We were struggling to find an open brunch spot, and saw that 75 Chestnut had availability late on a Saturday morning. The food was incredible and the waiter was just as great. I've gotta say I was pretty let down after reading a good amount of positive reviews. Our calamari was cold, bland, and well, left a really sad mouthfeel. My cod conversely was overcooked, dry, and lacked seasoning. Season chef... season! And lastly, all of our molten lava cakes had nothing molten about them. We had a fair visit at 75 Chestnut; the atmosphere was cute, but the food was not memorable. Outdoor seating is at a slant, so hold onto your drinks or they will slide. We ordered the Autumn Flatbread, Calamari, and Pumpkin Ravioli to share. Flatbread was bland, cold. Calamari had a pool of oil it was swimming in (my husband still devoured). Ravioli had a wonderful sauce, but the toppings were off-putting, filling was too sweet. Overall, not impressed for the $100 tab, but Beacon Hill rent is surely not cheap. read more

Leaving this place, I knew I needed to leave a review! Impromptu, i made a reservation about 2 hours before, not even knowing their special that was happening! To my surprise they had a lovely Wine Wednesday special. One starter, one entree and 2 glasses of wine for $39 pp. I was interested in nearly everything on the special's menu, but landed with the chardonnay (which usually im a pinot grigio girl, but this was nice and sweet!), coconut shrimp (as per the recommendation of the bartender), and the schnitzel. Im not usually one to finish a meal, i love leftovers, but this... i finished it! It was so delicious. The sauce served with the coconut shrimp was just spicy enough. The apple brandy on the perfectly crisped schnitzel, delectable. The veggies and pretzel served with that as well were such a nice treat as sides. I was enjoying my book, so decided to order an espresso martini after finishing my meal. I am a self proclaimed espresso martini connoisseur, and this one is probably the best i've had in Boston since moving here 3 months ago. The service was great here, i witnessed the hostess clearing, serving, and taking orders which i think is just great, she's a team player for sure! I feel guilty for this review during COVID, but I think it's fair. If I were you, I'd avoid 75 Chestnut and look elsewhere for better food at better prices with polite staff. Please note the one MAJOR issue in the cons section. Pros: - Great location - Pleasant atmosphere (but for similar prices, you can have a much finer experience somewhere nearby) - Good presentation - Dessert is half off on Tuesdays!!! Cons: - Firstly, it was our intention just to enjoy some desserts late on a Tuesday to mark our anniversary. We opted to have drinks and an appetizer as well. We seemed to be the last customers to enter the restaurant. As we wrapped up, my girlfriend overheard the staff (in the kitchen close to the restroom) complaining about us and how it sucked that "all we got was dessert." Because I too was once a server, I understand the frustration, but we always kept our rude comments far from customers ears. Appalling behavior. And I think a $50 check on a Tuesday night at 9pm during the pandemic is just fine. Pretty offended and disappointed. The staff should be better trained in this regard. - Speaking of dessert, I'm glad it was half off, because I've never had more bland chocolate cake. I'm critical when it comes to food, so I made sure my polite and forgiving girlfriend agreed - it was bad. Not worth $5 and definitely not worth $11. Try Little Debbies instead. - Oh, the fries? I've had better frozen from Stop and Shop. - But, what about the drinks? They were very good (sangria and a s'mores martini), but not worth $14 each. No way. - The prices in general do not fit. You can do much better for the same price in Beacon Hill, Back Bay, or Downtown Crossing. Dined here with some friends this past weekend. Ambiance was cozy and quintessential beacon hill vibes. Service was pleasant. Two friends ordered the pork chop & raved about the dish. I found my winter carbonara to be underwhelming. I think it could have been made just a little bit better with some fresh cracked pepper and a little more salt/herbs. At the end of a long, touristy, unexpectedly cold and rainy day, I found myself at the door of 75 Chestnut after visiting the tourist trap "Cheers" bar nearby. My family and I were starving and were willing to eat just about anything before heading back to the hotel on the red line. I had found the restaurant on yelp, and was hopeful for a good meal and warm shelter from the cold outside. Granted, we probably were not dressed to dine at such a fine establishment (backpacks and all) but the hostess was gracious enough to seat us in the bar area without too much of a withering gaze. We helped ourselves to cheese and crackers (a new take on butter and bread for the bar area?) and ordered our food. I had the mussels, which were $17 or $18, but came on a huge plate with 30 or so mussels. It was good, but pretty salty. I didn't hear any complaint from the rest of my family so I take it the rest of the food was good, but not swoon worthy. I did like that there was a half off dessert night the night we were there, which of course the women in the family jumped on. Overall it was a cozy warm intimate place which would be perfect for a girlfriend night out or a date. I would like to come back dressed appropriately and sitting in the main dining area to have the full experience instead of being wet, tired, grumpy and under dressed. We walked in for lunch as there werent very tasty options in this lovely neighborhood, which is a shame. The menu is pretty boring with all the usuals. I would say that they are trying to be one step above pub food. They have a lovely patio for seating. Our burger was ordered medium well and came, pretty rare. The fries were basic as well as the caesar salad. The staff were all very nice. I wouldnt really recommend the restaurant to anybody travelling to Boston. read more

What a cute American restaurant in Beacon Hill. There is unlimited cheese and crackers, and the free bread that they serve you is nice and warm! There was just one kind of cheese cut into cubes, and it was a great way to keep me happy. There is a small bar area with TV screens, a lot of people were watching the game and cheering. It can get loud during games. If you can score a table by the window, you can people watch. There is a good cocktail list- I went with the Bloody Mary, which was delicious. For my main course, I had the seafood stew. There was a ton of fish in it, and 1 shrimp, and a few mussels. The fish was kinda dry, and not very pleasant to eat. Pre covid19 review: Sat by the window which was really nice for lighting as well as people watching. Free cheese and crackers! I got the margarita which was delicious and the bar staff were great helping my partner select his drink. I had the veggie burger for a main which had black rice in it, which I had never seen before. He had the steak sandwich which he said was impossible to eat because the bread kept falling off. We were very impressed with this place. We we're looking for an affordable dining option in Boston and found this place on a recommendation list for affordable dining so we have it a try. It did not disappoint. Besides the food and the pricing, which were all great, the biggest "wow moment" for me was when we got our food and our server noticed my fiancé and I switched dishes. We both got the steak options (filet and tenderloin, very similar and we order them the same way) when they came out, we decided to switch meals. Our server came by about a minute later and was concerned we got the wrong meals! Very intimate restaurant, 5 of us were packed into a round booth and were shoulder to shoulder. The service is great and the waitress seemed very knowledgeable about the menus. The menu consists of typical American fare. I wouldn't say anything was a stand out. We ordered the truffled polenta fries and calamari to start - very mediocre. I got the steak and avocado bowl, it was pretty good but I wouldn't call home about it. My boyfriend was disappointed by how soggy his fish and chips were. I had a bite of the fried fish and I agreed that it could have been crispier and maybe salted more. A charming, cozy restaurant nestled in the Beacon Hill neighborhood, it was perfect for my birthday dinner during a recent visit to Boston. It would also be great for a date night or family outing. We were half an hour early for our reservation, so spent it walking around Beacon Hill taking pictures of the lovely streets and Acorn street, the most photographed street in Boston. Once in the restaurant we settled in at our table with complementary cheese and crackers for all guests. I had some dietary restrictions and the waitress was very courteous and accommodating. I enjoyed their grilled pork chop with mash and grilled vegetables, something I noticed many people ordering. My boyfriend ordered the Nantucket seafood stew which he also enjoyed.
