop with mash and grilled vegetables, something I noticed many people ordering. My boyfriend ordered the Nantucket seafood stew which he also enjoyed. We had to call it a night after that, but this is a classy and intimate spot for dinner with top notch food and service that I highly recommend. read more

Semi-overpriced for what you get. $7 for a cup of clam chowder?? We'd return if looking for a place to suck down yummy Bloody Marys, but probably skip if just going back for the food. This is an adorable spot on beacon hill, quiet and quaint, dim and on the small side. There is a bar area, I've seen much smaller spaces in on beacon hill. I called on Friday night, about 15 minutes before we were planning to go in (spur of the moment dinner decisions) and asked if there was any way we could have dinner there. They said if we didn't mind a high top then yes, they'd put us in. The high top was just a regular table, but high, not some tiny bar high top. The hostess was wonderful, very kind. Our server was great, he was a younger man with a full head of brown flow hair (could not find his name on the receipt). There were three of us and we were being annoying and indecisive. We wanted to split everything. So we ordered three entrees, and asked if they could just cut the steak sandwich in three pieces if possible. To our surprise our food came our tasting menu style, each entree split three ways and plated like it was meant for one (not like they just spooned some onto another plate). We were blown away by this alone. We got one plate right after the other, at one point there were 9 plates on our high top. Our server didn't seem to the least bit annoyed either. The food the amazing. The beef tenderloin and mashed potatoes were seriously great, the steak sandwich was so tasty and tender, but the lobster dish (a special) was to die for. At one point I actually said I would put my whole face in the sauce it was served in. We didn't speak the whole meal. We will be back, soon. P.S. wine was great. read more

Our first experience here. Fabulous. Mediterranean Platter for an appetizer was fantastic with an interesting array of items that complimented each other so well. Clam chowder amazing. For main meals I had the Pan-Seared Cod (outstanding) and my husband had a "special" of Summer Squash Ravioli with Prosciutto. Yum. Mo was our bartender/server and in addition to the great food, he would be our reason to return. Ambiance lovely and comfortable. I'll start off by saying that the atmosphere was great and the food was overall delicious! 75 Chestnut is tucked in the cute Beacon Hill neighborhood and has a cozy feel as soon as you enter! Highlights at my table were the the rib tip tenderloin and chicken sausage fettuccini. Skip the calamari - small portion for $17 and came out cold. The service was the biggest problem that cost the stars on this review. Our server never introduced himself or made any recommendations, at one point he suddenly appeared behind me asking for our tables drink orders. Those drink orders were wrong. From there on, there were very few words coming from our server. It seemed like both him and the food runners wanted to run away from the table as fast as possible. We were not checked in on during our meal. While waiting for our check to be picked up with observed our server joking around with a coworker at the front of house for ~10 mins. Out of the four people in my party, three of us have worked as servers. Knowing what it's like on the otherwise, it's clear that there must be some training or supervision issue with the servers. Disappointing because my review would have been 4 or 5 stars if the service would have even been average. Maybe we just had a bad night or got an off server but the whole experience really left a bad taste in my mouth. (Also - apparently there are complimentary crackers and cheese, but that was never mentioned to us. I learned about it by reading it here on Yelp. Excellent food. Recommend eating outside if possible during summer. Reservations are seated inside. Highlights were fresh and flavorful salads, creamy chowder and great steak with mashed potatoes. Seafood stew was also amazing- each element had its own taste and the broth was delicious. Calamari was tender. I found 75 Chestnut by chance because I was asked by my boyfriend to pick a restaurant for us to go to for a date night (dinner) before a party we were going to attend in the area. Gorgeous and cozy atmosphere, but with a very unenthusiastic / not very friendly hostess and equally not very friendly waitress...however, it did make up for it with the food. We got Calamari as an appetizer; which was only ok; I got the Tenderloin au Poivre, which was very good but I wish there was more of the peppercorn brandy cream sauce making the meal a bit dry. The Tenderloin had good flavor and they give you a decent to small amount of tenderloin. My boyfriend got the Filet Mignon, which I expected to be a thick piece of Filet, however it was a thin Filet, which was overcooked and only ok. Truly disappointing. We ended the meal with the Creme Brulee Tasting which was probably the highlight of the meal as we got to taste 3 delicious Vanilla, Chocolate and Passionfruit Creme Brulees. Overall, it wasn't bad, but not amazing. I found it a bit disappointing after as I was really looking forward to coming - making a reservation super far in advance, and probably a place I won't end up coming back to. read more
